NBA suspends Matt Barnes for one game
The NBA on Friday suspended Lakers forward Matt Barnes for one game, without pay, because of his altercation in the fourth quarter of Thursday's win over Dallas.
Barnes will miss Friday's game against Utah in Salt Lake City. The suspension will cost Barnes $17,650.
Barnes was one of five players ejected in Thursday's Lakers-Mavericks game, but apparently was the only one suspended by the league.
The altercation began in the fourth quarter when Dallas guard Jason Terry gave Lakers guard Steve Blake a hard shove on a drive to the basket. Blake and Terry went nose to nose, then Barnes jumped in and pushed Terry. Dallas assistant coach Terry Stotts grabbed Barnes but Barnes broke free and Stotts fell into some courtside seats. Blake was ejected from the game.
Terry was also ejected and given a flagrant foul two; on Friday the league reduced Terry's foul to a flagrant foul. Dallas center Brendan Haywood was ejected for his part in the Blake-Terry scuffle. Later in the quarter, Lakers guard Shannon Brown was ejected for shoving Dallas forward Brian Cardinal.
After he was suspended, Barnes tweeted: "Me & the Golden St homies laid out the blueprint on how to beat Dallas. "PUNK' EM"...So enough w/the small talk."
