Ode to Lamar Odom or something like that...

After Lamar Odom won the Sixth Man of the Year award on Monday, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Khloe Kardashian had nothing but good things to say about the lovable man.

Well, almost.

When Kobe Bryant was named MVP of the league in 2008, he bought his teammates expensive watches.

So, after praising Odom for winning the honor, Bryant smiled and jokingly said he expected something nice in return.

Odom may be the best reserve player in the NBA, but his wife acknowledged that when they first met at a nightclub more than a year ago, he wasn't even on her roster.

His charm, however, eventually won her over, and now they have what she calls a very "easy" relationship. But Kardashian still has one complaint: "He's a slob," she said.

I wonder where the Sixth Man of the Year trophy will go?

@Art... say it aint so about coach adelman.. i'm giddy just thinkin about it. he should be everyones #1 choice this offseason so mitch better get to work fast. lets just hope his unexpected resignation has something to do with phils impending retirement.

@Lrob.. i see your point about shaw and maintaining the system but a guy like adelman just doesnt come around very often... can you imagine kobe with a defensive minded team? and sorry but you just cant compare an unproven shaw to an adelman. and i gotta go with hobbit here.. it was a parking lot rant caught on tape not any comments to the media.. and in hindsight of course we'll agree it was a good thing it went public or else mitch keeps a lineup of luke/kwame/smush next to kobe wasting more of his prime years

"Ode to Lamar Odom or something like that..."

John Keats must be rolling in his grave...

Lamar should buy each of his teammates a box of Snickers. :)

LET'S GO LAKESHOW!!!!

yellofever,

Yeah, what you said...

If your interested check out this article on the possibility of Adelman coming to the Lakers and what he would bring, how he could keep but alter the triangle, etc.

http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2011/4/19/2120333/Los-Angeles-Lakers-Head-Coach-Replace-Phil-Jackson-Rick-Adelman

The gift Lamar should give his teammates is FULL focus and 100% effort and intensity for the rest of the playoffs! Ignore the reality show garbage until July!

@art - thanks for article on Adelman.

@art/fever - I'm not opposed to Adelman. I believe he's a very good coach and I believe his personality would be a good fit with this team (unlike Sloan & Van Gundy). However, I still favor BShaw. The only knock I have against Adelman (other than listening to his whiny voice j/k) is not getting the Blazers in the early 90's over the hump. It was inexcusable for that team not to win a title based on the talent they had.

@JovBatz - Good idea...and he can throw in a box for the bloggers as well :-)

@snake - stop sending me to google this early in the morning...lol.

LRob,

don't mean to straddle the fence on you.

The question/issue brings up the issue of privacy vs. public persona.
That is not a simplistic issue.

You could make the argument that all public personas are not allowed to
have private opinions or at least voice them in a public format. I would
agree with that. That would raise the issue of whether a parking lot is a
public format. In my gut, I would say no, a parking lot is not a public
format. Factually, I would have to say yes. it is a public format.

So let's say that he was wrong for ever believing that he could have a
private moment with any of his fans. We're a treacherous lot who will
crucify anyone for a crust of bread and 15 seconds of fame. To rephrase
that to stay on point: He was unprofessional for failing to realize that his
so-called fans would betray him in an unguarded moment. Never let your
guard down.

LRob, just heard your theme for them - Mama said not to come home. We need Mama for tonight not to be absent-minded representatives of purple and gold for tonight. Defend pride not just 6th man award but b2b Champs.

LRob (again) & Yellofever - Brian Shaw as next coach or Adelman NOT ENOUGH we want more of the Championship pedigree. They are no head coach for the team with excellence but a mere Asst. Coaches. Adelman is good but has no ring in his resume. Shaw got the ring as a player, asst. coach but not proven as an independent Head Coach. Rambis may be fired from Minny but not proven as a good replacement either. It has to be an established name with aura of motivation and charisma for the fans that the work of PJ were not left in vain. Maybe, we can try Coach K come to NBA or a gang of Showtime Lakers with combined heads of Worthy/Cooper/CAp and include here Shaw and Rambis as asst. I say try Coop or Kareem as head coach. For the triangle to work, it has to be PJ as the head coach. It is tedious, boring and well known to the league. We need a fresh approach for the new coach or bring back the showtime era of run, run, run.

First request for today in absence of Mamba24, don't waste your time in entertaining trolls. No identity means no response. They are the equivalent of black ants and roaches looking for your sugar and honey in the blog.

Second request, please put more emotions in absence of a roll call and a game day prayer. If possible avoid debates among one another but UNITE under one banner of the purple and gold. No more white uniforms on Wednesday. (Ihope)

Adelman for coach, simple as that

@hobbit - fair enough.

@Edwin - If you want the Lakers to run, run, run with Artest, Pau and Drew in the starting lineup then that's a recipe for disaster.

LRob, I'm not finish perhaps let's postpone the subject till the Lakers punch out. I don't like to talk about trades on the 2nd game of the playoff but somebody suggested a reunion of Dwight, Paul with Kobe under purple and gold, that seems to be very attractive. It produces goose pimples, really good as it gets.

@Lrob.. in defense of adelman in the early 90s he was caught in between 3 dynasties.. lost to pistons 1990, lakers 91, and bulls 92 i think.. do you know how many HOF he went against when his best player was clyde drexler not exactly known to rising to the occasion and more like the modern day joe johnson

@edwin.. i'll still take an experienced adelman without the rings over an inexperienced championship pedigree ASST COACH who rodes phils bench for the last 5 years

Yellofever, as Yogi said it is not over yet..... perhaps we can revisit that topic after the Championship, there are so many scenarios and alternatives available but don't call the Lakers off on the 2nd game of the playoffs. They're still alive and kickin' except the Catalan.

Lets hope the Lakers do not make the same mistakes today in game 2 as highlighted below:

Snippet:
"We didn't get the ball inside, which is one of our strengths," Jackson said after a loss to Hornets

Snippet:
"I like to see everybody involved in the game," Jackson said. "I've tried to preach as a basketball coach, even though we have a guy that dominates the ball in Kobe, basketball is not a one on one game — it's a team game."

Snippet:
"Ron was probably the best player we had out there [Sunday]," Coach Phil Jackson said. "Kobe had a lot of points but Ron was, I thought, keyed and ready to go and played well."

Snippet:
"I've just got to make myself available whether the ball is coming or not. I've just got to be there and get myself active and don't get discouraged whatsoever if the ball is not coming."

Snippet:
Odom, while not mentioning Bryant by name, added, "We didn't get guys involved in the game … Everyone who is in this locker room, we have to use them."

Edwin,

This Lakers team will never be a showtime team, Fish as magic???
If you want a coach with Rings, well, Pop and the Doc are about the only choices, not realistic. Coach K has made clear he isn't interested.

As for any of the old Lakers like Kareem, Coop etc, I wouldn't go there, but that just my opinion.

It will need to be a coach who can tweak/alter and add to the Triangle, but not totally dismantle it and one who can manage this group and have their respect.

This is a relatively old team, they will never be speedsters without some big changes. Not a lot of good choices, may be Shaw by default, but I would go with Adelman if possible.

Bottom line, whoever gets it will have an impossible task of trying to get to the Finals a 5th straight time if they get there this year.

Anyway, fine with me to put this on a back burner to simmer until after the playoffs though any CEO worth his salt would be thinking about this now and would have been thinking about it for a while now.

But alas, we are just lowly fans, the peons of Stern and the gang...

We're a treacherous lot who will crucify anyone for a crust of bread and 15 seconds of fame.

Lol, indeed.
Unfortunately, that's true of many.

Mornin' CRUE!
justa checking for roll call
GAME DAY BABY!!!
I wouldn't go so far as to say this is a "must win" but I will say that I want it and I want it baaaaad.
Black Mamba - Screaming Pau - Bulldog Fisher - Beast Bynum - Crazy RonRon - 6th Man LO - Killer B's
THESE are the guys I want showing up tonight.
No excuses. NO SYMPATHY. Just do it.
GO LAKERS!!

@edwin.. yes this should be priority #1 in the offseason but i hope mitch is already reaching out to adelmans agent NOW.. dont think any tampering rules apply since he resigned

@art... thx for the article. great link. undoubtedly one of the most underrated and underappreciated coaches today. lets not forget he also took the kings to the brink against the lakers and probably gets another few rings if not for the shaq/kobe era... and lets not forget he also finally took tmac past the first round.. one of his biggest accomplishments thus far! LoL

Art & Yellofever,

I'm tempted to speak more on the subject matter but it will on trigger demotivation to our players and coaches still competing for three peat. Pardon me for not expounding furthermore, I will reserve my reply some other day. Have faith, we can win this Championship for the third time.

Go Lakers give them hell today.

Justa,

Couldn't agree with you more. Let's do this, boys.

Go Lake Show!

RESPONSE:

You are a hypocrite and why? You continue to support your mentee mamba24 in spite of recent fall out, recall 'stalker" and you turn around and bash posters who chose to exercise safety from your dear friends whom you continue to sponsor. Since you are the mentor and it shows what a wonderful job you have done on your mentee, is it a reflection on you? Shame on you!!

Reality TV is the Devil.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

The next 2 games are must wins for the Lakers! Gotta take back HCA ASAP.

@Justa
We want more than just a check in!!!

@NuggetsC
Agreed.

I can't beleive how much Plaschke can try to tear down Lamar during this very special time in his life. I anyone could be seen as a role model in professional sports, it is Lamar. The guy has been through so much tragedy in his life and didn't use those trials to go off the deep end.

As for Adelman as our coach next year- I would do it. He is battle tested, and might actually have some plays to run at the end of tight games.

@YELLOWFEVER ... “and in hindsight of course we'll agree it was a good thing it went public or else mitch keeps a lineup of luke/kwame/smush next to kobe wasting more of his prime years.”
...
LOL. No disrespect but hindsight doesn’t work too well when your memory of the facts is wrong. In between the rant in the parking lot and Mitch trading Kwame came the emergence of Drew which led Kobe to say that the Lakers were a championship caliber team with Drew. It was the subsequent injury to Drew after Kobe made those comments that led Jerry Buss and Mitch to call Memphis about Pau Gasol. The rant had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Lakers making the Pau Gasol trade.
............................................................
TOM

Doc Rivers can coach, Dantoni can't.

Rick Adelman to the Lakers? Oh, HELL YEAH. Aside from Phil, Poppovich and maybe Thibedeau, there isn't another coach I would rather have coaching this team. As Art's article mentioned, Kobe would thrive in his system, as would Artest, who played like an all-star under Adelman. He had the balls to bench his up and coming star PG, Aaron Brooks, to start his backup, Kyle Lowry to the surprise of many, but nobody is questioning that decision now. The man is just a smart dude who makes solid adjustments in the playoffs, and knows how to maximize his talent. With less talent, he has gone toe to toe with Phil and has always held his own, and than some. Adelman would be the PERFECT fit for this team.

Actually, my number one choice for head coach next year is Jerry Sloan. This guy sits players who don't give 100% each and every minute they are out on the floor. Just imagine how drastically this would change the mindset of the Laker's squad. There would be a lot less stretches where players would be left to "figure it out" on their own. I feel that his leadership style would remove the "practice season" philosophy that this squad has adopted.

Just thinnk, we wouldn't have to worry about spending our hard earned cash to attend a game where the players felt like mailing it in for a night.

Shaw as the Lakers next coach=Fisher as the Lakers starter still.
Anyone else as Lakers coach=Fisher rarely touching an NBA court again.

After watching the Dallas game last night, I can't help to think of what a huge mistake it was to let Stojacavic sign with the Mavs. He is exactly what this team has been lacking for years- a shooter how can drain the wide open longball. Yes, he can't defend a tree and can't take it to the hole anymore, but he can still shoot better than anyone off of our bench minus Lamar.

Right On! Right On!

That would be refreshing, wouldn't it!?

Hopefully we won't need to 'worry' about it until Late June!

McLyne,

Sloan would be an enforcer, and would most likely make the team hustle more in the regular season (which would result in a better regular season record), but that's not what this aging, battle tested, veteran team needs. He might be a good fit for the Clippers, but this Lakers team needs a players' coach. Sloan would be an awful fit for this team. In past playoffs, he has had a history of being stubborn with making adjustments (the exact opposite of Adelman in this regard), and has been criticized for marginalizing the importance of watching game tape. He is old school, and only knows ONE way to coach. He's had a distinguished coaching career, but no thanks to Jerry Sloan on this Lakers team.

Reportedly the Lakers were one of the teams he was willing to sign with. I don't know if Dallas was his top choice or if LA just wasn't interested but guys like him are a huge asset in the playoffs.

He may not play top notch defense but he'd certainly be more useful than some of the guys at the end of the Lakers bench.

@Edwin... I couldn't agree with you more. The focus needs to be on winning another Championship, and just ignoring the trolls. When we WIN THEY are DEFEATED any way and for the rest of the Summer they go on with their tails tucked between their legs. That will be our time to GLOAT!!!
I for one am so proud of Lamar and while watching his award, got a little emotional, knowing he was missing his Mom and Grandma. Plashke...You are a douche bag and very ignorant to take away the glory of LO's day!!! Also, first one on the bandwagon when were winning, but jumps OFF very fast. Either you believe in the Lakers or you don't and a REAL Lakerholic belives we can wither the storm!!!

Pau i know you are frustrated with the selfish black mamba. I know he takes 3 times as many shots as you and disrupts the zen master game plan and try to blame you for any laker failures. But please pau give the hornets a beat down tonight.
