Pau Gasol sprains ankle in European Championships
Lakers forward Pau Gasol sat out of Spain's 65-57 loss Monday to Turkey in the preliminary round of the European Championships after suffering what the team termed a mild ankle sprain, according to a report from ESPN.com's Mark Woods.
Spain had entered Monday's game guaranteed first place in Group A and exercised caution on Gasol, who had reportedly sprained his ankle during Sunday's victory over Lithuania.
"He is day-to-day," Spain Coach Sergio Scariolo told reporters. "He's having treatment and the doctors will assess him before the second round begins."
This isn't the first time Gasol suffered an injury while playing overseas. He also broke his left index finger in the 2009 off-season while practicing with the Spanish national team.
