Lamar Odom exit interview

Items from Lamar Odom's exit interview:

He has avoided leaving his house and has refused to watch television beyond the "500 channels" as he called them, referring to the premium movie channels

Odom admitted the team's cockiness caught up with them.

He expressed regret for getting an ejection after an altercation with Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki.

Odom described his relationship with Phil Jackson as "weird," saying that he grew to relish Jackson's needling because it helped him become a better player.

You knew this was coming

Expanded version of the Lamar Anthem
verses 3 & 4 compliments of chikNstu

sung to the tune of "If I Only Had a Brain" from the movie The Wizard of Oz

I COULD BE A BETTER BALLER
IF MY HEAD WAS ONLY SMALLER
IT JUST GETS IN THE WAY
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD FLY THROUGH THE AIR WITH EASE
AND DUNK IT WITH AUTHORITY
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

I COULD REALLY GET MORE REBOUNDS
IF I DIDNT SMOKE THE 3 POUNDS
I BOUGHT THE OTHER DAY
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD PLAY REALLY FANTASTIC
NOT A DAY WOULD I BE SPASTIC
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

I COULD BE A BETTER SHOOTER
BUT I'D RATHER BE AT HOOTERS
DRINKING BEFORE A GAME
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD MAKE ALL MY 3 POINT SHOTS
BUT HANGOVERS BLUR MY VISION LOTS
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

THEY SAY I COULD BE MAGIC
BUT THAT WOULD BE JUST TRAGIC
TO DRIBBLE MY LIFE AWAY
dodo dodo dodo

SO I'LL TOKE AND TOKE THE CHRONIC
WHO CARES IF IT MAKES ME MORONIC
IT'S ONLY JUST A GAME

THEY SAID WHEN I GOT MARRIED
MY GAME WOULD SOMEHOW VARY
AND LOOK IT’S STILL THE SAME
dodo dodo dodo

SO I SLEEPWALK THROUGH A GAME OR 2
IT’S JUST WHAT YOU’RE ACCUSTOMED TO
DID YOU THINK I’D EVER CHANGE

lakerfan for 40yrs

your opinion holds as much weight as all others, except for the truly innane ones.

so I guess this means you also catergorize yourself as you do others for offering your opinion, or do you think your opinion is exempt from such classification?

lamar say goodbye to L A

And I, yellofever also hereby solemnly declare to temporarily and permanently detach myself from pau gasol from this day forward until the day I die!!

and take your oldlady with u to orlando

So, is he gonna be on Leno tonight? I'm about to go be in the audience, will be interesting to see if he shows up ...

Bynum, Odom & Pau will be "shopped" and then a coach will be chosen once the FO knows what they are "stuck" with. Those 3 are their biggest "assets" and with Dwight, Deron & CP3 approaching "Melo-drama," their respective teams just might be open for negotiation. The larger issue is whether or not anyone will want to play in L.A. with Kobe now that Phil - 13 Rings - is gone.

It's gonna be a cruel summer...

>>>Bynum, Odom & Pau will be "shopped" and then a coach will be chosen once
>>>the FO knows what they are "stuck" with.

Or the other way around. They might find a coach first, decide which of the bigs fit his offensive schemes best, and THEN shop the player[s] who don't fit.

>>>Those 3 are their biggest "assets" and with Dwight, Deron & CP3
>>>approaching "Melo-drama," their respective teams just might be open for
>>>negotiation. The larger issue is whether or not anyone will want to play in

But I do agree that those are their three biggest assets. The other pieces they could offer are Blake (reasonable contract for an okay backup PG), Fisher (with the old opt out / buy out / re-sign with the Lakers okey-doke), Ron Artest, who still has some game and is paid about what he's worth, as well as Ebanks and Character, who have looked better than late second round, but haven't really gotten enough PT to show off yet.

If the Lakers truly could get any of those three names for Bynum or Gasol, I think they'd probably do it. That big of an upgrade at PG is very difficult to find. It's not that Bynum or Gasol are expendable, but the Lakers have a great need at PG and could get by with Odom plus Bynum OR Gasol plus a lesser big to fill out the front court.

Jeez, that's all anyone could get out of LO in his interview?

Where were all the hard-hitting questions from L.A.'s finest beat writers? Where the heck were they? Out in the parking lot, washing Kobe's car? Was there a food table at the press conference?

Come on, guys, you can do better than this. Just because the Lakers played poorly doesn't mean that in turn, the reporting has to be poor.

This is what happens when you're silly enough to marry a Kardashian!

Shopping the three most versatile big men in the NBA won't make this a better team. Don't exchange your complete first generation Star Wars toy collection for a bunch of Lincoln Logs, Jerry.

Find a coach, install a system, then see how your toys work in your new room.

Lock out, if it happens, may actually be a blessing (except Kobe won't get the finger looked at). Gives us time to allow some of these contracts to expire.

Rooting for Memphis, OKC, Chicago in that order, in a passive way. Mainly because I can't stand Dallas, Maimi or Boston. I do not want to see stupid Mark Cuban puff up like a threatened blow fish as he takes all the credit for his teams winnings. I can't stand the thought of Shaq saying, "I haved as many as Kobe." Miami? Puh-lease, no way.

Huh?

DBDH!

Shoot for the stars- D.howard and/or Dwill

And if you get nothing but the sound of crickets for those two Then.....

keep the core the same (Kobe, Odom, Pau, and Bynum), hire Adelman, and get one dimensional speedy PG and one dimensional 3 pt specialist for Artest

And I, yellofever also hereby solemnly declare to temporarily and permanently detach myself from pau gasol from this day forward until the day I die!!

Then go ahead and detach yourself from being a fan of the team that Pau helped win the 2 previous Titles, you front running, fair weather fan.

ooh man how could anyone want adelman, even if he is a very winning coach? Most second raters seem to be exactly that--never winning the big prize (see also Marv Levy, Bud Grant, J Sloan, etc. insert coach here) and stay that way, just like that girl you know who always wants to marry the dream guy but seems to pick the abusive dude, for some inexplicable reason beyond the dimensions of this 3d world. jus sayin

YO bloggers! Why panic? The 80s weren't perfect for the Lakers too! There were those two years when they lost to the Rockets in the WCFs (81 and 86), and they had jelling issues back then. Summary: It happens. That's life. They aren't robots. Just suck it up people, keep your pants on, and let the lakers develop a new hunger again. 3peating is a tiring business these days, and im sorry the lake show got some seriously lucky breaks making it to the 3peat of 2000-2002. They didnt always stream roll the competition. Dont care if PJ was there, or Kobe or Shaq. Luck plays a big part too, and things gotta fall in place.

We'll be back on top. I dont see a need to kick off everyone on the island. As PJ said, they need some speed. So, bye Luke, bye (enter your Laker minimal contributor here), and let's keep the rest intact.

Dang, I think I remember two years ago, all the media was drooling over the lakers, and how fast they were, and how they still have so many years in them, blah blah.

Can we please have some dang sanity in this friggin laker blogosphere?!?!?

Why wouldn't he temporarily detach himself from the season? He's temporarily detached himself from 'stretches' and during games throughout his career.

I don't hate the candy man, but with his wardrobe and choice of women, he's mostly hard to like.

He is who he is and has NBA value. I'd take a trade getting back 80% of his talent for a character player.

Popovich - 4 rings - out in first round
Jackson - 11 rings - out in second round
Rivers - 1 ring - out in second round??

Assuming Boston doesn't do the improbable and come back from a 3-1 deficit, we will be left with Scott Brooks, Lionel Hollins, Rick Carlisle, Larry Drew, Tom Thibodeau, and Erik Spoelstra coaching in the playoffs. None of them have won a ring as a head coach while the most storied and celebrated coaches led high seeds to early exits.

As Phil Jackson said in his exit interview, talent wins rings.

Ok, so who is your choice?

RANDOM LAKERS THOUGHTS !!!
..........................................................
I wish we had some talented outlaw computer types in the blog who could hack their way into Mitch Kupchak’s email account to let us know what kinds of deals the Lakers front office were considering. That would give us a rare glimpse inside the minds of Mitch Kupchak and Lakers management that would be as fascinating to Lakerholics as Osama’s personal journal would be to Homeland Security.

The Lakers’ first priority will be to decide who will be Phil Jackson’s successor as head coach as that decision will in turn determine the team’s offensive and defensive systems to be used going forward and the changes that need to be made in the team’s roster to be able to effectively run those systems. While I love the Triangle Offense, it is far more important that the Lakers to select the right man.
….
While I like and respect Brian Shaw who seems to have the blanket endorsement of Kobe, Fish, and most of the Lakers, I have slowly come to the decision that the Lakers need to bring in a coach from outside of the organization to bring in a fresh point of view and oversee the tweaking of the roster. The selection of the right person for the job is far more important than the offense we would run.

Had we won the championship again, I would have wanted to keep this group together and promote Brian Shaw to replace Phil. But the way we fell apart and were sent fishing in the second round tells me that we just cannot stand pat again. We desperately need leadership and direction from the new coach and probably a new approach on offense and defense to rekindle the team’s desire to win.

The big problem I see with looking outside the organization for the next head coach is the lack of viable candidates who could conceivably step into the giant sized shoes and expectations that Phil Jackson has left behind. Coach K has said he is too old to leave Duke at this point. Rick Adelman, Doc Rivers, and JVG would respectable options but somehow don’t seem right in purple and gold.

My personal choice to succeed Phil has always been Derek Fisher. While he may not have any experience as a head or even an assistant coach, Fish has always been the one player whom NBA general managers agreed would be a great head coach someday. The ideal solution to me is for Derek to retire as a player and then to sign a new contract to become the team’s next head coach.

The beauty of this move is it not only gives the Lakers the ideal head coach, a man deeply respected and loved by everybody on the team, but it also frees $14M in salary and luxury taxes for the next two years that could be used to bolster the roster in needed areas. After all, the last time the Lakers hired a new head coach with minimal coaching experience was Pat Riley, which worked out pretty well.

Commandment #4 and #12

4. Thou shall not mention Paula Gasoft, Lamar Odumb, or Andrew Bynumb.

12. Thou shall watch every episode of a reality TV show featuring any Laker.

The glory days in LAKER Land is OVER!!!

ou guys dont get! When Labron had a boo boo he sat out a few games. Kobe couldnt make a lay up or dunk against Dallas, which showed his foot/ankle was a lot worse than Kobe led on. The only other player who ever played with as many injuries was Iverson. LJ, Wade, Westbrook, Durrant, Anthony, none of these guys could even do half of what Kobe does with half of his injuries. Period! Add Gasol's knee, Lamar shoulder and leg, Blake played hurt, Barnes played hurt; and you wonder why the Lakers didnt play well against Dallas. Last year other than Bonehead Bynum they were all healthy except Kobe's finger and knee and still won it all.

Has everyone forgot, other than the Heat, in the regular season before Kobe's, foot/ankle issues, add that the last game of the year even Gasol got hurt but he played through it, and the bench injuries and they still beat every team out there in a series and this includes the 2 away games in Dallas. The bottom line, a older team doesnt always equate to a slower team but when you add all of the injuries, no kidding, they are not going to far in the playoffs and no wonder they folded in the fourth quarters. I guarantee this, a healthy Lakers team is another NBA Championship. Period!

So I was channel surfing the other night and I flipped on to Khloe and Lamar for about 5 minutes.

I had to change the channel, as I kept thinking, "WHAT THE F***, LAMAR?!?!? WHY ARE YOU DOING ALL THIS DUMB SH*T WHEN YOU SHOULD BE PRACTICING?!?!?! UUURGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find almost all of your post's to be exactly I'm looking for. Would you offer guest writers to write content available for you? I wouldn't mind writing a post or elaborating on some of the subjects you write related to here. Again, awesome blog!
