Photo caption contest: Derek Fisher delivers turkeys

November 23, 2011 | 10:33 am

Derek Fisher hands out turkeys in Los Angeles.

The irony doesn't escape anyone who's remotely familiar with the NBA lockout.

One week after playing a part in disbanding the players union and prolonging the NBA lockout, President Derek Fisher appeared at the Salesian Boys & Girls Clubs of Los Angeles/Family Youth Center on Tuesday to hand out turkeys. Even if some of those families are in need, it wouldn't have been surprising if at least some of them expressed their displeasure to Fisher about the failed negotiations.

That's why when looking at the above photo, I couldn't help but think of a few photo captions that'd hardly rings of Thanksgiving gratitude. Below the jump are some suggestions.

--"Derek, I don't want a turkey. I want an NBA season."

--"Is handing out Thanksgiving turkeys part of the players' concessions toward the owners?"

--"Derek, can I have two turkeys? Like you and the owners, our family doesn't know how to divide resources evenly."

--Had NBA Commissioner David Stern been in line, he may have said to Fisher: "Your concession in offering me a turkey isn't enough. Our owners also demand you deliver us cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie."

--"Derek, how would you compare handling that turkey versus handling other turkies, such as David Stern and Billy Hunter?"

--"Get used to this gig, Derek. You may need to do it during a long off-season."

--"Derek, the owners stuffed you guys more than the cooks did to this turkey!"
