Matt Barnes to sit out of Vegas Pro League

Matt Barnes

Lakers forward Matt Barnes won't play with Impact Basketball, a Las Vegas-based training site that's organizing a league in early September that hopes will feature about 70 NBA players. That's according to Barnes' publicist, Courtney Merfeld.

No reason was offered for Barnes' lack of interest. A Hoopsworld.com report indicated many NBA players have trained at Impact in years past, including Barnes. Nonetheless, Barnes has stated many times this off-season that he's mostly focused on fully rehabilitating his surgically repaired right knee.

He had been cleared to participate in five-on-five drills last month, but his full-court play was solely confined to pickup games at Loyola Marymount University and UCLA as well as games with the Dream Team, a Pro-Am League team he has played in for the last four years. He still works with Lakers physical therapist Judy Seto, whom Barnes has access to despite the NBA lockout because she also works at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic.
