Lakers look to regroup against lowly Cleveland
The Lakers took Tuesday off, the practice that had been scheduled just a voluntary workout.
There was no media availability, so there was no chance to see who showed up for the session.
But after back-to-back drubbings, it probably wouldn't have been a bad idea for the entire team to at least get a workout in -- even for a tired team that just played four games in five nights.
The Lakers lost to the Orlando Magic on Sunday by 14 points and then were road kill for the Charlotte Bobcats Monday night during a 20-point beat-down.
The Lakers will finish their seven-game, 13-day trip Wednesday against the 9-46 Cleveland Cavaliers, the team with the worst record in the NBA.
"We're not playing well," Pau Gasol said after Monday night's loss. "We've got to get off this way of playing right now that we just did against Orlando and here tonight [in Charlotte]. We have to finish off the trip well in Cleveland."
-- Broderick Turner in Cleveland

the business of business is business. whats the problem, the lakers are a business first. so the idea of a network will be very appealing to lakernation not already having access to all games

The Bulls were one call away from the NBA Finals with MJ playing baseball - so no, they didn't make it 7 straight times. Still, point duly noted.
The last time management rode the horse too long into a 4th straight year, they didn't make the finals and had to bring in Malone & Payton - Malone was good, Payton not so much
What will happen this time management rides the same squad 4 seasons straight?
Let's just all hope for our sake that the team finds a way to turn it around the next twenty something games.

I guess it’s about time to give up this “underachieving” Laker team. There’s no way they can three-peat based on their performance this year. There’s no passion, pride, fire, intensity, name it that will characterized a ”true champion” and this team don’t have it. After going back to back champion they lost their “hunger” to win again. With the present line-up there’s no way they can win the championship without the HA (home court advantage). Instead of entertainment majority of the fans (except for those die-hard) gets stress-out watching their games. I, for one will not watch all their remaining games anymore, not unless I hear that there was a trade done by the Lakers management. There’s no way this present line-up will beat the Spurs or even the Mavericks in the play-offs.

@edwin... How in Lords good name did u get a ROCTD? I thought us non lakerfan trolls were not worthy!!
@Lrob.. In regards to checking the final score.. sorry but sometimes tough times call for tough consequences n hard decision need to be made!. Lol
@art... Agree. I don't mind losing.. Its the manner of which they lose.. I can accept losing due to a bad shooting night maybe even outcoaching but losing due to lack of effort is absolutely inexcusable.. There's nothing to defend that.. And there's no question this team has taken on the laissez faire attitude of the coach.. Everyone is on their own!
@truth... Good analogies on laker players to doing house chores... Personally I would prefer doing any menial house choir over watching dfish play..I'll happily do the laundry.. heck I'll even scrub toilets.
@sean... Nice post on ron ron.. defense is a skill that often gets easily overlooked n until we face okc w/ durant, miami w/ lecrab or boston w/ wheelchair paula (all high likely scenarios) he will continue to be underappreciated.. What a shame!!

i think this is the time to not act sooo spoiled and have an attitude that this championship is a given. it's certainly not a time to be thrilled, but even with everything, the lakers are in the hunt along with about 5 or 6 other teams. i have thought for a long time that there has been no sense of hunger, but to be honest, how do you do that given their success of the last couple of years. so let pj earn his money . i hope that kobe gets some down time. he is playing older than he is and willfulness is not a virtue. so 2nd half of the season, with aq little bit of humility and respect, let the second act begin

I guess you're one die-hard, unrealistic fan who don't care if Lakers play the way they're playing right now, believing they can turn the switch on anytime they want. Be real and open your eyes and mind. This present team don't have it to be the champion again.
I hope you're not Bill Gates because the world's richest man don't think like you....he's a smart, logical, witty person that's he became the richest man alive.

Cleveland got a taste of a win against the other L.A. team and Coach Scott is a proven winner. He smells blood and sees weakness in the Lakers team. I'm telling you right now: Cleveland is going to give the Lakers all they can handle on their home court. Unfortunately for L.A., all of the pressure - assuming there is any - is on the Lakers to finish this "roadie" with a win. Cleveland will play hard and are going to eke out a victory on their floor. Coach Scott is no slouch and his team will force the Lakers to shoot from outside of the paint. Get ready and thank goodness it's only a regular season game. The Lakers will have to return to their winning ways soon after the All Star Break so I'm not expecting too much from them before then. Just stay competitive in the conference and begin making your move.

">>>REMEMBER, you have to go back to 1966 before you find a team with as
>>>many consecutive Finals' appearances as these Lakers.
Not true.
The Lakers went to the finals in 1982 (beat the 76ers), 1983 (lost to the 76ers), 1984 (lost to the Celtics), and 1985 (beat the Celtics)"
Those Lakers made 4 consecutive Finals' trips too, good pick up. But the game has changed a lot in the past 30 years graybeard. These Lakers are on to something not see in the modern-era. The win in Boston proved that this team can win on the road. And if healthy, this team will win the Championship again regardless of seeding.

'NBA basketball is supposed to be Entertainment !!! Nothing entertaining about watching the Lakers play...'
Posted by: S Perkins | February 14, 2011 at 10:07 PM
Oh, I beg to differ...
I found every minute of it entertaining,
especially against the Bobcats...
and even more so here in Chiang Mai...
as did all of my fellow expats
who were watching the game with me.
(Games usually come on between 7 and 10 a.m. here,
so, over a few 'early morning bowls, beers, eggs, pancakes, and shots,
they would make comments during the game).
Soulful Global brothers and sisters:
Is that Kobe Bryant?
Are these guys the Los Angeles Lakers?
Nahhh! They can’t be! Really???
I thought the Lakers were supposed to be a good team...
didn't they win a championship or something last year?
These guys are total rubbish!
(Naturally, I felt called upon to dutifully respond with complete honesty)
Sonnybelfast:
Let me tell you friends...
in all honesty,
the American National Basketball League bends-over-backwards
for the Los Angeles Lakers
(most Americans appropriately call them the Fakers, hee hee)
and is always very creative in finding ways
to get them the top rated 'free-agents',
the officiating they need to get them into championship games,
and countless other advantages...
but, even with all of that...
they don't always win the championship.
Isn’t that amazing?”
Soulful Global brothers and sisters:
Wow, mate. Hard to believe, but it does make total sense.
I suppose you can’t win it every year...even when you cheat.
But, how then can an NBA Championship mean anything special
when the ‘Fakers’ (hee, hee) win it?
Sonnybelfast:
Well, that’s just the point.
It doesn’t mean anything to anyone, except Faker (hee, hee) fans.
They’re a special bunch (wink, wink).
Soul Global brothers and sisters:
(Uproarious laughter heard)
But what about American football?
Didn’t you guys just have a ‘Superbowl’
something like that?
Doesn’t Los Angeles have a football team?
Sonnybelfast:
Well...they do have a college team...
they are named after condums!!!
No, really, it’s true!
(Falling on the ground laughter)
They are cheaters too.
But, as far as having a real football team...
nope...not in Los Angeles...
The sport isn’t real popular there...
I think it’s a bit too rough for them.
Soul Global brothers and sisters:
Yea...we’ve heard about them.
But...back to basketball...
Are the Lakers really this bad?
Sonnybelfast:
Well...I don’t know.
You be the judge.
You’ve got eyes to see.
Soul Global brothers and sisters:
Man...they look old, tired, and slow.
They’ll be lucky to finish the year out
with no one getting hurt.
Sonnybelfast:
Uh huh...that’s what I’ve been saying for months.
Go Kings!
Go SF Giants!
Go Niners!

@Nuggets Country – All true points about Kobe’s determination and will. Very few, if any, can match him in that area. I wish Lamar and Pau had that Kobe-like dedication, but that’s not going to happen. Nevertheless, I do appreciate the level of competitiveness that they have displayed in contributing to three straight final appearances.
@Sean – good point about Ron’s primary responsibility. His job last night was to shut down Capt Jack. Good job! Jack was 3-10 with 3 turnovers. If his teammates were as effective on defense as Ron was we wouldn’t be talking about an L today.
Posted by: LRob | February 15, 2011 at 03:28 PM
If I am another team, I would double-team our “bigs” and force us to shoot outside where we hit a dismally low percentage of shots... Cleveland is a good outside shooting team and we have a tendency not to cover three point shots. Also, they would want to run-and-gun on any misses/turnovers - try to wear us out at the end of a long trip….
A loss against Cleveland would have to shake things up... How much can Mitch take? Maybe someone getting their ass traded would make everyone else play hard from here out?
I hope we at least play with some fire. Where is the pride? We have got our ass kicked for two games running. It is time to return the favor.
Go Lakers!

If I hear another "excuse" about the Lakers being lazy, unmotivated and complacent due to having playing so many games the last couple of years I am going to PUKE.
Like someone already said. That wasn't the problem with Showtime Lakers who under Pat Riley played hard with blood, sweat and tear every single game -even in practices. That also wasn't the problem with the Bulls which even in the year Jordan temporarily retired still went to the Final meaning what, seven (7) straight Finals?
Excuse... excuse... excuse...

Psycorp,
I get tired of people acting like Magic Lakers didn't also struggle mightily and have games where us fans were up in arms regarding their effort and productivity. A few weeks ago Magic said something similar to the quote you posted. I respect Magic's showtime Laker accomplishments as much as anybody and probably more than most, but I also remember a certain season that they gave me much consternation. Time can sometime make us romanticize the past, but let's not re-write history......
Nets 118-113 OT
Boston 110-96
Wash 115-110
Bulls 116-103
Utah 101-87
Suns 111-96
Sonics 116-106
Kings 106-97
Yep in the 89 season, coming off a repeat like these Lakers, they lost 8...count em...8 straight road games including to three of the worst teams in the league (Nets, Bullets, Kings). The last 5 loses were by an average of 12 points.

Sup everyone - crazy busy day today with no time to post...
Looks like I didn't miss too much. The GHF's talking about wait until the PO's and the GHE's wanting to shake things up with a trade. Sound about right? LOL!
Yeah - we got shellacked 2 games running, and it's really irritating. But come on people - the Lakers have always given us a roller-coaster season ride. Lately, it's been culminating in parades on Figueroa, right? So chillax. It's just a game. Right? Don't get your panties in a bunch LOL - or your P&G thongs for that matter! This team AS YOU KNOW is a team constructed - no I say engineered - for the playoffs. They have the talent and the know-how to get it done. Don't get so worked up.....

Pull the trigger on what? Trading Drew for Melo? Are you crazy? Drew's size, strength and skill is a major factor for what gives the Lakers a clear advantage over every other team in the league (combined with Pau and LO).
If you do this trade, the Lakers MIGHT gain offensively. Melo would still have to learn how to play in our system, and there is only one ball on the court at a time LOL! However, the defensive end is where we would suffer. Melo does NOT play defense with any consistency or regularity.
I have a lot of other comments about Melo and why he wouldn't be a good fit for this team, but I'm hoping I've made my point.
Still, many - if not most - will either dismiss these things or scroll on by altogether. And that's fine. If the Lakers Front Office makes this trade, I'll be the first one to eat crow publicly. BUT - if they don't, can I ask the same of you?

Yeah Kobe is no MJ, because he is Kobe Bean Bryant- the most dominant player in the game today who is widely considered by the so called experts to be in the conversation regarding the best ever.

Even in the unlikely event that the Lakers take a lead in the game,
my advice to Cleveland is to continue pushing the ball, without relent.
Stay in-your-face aggressive and know that nothing is a given.
The old Troupe from Hollyweird will wear down...believe it.
They simply lack the necessary 'man-power' to sustain 48-minutes.

So many ignorant trolls on the blog. People have a short memory, last year we finished the regular season terribly (turribal as Barkley would say) and flipped the switch once the real season began.
why does the media and the Chowds cry about having injuries when they lose to LA on their home floor, but nobody mentions the loss of Barnes and Ratliff? Boston had their so- called undefeated starting five but choked at the end. They even had Shrek & donkey and still lost.
Until (2014?) the champs are eliminated they're still the champs. As Rudy T would say, don't underestimate the heart of a champion!!

What does it take for a team to move onto the playoffs and win a chanpionship with such performance during the regular season??? If everyone could remember on 2000-2001 season, after having a so so performance in the regular season, almost a mediocre one indeed, the Lakers walloped every team from the 1st round of the playoff to the western conference finals til that single lost to Philly in game 1 of the finals. Nevertheless, after which they went on for 4 straight wins (4-1) to capture their 2nd NBA title. Almost a perfect performance out there for them. Question is do they have that same character...same passion and intensity, this time around???

Looking at the state of the Lakers current team and things look pretty dismal. This is just my take on things but i beleive the Lakers are long shots at best to win a championship this year. The Lakers best player (Kobe) is not having a great year if you go by statistics. He is still averaging 24 ppg but is achieving this via volume shooting. He is also turning the ball over at an alarming rate which usually leads to easy fast break baskets for the opposition. Charles Barkley makes no bones about the fact that Kobe has slowed down considerably and i agree. The Lakers currently have an opportunity to restock but it will take a bold move. The boldest move they should currently make is to immediately trade Kobe to Denver for Carmelo Anthony. Kobe will be 33 years old in August while Carmelo is 24. Put Carmelo in a Lakers uniform with the current group minus Kobe and the Lakers will be championship contenders for at least the next five years. Like i said, i am a long time Lakers fan and this is just my take on the Lakers current situation.

Lakers can't seam to get motivated to play. I kinda feel that this is Phil Jacksons fault, he never plays E Banks or Character. Hell it would give the other teams some different looks, and they definitely can't do any worse, 20 turn overs tonight, against Cleveland, Cleveland! Come on man

I can't help but think if Sasha and Farmore were back this crap wouldn't be happening, and Adam Morrison would still be on the bench, waiting for his 3rd ring, I kinda felt like he was our rabbits foot, they sure can hit a 3 pointer better than Shannon Brown. Sure Ron Ron didn't do squat, but he might still be in hibernation deep sleep, waiting to be woken up for the for the play-offs like count Dracula or something. Well we will definitely see better game from Kobe the second half of the season. Some times players just have a bad half of the season, I don't think Kobe's getting old, He could just be in a rut for the moment, he may have to adjust his game like Tiger woods adjusts his swing.
