MM, I noticed you put up a thread at 12:45 in the morning, wow u should get a promotion for that indefatigable work habits.

Nice win for the Lakers in taking care of the other Staples tenant.

Speaking of the Clippers, it is high time for them to move to Anaheim at Honda Center rather than the Kings. Three professional team within SoCal is too much. Kings should go back to MidWest like St. Louis or Kansas and build a niche of fans in this area. It takes time to build a following but if they have good management, just priced right they could be a successful franchise. Another place hungry for a team is the Northwest that is Seattle area, the key here start small, aim for small profit while building a Championship franchise.

@Edwin – good points last night in your post about the Pistons. Ultimately the blame falls on Dumars like you mentioned. Bad management.

I do hope Seattle get another team at some point. But it doesn't look good right now with the league talking about contraction.

And now the first cut of the day from the gorgeous Fiona Lewis to ....Yes, Yes, Yes! The Fabulous Justanothermambafan:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey6gq1JuMtU&feature=related - Whatever it Takes - Fiona Lewis

MM,
Can you please put the Phil Jackson post game video up?

Thanks!

dan

LRob,

Did you noticed Magic turned to cold feet in purchasing the Michigan team. Being an astute PG, he sensed the trouble brewing up. In the end, players should give way and do their job in the remaining two months. The owner should take care of this issue before it ruins the Pistons franchise. Who do you think the Lakers can get among these players who will be cut off by April? What happened to Ben Gordon?

Nice win, good to see the starters rest again in the fourth quarter. Ebanks and Caracter on the floor again, missed Joe Smith though. Not sure why Phil doesn't use him more. If one our bigs is injured he may be the player to turn to.

I wouldn't touch Detroit (as an investor) with a ten foot pole. I don't mean just the basketball team, I mean anything within the city or reliant on the city for revenue.

Seattle is the obvious place to take an NBA team right now, IMO. I guess you could go to Omaha or someplace - but a bigger metropolis would probably be more viable.

Sure is nice to be able to post on the blog today - been on a self imposed ban of posting after losses - no need to sweat, the Lakers are taking the rest of the season as serious as their fans. That's all we can ask for. Great win. Great double double for Griffin - it was very LBJ like (although he didn't have to steal the rebound from a teammate at least)

Kind of a broad brush you're using there don't ya think??

Ed,

The biggest problem with the Pistons is ownership. When owner Bill Davidson passed in 2009, his wife took over and promptly announced she was selling the team. That unstability has hurt. And Dumars made some poor decisions (signing Charlie V/Ben Gordon) and hiring two rookie coaches. I don't think Magic was ever in the running to buy the Pistons. I don't know what happened to BG's game. I do know he's better than what he's shown on the Pistons.

I'm not sure who'll all be available via buyouts. I believe the Lakers biggest need is a 4th big man to provide minor relief to Pau/Drew & LO. If Dalembert is available that would be my first choice. Troy Murphy would also be a good fit.

Larry,

Nothing against Detroit, but they have some structural issues that would concern me if I were putting money into a venture based there. Obviously I'm not THAT educated on everything going on there regarding a sports team, but I'd be wary and hesitant to put a significant sum of cash on something that relies on the fundamentals of the city.

The good part about teams going under or losing money is that teams begin getting desperate - and doing things such as trading disgruntled players to the Lakers for the unproven.

I want the whole team to get some of KOBE'S TOUGH AS S**T Medicine!!!!Shaq can no longer be called Superman.........Kobe is Superman, Batman all rolled in to one!! There is only a handful of these players, Brett Favre, MJ and Kobe. LAKER NATION, THE GREATEST!

Yep, even I enjoyed this win. No profanities hurled at the screen this time.

What indeed made me throw up a little bit in my mouth was when Fake Griffin returned in the 4th just to collect his double double. Nice way to build your legacy. Too bad it works...

@Tim-4-Show, once again Mamba24 read to fast. My bad sir but...I like that part about teams getting desperate and sending gifts the Lakers way! LOL!

They may have pointed them out but...No one, NO ONE!!! Points them out the way Magic Phil does!!!! Thank you and...Carry On Sir!

Great to see Pau steppin it up. He and Kobe can see the light at the end of this season, shinin' like a ring.

Couple things on the to do list... get the rooks some run, heat up the Fish / Blake 3 balls and Andrew. Like to see some variation on the offensive side. Where's the hook? The faceup? The bang bang dunk thing works but there's more to his game.

did you ever think the day would come that we would get all "geeked" up over a win against the clippers? well, i guess that day has arrived! to Andy L., i loved the bit on "fake" griffin, didn't realized the clips put him back in to get his token "double-double"!

Anybody read that recent Abbott article on ESPN? http://tinyurl.com/6j5se3p

That brings back memories of that infamous Lebron triple-double in 2009; Varejao should have had an easy rebound but stepped away from it so that Lebron could have hit 10th rebound.

Still no need for the TIVO delay experiment! WOW! Like Magic said, once they get 7-8 in a row (which means all the nasty contenders coming up), we will have something to celebrate!

Tim-4-Show,

Detroit is a good sports town and a very good market overall for entertainment. The Tigers , Red Wings, Lions and Pistons all traditionally do well and are profitable. Pistons attendance is definitely down. The poor economy has certainly impacted them, but I would say their poor product is a bigger factor. Also whoever purchases the Pistons will also purchase the Palace Sports and Entertainment which includes the #1 attended amphitheater in the country (DTE Energy) and a top ten best-selling concert arena in the country (The Palace).

Right now it looks like billionaire Tom Gores, a native of Michigan and current Angelenos, is going to purchase the team.

@MM – congrats for being on Mike and Mike.

@Troll Man – the link you posted for MM on Mike and Mike was to Mary Tyler Moore theme. I don’t know if it was intentional or not. Very funny, although I always liked the part where she threw her hat in the air…lol

@Mamba – nice Leona to get us rolling.

@Magic Phil – good post on the assists. Nice to see the high number and even distribution.

@NuggetsCountry – Time to end the TiVo Experiment permanently. Man Up like the commercials say….j/k.

@Edwin Gueco- we are hungry for a team in KC, let me tell you. We have a beautiful brand-new arena and a revitalized downtown area that is ready to make profit. Not to mention Johnson County Kansas is I believe the third or fourth richest county in the U.S. There is some money to be made out here.

I know Blake Griffin justifiably gets all the attention on the Clips, but that Aminu kid has flown under the radar and is developing into a nice player. I was impressed with what I saw from him in the first half. He's got size, athleticism, and the ability to hit outside shots. This guy can definitely be an important piece of the puzzle for the Clips.

LRob,

Hopefully, Tom Gores' transaction will go through, it would be sad if Detroit will lose a team because of bad management and absentee owner. Another billionaire could buy and move to his own Kingdom. There is market in Motown, and a reputable team that has experienced Championship. How is Dave Bing doing as a Mayor? It seemed that former NBA stallwarts who are now mayors could not hold on to their NBA teams. The mayor of Sacramento is Kevin Johnson, could not prevent the Maloof Bros. from leaving. Why not get SonnyBelfast to be the GM? lol!

I heard Troy Murphy and Jason Kapono will be available once they are waived by their team. Why are they being waived? Because they were expensive and their defensive abilities are gone too. I think they could still help the Lakers on the perimeter offense, would they fit in the triangle within two month's time. Look what happened to Joe Smith, he's treated as a rookie. I still believe we need an athletic PG. I watched the game last night between Blazers vs. Nuggets, it was foot race of NBA greyhound Felton, Lawson, Batum, Fernandez plus Roy. While w/ our Lakers, only Shannon could keep up with athleticism of the young PG's.

I can't feel sorry for the Pistons at all. Bunch of thugs.

I'm certainly not feeling sorry for all their fans who were gloating back in '04. Well look who's back on top now? There's a natural hierarchy in the NBA universe and the Lakers will always be at the top and the Pistons (despite a success here or there) will always be under their feet...

However, I do think the fans would come back if they blew up the team and started from scratch. The Pistons are actually in Auburn Hills I believe, which is actually a relatively well-to-do suburb of Detroit, not the city itself.

The best sports team that came out of Detroit was the Detroit Gems. (*wink, wink*)

"Pau! Where you goin'?" Kobe

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJPIldZW3mQ

Poor Kobe... He has to play his game and everyone else's too. Fish might be the diplomat but Kobe cracks the whip!

I predicted a pretty competitive game but I didn't see that 3rd quarter coming where Kobe was UNCONSCIOUS!! Great stuff to see when those shots are falling! The team is winning when they're supposed to and that in itself is an improvement.

They've got some tune-up games coming up with must wins against OKC, S.A., Miami & Dallas. In my opinion, they really need to sweep these upcoming games right through the 14th. They've got to find a way to secure the 2nd seed in the conference and possibly the best record over the EC champions to secure HCA in the Finals.

Yes sir, "practice season" is over. This is the 2nd half and the Lakers do not have the luxury to take any of these games "off." There's no "switch," but if you're getting progressively better, then you must remain consistent and focused - Pau.

So far, Bynum is holding up and I think it's safe to say that he's really conserving himself for the playoffs. He's doing just enough to make a difference and the team is fully aware of this.

The scoring punch for this team is Pau and Kobe while the rebounding chores fall on Bynum's shoulders. This is getting good folks. Let's just hope the team can sweep the rest of the schedule through March 14th. If they do, believe you me, the rest of the league will take serious notice.

GO LAKERS & IN BUSS WE TRUST!!

sup LRob, my Detroit funk wingman. I don't remember seeing such even stats on assists in my entire bball life. I'm still amused by those stats.

Say hi to Cherelle, if you see her around.

That could result, however, in more expensive Laker tickets since Staples has to make up the lost Clipper revenue.

But my horror scenario in this joint-tenancy arrangement is this: Clippers decide to retire one of their own jerseys. Could you imagine a Clipper jersey hanging side by side with Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Worthy and Goodrich? Yikes!!!

frmkt - yes a thing of beauty when Kobe gets on a roll. Not a thing of beauty when he leaves his man wide open for 3's. That was smart of him to tell Kobe not to zone up on that play, but it would also be wise of him to stay at home more on his man.

Is it just me, or did Kobe seem alot more open with the media last night about an injury?

sup Magic Phil,

Here's a super funky JAM for your Saturday from Mr. Slap Bass himself...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IYYieR1cRk

Cherelle...will do...haha!

oops I meant to say that was smart of Kobe to tell Pau not to zone up...

The Snake,

The first Clipper jersey they will retire is Don Sterling. He is on the news almost 2x a week advertising his generosity. Clippers name should be changed to In and Out for their draft and veteran players.

With regards to tickets, in Buss we should trust our all savings and inheritance for the sake of Laker passion. Can u imagine we all now move to Time Warner cable?

LRob: Yes, my wife laughs hysterically when I threaten to watch the Lakers after it has been recorded when I am home for the game. Never has happened, but my Tums supply was running low very fast and it was an idea worth considering. :-)

great win thank you kobe for taking control of the third quarter. devin ebanks going be a great player or a good person for a trade hate to see him leave but he looks good every time he get a chance to play he will be a good rookie to play in the playoff that when phil like to change things up
