Exit interview: Kobe Bryant says Lakers' failed title run was a 'wasted year of my life'

Kobe_main

Kobe Bryant exit interview

Kobe Bryant is never much for sentimentality, and he's not going to change any time soon.

So when he reflected Wednesday on the Lakers' underachieving 2010-2011 season, which included being swept in a Western Conference semifinal series, Bryant didn't mince words on his disappointment.

"It was a wasted year of my life," he said in his exit interview.

Among the other highlights:

-- He said he believes that the Lakers can win a title next year with the same roster

-- He said he plans to work on his game during the summer, focusing on leg strength and injury prevention. He added that he doesn't want to get surgery on his right index finger, even if there is an NBA lockout, because the rehab would take too long.

...."It was a wasted year of my life,"....yep, me too....

I couldn't agree more with what Kobe said - it is indeed a wasted year of his life, which was even more hurtful considering his age and the solid team that the Lakers are.

I stopped watching the playoffs, as it's not fun without the Lakers.

was a 'wasted year of my life'

Yeah, you and me both! Tell it like it is Kobe.

We can blame Yoko Dos for this wasted year. Yoko Ono split the Beatles, Yoko Dos, the Lakers.

So Kobe

No surgery on your finger because of the rehab time?

So does this mean we get to watch you fumble passes and weakly dribble again next year?

Get the surgery, the season wont start till january anyway.

I am irritated he won't go get his fingers worked on or at least find options. Finger surgery rehab is maybe max 6 months which takes us to November! NBA probably won't even be playing by then. And remember, we are talking about Kobe who takes zero time for injuries that sit 99% of the rest of the NBA for extended time!

Fortunately this year was not a wasted one, as my life is predicated on my family. I am disappointed that we aren't still playing, but am grateful for the past 3 years of great basketball (2 Titles). I understand what Kobe means from his standpoint, however. Get Deron or Chris and let's go 2011-12 Lakers!

Kobe, if basketball [your job] is the only thing in your life. I feel sorry for you

hey kobester, if you had played team ball from the beginning and played inside out, maybe you would still be in the hunt for another title. too bad you will never learn anything from your second round ouster.

fix the finger!!!! he turnovers are killing us

same team as this year? come one Kobe that's fantasy. this team needs some upgrades. then again, i didn't expect him to throw gasol, fisher, blake and artest under the bus. just how long does it take finger surgery to heal? he has an extra five weeks and counting to do the surgery...likely longer considering the lockout. i'm betting a lot of those turnovers are due to his inability to hold the ball properly.

Get that surgery

I forgot to mention your inconsistent shooting to go along with the fumbled passes and weak dribbling.

This Lakers team was too tired to say the least, one could see in their faces. So many franchises and yet so few of them ever win titles, let alone 3peat back to back.

Pau was tired from playing Bynum's minutes while Bynum was either nursing his health or when healthy, deliberately fouling so that he could rest while Pau was back in the grind. Where is the accountability?

Lakers will be back with some minor additions/deletions.

I feel good for the old laker fans as they will get to witness more titles before the final curtain!

I, too, am not watching any more of these playoffs. The NBA is dead to me, now, too. Go ahead and celebrate, Miami, just don't tell me about it.

I never thought i'd think this, either, but it was Kobe, and not Magic's frustrated hysterics, that nailed exactly how i feel the Lakers put themselves and everyone thru: A wasted year.

I love Kobe's work plan. He's already lined up exactly what went wrong for him this year, how to address it, and what not to do, the surgery that could delay his role in the season.

Assuming David Stern and the rest of the pigs in his owners' mafia will allow us one. Or Kobe will be playing in Europe, as promised. Quick, someone in local tv, buy the rights to televise that league, before the NBA shuts that opportunity down too.

Trade Pau its his fault we lost. Im not watching NBA anymore. Im on strike untill Gasofty is traded...

I agree that he must get that finger fixed. He really fumbled away too many dribbles this year and got stripped far too often. With his legs no longer able to give him the lift he used to have, he's no longer the game changer and game ender that he used to be for the Lakers.

The LA Lakers took their legacy and dropped a deuce on it. Kobe's on the down slope of his career and doesn't do what truly great players like Magic, Oscar Robertson, MJ, Larry Bird, et al have done; he doesn't elevate the play of his teammates at all.

I don't expect to see the Lakers, in this current configuration, being much a threat to anyone, other than hapless point guards who get closelined, low-bridged, or assaulted on a layup.

This team's an embarrassment to the NBA.

Steps to take:

1) Keep the team intact.

2) Pace the team during the course of the regular season

3) Increase intensity of play during the last quarter of the regular to prepare for the playoffs.

5) More importantly, change the mindset of the team.

The early exit is attributable to mindset more than anything. Mental toughness is key in succeeding.

Mr. Kobe, if that was a wasted year of your life, well then, you have no life.

Kobe is an April, May, June kinda guy....not a January, Feb, March so Kobe, fix the finger you'll have plenty of time to recover.

Kobe Bryant is never much for sentimentality, and he's not going to change any time soon.

i.e., Kobe's a D-Bag?

:-)

hey wheres Madina??

can we get this moderation off?

thank you!

i think kobe should fix his digit

As a Clippers fan, I knew the Lakers were done a long time ago. When the Clippers were able to beat the Heat after the Lakers couldn't, that was trouble sign number one. When the Clippers beat the Lakers, who themselves couldn't beat the Heat, that was trouble sign number too.

There is going to be a good basketball team in LA next year, but it isn't going to be the cry babies who got swept in the semi-finals.

This was a wasted year of your life. I'm a season ticket holder and I'm disappointed, however, the season and the play-offs was not a waste. I don't see next year's team being any better. The team is getting old and the salary cap is not going to allow the acquisition any good players in the near future wthout trading most of the starting 5. With the possibility of a lock-out, I would want to see Kobe get his surgery. Who knows the whole season may be wiped out or we may see games with "replacement" players.

trade lamar he too laid back and only worried about tv show

The Lakers were just lacking in motivation. I feel they were bored with the style.

The rest of the league seems to be playing a more up tempo style while the Lakers play that slow boring half court isolation game.
Fisher brings it up, throw it into Kobe, dribble dribble, Kobe passes it, gets it back, turn around jumper...

Jackson never had a game plan, he just rides on the back of great players.

Kobe hardly ever drives to the basket anymore. Lets face it, his whole game has changed, he is just a jump shooter.
Sorry fans but watching the lakers is a snooze fest.
Seriously, the past few years was about best of the worst.

gasol need to be gone

Poor Kobe. Sob, sob. Get a job.

Kobe, have the surgery. the same roster ? I'm not sure of that. a fix is maybe needed at the point guard position. I'm hoping that Odom and Bynam learn from their exit from the final game. I was so disappointed in both of them

Kobe is the self-designated leader of the lakers. Like the arrogant narrow-minded super talented fool that he is, he's insisted on putting himself in the midst of every decision the lakers organization has made over the last several years. Therefore... who is to blame for the Lakers meltdown? KOBE!
Stop wasting OUR time and look beyond the end of your crooked nose, you *%%$@@!!!!!

What a sad, pathetic person. Basketball is so much that its a wasted year.
No family joys. No camaraderie joys, no fun just living in L.A. Wasted year?
How very sad to have so little. Pathetic person.

Maybe the finger doesn't affect his play as much as we think it does. Maybe the turnovers are more about age and mileage than a bad finger. He doesn't have the quickness he once had so that gives opponents more time to get their hands in there.

6 months is a long time to rehab if it isn't going to make a huge difference.

There's lots of reason why this team lost. What's funny is how everyone talks about Kobe being to old, can't lead a team no more etc. what's funny is that a series and two dunks ago eveyone was saying he still got it.well I for one beleives he'd still got it.Kobes' a warrior. This is not a shot at wade, but I remember him in tears, plus a wheelchair for an arm injury. That my friend would never be Kobe. While some try to say he acts tough, but wasn't brought up "streetball" tough. He more than anyone shows he's old school. Not wanting to bring up the mj comparisons but Kobe just hit 32,and despite his injuries,he probably could play till 40 also(lol). What's even more entertaining is that we see guys like kidd, nash, garnett, allen, heck even juwan howard still out there, giving there all(except probably howard). All those guys are way past there experiration dates. I guess like some foods, they are still good even though the date has past.Obviously despite most of those gus still playing you can't name one better than Kobe..I always say it,and Mr. Bryant has just said it again, but he will definately prove a few mofos wrong...........

So then Mr. Big Shot,

Why did you waste it?

When are you going to lead like a man would?

Kobe MUST get the surgery on his finger at a minimum. That or give several million back to the team to get another top player. I'd even venture a guess that he might need more than just the finger worked on. All the years take their toll. Yes even on Kobe Bryant. With the probable lockout now it the time.

For the most part I can understand the comment on the "lost year." The game is what he does and he does it to win. That type of comment is exactly what I would expect from him. I'd be more worried if he didn't say something like that.

There will be some changes coming. As far as how much will really depend on the choice of a coach. Time will tell.

Steve Blake will never win a championship.

@D(erek)J(eter)

"C-Howard
SF-Odom
PF-Artest
SG-Bryant
PG-Williams"

I would love to see this happen with a couple of tweaks. Move Odom to PF and trade away Artest for a shooter. At this point, I would take Ebanks starting over Artest since his long range J is non existant. I'm sure Devin could make a better percentage of wide open shots than Ron made last year.

Wasted? Ya Mean you didn't learn anything from this whole year? Nothing You can reflect on, Nothing You can acknowledge and change, nothing you can address and make Right? Wow? I'll surmise that was a statement of the moment and moving forward, you will pass to the cutter in the lane, and dish off of your penetration rather than being egotistically hostile to teammates getting Love. Otherwise the Lakers Don't need you or the tweeting -unsoph Matt Barnes; thuggin up the locker room ain't Basketball/ sports/ psychological wit... but what Do I know? I couldn't believe we let Ariza go... (And other teams seem to be busy playing basketball to think that Punking Fools" is gonna get the Job Done...)Too much Hype surrounding the Kid for The Kob's to handle... WHo's next Brown, he jumps too High and Get's the Fan's into the game...but he steals Kobe's thunder, better git rid of him..LOL...Sorry, I hate being negative, but I felt it was deserved when talent (and maybe Character?) get's chased out for perceptual lapses, Think We could've used Ariza's points, and D...? ... And Youth? Hind Sight, eh?
Still Love the Lakers, even amidst this turmoil, early exit..maybe next year we'll play a little closer to the vest and give each other love for their contributions, TEAM! instead of SCOWLS for one possession! How's the team supposed to Play for themselves, as if they don't want to do well, when the situations seems to be instead they're supposed to play well for Kobe? That's kinda undermining, and negative...but like I said, What do I know, I'm just watching from the outside... if you ask me Phil was brilliant for giving Kobe exactly what he wanted... sometimes the genie in the bottle knows better...
Go Lakers!

I would just say to all of the Kobe haters that his attitude, selfishness, whatever you want to call him helped push, pull and prod the Lakers to three championship appearances, with two victories. And those of you who ride Jordan's bicycle - just a quick reminder, he wasn't the beloved teammate either... he pushed, pulled and prodded his teammates the same way... he just did it in Chicago, not LA and he wasn't tagged with a Denver incident - or slammed in a book by his coach...

You don't have to like Kobe, you don't have to respect his game and you don't even have to acknowledge his skills, declining or not. What you do have to acknowledge is that he's a league MVP and he has 5 championship rings. PERIOD. Unless you're a Bulls fan, a Jordan fan, you need to stop barking about his game and just pony up to the bar, order yourself a drink and simmer down...

Spoken like a true Spoiled Brat!! What's a matter?? didnt get your way?? now you're pouting??!!! Give me a break!! Your not the youngster who battled with the veteran Jordan back 13 years ago!! You are OLD but a damn good B-ball player so share the damn BALL and elevate your TEAM!! I would say if you dont want to get your finger fixed than ADIOS!! I'd rather have Dwight Howard.....

Boo, hoo, hoo Kobe. Kobe steak, it's what's for dinner. Go Mavericks!

Get The Surgery, Get your hand/head Right....

*****Duplicate **** unsure if post went through thanks-

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering

Mr. Bryant may be out of the running for a hoops trophy, but he's certainly in contention for an award for pure arrogance.

Awwwwwwwwwww....poor baby....

Time to trade this cancer to any team that will take him.

Same team ? So he can do whatever he wants. Shaq, Karl Malone, Gasol, who is the next ? I did not see the leadership from him to save the season, and his teammates. After Odom went out in game 4, he should talk to his teammates, play cool and go home, don't do anything else.

A year wasted? No. An opportunity wasted? Yes.

Kobe just expects (as we do) to win it all every year. Anything less than the Larry O'Brien Trophy is considered unacceptable by his own personal standard. Outrage! A professional athlete considers an early postseason exit a failure? Sacrilege!

Can't blame the guy for feeling like all their collective efforts were for naught. They were!

However, seeing one of the greatest ballers ever for another season, trophy or not, is a blessing many NBA fans never get the chance to enjoy. In our own backyard, no less!

Unplug for a while, Kobe. I'll be waiting for another chance to see you all win another trophy soon enough.

DBDH!

Sometimes Kobe says the dumbest things, Trade Gasol and Artest with picks, prospects, and get a scoring small foward, and a point guard without a walker. Draft and sign free agents for bench depth.

LRob,

Did you really write this?
I agree, but it didn't quite sound like your normal self...

he should be wasting his life in prison.

>>>Kobe, if basketball [your job] is the only thing in your life. I feel sorry for you

I think you're missing some of the gravity of his situation.

Let me offer you this comparison:

How many more years will you be able to work in your profession? I know I should be able to continue working for another 20 years or more.

Kobe's got somewhere between 3 and 5 years to accomplish all he wants to accomplish and then it's over. You don't get a chance at a title every year. Going three years in a row was amazing success. You realize that there are several teams (including the Clippers and I believe Denver) who have NEVER made it to the finals, let alone won a championship.

When you have a limited number of years to make your accomplishments, then a year where you are expected to get to the top and don't could be considered wasted.

I think kobe "me me" bryant is faking the finger problem...isn't it supposedly "broken" or something like that?

Maybe you should give all that money back if it was such as waste.

>>>Awwwwwwwwwww....poor baby....
>>>
>>>Time to trade this cancer to any team that will take him.

How about we trade Doug to the Raptors, or any blog that will take him instead?

Shut up haters, trolls and all of you fairweather fans.We don't bloody care what you says.Lakers will be back with vengeance next year.I'm surprise that their was a lot of GM on this blog so Mitch K watch out.lol...

>>>Spoken like a true Spoiled Brat!!

Spoken like a troll and a hater.

Of course the haters always show up whenever Kobe loses and then they evaporate when he's winning championships.

So I guess you won't be blogging next spring and summer.

quit your crying!

Pau did a tremendous job since 2008. All you D-bags dogging on Pau...the Lakers don't win ANY championships without him...

Pau's temperament fits perfectly dealing the D-bag Bryant....

Apparently D-bag Bryant's wife was too much at the end...

Mucho gracias senior Pau!

It should have been the way around Kobe. "You wasted one year of our lives"

who cares, other things in life other than paying to watch ghettobangers making millions playing basketball.

LRob,

Very astute Ms. Chandlers mom....forget father knows best...mother knows best.

I was handle-jacked.

boo hoo Kobe....call the wahhhhhmbulance

Kobe is a stone cold killer when it comes to bball. Wish his teammates had his same mentality. The Lakers would never lose if that were the case.

A wasted year of HIS life - figures. It's all about Kobe.

For all of you Kobe Lovers, there is a large contingent of Lakers fans (whom you affectionately call "haters", "trolls", etc.) who simply does not like kobe bryant because kobe is a d-bag.

Kobe "me me" Bryant is not even close to Magic, Jordan, etc. and is lucky to be a part of the Lakers organization...

Without the Lakers organization, Kobe would end up just like Allen Iverson.

What kind man rats out his teammates and constantly throws them under the bus? I guess Pau the current victim (Shaq, Malone, etc. being the former victims).

BTW, i'm a season ticket holder and Laker fan since 1987...

Whatcha got now?

Kobe "I want to be like Mike" Bryant....

LOL :-)

I hope he's just being dramatic. The love of his family, time with his kids,
being a millionaire celebrity. Nothing matters but winning a title. By his logic
he's had 5 satisfying years. The rest has been a waste. We can appreciate his focus and unbelievable skill.. but really something missing here.

I'm sorry enough to have witnessed the horrific game 4 this season, without having to listen to the continual conjecture and assumptions being voiced by so many (so-called) Laker "fans" since Sunday's devastating end of the Lakers Championship. WHY are people beating this dead horse? WHY are people pointing fingers at Pau Gasol, Vanessa Bryant, Sylvia Lopez Castro, etc.? WTF? Does anybody have proof any of this crap is even going on? Who cares?! The issue here is BASKETBALL play well, play defense and SCORE. Period. If you can't, sit down on the bench and practice more for next time. I DON"T presume to be qualified to give coaching advice, or recommend a "new" coach, or who to trade for whom, or what goes on in Pau's, Kobe's, or ANYONE's HEAD, except my OWN! How can these fans give all the know-it-all advice anyway? You are not out there on the court, you're not in the Locker room or in the front office making decisions, HOW CAN YOU BE QUALIFIED TO EVEN ATTEMPT to give advice? If you're an ex-Laker or coach or manager, I'd listen, you probably know what's going on better than most. If you are a fan, your job is to CHEER respectfully for your team, and support the organization. If you aren't a fan, shut up and stop reading this blog. Mind your own damn business. Gossip is worthless and is proving to be very dangerous. I'm seething with rage about Andrew Bynum's behaviour. I'm not qualified to suggest any course of punishment or a trade suggestion. I feel slightly better after listening to his apology, but I can't fix the Laker's problems, make them play better or find them a coach. God knows, I wish I could. My job, as a Laker fan, is to cheer for my team, and the players (whomever they may be) next season. Until then, I'll trust the Buss Family. They're the experts!

"injury prevention" is a goal over the summer? 30 is in your rear view Kobe, there is no such thing as injury prevention, just luck from that standpoint.

For the "fans" who think you can trade this guy or that guy, remember the other teams in your fantasy-land trades usually want something decent in exchange. Orlando doesn't want a center with knee and attitude problems in exchange for the Dwight. New Orleans isn't going to trade away their franchise PG for any player on LA's roster. NJ traded for DWill for a reason. More importantly, every GM in the league witnessed how bad the team looked once they faced adversity. Who'd want those guys on their team without Kobe to bail them out?

mass hatred up in this...

Man, sure is depressing reading all these posts by Lakers fans throwing Kobe and various players under the bus. And Lakers haters getting on their high horses rubbing salt on the wound. Ouch!

We've been blessed with our recent back-to-backs not to mention our former championship 3-peat. Have faith in the organization and players. We'll be back next year to re-claim our crown.

Go Lakers!

I can appreciate Kobe's mentality as it relates to his baskeball expectations. I am proud to have him on our team as the world would be better off if more people actually cared as much about their jobs as Kobe does his.

In a society and field where many athletes collect pay checks and give nothing back on the court, it's refreshing to know Kobe cares about winning.

As for his comments regarding the same team could win next year, I would respectfully disagree because this team needs quicker players, big and small, as well as better shooters.

This can be accomplished barring a lockout, as long as Mitch K. does his due diligence and gets the proper players shipped off in the proper trade packages!

Nevertheless, losing the way we did should invite more hunger this time around and give the Lakers and Kobe a couple more titles before he's retired:0)

I went to a dozen Laker games at Staples - Wasted Time

Watched the remaining 70 Laker Regular Season games on TV (210 hours+/-) -Wasted Time

Watched 10 Laker Playoff Games - Wasted Time

Watched Kobe's exit interview - Wasted Time

Thanks for wasting my time Kobe/Lakers!

Kobe, get the finger fixed and take the time off. Your body needs it and the team needs the fewer turnovers.

"I, too, am not watching any more of these playoffs. The NBA is dead to me, now, too. Go ahead and celebrate, Miami, just don't tell me about it."

so many fair-weather NBA fans...this is the best playoff i can remember in quite some time.

WHAT A GREAT F-ING SPORT. KICK THE BUM OUTTA THE NBA. SOUR GRAPES DO NOT MAKE SWEET WINE FOOLISH LITTLE BOY

"Kobe is a stone cold killer when it comes to bball. Wish his teammates had his same mentality. The Lakers would never lose if that were the case."

if kobe's teammates have the same mentality as kobe, then there'd be fights in the locker room every week. just face it, kobe got old right in front of our eyes and kobe haters are lovin' it.

Kobe did waste a year. He is also a step slower and can be guarded, as shown in the playoffs. No more 60 pointers, it's over.

Now the supporting cast has to improve, and he's looking at 2 years at most.

Along with us, he's seeing the twlight of his career.

With too many uncertainties and variables involved in acquiring all-stars Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Dwight Howard, the following is an alternative approach to solving issues with the point guard, 3 point shooting and bench WITHOUT breaking the core nucleus. Outside of Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Odom and Brown there's little to no trade assets, so this proposal takes that into consideration. Here’s the line-up followed by an explanation on how to acquire these players…

DJ Augustin, Kobe, Tayshaun Prince, Gasol, Bynum
Blake, Barnes, Artest, Lamar, Aaron grey
Fisher, Trey Johnson, Ebanks, Luke, (Caracter)

Under current CBA rules…
First, Tayshaun Prince is an unrestricted free agent and can be acquired using the mid-level exception. He’s lengthy, a great defender and a good shooter. He probably wants another shot at a title and what better place than returning to his hometown. He’s gonna have to take a paycut, but going to a championship caliber team and returning home should make his decision easier. Small Forward, 6’9 (14PPG, 47%FG, 34%3P).

Second, Aaron Grey is an unrestricted free agent and can be acquired using the bi-annual exception. He’s young, 7’0, scrappy and hard working. The Lakers have been looking for a suitable back-up Center for years, now they have an opportunity to get one. He’s due $1.1M if he uses his player option…the bi-annual should pay him around the same amount. He has a player option with the Hornets, but the opportunity to play in front of the big, bright lights of Hollywood should be attractive. Center, 7’0 (3.5PPG, 3.5RPG).

Third, DJ Augustin, a 6’0 point guard (14PPG, 6.1APG, 41%FG, 33%3P) plays for the Bobcats. As his numbers suggest, he can distribute, score and shoot. Not to mention he’s young and athletic. If Shannon Brown elects to use his player option, he and a draft pick could be used to acquire DJ Augustin. If Shannon Brown opts out, maybe a sign and trade can be negotiated.

Fourth, resign Trey Johnson. He had great D-league numbers. Let’s see what he’s made of.

Fifth, it’ll be up to management whether they want to use the team option to retain Caracter.

Overall, I think this will make the team younger and athletic, and solve many issues from this past season. Let me know what you think.

Amazing... some of you posting are not real Laker fans. You're that idealistic "Whose on top now" syndrome... problem is you just happen to live in LA....

Those same folks screaming "poor baby"... you're hysterically funny. I don't think anyone who has high expectations for himself and those around him - her needs to apologize for believing that the failure to attain that goal is a waste. You jokers ever wonder why the Laker don't display division banners, or conference titles? It's about championships and if you think that way... believe that way... then anything less is a failure and a waste... Maybe he should apologize for not softening his comments to you crybabies and whiners - and those fair weather fans that seem to flock to the post and taunt your pride in stupidity for everyone else to see... hey... here's the New News for you, if you don't like that guy for whatever reason you have - and you don't like the Lakers, there is always the Toronto Rapters you can root for - and whomever it is they have on their team...

Did you guys even watched the full interview?

The infamous quote"wasted year" was in the final moments of the interview, and I think Kobe made it like some kind of joke. So there you go the media hypes what they want the way they want.

I liked the interview a lot. It's clear Kobe understands well what happened and he also understands what this team needs. He showed confidence in the team & himself.

After the storm came calm & catharsis! Suddenly I feel better.
A lesson to life, after a few days of digesting the elimination I have peace of mind.

Great Player - Great Team

I think it's a sad comment that Kobe feels a year of his life was wasted because the Lakers didn't win a championship. If that's all there is to provide his life with meaning and value, then he should take a long look at his values. The NBA is a bunch of tall guys in shorts trying to put a ball through a hoop. It's entertainment, but ultimately it is unimportant.

WOW is this the Lakers blog or Haters blog???

As for Kobe's finger, its already been noted a couple thousand times that that beyotch is phukked up beyond repair so why sooooooo many suggestions to have it fixed????? It's moot.

I think if he wants to dedicate his offseason to his body and working out (typical Kobe) then thats his perogative. He's a professional athlete, that's what he's supposed to do. Its not to suggest he is not gonna do "family" -- I am sure they'll go on vacation but he has a master plan, can't hate on that!

About saying the team is fine as constructed, what is he gonna say, blow this mofo up?? He did something similar already and practically got castrated for it!! He's leaving that to Mitchie poo.

I ain't madd. I am ova it. We lost, Mavs were better, shoulda coulda woulda isnt gonna change anything..

Hopefully there is a 2012 if not, nothing we can do about it...I love the lakers regardless, thats never gonna change even when they disappoint!!!

HEY KOBE, THE LAST 7 YEARS HAVE BEEN A WASTE OF OUR LIVES.

SINCE 2004, LAKERS HAVE NOT PLAYED ANY TYPE OF TEAM BALL BECAUSE IT HAS ALL BEEN ABOUT KOBIATCH "ME ME" BRYANT.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO GET OLD?

AND MAKING THE ALL DEFENSIVE TEAM?

WHAT A JOKE! WHO DID YOU DEFEND THIS YEAR?

Of course the haters always show up whenever Kobe loses and then they evaporate when he's winning championships.

So I guess you won't be blogging next spring and summer.

LET'S SEE HOW MANY "F-U" OLD MAN KOBE GET THIS SUMMER.

"It was a wasted year of my life," he said in his exit interview.

WELL RETIRE! OR COME OUT AND TELL THE MEDIA YOU HAVE BEEN FAKING THAT FINGER INJURY.

THE LAST 7 YEARS WATCHING YOUR POOR LEADERSHIP AND LACK OF TEAM SKILLS HAVE BEEN A WASTE OF MY LIFE!

his finger can't be fixed now anyway, dummies, u all should be happy he play through it, how about they trade kobe and he comes back and kick LA's butt everytime, i'm sure it's better players u would like to see wear a lakers uniform, lmao!!!!!!!!!! i can't believe people are posting such foolish mess

________

Nice thoughts, but:
(1) T Prince: we don't have the mid-level exception. We used it on Ron-Ron. Too old anyway.

(2) A Gray: We don't have the bi-annual exception either, I don't think. Shannon Brown has it. A decent backup center is a good idea, though.

(3) I like DJ Augustin, but I'm not sure the Bobcats would let him go for just Shannon, and our annual crummy draft picks aren't worth much. A draft pick at the end of round 1 (yes, I still have faith) is almost worse than a high 2 b/c of the guaranteed money.

(4) Agree we should at least bring Trey Johnson into camp, at a minimum.

Anyone who says Kobe is done is ridiculous. The Black Mamba will be back and make all the doubters and naysayers eat their words. Trust me on this. The guy still has a lot of gas in the tank, more than you would expect.

I agree with kobe that there is nothing wrong with this team and they can win in next year. of course what he needs to do is well documented. As for this year being a wasted year of his life i disagree. He is filthy rich, have a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful daughters. He should get his fingers worked on to stop his turnovers.

"It was a wasted year of my life," he said in his exit interview.

WELL KOBE SORRY, THERE NEVER BEEN A "BIG 3" IN LA.

SAYS ALOT ABOUT WHAT OTHER PLAYERS THINK OF YOU.

They are burnt out. That's all. The problem with the Lakers is that they are always way too stressed out. It strips all the joy out of their game. Very often they look like they don't want to be on the court. They are fantastically talented, and when they've got their machine firing on all cylinders, they are unstoppable. But going the whole season stressed-out throughout every single game guarantees that you will burn out, and once that happens, you lose the ability to play at your best. Their new coach and Kobe (as leader) need to learn to motivate the team to perform at their best while still enjoying the game. These are some of the best players on the planet. They should enjoy playing the way that hawks enjoy soaring in the wind and diving down at prey, the way that dolphins enjoy shooting through the water and flying through the air. Taking away their joy is not only cruel, it is counterproductive.

Kobe is a fantastic basketball player, but he's also a very high intensity, high stress guy. That may work for him, but he needs to recognize that that approach does not work for everyone. When the attitude of the players and coaches changes such that each of the Lakers looks forward to getting on the court every night (and every day in practice), they will be back on top.

I wish Kobe had been able to say, "Well, we didn't make it. But I spent another year playing the game I love with the people I love and we had a blast. We learned a lot, and we're looking forward to next season." Then again, if he had been able to say that, he might not have needed to say that, i.e. they would still be playing.

mr. kobe bryant is truly overrated if he wasnt playing for great team the lakers what would BE i think no better than vince carter i think t-mac was better player and steve nash and DIRK is the players in this past generation along with iverson kobe is FINISH plus dude is pure MEDIA hype

I am disappointed that the Lakers did not compete well against the Mavericks; however, this team won back to back championships, which is not bad.

Congradulations Lakes, you have one more NBA title than Bean Towns big three or four; does it really matter, you can put a fork in them.

Go Mavericks. Miami is sucks!

"I can appreciate Kobe's mentality as it relates to his baskeball expectations. I am proud to have him on our team as the world would be better off if more people actually cared as much about their jobs as Kobe does his."

KOBE'S MENTALITY?

- WHY DO YOU THINK GASOL GAVE UP?
- WHY DO YOU THINK BYNUM AND ODOM GOT EJECTED IN GAME 4
- WHY DO YOU THINK THE LAKERS GOT SWEPT IN 4

HIS MENTALITY DOESN'T REFLECT TEAM BASKETBALL.

Dear Kobe,
While as I attempt to understand your "...wasted year" comments from the standpoint of your highly competitive nature, I ask to please reflect on the lives of those that do not earn twenty million per year, perhaps only one hundred thousand or so that did not have a "wasted year" with their families.
Are you not indeed grateful that you live in a country that allows you such opulentce and privilage for simply playing a children's game ?

I wish Kobe had been able to say, "Well, we didn't make it. But I spent another year playing the game I love with the people I love and we had a blast. We learned a lot, and we're looking forward to next season."

YOU USE THE WORD "WE". THAT'S NOT KOBE LOGIC. TO HIM IT'S ALL ABOUT "ME". YOU'LL NEVEE HEAR THE WORD "WE" COME OUT OF THE BALL HOG BRYANT MOUTH. SORRY..
