Kobe Bryant divorce: Bryant avoids comment after scrimmage
Lakers guard Kobe Bryant avoided talking to reporters after an intrasquad scrimmage at USC's Galen Center on Friday. Earlier in the day his wife, Vanessa Bryant, filed for divorce in Orange County Superior Court and stated her intention to end her 10-year marriage to the Lakers star.
Lakers forward Pau Gasol raised his eyebrows when a reporter alerted him about the news.
"I didn't know anything about it," Gasol said. "This is the first time I hear. That's something I wasn't aware of. It's out of my hands."
In 2003, Bryant admitted adultery but denied sexual assault charges that were ultimately dropped. The Bryants have two daughters, Natalia Diamante and Gianna Maria, and have a residence in Newport Beach. In a statement released by their publicist, the couple said a final judgment for the marriage will be filed with the Orange County court in 2012.
"We ask that in the interest of our young children and in light of the upcoming holiday season the public respect our privacy during this most difficult time," the Bryants said in the joint statement.
Meanwhile, on the basketball court, Bryant scored 12 points on six-for-11 shooting and appeared to play with more energy and explosiveness compared to past seasons where he was hobbled with injuries.
