Kobe Bryant to play against Charlotte Bobcats

Kobe Bryant, who missed the Lakers' morning shootaround because of chills and aches, will play Monday night against the Charlotte Bobcats, a team representative said.

Bryant was seen walking into the locker room before the game with his workout gear on.

Bryant and the Lakers are playing their sixth game on their seven-game trip that concludes in Cleveland on Wednesday.

The Lakers are 4-1 on the trip, losing in Orlando on Sunday.

Bryant hasn't missed a game this season, averaging 25.4 points in 55 games.

I'm not one who normally knock on Gasol. I actually appreciate his talent and service to the Lakers. I also believe he should be a Lakers.

That said, however I believe Pau still has a long way to reach his potential. The game last night against Orlando was fairly typical of Pau. He's too smart a basketball player to have defensive lapses that allowed Howard a couple of those alley-oop slams. On offense he could have been more aggressive as far as inviting contacts as supposed to trying to go around them.

Come to think of it Odom is similar. Both Lamar and Pau are blessed with great talents yet their lack of focus, intensity and aggression is what keeping these good players from being great. They could have been superstars instead of stars. They could have been voted in as All-Star every year instead of being on the fringe years after years.

If lakers don't win this year I have already compiled a LIST of the first guys I will blame: (in that order)

1. Dfish.. No explanation necessary

2. Bynum*... Asterisk b/c will only apply if in case of injury

3. Kupchak... Yes I'm serious. Really if we put him under the microscop how good a job has he really done?? he was handed gasol on a silver platter by jerry west and if not for that how many good moves has he really made? His draft picks history have been atrocious every year (although phil should shoulder some of the blame this year) and the only other good moves have been artest (which I would credit kobe and was a complete lucky turn of events if not for david lee) and maybe trading brian cook for evans and shannon (who you could even argue was a throw in and not the guy he coveted).. Any thoughts??

4. pau gasol*... Asterisk again since decision contingent on which gasol we get in playoffs

5. Luke walton... His order in this list will hinge on how many minutes a game he gets in playoffs.. If anything more than 10+ then move him up to #1 next to dfish

Sorry but I have to disagree with MM. If LAL needed incentives they already had them at least two losses ago to Charlotte. Yet that did not motivate them enough to win. The LA Times article pointed out how upset Kobe then Jackson even Fisher was after those losses yet nothing changed...

Would be even tougher to win tonight's game against the Bobcats than in previous years:

1) They just play last night so they have plenty of "excuses" to be tired already.
2) They always took the Bobcats for granted in the past why would a leopard change its spot?
3) Their #1 motivator, Kobe is not feeling 100%. Would be hard pressed for him to be able to both bail them out AND motivate them at the same time.

All indication is that the LAL will mail tonight's game in. Desperately hoping that I will be proven wrong though...

If the Lakers win tonight I will go back to my hometown Calcutta, India for an extended vacation even if I don't have plan to go there this year. I know they will lose tonight that's why I made this bold dare.

Yellofever you're being too kind to Luke. His presence on the team alone should earn him enough char coal points.

It is because he's taking up a spot that could have been used by a minimally service-able player be it a journeyman or a third-string player.

Ever since Barnes went out the Lakers are realistically down to one and only one SF, that is Artest.

I have a random question: Do you think Celtic's fans are happy that their team beat the Heat, or not happy because they weren't able to use one of their excuses? Like PP was hurt so the Heat didn't actually beat the starting 5.

wow! so this is how laker fans think huh? if the lakers lose you compile a list of people to blame ahead of time. i guess back2back championships isn't good enough for you guys. this makes me hate lakers fans even more than i already do. u guys are sickening. go bobcats!

@Broderick... Hey, this is not news. It’s Kobe, dude. He never misses a game due to a little flu.

TOM

@bobcat... Thx for the comments but if ur a bobcat fan why would u care what us lakerfans think? R u sure ur not a lakerfan?? Hmmmm

@yellow - are u sure u are a lakerfan?

@bobcat - it's called high expectation. You know how it works. Just like a kid, if you set high expectation and demand it he's more likely to work hard and reach it.

OTH, I think it's perfectly fine that you set such a low standard for your team that you'll be happy (and the team will also) no matter how crummy or crappy their performance. If your team never feels the need to excel and win championship more power to you and their fans!

yellofever,

Now that's sure being proactive, lol.
Shouldn't Buss be on your list, the buck stops with him/them?
You have Artest as a plus, but since the list is for if they lose, he may play a key role in that.
Does dumping Sasha have a place on the list?

@Psycorp- i dont have high expectations for my team. it just amazes me that u guys dont even appreciate what u do have or what ur team has already done. instead u badmouth the players and the gm and u stand behind the guy who did it which means u think the same way. high expectations? there are better words than that.

@Art-Iamthewalrus - that makes 3 of u. are all lakers fans this way?

i also agree all lakers fans you really can't blame anyone but if i was gm for one week i would try something at the point gaurd like something for nothing a superstar like tracy mcgrady then jamaal crawford,(atl.didnt resign) chancey billups, rip hamilton there like of pieces they could try without giving up your 5 starters or 4 rotation i think mitch should look in this

are all lakers fans this way?

====================

Just messin' around bobcat, don't take every thing that's written here at face value.
If you read this blog for any length of time you would know the answer to your question.

@Bobcat - put it this way. Suppose you have a son that earned straight As last year. I imagine you'd be very grateful. And up to a couple of months ago he was still straight As. Then all of sudden the last couple of months he's been bringing home Ds and Fs. So according to your logic, you'll keep your mouth shut because you appreciate all the hard work he's done to earned the As.

And you don't care that he's fallen off the wagon and is now being lazy and unmotivated? you accept that he's perfectly capable of As but are now ok with whatever result is fine?

lakers always lost to bobcats,... why? This team study lakers very much, phil is complacent, bobcats always play lakers physical game, to beat bobcats all lakers player must play physical game.... period.... even nets beat this team because they play physical basketball....

the bobcats kicked the lakers butt again! by the way, that's the dumbest analogy i've ever heard especially when ur team is 38-18. that's hardly d's and f's. all u did was prove my point which is that u laker fans are never satisfied. the fans of charlotte deserve ur team. you deserve the clippers without blake griffin!
