NBA 2K12 features Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
At the click of a button, Magic Johnson can throw his signature no-look pass. At the stroke of the joystick, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar can lob his legendary sky hook. And at the mercy of a reset switch, it's possible to relive it all over again.
In a move that was hardly surprising, NBA 2K12 will feature 15 of the greatest NBA players, making it possible to select any of those legends on a 2011-2012 roster, including Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan and Julius Erving.
When the company announced two weeks ago that Johnson, Jordan and Larry Bird would appear on three separate covers, 2K Sports vice president of marketing Jason Argent held out the possibility that they would appear in the game much the way that Jordan appeared in last year's edition. Some of those options included playing with the Chicago Bulls teams of Jordan's era and acquiring Jordan to play on your favorite team.
Instead of being limited to reliving the Chicago Bulls' six NBA championships in the 1990s, it's now possible to also relive the era of the Showtime Lakers. The possibilities are endless. Reenact Abdul-Jabbar becoming the league's all-time leading scorer. Relive Johnson's 42-point performance in Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals against the 76ers when he replaced injured Abdul-Jabbar at center. Or reenact Johnson's baby hook that secured Game 4 of the 1987 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.
There could be more options considering that 2K Sports hasn't released all of the names. So it'd only be natural to wonder if Lakers fans can also play as Jerry West or Wilt Chamberlain. With the possibility the NBA lockout could eat into next season, this would be an easy way to pass the time and to settle plenty of debates, such as who is the greatest Laker ever and which was the best Lakers team.
