Long-distance dedications for Miami Heat

We all know there's no crying in baseball ... but apparently there is in basketball. Miami Coach Eric Spoelstra told reporters after the Heat's 87-86 loss (their fourth straight) to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, "This is painful for every single one of us going through this, there are a couple of guys crying in the locker room."

Not sure what that scene looked like. Could have been a couple of tears rolling down their cheeks, like Sinead O'Connor in the "Nothing Compares 2 U" music video, Or maybe it was an all-out sobfest like Ben Stiller at the end of "There's Something About Mary."

We all know that there's nothing like a good song to help cheer someone up. And being the compassionate bunch that they are, many Lakers blog readers have been sending out "heartfelt" songs to the Heat and their fans. Here's a video jukebox for anyone who wants to make a long-distance dedication to our sad friends in the Southeast (thanks to readers Regular Season Police for Ozzy and LRob for Fergie).

Or you can suggest a song of your own -- you know, to make those guys feel better. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comment section.

LakerTom,

re: the kids crying after losses. Quick. Go to NetFlix and get "300". Stat!

"Coach Eric Spoelstra... 'This is painful for every single one of us going through this, there are a couple of guys crying in the locker room.'"

This is why the press is so disliked. Coach comes out and tries to give honest, heartfelt answers and now the team is ridiculed. So predictable. Let the late night hosts make fun and we have the audacity to complain about the players being short with the press and not giving honest interviews. Coach's comments being “flamed” are just another reason why. I prefer my news to be reported and if I feel like reading someone's opinion, I'll head over to the editorial section.

___________

There have been only two surprises this entire season so far and it has been the losses to some of the worse teams in the league that happened in the first half and yesterday’s blow out of the 1st place team in the NBA
The fact that Andrew is contributing should come as no surprise. Everyone realizes he is the key to the Lakers winning another championship and he comes with only one caveat: the health of his knees and thank goodness, he's still around and actually getting healthier while playing some NBA minutes. Phil and his staff are doing a great job rationing his NBA minutes so he can be unleashed in the playoffs.

The 2nd half performance should be no surprise either. How many of us have written that they will come out and play after the All Star break? The only surprise for this half so far is yesterday's blow out, not the win.

Another surprise will be ending the road trip 4-0 and beating Orlando afterwards at home. Not because they aren't capable, but due to the fact that this team can lose concentration which leads to premature perimeter shots throughout the game and defensive mistakes at the end of the close ones.

Right now, this team realizes two things: they have to finish no less than the 2nd seed in the west and more importantly, finish with a better record than the eastern conference champs in order to secure the coveted HCA for the Finals. Let’s hope that health will prevail because if it does, then everything will fall into its proper place.
Hard to predict the outcome of the road games but they should be able to beat ATL and Miami. Dallas matches up pretty good with L.A. having Dirk, Tyson, and the two-headed Jasons but this game will come down to desire and who wants it more. Advantage: Lakers. They are certainly on a mission. The Lakers will have an opportunity to pick up a whole game on Dallas with a victory. I’m calling 4-0 for the road trip.

"It's very important for us to go out here and do what we need to do on this road trip and win these games. Fortunately, there are not back-to-backs, so we have a day to prepare for each of them. So we really want to win these games, not just for the standings, but to send a message and let everybody know we're here and we're serious." A Bynum 3/4/11

"Everything about the Lakers is geared toward winning playoff games. It's what they do." J.A. Adande

"Even when we didn’t make the playoffs, I thought we'd win the championship." Dr. Buss

"WHEN WILL LEBRON TAKE HIS TALENTS TO THE 4TH QUARTER?" LOSO

Ricky,

We appreciate your insight and take on Pau. We also highly recommend that you continue to communicate in English as you may have noticed that this blog is sourced from LA an English speaking community. For exmaple, few years ago Edwin's written english was marginal but I have noticed that over the past few years he has made tremendous progress and is much better writer. I am sure it helps him in his day to work as well.
Cheers!!

And, of course, the title of this one says it all about Lebron and the Heat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGqrvn3q1oo

Actually, I hardly count the Heat out, but it does point out a vulnerability. Hit them hard and pound on them. Let them doubt themselves come closin' time. Like teams know to muscle Pau hard (if they don't get the fouls), or leave Ron too much time on the open 3 (DON'T LET THAT MAN THINK! Just shoot the ball man!), or with Kobe you... er, um... well, nuthin' there. But you get the idea. I think the Heat might have a bit of a mental thang now, and teams will try to exploit it.

@JON K… We’ll have to agree to disagree about crying. I just told my kids to chin up and always remember that this is still the “practice” season and that we would get them again in the playoffs. Frankly, I have no problem with 1o year old kids crying. To me, it just showed how very much they cared about winning or losing. I see too many young kids now just sleep walking through sports. Give me a kid who is not afraid to put everything on the line over a sleep walker any old day. So in my book, there’s nothing wrong with kids crying – or frankly, even adults. At least, the Heat care.
….
My team motto and goal for the season was to teach these kids how to “go all out,” how to not be afraid or hesitant when they get the ball, but how to go for it and experience the euphoria of making a basket or blocking a shot or stealing the ball or grabbing a rebound. I want them to wear their emotions on their sleeves. If they never learn to go all out, they’ll never experience the thrill of greatness. They need to learn what they are capable of and going all out and playing with emotion and confidence is a life lesson they will cherish. It’s how I played, how I coach, and what I believe in. Personally, I was not a crier when I played but now I find even a sad country song will bring tears to my eyes and when Drew plays like he did the last 2 games, I can’t help getting misty.
…………………………….
TOM

Why isn't Kobe at the top of the MVP list? Is it possible he'll have just 1 season MVP in his career? Why are we always looking for the new guy? Rose is doing well, but is he playing better than Kobe? I suppose Kobe will just have to happy with a 3rd Finals MVP this year, ha, ha.

my response: Sad to say, you've got this all wrong. I am not an escrima master.

What manner of Madness is this??? You sir are an Escrima Master and as a matter of fact I was about to broach an offer to you to be one of the Pretorian guards for...RICKY!!!! Yes, yes, Yes!!! I bet you change your tune now and say Mamba24 yes I am an Escrima Master and I volunteer, VOLUNTEER I say with no thought of renumeration to protect The Genius of Ricky!!! Now stop it Hobbit stop it!!! Don't thank me!! You sir have earned this honor!!!

I am a Lakers fan for 40 years and not a Heat fan, but so what if a "couple guys were crying" after the game? To me it shows passion. Remember a few years back, Fish and Kobe? Anyone question their caring and dedication toward winning? Let's hope that the Heat don't follow up with Laker success!

Yes get it stat LakerTom, these are the Elite guards of...RICKY!! And they cry when they are not chosen to guard him for the day!!! And Now HobbitMage will become one of the Ricky Elite Guards!!!!!!!!!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4a6hdxdIbk&feature=related

LakerTom - I saw this "I find even a sad country song will bring tears to my eyes" and it brought to mind another very country song that should be dedicated to the Heat. One sung by the late great Lefty Golefty and His All Washboard and Lap Pedal Band:

"Are you lonesome tonight?
Your shots not dropping right?
Has another elite team got you beat?

When the opposing point guard.
Makes you look bad in your own yard.
It’s time for you to cry in defeat.

But buck yup little ‘Bron,
Not everything’s gone wrong.
It’s just a dose of reality.

So put on your grin,
You can still get the win.
If only as Miss Congeniality."

I give LakerTom credit for supporting Drew all along. I have not done that and probably would still swap him for Dwight yesterday, today and tomorrow, but I am pleased to see Drew step up! People shouldn't assume that certain people don't like a player when they think another is better. Could be right, could be wrong. I am hoping that LakerTom is right, cuz that would mean 3-PEAT babeee!

Yep. He'll have plenty of time for posing while he's watching the Lakers beat the Bulls in the finals on his big screen TV.

BTW, good thing Ainge didnt listen to you and wait for Brewer to be our back up 3. LMAO!!

Laker Tom,

Like I said, you are doing those kids no favors by letting them cry.

Very often in life the "nice" thing to do is the wrong thing to do.

Tough love is very difficult to give, but it is very important to give it at the right times.

The answer is simple, in the NBA community especially those who are empowered to vote towards the MVP honors do not consider Kobe as MVP material, go figure!

Yes it is a good thing 131, but there is one man, One Man of towering intellect that he would listen to...YES YES YES....RICKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

WHEN IS IT OKAY FOR A MAN TO CRY?

1. A family member dies.
2. A friend dies
3. Their dog dies
4. A romantic love/partner leaves/divorce
5. Moments of extreme phsycial pain (EXTREME pain like having the insides of your intestines scraped out with metal or having your kneecap shattered... extreme pain)
6. Losing in the Conference Finals or FINALS in any sport (especially after dealing with a season of Shaq's crap)
7. Losing your final game of your Senior year in college when you know you're not going to the pros
8. Watching your baby being born
9. Watching the last scenes of "It's A Wonderful Life"

THAT'S IT! THAT'S IT!!!

When is it NOT okay for a man to cry?

1. During a regular season loss
2. After being elected to the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives
3. After finding out your mom is having sex with Delonte West
4. While watching "Oprah"

Okay, are we understood on this now?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

NorCal,

Yeah, I know the answer, but seems odd that Kobe will probably be the NBA All Time scoring leader with 6-8 Rings, 4-5 Finals MVP's and most dedicated and spectacular winner in this Era and wind up with 1 Season MVP.

That's very funny and probably close to the truth (no pun intended toward PP) Jon K.

frmkt,

Listen, man.

If LeBron is crying after losing four in a row, how do you think his former teammates on the Cavs and his friends feel?

If losing four games is enough to make him cry, how much pain did he bring to others by abandoning the Cavs as he did?

REAL MEN DON'T CRY DURING REGULAR SEASON LOSSES!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

@Chuck S – Anyone that can weave in Smokey with a Hank Jr. and Sr. remix and toss in a little Leslie Gore, JT, Orbison and Aerosmith is alright with me.

@Mark G – See what you started by posting that Meters jam earlier.

@63 Footer – Mr. Music himself reappears to drop a little knowledge. That Janis sounded epic. Marley was incredible and you even threw in Elvis remake of the Orioles classic. I don’t count the Heat out either. Too much bball left too be played. I’m surprised you didn’t include this in your medley.

Jon K,

Haha, good points. When athletes cry, they usually shed tears of joy or sadness (or physical pain). The Heat were shedding tears for a different reason altogether - FEAR. Fear that everyone hates them, fear of the pressure and expectations, and last but not least, fear that they are simply not good enough when the game is on the line. Real men /real gamers do not cry from fear.......

Like I said I don’t see anything wrong with crying occasionally if your emotions bubble over. As long as it’s not a regular occurrence. Anyway here are a couple of others I’ll dedicate to the Heat.

Let’s not forget about Jay Z with Jaguar Wright on vocals
Song Cry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5srnNrICJo

Little Anthony – Tears on my Pillow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqUG6YBgLAw

And of course we can’t forget about Axl, Slash and the fellas
Don’t Cry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRIbf6JqkNc

Mamba24,

I'm not going to get into 'should athlete's cry' debate. I don't care. Kobe cried, Fish cried, a lot of athletes cry.

I'm not going to debate that team's turmoil, it's there, it's tangible, it's concrete. It's real and its very heavy, you can feel the weight all the way from Miami. They have to look at themselves in the mirror, individually and stop yelling at each other first, and look at themselves, if they want to have a chance when it really counts.

I will defend Eric Spoelstra as being misquoted since the beginning of the whole crying gate.

Reporter Michael Wallace asked Eric Spoelstra if the team was starting to crack under the pressure, if the team is sputtering in the face of pressure, dadada, etc.

He was quoted as saying 'Who Cares?'. Matter of fact statement, now if only include the crying bit, the whole statement is taken out of context. 'Who cares' means, they're pros, it's not about crying or purging. It's about executing and if they're going to cry about it, fine. If they don't start executing all the tears of passion won't save a sinking ship.

PLG,

Here’s one more for you. The impact the Lakers had on the Spurs practice today. They even used the dreaded “S” word….

“There was a big emphasis on how we played yesterday,” Blair said. “We played soft. Terrible, I guess. “That’s how the game showed. We played like we didn’t want to play. There was a lack of focus, lack of competitiveness and Pop was just all on it today. We had a great practice.”

Where are the Ron Artest defensive team nominations coming from all of a sudden? Almost all year we have been talking about how he isn't showing up. Did his play in the last 4-5 games atone for the 50 or so he was mostly disappointing in?

Well it did for me but...Then again I'm a Laker Fan...How about you?

Posted by: Bay to LA | March 07, 2011 at 03:13 PM

Lets hope that he shows up when it would count the most that is post season.

I am not happy that Bynum called the Spurs "quitters."

Has he lost his mind? If any team has pride it's the Spurs. Bad move Andrew. I expect that the next time we play the Spurs will win, if for nor other reason than Bynum's comments.

Oh well...

Fear is incredibly powerful and mere mortals are known to cry and POOP in their pants.

Yeah, I'll also throw some support to Laker Tom who stuck by his man when the tide was pulling elsewhere....

Andrew was a beast yesterday.

Wes

wesjoenixon,

"I am not happy that Bynum called the Spurs "quitters.""

Nor am I.

The Spurs are a quality team. We don't need to give them additional psychological motivation.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Rightfully so because Drew made them quit!!

I think Ron has been good defensively most of the season. I just think many here don't appreciate that as much unless he's making shots also. Take the first game in Charlotte for example. Ron plays absolutely lights out defense on Capt Jack holding him to 9pts on 3-10 shooting with 3 turnovers. Yet there was almost nary a mention of him of his outstanding play on the blog...except for either Sean or BronxLakerFan.

Ron probably doesn't deserve 1st team this year, but maybe 2nd team. He deserved 1st team last year but the award went to Kobe.

WAR Kobe talking smack to teh haters in the crowd and on the opponent's bench.

WAR PJ leaving the starters in for whatever reason well into the fourth.

WAR Fish and Barnes fighting through injuries to make the SA game a full scale clinic.

WAR keeping the SA Big Three to a minimum level of scoring impact.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH.

mamba24, good sir, please bandwagon me! #BICEPKISS #WINNING

Timing is everything, and time must have frozen the moment the Heat did this horrible, horrible "we did it!" celebration--because karma had lots of time to sneak up from behind and take 3 huge bites from the buddocks of these clowns.

Didn't they realize that just a month or so before this event the laker chose not to add this kind of celebration to their parade? And the Lakers had a reason to party, they actually won a freakin championship.

That video is crazy.

The Flamin' Groovies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLH9ABwkTEk

"Ron probably doesn't deserve 1st team this year, but maybe 2nd team. He deserved 1st team last year but the award went to Kobe.

Posted by: LRob | March 07, 2011 at 03:24 PM "

Last year I think his plantar fasciitis kept him from getting recognized. It slowed him down for a lot of the season but played solid defense toward the end. If he would have played the same level of defense all year I'm sure he would have made one of the teams.

This year, I just haven't seen consistent effort from him. I know he has a tendency to lose himself in the offense but this is the first year I've seen him do the same thing on the defensive side.

Speaking of tears, I remember not being able to close the tear faucet for this sad, sad moment. Yes, it's the final, departing scene from "Pete's Dragon."

Sniff, sniff....start at the 3:25 mark... "You won't be back...?"

*sniff* *sniff* ....Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

They fired Charlie Sheen from his show today. That is a bad move. I'm sorry, but all the stuff he's doing is outside of the office, and I think termination is uncalled for. Whats next, me getting fired for looking at busty Japanese cheerleaders online?

I won't give them up, even if it costs me a job.

*____________________________________________________________________________*
(01) JON K. - OWNER - I mean, come on! Wouldn't you pay to see that movie? You know, THAT movie where Charlie Sheen joins the Lakers and leads them to a Championship over the dreaded Boston Septics! THAT movie! The scenes where Charlie and Ron debate the future of the Lakers would be worth the price of admission alone!!! Can you imagine the dialog? Sweet, sweet, gentle genius. BRING IT!!! {SIGN CHARLIE SHEEN NOW!!!}
(02) MAMBA24 - DRIVER - CHARLIE SHEEN...LETS RIDE AMIGO!!!
(03) WESJOENIXON - RIDING SHOTGUN - They fired Charlie Sheen from his show today. That is a bad move. I'm sorry, but all the stuff he's doing is outside of the office, and I think termination is uncalled for. Whats next, me getting fired for looking at busty Japanese cheerleaders online?

Jon K - it's not like anyone had the nerve to tell Rosey he was wrong!

Shame about Charlie and Lorre. But Charlie'll do some movies for a while now. Not gonna change his life any.

PUT RON ARTEST ON NBA ALL DEFENSIVE 1st. TEAM - BANDWAGON
*________________________________________________________________*
(01) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - OWNER - Jon K - yes!! I absolutely agree with Ron Artest on the All Defensive Team. Maybe we should start that bandwagon right now so he gets our early message!!!!
(02) JON K. - DRIVER - By the way, if Ron Artest isn't selected to the All-Defensive Team this year, there's going to be a riot in David Stern's soon-to-be-burning house.
(03) MAMBA24 - RIDING SHOTGUN - NO RON ON DEFENSIVE TEAM NO PEACE!!!!!
(04) FAN OF THE MAMBA - RIDING SHOTGUN2 - put me on the Ron Artest bandwagon! DEFENSE Wins Championships BABEEE!!!!
(05) D(EREK) J(ETER) - SECURITY - Ron on the 1st team all D, well, duhhh!
(06) SEELY-IGGY - WARRIOR PRINCESS - Ron Artest is a stud on defense. It's a travesty to not have him on the ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM. The Coffee Crasher rules!!! Count me in on the bandwagon.
(7) LAKERTOM - ENFORCER - Please add me to the Ron Artest All-NBA Defensive Team bandwagon. The best hands bar none in the entire NBA. This is an award that only the top scorers in the league should vote for – LeBron, Pierce, Durant, Manu, Kobe. Then Ron would make the team for sure.
(8) LEWSTRS - Please include me on The Ron Ron Bandwagon...I love me some Ron Ron...

mamba24 - I'm kissin' my bicep for joy in hopin' Ron makes the team. Him AND Kobe... rather have that than All-Stars.

LRob- Who could say no to Fergie? Is this really all my fault?

Just for the Record I love this thread!

Jon K,

What about during the end of the movie Brian's Song?
