@Corner J - I'm not sure Sonny is worthy of the Lakers. But he can be amusing at times and his voice definitely adds to the blog. Besides if not for Sonny how else would we know how the Lakers "almost rival" from 10 years ago think :-)

GOD@@###$%%!! Does this man have Swagger or what??? OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!!!!!!

I like most people play recreational basketball. And basketball is basketball. On top of that unlike most media and players I am intelligent. Now can the lakers win the ring again yes with a caveat. If kobe becomes the faciluitator and pick his spots the lakers will prevail. I said that months ago and lately hall of famer barkley and kenny smith both said that kobe must become a facilitator.

island priest,

You say most media and players are not intelligent. And then you quote two people from the media. Hmmm!

Interesting snip:

"According to a league source connected to the talks, negotiations for a Bynum-Carmelo deal are "dormant, but not dead," although executives around the league are skeptical that L.A. would surrender a dominant inside presence like Bynum even for a talent like Anthony.
Still, there is said to be a divide in the Lakers' front office about Bynum's value.
In addition, sources said L.A. was rebuffed earlier this month in its pursuit of Washington's Kirk Hinrich, while Artest-Gerald Wallace talks with Charlotte went nowhere."

Stop this!! Stop this I say!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mike-
With due respect to you and all the nervous fans out there that participated in your live chat session yesterday, I don't think anyone has really nailed what is really wrong with this team. In the most troubling games they have lost, they have struggled to break 90 and sometimes even 80(!) points. The SC crowd blames lack of defensive intensity for their woes, and surely that's true and means fewer easy baskets, but there is something more fundamentally wrong with their offense. Look at this compilation of plays from last year's finals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEWGkroBi8c These aren't cherry-picked highlights. These are just run-of-the-mill possessions. The fluidity and ease with which the 2009-10 Lakers ran the Triangle -- always one read and one pass ahead -- is missing this year. I don't know why and I don't know how they get it back, but they needed this level of offensive efficiency just to push Boston to a Game 7. Have opponents figured out how to defend it better? Sure. But a well-run Triangle offense takes what the defense gives it. The Lakers' individual offensive stats are down, but I think it has more to do with the overall team O than individual down years. Maybe this is a symptom of Kobe not being able to practice every play with the team. Maybe it is a lack of focus. But, this has to get fixed, and quickly, for these guys to compete much less three-peat.

Since we have so much love for the Lakers, despite their current struggles...my song for today, with a nod to phred ---- is about the love. How much love?

More love, more joy
Than age or time could ever destroy
My love will be so sound
It would take about 100 lifetimes
To live it down, wear it down, tear it down

Sonny B, I just woke up & to add what Mamba24 & JovBatz have recanted.....
REPENT, YOU SINNER. lol!

Tell me how many among all NBA players who have not indulged in extra marital affairs, perhaps Larry Bird, well we don't really know because there was no news about his personal life so let's assume it as clean. How about the others? I don't have to enumerate and re-open their pandorra's boxes. Well, Kobe was caught because there was no meeting of minds towards his wild adventure. His mind was controlled by his libido. As a result, Kobe paid dearly monetarily w/ a tainted persona. I think JovBatz44 was right...why can't we not move on from that extra marital affairs the way we moved on others? Wilt was even proud with his claim of sleeping w/ 1001 women, yet he did not suffer that kind of excruciating blame.

Since you are there in Thailand, perhaps you research on the Metta (loving kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (sympathetic joy) and upekka (equanimity). They are the principle of forgiveness from the Buddhist's point of view. "Buddhism questions the reality of the passions that make forgiveness necessary as well as the reality of the objects of those passions." 'If we haven’t forgiven, we keep creating an identity around our pain, and that is what is reborn. That is what suffers.' I quote.

3. he's shown that it's possible for an old dog to learn new tricks.
4. he's shown how to civic minded and not draw attention to his

Edwin (and others),

I responded on the thread prior to this one...
brain freeze.

In the spirit of rivalry, I appreciate the kind sentiments...
Many of you are nice people, and the board can be fun...
not to mention, a very useful distraction for several of us.

Even so...

It is Purple and Black that I bleed...
that ain't gonna change.

Go Kings!

Sonnybelfast

Repost Compost...and I'm outta here...

Edwin,

What IS this obssession with adultery this morning?
For some reason, everyone keeps talking
about Kobe's extra-marital affair
with the skank from Colorado.

They have a lot of pet stores here in Chiang Mai which sell almost
everything except Duck food, and there's a reason for that.

If I even thought too hard about cheating on my lady,
the ducks would be quacking in joy come sun up;
it'd be like their Thanksgiving Day, except it'd be prime rib,
and lots of it.

Except in response to comments others have made,
I seldom broach the topic of adultery on this blog anymore.
(No need to. There are too many other things to despise about your Saint)
But bring it up...and it's fair game...it will always be relevant.
But, I agree, the past is the past,
and I'm more than willing not to hear that he cheated on his spouse again.

Can't stand religious zealotry of any flavor...
(Except of course, the book of Teniente)
but as far as religions go...
Buddhists disturb me least.
You made some nice references though.

Our western culture could learn a lot from
the Buddhist way of thinking and living...
and I'm not referencing the phonies on Hollywood Blvd,
and the other skunks running around up north.

I bet Laker fans are anxious to see how they come out of the gate
after the break. Try not to be too disappointed.
I'm off for a nap...then to Burma...see ya'll in a few days.

Go Kings!

Mamba24,

Where is my name on the roll call? I've been on this blog since day one! I was actually one of the first names added to the roll call back in the day.

Anyway, can someone tell the Lakers the preseason ended in November?

@sean - Don't get mclyne starting with White Stripes...lol.

@Mamba - I don't think that was the smell, but it definitely was some type of odor.....that smell.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6q9nBusrq8

What up, Mamba?!!!! With things like this, I'm going with my gut, I don't like a couple of things that have happened this year, I'm convinced there's a rat.

1) Ron's 'blow-up' w/Phil- The practices are closed, so, the media realistically would have never found out about the spat, if it wasn't for an informant on the inside. Trust is a key component to any working relationship. Phil's logic was right, Ron Artest felt betrayed when word leaked out.

Ron's not the rat. Phil's not the rat.

2) If it was a player- they would have been found out already- That Locker Room is tight. Fish's leadership is sound, he's been around the block. Kobe's been very conscious about what the media knows and what they need to know. Lamar's a soldier, a rock, he doesn't gossip.

3) Andrew's not shy about talking, he wouldn't betray Phil's trust either.

4) Whoever the mole is, gives away info/intel voluntarily. Seeing that Practices are closed practices, the information exchange is voluntarily on the mole's part.

Does the LakeShow have a rat in the Locker Room? I think so.

If I had to guess who the rat is, I'd say Daniel Artest. I could be completely wrong.

Sonnybelfast, like it or not. You're a Lakeraholic.

It's time.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Never thats not a Roll Call it's just a mini Good morning to those who posted.
Be assured that I would NEVER leave Never off The Roll Call. Carry on Sir,

IT'S TIME!! SONNY BELFAST HONORARY LAKERHOLIC - BANDWAGON
@Sonny

I use to live in Sacramento during their "glory days". I had a friend who was just really getting into basketball and was becoming a Kings fan. I told him one day that if he wants to continue to love basketball for the rest of his life he should be a Laker Fan. He asked: "why is that"? I said: "Because you can enjoy this run by the Kings, but when it's over.....It is over until God knows when. The Lakers, well they are forever".

That is why my passion runs deep for the NBA, because as a Laker Fan it is the NBA4ever. Love and support your Kings just like Jon K's support of the Clippers, but just remember why you are here on our blog; it's because when your a Laker Fan EVERYDAY of the year is interesting.

GOOD THINGS DO COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT. ZECHARIAH 4:6 JEREMIAH 29:11 AMOS 9:13

Jerry West … Mister Clutch. I can remember vividly all those bygone Sundays watching the NBA Game of the Week on Channel 7. And so many of those contests featured the Lakers versus the Boston Celtics or New York Knicks or Milwaukee Bucks – “the powers of the NBA” as the late great Chick Hearn once upon a time labeled the fabled league’s elite. Back then, all us Lakers fans would watch the game on TV with the sound turned off while catching the play-by-play from radio via Chicky Baby. In those titanic struggles, the outcome was often settled in the final draining moments. Hearn’s blaring frenetic voice would go something like this – “Game tied with just seconds to play. West at the top of the key yo-yoing up and down with his back to the basket. Jerry being guarded like the rug on your floor – it’s nervous time! 3-2-1, Mr. Clutch’s shot at the buzzerrrrr … “Let’s go home team.”

No wonder all us kids used to imitate and idolize Zeke. With all due respect to Abdul-Jabbar’s soaring skyhook or the razzle-dazzle sleight of hands from Magic, Maravich & the Cooze or the defensive artistry of Bill Russell’s smothering smackdowns or Baylor-Dr. J-Air Jordan co-starring as Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, Jerry West’s gracefully efficient and lethal jump shot with the feather touch remains the most beautiful thing ever produced by the NBA. Jerry’s jumper was always executed with such smoothness that, had it been gravy, there’d be no lumps. Armed with the reflexes of a hummingbird and the sights of an eagle, the weapon was unstoppable. He’d launch that puppy with a screeching slam on the brakes and a delicate squeeze of the trigger, then swish – all net. The most viable defense for it was prayer. How West never shot 98% from the field is a complete mystery. His misses looked prettier than most people’s makes. But the shot’s beauty belied the grit and grim reaped at the opposition’s expense.

And speaking of West’s opponents, they weren’t just a bunch of tomato cans, but rather, superstars among the greatest of all-time. Legendary players like Russell, Chamberlain, Jabbar, Reed, the Big O, Hondo, Clyde and Earl the Pearl Monroe. West against the best made a great game even better. In a current era where greed is the order of the day, Jerry West has always stood for excellence. What an amazing career he’s had. What an amazing man he is. That bronze statue should’ve been made out of gold.
