Wizards will probably be short-handed against Lakers

Fabforum It looks like the Wizards will be without one of their leading scorers when they play the Lakers on Tuesday.

The Washington Post's Wizards blog reports that the Wizards were without their leading scorer, second-leading scorer and third-leading scorer at practice on Monday, as John Wall, Gilbert Arenas and Andray Blatche were all out because of various ailments.

Blatche's appears to be the most severe, with Coach Flip Saunders saying that the 6-11 forward is "probably out" against the Lakers with a swollen left knee. Wall has developed some soreness in his right knee, which Saunders said is probably the result of overcompensation from his left foot injury, and is "very questionable." Arenas is probable, with what the team is calling "general soreness."

Blatche also sat out because of a bruised hip when the Lakers defeated the Wizards last week, 115-108.

Look, we all know the Lakers aren't playing their best basketball right now. Luckily, it's December, and there's a lot of time ahead to tune it up. Let's get the real starting line-up back in effect -- with some time to get their act together -- and then we'll see what's REALLY going on.

And, when time's get tough, I like to remember this:

http://youtu.be/AphOnuzQ2D0

Because that, my friends, is what we play for.

Go Lake Show!

LRob,

Thank you for speaking out on my behalf and for chastising me.

The way kobes jumper was falling yesterday looks like hes slowly starting to get some lift in his legs.. Good thing cause I was starting to get really worried... But if anybody knows his body well its kobe himsef... Or maybe its mental knowing bynums around the corner and he won't have to carry pau's jockstrap anymore.

Other NBA news….

Phil saying refs are letting Pau get beat up.

Dissension in Charlotte. Me thinks Larry Brown should’ve appreciated Raymond Felton more.

What in the world happened to OJ Mayo’s game?

@hobbit - thanks for the info on Sterling. That's craaazy!

Team first, players second, Lakers forever, to quote one Jon K.,
"What do we play for? RINGS!"

Observations:

Pau is getting wailed on like a Hendrix solo. Hit after hit with the sustain pedal engaged and an envelope filter to give the low end some oomph.

-----

I love Kobe, but it is irksome when he calls out his teammates to "Play through that *&%#". Kobe...you often stop to complain. As I have said since pre-season I will not critique FGA or overall play because you have proved me wrong too many times. But as soon as YOU start playing through that *&^$%, than maybe the team will, too. They follow the leader and it's led to a ring or 5. Keep leading, don't sell out Pau for getting hammered like Lindasy Lohan.

-----

Can we just agree not to quantify our teams abilities to such simple word descriptors as "fast, tall, long, or Walton-esque?" OK, Walton-esque can stay (only because in my ind it also means MVP-esque or GOAT-esque)...but we all know Bynum is tall, that Lamar has long arms, and that Fisher is (in some Bloggers opinions) slow. I would argue that despite the step Fisher has lost he is still an effective PG for our team and he will prove it to y'all more than once. It just seems like so many of our spats center around whether or not a tall person or fast person would be better than the tall or fast person currently playing. Just a thought. Instead of tall, substitute "alpine", for "fast" try "hypersonic" or Treebeards favorite, "hasty". EXAMPLE: "I will often observe a hypersonic player making hasty decisions resulting in a turnover or terrible shot. Wish Old Man Fisher was in there to settle things down."

-----

Lastly...ish da holidays and we can order an-y-thing!

What up with the Don, hobbitmage? I missed it :-(

LRob - since you asked, my morning commute was a blast from the past.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnkYatAT7NE

I never know what's gonna play next on my iPod LOL!

@JAMF - TOO PSYCHIC!!!! I just threw in a Hendrix reference!!! Vulcan mind meld achieved or something, eh?

LRob,

this was written: Some fools (that will go nameless...) bring up stats regarding Laker players.

No Laker will put up the numbers on the deep and skilled team the Lakers are as opposed to being a more featured, prominent player of a lesser team.

Bringing up old stats from a particular game or series and relate it to other players on other teams (in which those players are sometimes the only star) really is missing the big-picture, or just lacking in smarts. Obviously, the Lakers have a lot of talent and depth, no single player will be putting up the numbers as compared to other teams with less goto guys and depth.

I just had to add that as certain people get fixated on stats and use them as a way to bludgeon Laker players without acknowledging that the Lakers are a deep team when fully healthy and aren't going to be putting up fantasy-league leading numbers simply because of the glut of talent the Lakers possess...

GO LAKERS!!!!!!

my response to you: So the next time you're sticking up for me. Kindly
catch this stuff too.

thx.

Isn't it just crazy that a fan who brings up D-Fish being 1-7 or Artest being 1-10

or Pau averaging 19/11 is missing the big picture?

I guess Phil Jackson is crazy when he starts to tell Artest not to shoot as
much or when he comments that shots were long. How crazy is it that Phil
Jackson actually pays attention to what goes into the stat sheet?

Crazy!

@Justa - Sounds like you had a great commute...as usual.

Jamie - LOL!! I saw that as soon as I posted. It could be Vulcan... or maybe just a blog-synch kinda thing. BTW - really enjoying your posts lately. Good stuff.

LRob,

Thank you for speaking out on my behalf and for chastising me.

NP

LRob - my commute is only about 5 or 6 minutes. EVERY commute is a good one cuz I never have to fight traffic AND my iPod is a musical wonderland LOL!

Hopefully drew can get some PT against the Wizzies, especially if two or three of their main peeps are out.

I am looking forward to what Drew can bring, whether he will or not is the question. Here's hoping for the best.

hobbitmage don't read this:

Bynum: "I'm definitely playing tomorrow."

@JAMF - Yeah, I've been a bit hectic and under the weather lately so I've been into the whole 'quality not quantity' trip, lately. Thanks for the pick me up!

Whoopsie doo! if the Wiz go without Arenas and Wall I can smell a Lakers romp coming. There'd be no contest tonight folks...

My prediction: Lakers 83, Wiz 82 (2OT)

You certainly are no fool, so I didn't think that was addressing you.

I enjoy seeing you guys debate. My only disappointment is when the name calling starts. But I'm not the blog policeman. (That's above my pay grade...lol). Again, I'll speak up if moved...but otherwise I'm staying out of it. I paid a little closer attention the last time as per your request.

Psycorp,

That's actually pretty funny.

Crazy?!? I was crazy once, they put me in a room-room full O rats-rats make me crazy! Crazy?!? I was crazy once, put me in a room, room full of rats, rats make me crazy...CRAZY?!!? I was...ad infinitum. Great at parties as soon as someone says the word, "crazy".

Also, when folks are debating the existence of angels, bring up the fact that you are, in all seriousness, a leprachaun hunter. Because, really, when you get right down to it it would be WAY better if leprachauns were real because when you catch one, BOO-YAA, pot O gold, baby!

@Psycorp - Yup, that sounds just about right...except that would be the double over time score!

Lets go Lake Show! Time for another W! :)

I'm so stoked fellow Laker fans! When Andrew Bynum comes back tonight against the Wiz, or tomorrow against Pacers or for that matter Friday against Sixers I guarrantee the Lakers will embark on a 40-game win streak.

That's what happens when Lakers get their best player with his 40 pt per game, 20 rebs per game, 8 block shots per game stats back from injury... Bynum will destroy the league and everything in his path not even Wilt Chamberlain in his best days were ever like this.

LOL.

after the Lakers 16th nba last year, AND another b2b title, i've approached this year with Lakers without panicking. Last year i fretted after each loss and could be quite negative and down with our beloved Lakers. they proved the naysayers wrong AGAIN last year after defeating the "much hated" celtics in 7 games. L.A., as you know started out of the gate this year pretty fast, grant it, the competition wasn't all that great! BUT, it's the nba and you can only play who they put in front of you! so then L.A. goes and loses 4 in a row, something we all thought we'd never see, especially in the "gasol era"! it definitely caused an uproar amongst the Lakers aficianados! speaking of pau, he's been slumping ever since the L.A. Times article came about him being a prime candidate for mvp. it's almost like the sports illustrated cover jinx! pau will be fine. yes, i think we've all called him ga-soft at times, including yours truly! once bynum gets back, the beatings will stop, hopefully. speaking of 'drew, the one thing i love about him....is gives out "hard fouls". i'm so tired of seeing point guards free-wheeling to the basket and no one on the Lakers putting a hard foul on anyone! will bynum be just what the doctor ordered, i certainly hope so, cuz L.A. is just squeaking by too many crappy teams out there, whereas other elite nba teams are blowing those same teams out! our next five games are very winnable, that's if the Lakers put forth the effort. anyhow, the 3 games to close out the year, miami on christmas day, san antonio on the 28th and the next night against a slumping new orleans teams. by the end of the month we'll know if L.A. can play against some of the nba's finest!

One thing that gets lost in the constant back and forth on the blog about the merits and value of Andrew Bynum is that we have never seen Drew and Pau together at full strength for any length of time. I recently went back into my old recordings and fished out the Christmas 2007 game. Lakers vs. Phoenix at Staples. Drew tore Amare a new one in that game. This was around the time that Kobe recanted from his demands to get rid of Andrew and declared that with Bynum, the Lakers were a championship level team. The injury to Bynum later that season compelled the team to trade for Gasol. We still have never seen Drew at full strength combining with Gasol.

With Pau as the team's principal big, the team has been to 3 straight Finals, winning 2. All that, without a completely healthy and active Bynum. My take is that I want to see just what a healthy Gasol and Bynum can do together. I remain convinced that their pairing will propel the Lakers to an even higher level.

Psycorp:Whoopsie doo! if the Wiz go without Arenas and Wall I can smell a Lakers romp coming. There'd be no contest tonight folks...

My prediction: Lakers 83, Wiz 82 (2OT)

ROFLMAO! Truly said for us ulcerous fans.

@psycorp -ignore my evident inability to actually read...le sigh.

Is Bynum playing tonight?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Very good point. I don't see any of the Lakers saying "don't worry, this is our practice season, we'll start caring in April" They all seem genuinely disappointed in the way they have been playing. If they really wanted to pace themselves, they could put these games away early and have Gasol and Kobe on the bench in the 4th quarter.

The Lakers are not currently playing like a championship team. There is plenty of time to turn it around so people aren't being doom and gloom when they point this out. It's not like anyone is saying they definitely won't win, some of just see some problems that need to be worked out.

To win championships, you have to beat good teams and so far, this Lakers team hasn't done that. They have yet to face most of their biggest tests. If they come out and have strong showings against teams like San Antonio, Dallas, Miami, Boston, etc, I'll no longer question the headscratching games like the Clippers, Nets, and Wizards. By strong showing, I don't even mean they necessarily have to win the games.

pau is playing the 5 and by nature, it's a physical spot to be in. that's the "meat" of the paint and that's why i suggest that pau go back to his 4 spot and allow lamar to be at the 5 until "who knows when" the spot is secured by bynum and ratliff.

i hope the wizards are depleted in order to give our starters some rest and more pt for the bench. i also hope that CP3 and it merry band of hornets put the "sting" on LeChump's beehive. man, i loathe that kid.

Why do people think we are playing tonight? The next game is TUESDAY night.

Bynum better be back or I will be severely dissapointed.

Jon K - Kevin Ding just tweeted (I know - it's the devil, but it's useful) that Socks is set to debut tomorrow. No game tonight.

Bay to LA

How wrong you are. Last year the Lakers won less than a handful of "statement" games during the practice season, yet they flipped the switch for the playoffs. Know-how trumps winning tough practice season games for an experienced, thrice championship tested team like these Lakers. That ain't sugar coating anything, that's fact.

Hey all!

Love it when I've not been on for a couple days, log on, scroll down and see my name in a post (outside of mamba's roll-call).

hobbitmage, when I've said something to you I've directed it to you by name. If you feel like you fit into the post above, then by all means, slot yourself in.

Personally, as I've said before, I respond to the posts and not the poster. I think it is all of our responsibilities though to call out the vile, insulting and personal attacks, as LEWSTRS did to ouchhhhhh a couple days back for instance.

hobbitmage, it's a shame you have developed such a negative fixation on our starting center, but that I could deal with. However, you seem to feel the need to call out those that are positive about him, those with the audacity to question what you write, or daresay actually praise him for his accomplishments thusfar in his young, injury-marred career.

It's like you take it personally, and have tried to elevate the debate the debate to encompass personal attacks. Several times recently you've done that.

Your post on Donald Sterling was great, real interesting stuff. I would've responded just to that, until reading above and now write this.

Oh well, anyways, gotta run out and get the kiddies from school. Just wondering if anyone knows if there has been any video posted from the Obama meeting.

GO LAKERS!!!!!!

Come on, KobeMVP, I know we're not going to agree on this but I've already said this numerous times. The Lakers beat teams in the playoffs that they beat in the regular season and they had HCA in every series.

Phoenix (3-1 in regular season, 4-2 in playoffs)
Oklahoma City (3-1 in regular season, 4-2 in playoffs)
Utah (3-1 in regular season, 4-0 in playoffs)
Boston (1-1 in regular season, 4-3 in playoffs)

That's 10-4 (.714) vs 16-7 (.696). The regular season winning percentage against those 4 teams is slightly BETTER than the postseason winning percentage, even though the postseason was played after the proverbial "switch was flipped".

The statement games you're talking about are the 1-3 record against Denver, 0-2 against Cleveland, 2-2 against the Spurs, 1-1 against Orlando, and maybe a few others. They did not have to play those teams in the playoffs. Obviously statement games are meaningless if you never have to play the team when it matters, but at this point, I guess I'm still assuming the playoff bracket is wide open.

somebody better feed Bynum the ball when he's in position, or else he will just be standing around for a few weeks. I hope a Kobe pass doesn't drill him in the face!

BTW isn't it more normal for the team's trainer to make announcements about player availability, rather than the player announce when he's ready?

Dear Phil, LO and Pau are only maximally effective on both offense and defense for 8-10 minute stretches. They both coast at times since they know they will be playing the entire qtr. Lets mix it up and get the bigs some rest!

Ever wonder about all the free stuff you see on the web? It appears like everybody wants to give stuff away for nothing, nada, zilch. But are these items truly free of charge? If so, how can these companies afford to give away all of these coupons and samples? It’s truly all about you, the consumer. We live in a very competitive world marketplace place. The internet has upped the ante in terms of who could be seen and heard via all with the mass media. Now companies need to make lots of noise and this is one way that can do it. One of the best place on the web is called "123 Get Samples" and get your free stuffs
