D-League team hires Eric Musselman as coach

Musselman The Lakers’ NBA Development League team hired Eric Musselman as head coach, the team announced today.

In Musselman, 46, the Los Angeles D-Fenders add a coach with NBA experience and a taste of the development league. Musselman was head coach of the Golden State Warriors from 2002-04, and spent one season as head coach of the Sacramento Kings in 2006-07. He spent last season as head coach of the D-League’s Reno Bighorns where he led the team to a Western Conference regular season title.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining a first class organization like the D-Fenders,” Musselman said. “Our staff will work hard to develop young players for the next level while at the same time being an extremely competitive team.”

Musselman has also coached nine seasons in the CBA and USBL.

The D-Fenders did not field a team in 2010-11. They will play home games this season in El Segundo.
