No sound, MM.

I'm bad on reading lips...

*******************The Lakers played horrible**************************
The Lakers have really disappointed me today after this loss to the Celtics. I sense the Lakers fear the Celtics. Nobody was really attacking our big men weren’t even effective at all. Gasol is a real softy and I really don’t understand why PJ never likes going tall at least for the last quarter and be a big mismatch for the opponents. (Kobe and Lamar running the Point, Gasol and Bynum and have Matt Barnes when he’s healthy in the line up with them. Artest needs a walker or a hand boost to touch the rim. I say the Lakers trade for Carmelo they have player who don’t even play like: (Character, Joe Smith, Ratlif, Walton, even the first round pick for 2012).

********************The Lakers played horrible*************************

Someone NOT named Kobe needs to wake up. Our bigs were non-existent—especially Pau, who just doesn't look like himself out there. Today, they were the better team.

Go Lake Show!

The turnaround key was when Ron Artest got injured -- (early in the 3rd quarter). Pierce then went "off" and the Lakers being much smaller (Kobe playing the 3) couldn't get rebounds. Before that, Lakers were playing great.

The Laker bigs were good in the first half, but not in the second.

With Matt Barnes out we couldn't match up. Too bad Ebanks doesn't play yet...

m.

That said, it's not sky-is-falling time. Just gotta continue getting better.

Go Lake Show!

Why does this team decide to not run any semblance of an offense? Why doesn't someone besides Kobe step up when needed? Why does Phil insist on playing Walton over..................nevermind.

Kobe's great, but he can't beat the best team in the East all by himself. Where was Pau? Where was Lamar? I don't need to ask about Ron-Ron's game because he left it back in last June. Where was Bynum? Where was Shannon? I guess this team, minus Kobe, didn't feel like this "practice season game" mattered all that much.

On the other hand, this Spetics squad is much deeper than last year. They have much more size to match up with our length. They actually run an offense, and play great team defense, unlike the Lakers.

I sure hope Miami,Chicago, or Orlando pushes the Septics past the brink in the playoffs, because as of today, we would not beat the Septics in a seven game series.

I'm already looking foward to next season, if there will be one at all, because this team, minus Kobe, has no desire to win another Championship. At least I can still watch the other team in L.A. that plays hard every single game.

It seems to me that the way this team works is once Kobe tries to take over, the rest of the team works toward letting him do it. He wants ISO plays so there's no cutting, no moving around, no ball movement. They just clear out and let him operate.

131: You are probably deep in the cups by now, but I'd like to congratulate your team on the victory. The Celts are better than last year; luckily, I think we'll be better than last year, too. It'll be a great series if both our teams make it.

Go Lake Show!

I think Gasol's tires have gone bad and like Jerry West says you can't change tires on a player. Gasol gave us everything in his 3 years and it led to 2 titles but I think he might have too many miles. Also the scouting report on seems to just be physical with him and you can pretty much take him out of the game. It works for good teams like the celtics and bad ones like the kings.

Kobeball, huh? Against THEM?? Sheesh!

@Lew: This is the week we actually move from Inglewood to Torrance so I will not be online for GDP's and other stuff. Feel free to round up a team and submit them yourselves.

See y'all next Monday!

@Lew – congrats on RCOTD. You got your wish the Lakers were motivated today, but wasn’t good enough.

@Mamba – Thanks for the roll call and congrats on your 3peat.

@Justa – I hope you feel better.

@Celtic Fans – Congrats on a dominating victory. Your boys outplayed the Lakers in every facets.

The rest of the team better grow a pair and start cutting to towards the basket. I think Kobe knows better than anyone that his team cannot and will not win unless EVERYONE is involved and agressive. When he sees the other four guys out there playing passively, he goes into domination mode. This would be okay if the other space cadets out there would cut to an open space on the floor, preferably TOWARDS the basket and give Kobe another target besides the net. I also don't understand why Phil, being the HEAD COACH, would allow this nonsensical OSO ball for an entire quarter. Just stupid basketball.

Wow - embarrassed to be a laker fan. These dudes totally suck except kobe. blow this team up and get some players who want to win. gasol really needs to get traded.

hate to say it but boston will win it and shaq will get another ring. totally sucks!!!
they are so deep and have every base covered. if they are healthy they will win it all. a totally healthy laker team will not win it this year.

I you watch the Clippers play, every guy on the floor is out there playing his heart out. They kind of remind me of a Jerry Sloan coached team. Even though they know their chances of making the playoffs are slim, they still go out there and compete, every night, regardless of who their opponent is. Maybe it's because they know that they are really playing for their next contract which will be a golden ticket out of Clipperland.

All I know is right now, they play a much more cohesive and effort filled kind of basketball than the back to back World Champions. I can't actually beleive that I wrote that about the Clippers...

It's a chicken or the egg discussion to me. Is he getting aggressive because they're passive or are they getting passive because he's aggressive? It's hard to say, but it's a little of both from what I see.

I think both sides need to make sure it doesn't happen.

Yeah, I agree with that. The problem is: if us lowly fans see this as a reocurring problem, why doesn't the coaching staff see it as one, and adjust accordingly?

It was nice to Beat LA today. Oh by the way where did Ron Artest go in the 2nd half. It was awesome to see Pierce go off. KOME played well but no other Laker played well. I had my BEAT LA shirt on all day today. Lets face it the Lakers only won game 7 last June because the Celtics had no Kendrick Perkins due to injury in game 7 and the Lakers barely won that game. Shaq played poorly today but his presence made other Celtics play well. I will be planning my trip to LA for the finals come June 2011

Celtic's defense:

Davis plays Pau much better than Garnett does. Pau did well against Garnett, especially in the first half.

Shaq is slow to rotate. When he went out, that helped the Celtics. Perkins is obviously not at 100% yet.

The Celtic defense was really porous in the first half.

@LEW
Congrats on the Friedman! They might have been motivated, but besides Kobe, that did not translate into results. They were terrible on D, on the boards, on taking it to the rim hard, and on moving the basketball.

The Celts did beat us today, but our players, minus Kobe, helped them out by playing lousy, uninspired, SOFT basketball.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I will now be adding a "GO CLIPPERS" tag after each and every one of my posts from here on out.

GO CLIPPERS!

Also forgot to add this one:

Put a fork in Ron-Ron because he is done!

Luke's contract is starting to look like a bargain now compared to Artest's ALBOTROSS of one.

In a seven game series I still have confidence in the Lake Show. LA is suspect in regular season games against big teams. It was games the last few years where u could right them off, I witness people jump off the band wagon then jump back on in May. Players started watching the Kobe show late in the game. Bigs disappeared. LO disappeared. Glen Davis showed LO how to hustle and get dirty buckets late in the game.

Not even 1 blame to Koby Briant? he is destroying all the team dynamic of this team , making everybody worst. Looks like he plays alone, and the rest of players feel like ok.. fuck it... and dont play focushed. Specially gasol, he is a team player, forcing shoots is not his game style.

A couple of quick thoughts….

No excuses. The Lakers were up for this game and wanted to win. Maybe not as bad as Boston but they definitely wanted it. Boston executed better offensively and defensively. Ron was surprisingly passive on defense. Pau and Drew played very un all star like.

Enough already with the blame Kobe stuff. The team would have lost by more if Kobe didn’t keep them in the game.

Boston shot 67% (23/35) in the second half, thus poor defense was the main culprit in this one. The key point in the game was Pierce 3rd quarter explosion including three wide open 3’s.

Wow, what a fun game to watch. It is true after all. The competition did get MUCH better while the Lakers got much older. The game was not close and the Celtics pulled away in the second half. How on earth can a team allow another team to hit 60% of its shots??
You can't beat the Celtics
You can't beat the Spurs
You can't beat the Heat

The Lakers dynasty is over and unless Jerry Buss spends a lot more money you guys are toast.

Oh well, you can always watch reruns of the Kardashians Show in June since your team won't be playing.

Time to get a piping hot bowl of chowder, followed by a 3 lb Maine lobster and accompanied by an icy cold Sam Adams.

Victory is sweet!

Let's see, now who did we play in 2009 Finals? Was it the Celts, nooo, how about those LBJ led Cavs, nooo. Oh, it was the Magic. It is fun to count chickens in January though, ha, ha.

One question for u all....Las year, about the same part of the season, gasol was playing crap, and everybody blamed about him.. and i said.. Time has showed us, if u stay on Gasol's side u will have results cause he is a winner. And then it happened, playoffs he started playing like the hell of a player he is. So im not even worried. Im just worried about Bryant's ego

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ON TODAY’S GAME !!!
……………………………………………………………………
To begin with, like all of us, I was completely dismayed at how the Lakers played today although I suspect from the comments that I have read that my opinions and criticisms will not be very popular. At any rate, here’s my take on what I took from the game and what I think the Lakers need to do.

I stated before that it’s only January and which team wins or loses the actual game won’t really count. But I also stated that the team that won the front court battle of toughness could walk away with a definite edge should the teams meet again in the NBA Finals. Drew vs. Shaq and Perkins, Pau vs. KG, and LO vs. Big Baby. The team that wins those matchups wins the game. Today, that was the Celtics.

Two of the critical front court matchups that favored the Lakers in last year’s Finals –Artest on Pierce and Gasol on Garnett - were clearly won by the Celtics today. I thought Drew played pretty well, shutting down both Shaq and Perkins and hitting 50% of his shots. Other than the one drive by Big Baby, Drew basically controlled the paint. I also thought Lamar did a credible job and shot a high percentage, although that bone headed play to end the first half cost the Lakers momentum.

The big disappointment again was Pau Gasol, who seems to be a shell of the guy who helped us repeat last year. KG totally dominated Pau and his help defense when Drew was out of the game was weak. Worst of all though were the weak shot attempts that Pau consistently threw up at the rim. I can’t help thinking that day by day, Mitch may actually be thinking of a possible Pau for Melo swap. The salaries are about the same and Melo would provide some toughness down low that Pau doesn’t.

As for Ron Artest’s performance, 1 of 10 from the field and weak defense on Pierce left the Lakers playing four on five much of the night. It’s one thing if Ron was injured and I am sure he will rebound but you could see how easy it was for Paul to score today than it was in last year’s Finals. Pierce is having a career year and Ron looks like he has aged two years. Hopefully, Ron will rebound.

Finally, I was also disappointed in Kobe. I thought he had learned that you can’t beat a team like the Celtics single handed. 41 points and 0 assists is not a winning formula in my book, nor in Phil Jackson’s book. Kobe needed to get his teammates involved rather than waving them off over and over as he posted up in isolation. As great as Kobe is, this is not how you beat other great teams. And everybody standing around watching is also not conducive to good transition or half court defense. Only 1o assists shows the Lakers didn’t run their offense. You can’t beat Boston with Kobe ball. Kobe and his defenders need to learn this. Otherwise, this Lakers team is not going to three-peat.

TOM

i know the lakers play for rings and nothing matters until the playoffs come, etc. i understand we have rings for the last 2 years which is almost impossible and we're spoiled as fans but all i am saying is it really would be nice during the regular season to win games like these as a fan its just frustrating to see the way they fell apart at the end with the defensive lapses and people just standing flatfooted not really playing with any hunger to win.

all of the lakers begged pj to come back this year so he is holding his end of the bargain and hopefully the switch comes on 1 more time because i would like to see him go out as a winner.

oh ef me if they get melo for pau - i will totally cream in my pants. i never liked pau - he is so soft...sick of seeing him play like weak crap. luke walton - when the ef do they get rid of this dude? artest has real mental problems. keep kobe and drew - everyone else is tradeable.

jerry west was right - this team can't defend and mitch needs to make some incredible trade.

Fricking Melo on this team would be AWESOME!!! I don't even care if Lakers don't win this season - it'll give the fans something to be excited about besides losing all the time.

Have they won one big game this season?

whoever starts those bandwagons - put me on the Melo for Pau bandwagon any ol' day!!!!!!

We MUST get RID of ga-SOFT. That's the only chance we have of winning. He has not progressed, but digressed.

pau and Artest for:

Deng and Noah
David West and Ariza
Bogut and Maggette
Danny Granger and Tyler Hansbrough
Nene and Carmelo
Randolph and Rudy Gay

What i was up with our bigs today i didn't think they was playing aggressive enough down low. Pau my man try harder getting position down in the paint baby, seems like the celtics got all the rebounds and we was dominated on the boards i don't know what was the rebound stats was but i bet they kill us.They seem to the more physical and aggresive team our bigs got pushed around again today sc bigs did it in friday now boston did it today. When will they push back.

Ron artest you did a great job on pierce in the playoff, but seems like you forgot how to guard your man pierce had his way with you.I saw the celtics shot 61% from the field that was terrible defense boys.

Championship teams don't play like that when playing a team thats a threat to your crown. They're suppose to beat these teams and put doubt in their minds aout playing them. But instead were giving these team confident and frankly that sucks. If they don't wake up soon enough we won't make it out of the 1st round.
Go lakers!

Laker Tom great analysis. I'm a bit harsh but we are both stating the obvious. Kobe at his age is not playing smart ball. Phil cannot sit on his high chair and appear helpless as Kobe take shot after shot. It was like he was trying to outscore Pierce. Phil, you have just as much clout as Kobe sit him down. In fact bench anybody who is not giving the effort. It is worth it to lose couple games if you gain control of the team again. By the way the Cs won the rebound battle 43 to 30 and the assist battle 34 to 10. Kobe had 0 assist. West is right.

>>>I sense the Lakers fear the Celtics.

Fear? not a chance.

Respect? Yes. But not fear.

>>>Other than the one drive by Big Baby, Drew basically controlled the paint

Sorry LT, but 6 rebounds in 28 minutes when you're the tallest guy on the court is NOT controlling the paint.

If Bynum had any chance of getting added to the All-Star team, these last two games probably played him out of that chance.

Although I hoped for a different result, expected the loss to the Celtics today, especially after the loss to the Kings on Friday night. The Lakers have been inconsistent since their first loss of the season against Denver. You never know what to expect from one night to the next.

I always was proud of the Lakers in that they would normally outwork and out-hustle the Celtics. The opposite occurred today.

Shaq O'Neal has made the Celtics an even more complete team. He can man- handle Bynum and then for the Celtics there is K. Perkins and Bob Davis. Unless something changes dramatically, the Celtics will be champions in June as they were playing great even before today.

The Lakers may be tall - but the Celtics are tall and powerful. What is Theo Ratliff's status? The Lakers need to trade for a big man from somewhere. Saw a post earlier - trade for Carmelo Anthony. But that will mean giving up something. So suggest Ron Artest - unfortunately he is nothing offensively; and Walton, who I cannot understand why he is still a member of the Lakers. Then, throw in Blake - who has as much offense capability as me.

Also, why was Sasha V traded (?) - he was intense, a clutch shooter; and he disliked the Celtics intensely and played to win every game. He is far superior to Blake. To-date, that was the Lakers biggest personnel mistake this season.

Today's game was a measuring stick for the season and the result was not good. This has happened previously and better make changes now - because as of now, the Lakers will not only not win the championship but will not make the Finals. Not good and the Lakers and Lakers fans need to wake up.

The Lakers have yet to beat any decent team; and to lose doube-digits at home to Miami and Boston send a bad signal.

I love the free sample site "123 Get Samples" search online to find their official website, that's where i get most of my samples from!!! yay i love free stuff.

Laker Tom, Quick question if you disappoint in Kobe please enlighten my why? Exactly who was he supposed to get involved and how? I guess you watched a different game than I did. All the so called bigs stopped playing once Boston got physical. The only reason we were in the game at half time was because Kobe kept us there. Gasol checked out of this game in the first quarter and Bynum soon followed. Lamar just before half time with that stupid play of his. You have got to call the game as you see it not get up in the hype. Ron Artest has not been playing basketbnall in the last month or so and Fisher does what Fisher does. I guess Kobe should walk them to the basket holding their hand, lift them up by the waist so that they can drop the ball in and then tell them how to defend and rebound while providing them with toughness. I don't comment on this blog to often but I do read it just to see if people are seeing the same game as myself. I have said quite a few times that Gasol, Artest and Fisher have been stealing Dr. Buss's money for sometime now. Hey, but I guess it is easier to blame Kobe for all the shortcoming of this team. Now my verdict on the Lakers: If Artest and Gasol do not change their games drastically this version of the Lakers will not get out of the west. The bench has to play smarter basketball.

The bench has to play smarter basketball.

===============
The bench needs to be used. Play Ebanks instead of Luke. Give DC time on the court.

Gasol was showing the best basketball in his carreer at the start of the season and he can get that level back. The only problem is he is damn anoyed with Koby as a ball hog, and that makes him feel wtf and thats why he plays unfocused and looses self confidence because he is a TEAM PLAYER .
Bryant was even missing training sessions!!! and eveybody in the team knew it, and then he goes to the media and tells them he will blame the team in training session for their low performance, WTF! Everybody in the team is hating the sitiation thats why they play with no intensity they are anoyed.

kobe is good but i think he is overrated....his stats show that he makes a lot of points but think about this....does this fact contribute a lot to the real strength of the team?....pardon me but i don't think that the answer to this basic question is in the affirmative.....look at the team standings, those teams with just one player doing most of the scoring are the ones lagging behind...just a thought
