Poll Question: Should the Lakers make a trade?

I already shared my take on why the Lakers should just stay put. Now I want to hear yours. The Lakers have approximately 30 minutes before the trade deadline passes, so the ball is in your court. Say you're Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. Do you make a deal or decide it's better off to work with what you have?

Vote in the poll and explain in the comments section below

Portland missed one wide open shot after another in the 4th quarter down the stretch. The Lakers defense was burned over and over last night. So other than Kobe going one on one and hitting some great shots. I wouldn't be too excited about this one. This was a Portland CHOKE job !!! They weren't even close to full strength with Brandon Roy back for his first game and looking very rusty, Marcus Camby out and Oden out for season. But for as bad as the Lakers are this season of course anything looks good !!!!

WE RIDE WITH WHAT GOT US HERE AMIGOS – BANDWAGON
*_______________________________________________________________________*
(01) DON’T BLAME DEL HARRIS – OWNER - No trade should be made! To boot is moot! No Melo in yellow! How now brown cow, wow, no Pau? No way!
(02) CORNERJ – CO/OWNER - Bottom line...I say we stay the course and go with the team that got us two rings. We're the champs until someone knocks us off in the playoffs. Nobody's done that yet, and I'm betting nobody will.
(03) JOVBATZ44 – CO/OWNER - I personally have to disagree in trading Pau & Co. for Melo & Co. Pau has proven to be tough when being called for to be tough. It's just that, IMO, sometimes he reverts back to being finesse(which is actually his style of play). A style he grew up playing. I love this current Lakers line-up. No need to retool.
(04) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL – DRIVER - I like all the trade talk, but I am totally waffling. Wasn't it mitchy who made the Pau trade in mid-season with Phil Jackson and we went to the finals??? We weren't expected to go anywhere. Now we are talking about a trade and folks are saying it will disrupt the team's bid for a three-peat? I am so confused or I have had too much tequila this season and have very poor short term memory issues.....
(05) ROCKY – CO/DRIVER - This team has proven that it can win a championship. Let's ride this out and let the Lakers work their magic. Winning a championship never has and never will be easy. There will be bumps along the road.
(06) LROB – RIDING SHOTGUN - Pau is what he is. All of us would like him to play tougher, but his skill set is good enough to get the job done. You don’t have to physically manhandle people or push them around to get the job done. Basketball is still first and foremost a game of skill. Pau has skills that aren’t easily duplicated.
(07) JUSTA(formerly JustaLakerFan) - I think the Lakers are better served by playing this hand out. Just need to inject some energy and they have that on the bench in EB and DC.
Next wait for unrestricted FA's to hit the market at end of season so you don't give up core players but add better players to team.
(08) MAMBA24 – let’s ride with what bought us here!!!
(09) MARCO64 - The Logic isn't so hard to understand, sometimes.. From Gasol's arrival, Lakers went three times to the Finals, and they won twice. We all know the situation before..This year, Gasol isn't playing as well as in the past, and the Lakers often struggle. Logic says: Gasol is fundamental for the Lakers. Logical result: try to recover Gasol to his level. Illogical result: trade Gasol. So easy..
(10) EASTCOASTJESSIE - I'd like to know what the big deal is with Mitch's comment? Any good GM/Owner/Coach has to be willing to pull the trigger at any time if it means keeping a team competitive. Do I think the Lakers need a change, not really...not yet anyway? But will this get into some of the player's heads who have been struggling/slacking? Absolutely, and that's a good thing. Some players need that extra motivation to step it up
(11) JOHNNYV - I haven't given up on Pau (I am convinced his problems are Girlfriend related). I am also pretty confident that Artest will turn it up two notches in the playoffs. He had the same problems last year and we chalked it up to learning the triangle and his feet.
(12) GANAPIA - Unless there is a major issue (beyond our knowledge) we should all be patient and the results will pay off.

I'm not entirely against picking up a rental like, say... Jason Kapono? Use some of Sasha's leftover money and see what happens. Former Bruin, decent shooter, helps spread the offense for the second unit. Who knows?

I thought there are TV replays from the Ref side on questionable calls during half time or end of quarters, how come the call on Rudy Fernandez was allowed to go through. It was clear that his foot was stepping on the scorer table outside of the court when the ball was thrown back They should have removed the three points score which further eliminated the need for OT. Well, we won the game in the end but still Lakers management should raise that issue to NBA. Rules should be consistent to all teams and throughout the game.

Nice win because of the last quarter & OT heroics, there are still flaws to be corrected: 1) Our players are not moving around without the ball when Kobe goes to the hoop, while Blazers like Rudy F. or Batum as well as Aldridge are going through screens, moving w/o the ball; 2) Inconsistencies that result to numerous turnovers LO and Shannon made lots of mistakes, though they excelled in some areas. We still need consistency and presence of mind not just standing around when Kobe makes the move; 3) Bynum is too anxious to dunk losing his timing, he has to create space by passing the ball first then make some move towards the basket. He has to make short jump shots or hook shots on pivot moves in the post; 4) Lakers have not solved the perimeter D, those long tong sally were the ones killing the Lakers. Well, they won in the end because they went for tight D in the extra 5 minutes.

Theo is already out of the season, lakers have trade exemption and have only 13 after releasing Ratliff, so why not get a good PG. Is JCritt healthy?

I guess we'll never see the "real" winners of our starters versus their starters after all...

Roy is done for good. He's never going to be the player he was going to be before the injuries. On another note, why do other teams keep complaining about injured players? Lakers have Barnes out and a gimpy Bynum, but no one points to that as reason for losses. Why is that?--Because winners don't cry over stupid excuses.

Wow, Celtics dump Perk to OKC.......

If theo has indeed been released....why not troy murphy??

I agree with S Perkins. If the Portland game represents the Lakers version of stepping up for the home stretch - they will finish a 4 or 5 seed and may not get past first round.

Portland just missed open shots - which had little to do with Lakers. Where was the Laker defense in crunch time? And those shots by Kobe - great shots, but is that what the Lakers want in crunch time - Kobe forcing highly contested shots?

Not sure what really ails Lakers - Fish and Artest (although not to complain about Artest's game last night) on downward slope of careers, complacency as 2 x champions, Bynum's slow or never recovery (he was terrible last night), lack of speed, lack of toughness - but whatever it is, short of significant trade - I don't see it curing itself and I think we have to live with it, which translates to thinking about next year.

Play Ebanks - start Lamar at point - make a trade, do something, shake it up .....cause it is currently not working and the Lakers have become painful to watch.

Wow...Green and Kristic for Perkins...that trade may actually help both teams. OKC didn't want to pay Green that big $. It'll be interesting to see if the C's try to resign him. Anyway OKC just got tougher...but lost some of that athleticism...while Boston's no longer the bully on the block but they're definitely more skilled now.

I guess that's why they call them "Oakies"....who in their right mind would trade Jeff Green and Kristic for Perkins, who is coming offf a major injury??

Laker fan-

Looks like youll never beat our "starting 5!"

So true so I guess "we'll" just have to settle for the 83-79. Was that the correct score? Doesn't matter, we got the bling.

Coloradol loves our World Champion Lakers!

Celtic trade (size for speed) tells me the Celtics are worried about Miami and not the Lakers.

I was shocked to see Celtics make a trade of this level

dkwsfo

Where was freaking Mitch the Snake "Do Nothing" Kupchak this week? The Lakers still don't have a backup center.

And note to you 131 - 92, the Celtics will never beat the Lakers "starting 4", you guys got whipped 92 -86 at your own floor, stop bringing up old history, it's all about what have you done for me lately, you M-F moron.

THANKS 131. Hilarious. Priceless.

Hey, I hope we see other in June. East looks tough and the West has a veteran Spurs team with the league's best record. A lot of work to do if we are going to enjoy another green/purple battle this year!

@ 131-92,

Oh, lawdy! You did not beat our "starting 5" in 2008, either! Ariza was also one-legging it off the bench.

Please, stop the insanity!

"...The Thunder also will receive guard Nate Robinson in the trade." - Yahoo Sports, A-Wojo

Looks like Donkey will need to find a new Shrek.

If Nate jumps on Durant's back after a nice play, I think he should be put down. That is all.

OKC just picked up two other guys from another trade --- well, the Lakers better watch out!

I see there are some idiots complaining about how the Lakers won. That's the NBA. Games can be decided by one shot. Teams miss shots, teams make shots. It was a very good game for the Lakers. Enjoy it!

I think that was still a good win last night inspite of you'll saying that portland miss a lot of open shots.Over thelast few yrs lakers went up there and found ways to loose to portland no matter how bad their record was. And last night they could have very easily loose that game as wel.A a bounce or two here and a Kobe miss on that game tying shoot ,and we could have very easily roll off the rim,but it didn't.They still had to fight hard for that win.

Happy to see ron ron have a good game ,which shows if we can get some scoring from that small forward spot it can go along way in helping out with some of our scoring issues.

I don't think the lakers should make any trades either stand pat.But i am in favor of them picking up a player or so that may be let go with a buy out or something like that can bring some extra fire power or bodys in there.

Edwin they don't review every play. 3 point shots are reviewed. And then plays in the last minute I think.

Folks not to be mean. But you spell Lose. L O S E.

Not L O O S E.

>>> If theo has indeed been released....why not troy murphy??

If he gets bought out maybe. But I think he'd prefer to go to Miami where they have a weak weak weak front court and could use the extra size.

But his 3-point shooting and rebounding off the bench would be very welcome.

>>>Edwin they don't review every play. 3 point shots are reviewed. And then
>>>plays in the last minute I think.

Yep, but there are only specific things they CAN review.

For example, which team gets an out of bounds ball.

Or whether a shot was released before the end of a shot clock/quarter.

And if they're reviewing whether a shot made it in before the quarter and notice that the person who passed the shooter the ball was standing out of bounds, they can't call that - all they can do is say whether the shot was good or not.

It's actually pretty lame. The review process should be extended to at least include that if they're reviewing one thing and see something obvious (like out of bounds) immediately before the thing they're reviewing, it could be called.

Or else coaches should have one or two challenges per game like they do in football. Because frequently the reason a player or coach is complaining is because the refs genuinely made a mistake (like the Fernandez on table call). If they had a challenge, Phil could have called it right then and the refs would have reviewed it and taken back the 3 points and given the Lakers the ball.

So if the C's lose this year, is it going to be because they don't have their full "starting five" or "new players having to get used to the regular starting four"? lol. Will say, given how much they whine about not having Perk, to turn around a trade him is a shock. Shame because they just went less tough. Kristic will be ate alive by Gasol/Bynum. If this was to prepare for us, bad move. Unless giving an already devastating Thunder team more size and shooting is the plan to knock us out before we get to them then I say, nice try. It can't be to beat the Heat as someone mentioned because they've routinely beat the Heat all season long.

As far as trades go, I'm glad Mitch stood pat. With what we got, we can still get it done. Matt coming back will be a big difference that ppl are forgetting about. I wouldn't be adverse to picking someone up, preferably a backup big since we're thin there to give our bigs some rest, with some of that exception money we have.

Honestly, with all the trades, this is actually good for us. All the power shifted back east. Good. Let them slug it out. Now all we have to worry about is the Spurs. No Nuggets now and no Utah to worry about.

All power shifted east? The power that left was from bad teams and Derron will be back in the west next year... Hopefully fish will opt out and any deal done will send walton packing for a young athletic small forward.

Mark my words.. D. Howard will be a laker next year. Bynum for Howard....

I personally think the Lakers shouldn't make a trade because they already have Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. I feel that if they try to add another "dominant player", the Lakers are going to ruin their rotation. The Lakers are doing fine and are ranked third in the western conference. If the Lakers just work on defending the offense of the other top teams, they should be fine in the playoffs.

they should trade bynum and odom for howard and renas, and trade dfish and matt barnes for chris paul!
