Lakers Chat: Lakers vs. Mavericks

Tweetable items from Lakers Coach Phil Jackson

On Dirk Nowitzki: "He can shoot his shot out of a wheelchair. That guy is going to play forever. He's such a great shooter, but he definitely runs with a limited gate. He's got to work at that run. You can see that when you watch him run. We like to take advantage of that when we can."

On if Dallas is better than in other seasons: "I wouldn't say that. I think Chandler brings them a really good defensive presence out there. I think that's great. Marion is a wildcard they can use. Terry is also in those situations. The team speed isn't there they used to have. They don't offensive rebound very well. There's a couple things there that they've done better in the past. That team that won 60-something games, they got eliminated and the team that went to the Finals, those two teams were very good teams and deep teams. So I wouldn't say this team is any better than that team."

Tweetable items from Theo Ratliff

--He has been cleared to play and will be in uniform Thursday against Dallas, coinciding with Derrick Caracter being sent down to the Bakersfield Jam

--He acknowledged he's felt sore after full-contact practices, but he's able to jump. "I didn't want to go out on a stretcher. It's always good to get the uniform back on, get back with the guys and see what happens."

--Ratliff said he had arthritis and "bone-on-bone" issues with his surgically repaired left knee. "There were definite setbacks. I'm not a young cat and I already had issues going on with my knee."

Let's go Ls...all the way to a 3-peat!!!!!

Not in our house tonight Mavs.

Go Lakers!

Game is over!!!!

mavericks continue to prove they are now the dirtiest, thug players in the league. what a bunch of sore losers!

There should absolutely not be any Laker suspensions! And if Terry does not get 2 games, there is absolutely no justice in the NBA

Dallas just tasted what the CHAMPION is all about!!!

Nice to see Ratliff, Smith, and Luke as I hoped.

That's all I can say.....

Playoff atmosphere hit the big city tonight. Loved the intensity and our team backing each other. LO was amazing and some of our starters got a little rest for tomorrow's game in Utah.

GREAT GAME...

Andrew "Beast" Bynum played 37 minutes, more than any other Lakers, and 18 pts/13 rebounds. If he plays like this, no one can beat the Lakers!!!

I love the trolls that come out of the woodwork during a beatdown such as the one we witnessed tonight. The rest of the league has officially been put on notice: WE HAVE WORMSIGN THE LIKES OF WHICH EVEN GOD HAS NEVER SEEN!!!

For your reading pleasure:

Putrid - we have trolls with better blog skills in their pinkies that the ish youre posting up now. Get your busta @$$ off this blog and bow down to your BACK-TO-BACK WORLD CHAMPION LOS ANGELES LAKERS. Silly foo, go back to yo momma, she waiting for ya.

big bad ass bynum, LO, pau, black mamba and company just showed the dallas thugs a preview of what they would be facing in a second round match. the no talent, no size mavericks would get destroyed in all categories of the game. whether it be in the paint, on the boards, defense, hustle, the lakers will beat your punk ass down, dallas! and jason terry just proved that he is more of a thug than a worthy recipient for the 6th man award, LO is hands down the favorite for the award. the nba better suspend this thug terry at least two games, and fire these refs for ejecting blake, who was only defending himself.

Terry had a chance for sixth man, he just lost it.

Blake, showing his tough character!

Lamar, three point fiend.

(Stern) NBA should fire these refs for rejecting Blake.....

They are all jealous of US simply because we are the best of the best.... this is what we do best PLAYOFF TIME MODE BABY!!!

We are the BEST! We are the Los Angeles Lakers!

Dude....Lake Show looked GOOD tonight. LO is a serious contender for six man, I stand corrected. They appeared to be having a PARTY on the court, and Dallas played the STRIPPERS. Getting that BUTT slapped all night, I believe Ron Ron was getting a Lap DANCE. Just One Man's Opinion.

Cap's Goggles (83-79) - Dude ... layin down the LAW.

Mavaricks got stung by Killer B(ee)'s tonight....

The RSP has worked wonders for the Lakers since he came on board.

16-1

never underestimate the power of the RSP

Peace,

Great observation. Not only did he play the most minutes....but also had ZERO fouls. The young manchild is growing up before our eyes. Sit back and enjoy. The best is yet to come!

RSP Rocks!

I Feel Full!

By tomorrow's night, the Lakers could be in driver's seat to earn #1 seed if they could get by Utah. SA will play back to back games AT Houston tomorrow. With LA win and SA lose, the Lakers are only 1 game back in lost column, and they play at LA one more time.

Observations from Staples Center:

1) Andrew Bynum made Tyson Chandler look like a cheap imitation of the 2007 Erick Dampier. If AB continues to play like this, well uh, er, ... oh my!!!

2) In the Sixth Man of the Year Award contest, I have to give the slight edge to Jason Terry. I kid! LO said enough is enough and it's time for ME to win a freakin' individual award for a change. Congrats, LO. You sealed that deal tonight.

3) Nobody messes with us ESPECIALLY in our house! We have gone from being a "soft" team to the Meanest SOBs in the NBA. First Fish picks on Chris Kaman and now tonight's melee. I love it!!

4) Ron Artest provided the funniest moment of the season when he locked up Peja and in one motion put the ball back in the basket. The refs suck. Peja is utterly incapable of playing any defense whatsoever and Ron-Ron pulls that crap EVERY single game. Can you be believe those idiots in the stripes haven't caught on to him yet? I laughed my butt off!!

5) Funnest game of the season. Hands down.

NEXT!!

Jason Terry sits down when he pisses. That coach shouldn't have got involved. Barnes was already headed to the bench. Dallas wants no part of LA in the playoffs.

LRob

The RSP is not happy that Drew had 0 fouls. That's usually a Gasol type stat implying non-aggressive.
The RSP would prefer a minimum of 4 fouls a game for Drew and at least 3 for Gasol.

Yeah I couldn't believe the refs fell for that move by Artest either. Terrible call.

All the pushing and shoving was much ado about nothing. I can understand the refs tossing guys to keep it from escalating, but really I've seen tougher altercations than that with 6th graders.

I can't wait til the playoffs.

Aloha,

Absolutely my favorite game of the year!

I am pretty sure that Blake and Barnes will get suspended. If shannon is suspended as well, Laker Tom will finally get to see lamar play some serious minutes at the point.

MH

@GDUB - Hendrix & Buddy Miles at the Filmore was definitely a classic performance. Bill Graham, the promoter of that show, said in his autobiography it was “the most brilliant, emotional display of virtuosic electric guitar playing I have ever heard.”

@ms - strong game day selections with Queen & Monie...and NIN...get ready for Sunday!

Aloha Micheal H - I think Barnes is the only Laker that warrants a suspension, but we shall see.

Count me as a Laker fan who does NOT want the team to catch San Antonio. Tonight's two games made one thing perfectly clear: the biggest threat to the Lakers in the West is neither Dallas or San Antonio. It is Oklahoma City, and finishing #1 would mean facing the Thunder in the 2nd round rather than the conference finals. Playing the Mavs in the 2nd round is the far easier path. OKC will beat the Spurs in the 2nd round. No doubt about that. The Mavs are as soft as the Suns.

Aloha LRob,

I think you are right but you just can't tell anymore. The league office seems to really over react these days. The one saving grace for steve was that i didn't see him push terry. He just got in his face. That could save him.

MH

LRob, I expect Barnes to get 2 games since, at the time he pushed Jason Cherry, he made contact with the ref and then he threw the Dallas Assistant Coach off him. Add to that the fact that he didn't leave the court in a timely manner, then, at a minimum, 2 games.

Jason Cherry should get 2 games at a minimum too. He didn't leave the court either.

I expect Blake and Brown to get fined and Haywood's tech will get rescinded.

Fact is, Dirk No-Blitzkrieg should've been called 4 a flagrant one when he pushed Kobe in the back on his dunk attempt. He didn't play the ball and pushed him while he was in the air. Refs wouldn't call it since he already got a tech in the 1st half and would've been ejected.

KOBE BEAN BRYANT IS "THE LOGO OF PROFESSIONALISM!"

LAMAR ODOM IS "THE SWISS ARMY KNIFE!"

Tri,

Very funky Brecker Bros...like Kobe's and 1 on JKidd or Drew's dunk on Dirk.

I think you're spot on with the suspension tally. Although I don't why coach Stolls was holding Barnes. At that point he was walking to the Lakers bench.

I agree Dirk should've got a flagrant and ejection for the foul on Kobe. You just can't push someone in the back when they're in the air. It's uncalled for and could seriously injure him if he comes down awkwardly.

i don't think anyone should've been ejected, nor do i think that suspensions for anyone are warranted.

i would like to see the rules enforced reasonably equally, though. if Andrew deserved a two game suspension, then so do Terry and Nowitski and Barnes unfortunately, should get a game. i don't think any suspensions would improve the game. no one is hurt and everyone should move on.

would would be the chance that Joey Crawford would be involved in a game like this?

oh yeah, and Cardinal goes down with suspensions too, right?

like i said, no suspensions needed.

oh yeah, Shannon too.

what the heck, we don't need any gaurds anyway.

Can't imagine what would happen if there was a scuffle where Artest, Barnes, Bynum, Odom and Kobe are on the basketball floor at the same time. Me thinks that the opposing team clears the bench; straight to their locker room. LOL

hahaha Im just laughing about this so called fans thats worried about the Thunder, common were the Lakers the best team in the world and we fear no one and will demolish all teams in the playoffs.Go Kobe the best player in the world.Three peat will be much easy if all players are healthy...

Cheklist-
Spurs- got man handled by Bynum. Yeah the Spurs have the best record in the NBA, but the Lakers showed them that they are the best team in the NBA.
Mavericks- they got punked around. They can blame Jason Terry for calling out the Lakers feistiness.
OKC Thunder- They are next, the Lakers need to send a message to them as well. Specially since all of a sudden Shrek Perkins ; I mean Kendrick Perkins; has toughen them up with his physicality, supposedly.
Portland- If the Lakers play them in the 1st round, they could potentially wear the Lakers out more than the Thunder did a year ago. The Blazers could do what the Thunder can't; win at the Staples Center.

I know a few posters have mentioned it, but didn't Jason Terry state that the Mavericks weren't worried about the Lakers but instead were focused on the Spurs? In a way J Terry was right, the Mavericks along with him shouldn't be worried, they should be scared of the Lakers.

I know JTerry has been through some difficult times of late, but wouldn't that teach you to be more humble? Why does he need to run his mouth so much? The only thing he has going for him is that he won 6th man of the year, a couple of years ago. Other than that, he hasn't done anything, well except run his mouth.

Stay at 2, LA. Let the Spurs have OKC. I'll take Dallas in Round 2 instead of OKC, every time.

Lamar!!!!!

Pau!!!!!!

Drew!!!!!!!!!!

Kobe!!!!!!!!

I expected a good game. I thought it would be closer, but the Lakers are just too good. The B's shot like crap, but played excellent D and the way Lamar was playing it just didn't matter.

OKC and Portland may be tough in the playoffs. I am not worried about Dallas or SA. We have their number big time.

If Drew keeps up this level of play, there is no one out there to even give us a challenge.

Lakers will crush the thunder in any series as long as all players are healthy.Thunder should be the one afraid of us thats why they added the overrated perkins on their team but it wont be enough. No team can beat us in a 7 game series as long as were all healthy. You can take it to the bank.

Not too big of a mavs fan, but I think its pretty immature to point the finger to only the mavs, what business did matt barnes have getting in the middle of it all?

Everything about the Lakers is geared toward winning playoff games. It's what they do.
