Kobe Bryant misses Lakers shootaround, will be a game-time decision

Kobe_400 Lakers guard Kobe Bryant missed Monday's shootaround with "aches and chills," a team spokesman said.

The spokesman said Bryant will be a "game-time" decision for Monday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The Lakers have lost seven of their last nine games against the Bobcats.

It was such a telling stat that Bryant said on Sunday, after the Lakers lost to Orlando, that L.A. had not won in Charlotte in five years. The fact is that the Lakers last won in Charlotte, N.C., on Feb.11, 2008 -- a 106-97 victory. But the Lakers have lost four of their last five games in Charlotte.

Bryant didn't have one of his better shooting games against the Magic, making just eight of 18 shots, finishing with 17 points. But he appeared fine after the game.

:-( ... Kobe having the flu AGAIN! Seems like he gets it every year unfailingly. Get well Soon Mamba!!

Thanks

Kobe had a bad game for being the best basketball player in the history of the game. But he is human and if he's under the weather, the rest of the team has to step up and play their game, not his game. Tonight is a great night to test their resolve and get us a win to stem the long losing steak in Charlotte.

CornerJ - thanks for the font LOL! I like it :)

sean - that vid is an instant classic for sure! I haven't laughed like that in awhile!

LRob - thanks for the well wishes. I'm getting there slowly but surely.

Jamie Sweet - man. I was hoping things would be going better now for you... Well - I love your attitude. Be positive - no matter what happens. And we got your back if you need us!

Mamba24/LLT/other sickies - feel better soon..... :)

888 - you'd better be around later....

Have a great day peeps!

GO LAKERS!!

Looks like the Black Mamba has what the rest of the Mamba clan has....wow!

@Jamie Sweet - Best wishes on everything!

He is not sick he was hit with a Paternity suit at the Orlando game his wife probably on her tiger' ex wife stuff. Ballers can't keep it in there pants.

Reader Comment of the Day: "Why do the lakers have to come around during the play-off every year. Do they prepare at all for 82 game season. I keep hearing the same old tune each year over an over wait until the play-offs. Pro players should be ready for all the games, not meaning that they will win them all. Our team only play's hard maybe 30 games a year." -- Anthony Scott

Anthony Scott, congrats on RCOTD.

The same can be said about every team in the league. If teams brought the same intensity every night like they do when they play the Lakers, they would add 20 W's to the win colomn.

Kobe is not sick, he has problem because he was benched with around 4 minutes to go with Magic. If this problems not solved then we are going to see our team to detoriate!

@ChicNstu- I see we have a System of a Down fan.

sean,

I hadn't heard the Chic 'n' stu track till after i chose my handle. But yeah.. i'm down with the sickness..lol

Lisa and Lakerfanfor[strange space here]ever -- My guess is that you're one and the same. You both have some grammatical issues to iron out, but we'll leave it at that.

Jamie Sweet -- Damn, man. I hope things turn around for you soon. You've got a great attitude, and that usually helps.

PSP -- These guys are constantly shaking hands/high-fiving THOUSANDS of human beings. Professional athletes are at the mercy of many, many germs. My guess? Kobe will drop 41 on the Bobcats tonight, and he'll get an IV drip at half-time.

Go Lake Show!

This is kind of a dated article, but I wrote it to summarize the state of the Lakers after the first couple games on their road trip, particularly the mindset of Pau Gasol.

@OUTLAW... I don’t think it’s the thousands of fans they touch which is the problem. The problem is children. I am sure Kobe caught this from his kids. I know for a fact that I have been struggling with a chest and head cold for several weeks. Every time I get better, one of my grandkids sneezes or coughs all over me and it starts up again. They are like infested. LOL. Because of this flu, I only had 5 kids at practice and we had to have a coaches versus players game, which the coaches held on to barely win after losing a big lead because we were beat. LOL.

I thought Mark Stein's line about the Heat's inability to beat the Celts was funny:

"Worse yet: Cleveland has more W's against the Celts than Miami this season."

I'm not one to rage on Pau. There's ultimately a series of streamlines that have happened since he became a Laker. We've gone the distance every year since he's come to the Lakers. Not Wilt or Kareem or Duncan can boast about stuff like that. He's been consistent, given a bad stretch here or there, hamstring issues.

When Gm's heard about this trade. They were sick, literally sick. Even they couldn't believe it was possible. All signs pointed to Gasol going to Chicago. Hey, how would a Gasol/Noah Frontcourt do in the East, with Derrick Rose. I'm glad Pau plays on my team the Lakers.

When Pop heard about this, he had to ask his wife to bring him his BC Headache powder, he was so enraged and helpless. Even he saw the possibilities. Even if you've never coached Gasol, all 30 coaches are enamored with his play and if they had a chance, would swoop him out of L.A.

I'm glad Pau is a Laker, it was a dream trade to get him. Just like Fish, Kobe, I can't rage on Pau, he's one of the best and deserves all the adulation.

Now, excuse me, I think I'm going to buy a Pau Gasol Jersey.

kobe isn't sick and yes he got hit with them paternity after the magic's game...c'mon kobe u know better than that haven't you learned from the last time.

I can't remember all of the trade proposals right now since it was so long ago but it seems like every trade rumor between Chicago and Memphis for Pau had Noah going to Memphis. Getting Pau might have improved the Bulls record to the point where they would have missed out on Rose as well.

It may have been a blessing for them that they didn't get Pau. Funny how things work out.

Just an excuse (Bryant having a flu-like symptoms)just in case they lost to the Bobcats (as usual for the last 5 years) tonight. 4 wins and 2 losses (after tonight).

@LRob...

Thanks for the link to "Valentine Love" by Norman Connors and featuring Michael Henderson and Jean Carne.

Jean is one of my all time favorites...."Closer Than Close", "Was That All It Was"...a beautiful lady who is blessed with a tremendous talent.

iikes, looks like the blog has a lot of heavy-hitters on IR, now the Lakers are following suit with Kobe sick too.

Mamba, justa, Tom, Lew, Mark G & all - GET WELL SOON!

Laker J/yello: Isn't that the truth about MJ! He's so stubborn he's still trying to redeem Kwame, make his pick look good. I think that competitive streak he had as a player isn't as well suited to management/ownership...

yello, tell us how you REALLY think of MJ sometime, LOL. BTW, I'm right there with you because Kobe is always getting slammed, while MJ has always gotten glossed over. If MJ wasn't so popular he would have been run out of the sport for his gambling/mobster ties. Instead, he was thrown out -errrr- 'left to play minor league baseball' for a year then welcomed back with a red carpet treatment...

sean: That is one hilarious vid! Good points on Pau, too. I've been hard on my fellow Spaniard for a while now, but when he's good he makes the Laker frontcourt just about unbeatable. I just wish Pau could be a little more consistent, don't know what is up with him, but seems like something is. He started out the first few weeks on an MVP pace, but has been consistently inconsistent since them. Motivated/focused Pau playing a two-man game with Drew, L.O. coming off the bench - that's an unbeatable combo. He didn't show up in Orlando (granted, Dwight had something to do about that) but hopefully he can use the all-star break to get his stuff in order for the stretch run.

BTW, been reading your posts for the last few days, great points you make all around!

LEWSTRS: Mind if I borrow your font since I don't have one either? lol...

For those that couldn't read it:

AS ALWAYS - AND FOREVER - GO LAKERS!!!!!!

I am a hugh Lakers fan and hope they win tonight. The loss yesterday sucked, but life goes on.

I'll take a sick Kobe over almost any other healthy player. Kobe's played some of his best all-round games when he suffers from flu-like symptoms!

Still, if he doesn't play, I ain't mad at him LOL! 'Rest of team' will just need to step it up. They can do it.

Fans that knock Pau Gasol are the same ones that love Fisher. They have no clue about the game of basketball. Gasol is one of the top players in the NBA...Fisher one of the worst !!! Nuf said !!!

I'm not one who normally knock on Gasol. I actually appreciate his talent and service to the Lakers. I also believe he should be a Lakers.

That said, however I believe Pau still has a long way to reach his potential. The game last night against Orlando was fairly typical of Pau. He's too smart a basketball player to have defensive lapses that allowed Howard a couple of those alley-oop slams. On offense he could have been more aggressive as far as inviting contacts as supposed to trying to go around them.

Come to think of it Odom is similar. Both Lamar and Pau are blessed with great talents yet their lack of focus, intensity and aggression is what keeping these good players from being great. They could have been superstars instead of stars. They could have been voted in as All-Star every year instead of being on the fringe years after years.

@LAKERTRUTH.... I also thought that photo was ripe for a contest. I mean the looks on both Drew’s and Kobe’s faces were caught perfectly. Don’t have any idea what was going on but I loved the intrigue in their faces. Drew saying, “Man, I’m sitting right next to Kobe Bryant. Wow!” Or “Hey, Kobe, did you realize we tied for high point honors?” Or “I scored my number, how about you, Kobe?” Of course, I am sure there will some other interpretations. LOL.
