Lakers' D-League team to hold tryouts Saturday
The trek from the D-League to the NBA often remains nothing more than a pipe dream. With the NBA facing uncertainty about whether the 2011-12 will start on time, let alone begin at all, the journey will be even more difficult.
But one-in-a-million chance did not stop Lloyd Christmas from pursuing Mary Swanson in "Dumb and Dumber." It's conceivable that a shortened or even canceled season won't sway NBA hopefuls from attending the D-Fenders' tryouts, to be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Aviation Gym (1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd in Redondo Beach). Sorry, Metta World Peace. This venture isn't for you.
In fact, some Lakers players who could benefit from D-League experience, such as rookies Darius Morris or Andrew Goudelock -- or even second-year players Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter -- can't try out either. The tryouts are open only to those who have never played in the NBA.
