Kobe Bryant shows off his soccer skills

August 1, 2011 |  9:00 am

It may be a while before we see Kobe Bryant step on the basketball court.

The current NBA lockout may eat into the all or at least part of the 2011-2012 season. Even if Bryant remains open to playing overseas, the monthlong and unlikely possibility that he'd play with the Turkish basketball club, Besiktas, appears even more unlikely after Bryant revealed he hadn't spoken to the team in weeks. But in the meantime, fans can still see Bryant display his crafty footwork and scoring abilities.

Except this came on the soccer field. Bryant appeared at halftime of the Manchester United and FC Barecelona Game Saturday at Washington D.C. and casually took a penalty kick that went into the goal (as indicated in the video above shot by CounterAttacks). The next day, Bryant played Sunday in the he Celebrity Soccer Challenge at Kastles Stadium in Washington D.C., an event sponsored by former U.S. women's soccer player Mia Hamm and her husband, ex-Dodger Nomar Garciaparra, a game that hardly put any strain on the Lakers star.
