Welcome back, Jamie Sweet. Missed your input around here.

Go Lake Show!

"Silver Screen and Roll's C.A. Clark wants Lakers guard Steve Blake to produce more."

I wonder why?

I knew this was at best a push with Farmy when the deal went down, and now I'm even more convinced; I do not think Blaker is out producing Farmy. At least JF led the team in 3 point % last season. What's sad is that Derek is even weaker than he was a year ago, so it makes this problem at PG even more pronounced.

But, all in all, if everyone else is humming along, it's not really an issue. Blaker has more potential in him than he's showing right now, and I'm waiting to see if he awakens again heading into the playoffs.

Mclyne- Dude REALLY.... what about Malone and Barkley, Stockton just to name a few. They have no RINGS, John Stockton will go down as one the GREATEST point guards EVER.

And Shaq made a difference during the Heat championship, teams still had to double team him regardless of him being SLOW and OVERWEIGHT, he still DOMINATED the post. Just give the King his CREDIT, as one of the BEST today

Tonight will be a good test for Bynum.

G. money - sorry, but Magic will go down as the greatest PG evah. Not even close.

I dropped by again just to congratulate my old lephre' foe, OH for getting the RCOTD. I think your observation on Matt is spot on. Matt's activity on the floor is contagious and his confidence in letting Dr. Lombardo do his knee surgery is also worth mentioning. Therefore, the new recruits would surely help provided they bring forth new energy, new vision to move the Lakers to three-feat level. Every generation of Lakers Champs have the McAddoo, the Mychal Thompson, Rice and others.

G. money - to clarify, Magic's rings help with that, along with his all-around superior play, and Stockton can't be in the conversation because... HE AIN'T GOT NO RINGS, BABY!

Oh, and well-said OH and congrats on the Friedman.

Nice commercial by D-League featuring Shannon. Good to see his hard work is paying off.

@Old Hippy - congrats on RCOTD. You’re right, Matt is fortunate to get a glimpse of Kobe’s work ethic up close.

@Lew – Way to bring the new school. I’m going to say all current Top 10 songs? Produced by StarGate? (Just heard What's My Name a minute ago)

@mclyne – Janet is the first thing I thought of when I read 63 Footer post…lol

@G Money – No doubt about Lebron’s greatness. But like Jon K’s signature line says…We play for Rings!

@Sean – Elaine’s dancing…ouch that’s painful to even think of that.

@63 Footer - I'm glad you like.

@G. Money - I'm trying to understand your fan-dom better and a have a few questions for you....

1. How long have you been a Heat fan?
2. Did you come over with Lebron?
3. When did the Lakers become your 2nd favorite team?
4. Were the Lakers ever your favorite team?
5. What team did you root for before the Miami got their franchise?

- Steve Blake seems to have slowed down since his ankle injury from a few weeks ago. I wonder how much the injury is contributing to his struggles.

- Can't wait to see Kobe and Sasha going at it.

Tonight will be a good test for Bynum.

Posted by: hobbitmage | January 14, 2011 at 09:43 AM

Yes it will, but we won't be able to evaluate his performance until we review the box score after the game.

@Lew – Way to bring the new school. I’m going to say all current Top 10 songs? Produced by StarGate? (Just heard What's My Name a minute ago)

Today's Music Quiz Answer...

All 3 songs were in tho Top 10 Songs for 2010...

#8 Tonight (I'm Lovin' You) - Enrique Iglesias Featuring Ludacris & DJ Frank E

#2 Firework - Kate Perry
#4 What's My Name? - Rihanna Featuring Drake

Tribute: Kobe Bryant and his 2 jerseys #8 and #24

Have a Purple and Gold Day all...

The Glass is Half Full Baybee...

Lakers Dynasty - The Next Generation...

#17 Coming Up!!!

Jeeze Lew, that's worse than trying to figure out the plot in Primer... much, much cooler than the plot in Primer because it's got Kobe #'s in it, but still frickin' convoluted.

Good one!

MVP - If the Lakers have half as much fun as NRBQ then it'll be a 3-0 weekend :-)

@63 Footer - I have to keep our minds simulated with something else...besides arguements...

@LRob - the 'Box Scores' shows you with a win with the correct answer...stats don't

@Edwin Gueco - great to see you again Kumpadre...

@MVP888 - Bynum don't need no stinking test!!!

i like the match up between 'drew and brook lopez. a chance to go head to head with a "true" center. i like the way we've been playing as of late, we seem to have our "swagger" back. we can't overlook the nets tonight, with clippers on sunday and the thunder on monday. definitely looking forward to that game on monday, more so than the clippers game. keep it rolling Lakers!

hi all. i've posted a few times recently out of the blue. long time reader though, and i think i will be posting with regularity now. i joined livechat a few times. if mamba24 reads this, please throw me on all the bandwagons. lewstrs, please put me on the soul train. zaira's tweets are off the chain. JAMF, i have all star saturday tickets, center court 100 section. MM is the definition of excellence. and again to g money... "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER YOU WIN BY AN INCH OR A MILE. WINNING'S WINNING." winning matters in june. lbj can't make it to june.

i hope drew doesn't get schooled too hard today by the goodlopez.

G. Money

You just don't get it dude. All of the regular season stats, HYPE, accolades, and trash talk will NEVER EVER, EVER amount to greatness.

Greatness is acheived through leading one's team through playoff battle tested teams and remaining the last team standing. This is something that LeCreep currently knows nothing about. Until he wins multiple Rings, he can only be considered a regular season star!

soshibo - sooooo.... you decide to become a regular and one of the first things you do is brag about how you're going to the ASG and I'm not???

Have you ever heard of 'karma'?

Also, I too will be very intereseted in your answers to the questions that 63 posed to you earlier.

Until he wins multiple Rings, he can only be considered a regular season star!

Posted by: mclyne | January 14, 2011 at 10:47 AM

and high school champion.

mclyne? Do we have a deal, or don't we?

Have you ever heard of 'karma'?

Posted by: justanothermambafan | January 14, 2011 at 10:48 AM

i heard it sprains ankles, makes you lose to the clippers and get assists in 30 point blowouts

@OLD HIPPY... Congrats on the Friedman. Hopefully, acceptance will not diminish your standing as an iconoclast and member of the GHE club.
@HOBBITMAGE... I agree that tonight should be a good test of Drew. Let’s hope he passes with flying colors, right?
@EDWIN... Great to see you stopping by, old friend. For a second there before I saw your post, I almost had an epiphany that Edwin Gueco and Old Hippy were one in the same. LOL.
@KOBEMVP888.... Hilarious post about the box score. I’ll bet even hobbitmage laughed.

@Hippy - congrats on the Friedman...can't say MM is biased...

@Laker Tom - good morning to you too...

@justa - ask LeBrick about KARMA...(hey I didn't post that...someone hacked my account)

Tonight is a big test for Kobe. Facing Sasha for the first time.

Larry - I KNEW you were justanon. Can't believe you did that.

Larry - I KNEW you were justanon. Can't believe you did that. Posted by: justanothermambafan | January 14, 2011 at 11:16 AM
Well if you read your Email I send you in 5 minutes it will all be revealed to you Fabulous. Sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry.!

Lew, thanks for posting roll call in Mamba24's absence again.

Roll call .. checking in!!!

Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar and YOUR New Jersey Nets come into Staples Center tonight. You don't think these guys are going to play their tails off for 48 minutes? Jordan gets his well deserved ring and Sasha will try to make a point. When Sasha tries too hard, you know what normally happens. Stupid fouls and missed wide open threes.

Now for the interesting part of tonight's game. Here are the mid-season records for every team with three-peat aspirations since the Lakers attempted it in 1989, 20 years after the last team to repeat in 1969, the 48-24 Boston Celtics (who dipped to 34-48 in 1969-70 and missed the playoffs). I also included the final regular season records of these three-peat minded teams and the results for these teams in the playoffs. If the Lakers win tonight, THIS team ... whose play has been fair-to-middling in the eyes of Lakers fans (self included) and NBA experts ... will have the BEST mid-season record of ALL these teams. Who knew!

1988-89 Lakers: 28-13 (finished 57-25; swept by Pistons in the NBA Finals)
1990-91 Pistons: 28-13 (finished 50-32; swept by Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals)
1992-93 Bulls: 28-13 (finished 57-25; three-peat)
1995-96 Rockets: 27-14 (finished 48-34; swept by Sonics in the Second Round)
1997-98 Bulls: 29-12 (finished 62-20; three-peat)
2001-02 Lakers: 29-12 (finished 58-24; three-peat)
2010-11 Lakers: 30-11 ???

Since 1989, three-peat minded teams have either accomplished their goal or got swept out of the playoffs. Coincidentally, Phil Jackson has been the only head coach to pull off three-peats, but that's common knowledge. I love NBA history!

1-2-3 RING! #17 coming up STRONG!!

@KOBEMVP888.... Hilarious post about the box score. I’ll bet even hobbitmage laughed.

Posted by: LakerTom | January 14, 2011 at 10:51 AM

How much? :)

Mamba24 is IN THE HOUSE!

Out Freakin' Standing, sir!!

Congrats on the RCOTD; Matt and anyone else with genuine ambition will benefit from being around greatness; the work ethic, determination and desire will definitely "rub-off" on those who seek to be the same. It's how Caron Butler became as good as he has - get well soon. He publicly commented how he wanted to be as good as Kobe and put in the same amount of work; I think Shannon has that same desire and listening to Matt's comments yesterday, he gets it too. Hurry back Matt!

In G-Money's defense he wrote that Stockton was "one the GREATEST point guards EVER" but not THE greatest because anyone that argues Earvin "Magic" Johnson is not THE greatest Point Guard ever to suit up just doesn't understand basketball. 6'9" of pure Point Guard madness will never be duplicated and I suspect it never will. Talk about once in a lifetime and most of us were able to experience every single game of it. You can never get enough of Magic on a basketball court competing in every single game. Pure Magic.

We’ve had contenders: Jalen Rose, Lamar Odom and even the other prodigy to come along after Magic, LeBron James. If LBJ can ever remove his head from his crown, he just might realize all of the skills he was gifted with but in order to do so, he has to get his head together. He’s simply relying on ability and the desire to make money; it takes a whole lot more than that. Just ask Magic, Jordan and Kobe, three of the greatest guards to ever play the game. Enjoy the Black Mamba while he’s still on the court having fun.

Stop that KobeMVP888, Stop that right now!!!! LOL! how you be my brother?

Now you know you're in trouble. You've been a Bad Boy!

The last time we had a party
It ended when the sun came up
That's why your mama told you
That you couldn't go out
Stay in the house
Bad Boy

Dear Lord, Let us play with honor. Let us obey our coaches instructions. Let us play with focus and discipline and bring home another win.

Great post. We can add Jason Kidd and Steve Nash to the list of great point guards to have never won a title and whose chances diminish with every dribble. D-Wil and CP3 may have similar resumes by the time they are through, but who knows. Among them, however, ZIP. Out of curiosity, who have the centers been on their teams? It's still a big man's game.

WOW - Mamba24 AND utzworld return!!!

You know it's a special day!!

HELL YEAH!!! The BANNER HOLDER IS BACK and all is right and good and just in LAKER NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jammin with DJ LRob, it don't get no better than that!!!! How are you my brother? Did you get slammed by the storm?

Oh by the way KOBEMVP888, the 11:22 am post...OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

soshibo - apparently you're not understanding. That's cool. Just watch where you're going....hate to see you tweak your ankle.

Posted by: justanothermambafan | January 14, 2011 at 11:15 AM

don't worry. i just fell going up the stairs after lunch. thanks. ROFL

I missed your first post about our agreement...

As for Mamba and UTZ making returning- We are now whole.

I was going to offer a prayer, but now that UTZ is back, I can return to the bench until my number's called in the future.

I'm well and enjoying the wide spectrum of banter in here, which includes a battering I take from many bloggers! I've decided to read "The Art of War." LeBron inspired me. lol!

You're the inspiration and the glue in here. You have a responsibility and an obligation to us that you MUST fulfill. We beg and plead of you to STAY and post your MAGNIFICENT roll call.

Much obliged, sir!

mclyne - the vid of the dance for the drive in the car. What say you?

soshibo - well that's what happens when you brag to everyone about how you're going to the ASG and I'm not. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Sure thing, what city are you located in?

You are too kind counselor, but thank you so much...carry on!

@Mclyne, If you say we whole sir... that's good enough for me! Lol! How you doing my brother?

Doing well. Looking forward to spending some time with the wife and kids during the three day weekend. How are you doing?

@NewMexicoLL, wherever you are how are you? Thanks for the good wishes for the Bears this weekend. Think of it, The bears, the Bears? might be going go the SuperBowl...Aw Heck Naw that's just wrong!!!!!!!!
@GMoney, Thank you my brother I owe you, you know? Yeah I know you know! LMAO!!! But sincerely thanks!...Truly!!!!!!!

@Mclyne, It's all good sir. Just try to not get to many tickets!! LOL!

@soshibo/tibolol, you shall indeed be on all bandwagons in creation! And welcome to Lakers Nation and Lakers Blog!

I was actually naming guys who were touted as being the next Magic coming into the league because of their height and ball handling abilities. No doubt the others you have named are great in their own right. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, J Kidd just made it to 3rd all time 3Pters made.

Of the 3 guards I named, only Jordan got by without a dominant center. I mean he had serviceable guys and perhaps his best center was Cartwright but we all know who Magic and Kobe won with in the middle.

With the return of Mamba “Roll Call” 24 and utzworld - THE BANNER HOLDER, the Blog is whole again! “OUT FREAKIN STANDING…” AMEN!

mclyne - I'll tell you on the RC. But I am in the OC.

Utz - my bro from St. Lo...

A big AMEN...

Great to see you back...I hope you are feeling better..

LRob, 63footer, Mclyne
First born in L.A., Crenshaw High before Marcus Johnson and Wendell Tyler, Lakers fan back in the days of Leroi Ellis Happy Harrison, Lucius Allen, Sweet Lou Hudson, Cazzie Russell, Kermen Washington.
I watched Jerry, Wilt, Goodrich during the Championship year, But show time was the GREATEST TIME EVER. A close friend of mind Clay Johnson played a short time with the Lakers during Showtime, but it all changed.
Shaq was my all time favorite as a Laker and when Shaq was traded to Miami it all changed. I felt Kobe was the VENOM, CANCEROUS all about himself and Statists. Team wasn't in his VOCABULARY, only one letter "I", it's my team, it's about ME.
Became a Heat fan once I moved to Miami and Catered an event for Wade's Non-profit after they won the Championship, down to earth dude.
As far as Magic Johnson as the BEST EVER pg, I agree 100%. But Stockton is one of the BEST hands DOWN with no RINGS.

Mamba24 - can you please honor us with the 'REAL' Roll Call one hour before tip off...

It would be a great way to kick off the weekend...

Preach frmkt, Preach!!!!!!! Thank you sir and I think you got it about right with MJ. He never had a more than an average center, so as much as I hate the bald headed freak... I have to give him his props. Good post my brother.

Jammin with DJ LRob, it don't get no better than that!!!! How are you my brother? Did you get slammed by the storm?

Posted by: Mamba24 | January 14, 2011 at 11:37 AM

You're right, it doesn't get much better than Luther mixing in a little Sam. Not too bad far.

G.Money - thanks for the explanation of how you went to the 'dark side'...

LeBron is a very gifted athlete...but it's more about skills in NBA history...

as hobbitmage would say...

"The box scores don't show LeBron with any championships...and the stats never lie"

Mamba24,UTZ- Dude ....nice to see your both back, you were DEEPLY MISSED. I know you both feel the The KING is one of the GREATEST players in the GAME today, can I get a CO-SIGN?

Because you're fellow bloggers appears to have TUNNEL VISION.

@MVP - thanks for the 3peat research.

@G. Money - thanks for the insight. I knew it had to be something strange there. I remember Clay. He got a ring on one of the early 80's squad.

Sorry you left Lake show and missed out on two more chips. I don't want to rehash the whole Shaq-Kobe thing, but I will say all parties were to blame for how that ended. Dr. Buss, Phil, Kobe and Shaq.

Enjoy the ride with Miami. Who knows maybe we'll see you in June. What's going on with Mike Miller?

Mamba24,UTZ- Dude ....nice to see your both back, you were DEEPLY MISSED. I know you both feel the The KING is one of the GREATEST players in the GAME today, can I get a CO-SIGN?Posted by: | January 14, 2011 at 12:24 PM
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll give you a Freakin Co-sign!!!! Yes i'm not afraid to give lebron his props. Great player, yes Lebron is. One of the greatest of all-time...HELL TO THE NO!!!!!!! Good talking with you my brother, one more thing...I want you to Stop this ISH, Stop it right now and come back to Laker Nation where you know you belong!!!

Mamba24 - can you please honor us with the 'REAL' Roll Call one hour before tip off...It would be a great way to kick off the weekend...and PLEASE stay OUT FREAKIN STANDING!!!!Posted by: LEWSTRS | January 14, 2011 at 12:15 PM
No, No, NO! It is all yours now sir. I'll be glad to sub for you when you don't have the time but other than that...unless you don't want to do it, it's all yours my brother with best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check your Email again but first take a vodka and percoset. That is all...Carry On!

LRob- Miller's timing just not back, what I really thinks he needs is an inside present in the post. He would have been a great addition to the Lakers, he can't create his own shot. And teams are playing him close on the perimeter, but by playoffs his timing/outside shot should be on point.

Sorry To paraphrase a classic Big Band era song:

Sorry To paraphrase a classic Big Band era song:
NO RIIIIINGS!!! Posted by: utzworld - THE BANNER HOLDER | January 14, 2011 at 01:15 PM
Preach BANNER HOLDER, Preach!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@MVP888 - Bynum don't need no stinking test!!!

Posted by: LEWSTRS | January 14, 2011 at 10:37 AM

Why is tonight such a "good test" for Bynum anyway? Brook Lopez? He is having a sub-par season and it is Brook Lopez who will have to pass any "test" tonight, not Andrew Bynum, who is more gifted than Lopez both physically and talent-wise. Yeah, Lopez averages 18.2 ppg and (only) 5.9 rpg, but he's the Nets #1 option, whereas Bynum is the Lakers #2 or #3 option when he's on the floor. I dare say that Amar'e Stoudemire is twice the "beast" that Lopez is and Bynum passed THAT test with flying colors. He dominated the MVP candidate.

The only "good test" tonight is to see if the Lakers play with focus and spirit as a team. They need to run the offense, take care of the ball, rebound and play the same solid defense we saw against the Knicks.

HAVING SAID THAT, it should be more of a quiz than a test anyway.

MAMBA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND UTZ !!!!!!!!!!

@Utz - lol.

@GMoney - Hmmm Dorell Wright would look good in a Heat uni right about now. Too bad Riles and Wade didn't know they had a diamond that just needed a little polishing. Lakers wouldn't made that mistake.

Mamba24 - No one can replace you as the Roll Call/Bandwagon Master...

I will be like Lamar and go to the second unit...but always ready when my number is called...

Hope to see a 'real' Roll Call at 1 hour before tip off...

Go Bears!!!
Go Jets!!!
Go Lakers!!!

ShaSha was def a fan favorite so he'll get some love when he enters the game and I think he'll actually do well. He has NO pressure!!!

Jordie, he aiight. I just happen to be partial to ShaSha.

Overall, we will fool with the NEts the first quarter but I expect us to impose our will and beat they ass by 11-15 points.

LAKERMIKE, LAKERMIKE!!!! LOL!! Yes, once lakermike returned... AW hell yeah, you know The Chaplain and Mamba24 had to come back. How have you and the Mrs. been my brother?

LRob-Dorell is about to have a BREAK OUT season, that cat is starting to come into his own. Looking like a STUD, Big Shot after Big Shot. Pat was a FOOL to let him go.

utzworld - THE BANNER HOLDER - But today, is he one of the games GREATEST Players?

MrsLakerMike and I are great, especially with the stars all aligned with you, UTZ, JUSTA, LAKERTOM, JONK (her favs). [Although she and I did conflict a wee bit earlier this week when she went all soft and merciful late in the game versus the Cavs and was rooting for them to score!]

Add to the mix PLG, KOBEMVP, LROB, LEWSTRS, 63FOOTER, and my fellow seasoned magi EDWIN, I am re-energized for the second half of the season!

Headed out to coach my HS basketball team now...

Good luck with your high school team! If you ever need another assistant coach, please let me know. I'd love to volunteer for that. My NJB teams were always champions!

It's a good day to be on the Laker Blog. Mamba24 and Utz have made their return, there is some pretty good discussion going on (without the boo hoo boo hoo you misquoted me so I'm gonna throw some BS stats at you), and best of all....IT'S GAME DAYYYYYYY!

The wife is happy, kids are feeding me for once, and the Lakers are on the tube...Life is good.

Make us proud LakerMike, Make us Proud!!!!!

Mamba24, Utz you're back!

Justa, I love the way you flex your muscles, your just like HF Hutton, when you speak everybody listens! LOL

Now Mamba don't make me bring out the big stick, we need the roll call and we need it now!

Justa I meant you're just like E.F. Hutton, I'm so freakin overjoyed about the return of Larry and Utz, I'm brain dead and heart happy!

And now, my $0.02 on what I like to call "in-house bred trolls":

2 back to back championships have vanquished every enemy and troll who ever tormented us. Even our adversaries in Boston know that their taunts are fools gold in light of the busted 13 point lead heard/saw around the world. The brotherhood established here at LA Times Lakers Blog that was forged through the ashes of 2008 and cemented & solidifed through the triumphs of 2009 & 2010 has breeded a measure of contempt among (some of) us here. All this victory and celebration stoops to ponder one big question:

"What more can I say to you? I've done said it all! Ya heard it all" - Jay Z (performing "What More Can I Say" live in the film "Jay Z - Fade To Black")

And so this season has brought to us incessant rants about DFish's shots, Andrew's knee, Ron Ron's focus, PJ's coaching, Pau's "softness", Kobe's ballhogging and a bunch of other mularkey. And these rants aren't from our external trolls. As I said before, these trolls are INTERNAL - so called members of Laker Nation.

They rant. One of the Blog Patriarchs rebukes them and invokes the spirit of unity forged through the aforementioned back to back runs. They retaliate by going somewhere that even the regular trolls wouldn't dare go.

They go personal.

They insist that this blog should be about basketball and basketball alone. They berate MM for coming up with the foolish idea of doing Blog Profiles because personal stories has no place on a basketball blog. And when these so called Lakerholics attack, they use the info mentioned in our Blog Profiles, tidbits about our family, friends and personal struggles, etc.

They hate the camraderie. They hate our brotherhood. They despise unity and oneness. They are so broken that that cause trouble to get attention to themselves. And I, and too many others among La Familia, have taken their bait and retreated from our home because of fear of their venom & hatred.

We cannot let these haters disrupt our community. We must be wise and discerning. We must starve the whiners & ignore the constant complainers. They are fools. Argue with them and we'll get a fools' response. Heck...they aren't even LAKER FANS if you ask me! They may claim the Purple & Gold, but deep down they want to see D Fish miss a shot that gets us kicked out of the playoffs. They want Drew to have another knee injury so they can say "I told you so." They want PJ to make bad coaching decisions that cause us to lose our 3 Peat. They are not united with us. They are divided against us. They are never satisfied. They don't want peace. They only want to make trouble.

So what do we do, Laker Nation? WHAT DO WE DO?

Just got back to catch up. Forgive me if this has been done, but if not, this is dedicated to the return of Utz & Mamba24:

G. money - I can dig it; a geographical fan, root for your home team. Makes sense about the Heat/Laker love.
