Pau Gasol leads Spain over Great Britain

September 2, 2011 | 10:23 am

Login issues persist at ESPN3.com. So everything regarding Pau Gasol's 21-point performance in Spain's 86-69 victory Friday over Great Britain in the preliminary round of the FIBA European Championships will have to rely solely on written reports. Also, don't be confused by the video above. It features highlights of Spain's 83-78 victory Wednesday against Poland. But for the sake of providing Laker fans some idea on how Gasol looks on the floor, we'll take it.

Gasol's performance against Great Britain marks the third consecutive game in which he has scored at least 20 points, a game that featured Spain opening the third quarter with a 20-8 run. Ricky Rubio continued his struggles, going 2-for-5 from the field with four points and four assists and zero of two from three-point range. Meanwhile, Pau's brother, Marc, posted 19 points, signifying the duo's strong chemistry.

"We know what to expect from each other very easily when we're out there together," Pau Gasol wrote in an email to The Times. "We are both capable of shooting the mid-range jumper and playing close to the basket."
