Laker girl profile: Brilane strives to be a well-rounded person

1011lg_brilane1

This is the fourth post of a weekly series that helps you get to know the Laker Girls (who, by the way, officially go by one name only).

Laker Girl name: Brilane

Hometown: Moreno Valley, CA

Years on the Laker Girls squad: 2

Area of Residence: Moreno Valley, CA

College/High School: Valley View High School/ University of California Riverside (UCR)

What prompted you to want to become a Laker Girl?: I have always loved dancing and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Lakers. Combining both of my passions has been a long time dream of mine!

What do you think stood out to the judging panel, about you, regarding your audition?: I feel that “Confidence” is key when auditioning! I smiled as much as possible and kept a positive attitude throughout the audition. I believe it helped keep my confidence level up.

What do you think makes a good Laker Girl?: Being a very well-rounded person. Not only are we expected to have a high level of dance ability, but as a Laker Girl, it is critical to be a good role model as well. We do this by helping out in the community and possess a positive attitude when we are out in the public. In addition, we should feel comfortable with public speaking and have the ability to work well with others. In other words, be a good team member! Being a good Laker Girl takes good time management, intelligence, ambition to always strive to be better, and of course…..a love for the Los Angeles Lakers team and fans!

What is your dance experience?: I have been dancing since I was about 4 years old and I have training in ballet, pointe, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, swing, flag, drill, etc….. In addition, I have been a dance instructor at a dance studio, danced for the Inland Empire 66ers, the Los Angeles Clippers, and now, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Favorite dance routine, while being a Laker Girl?: My favorite routine while being a Laker Girl is one that we perform to the song “In the Mood.”

Favorite uniform?: My favorite uniform is a two piece “purple mesh” uniform. The bottom is a skirt with ruffles and rhinestones!

Favorite Lakers Player(s)?: My favorite Lakers players are Kobe Bryant and Shannon Brown.

Favorite Laker Girl memory so far?: My favorite memory as a Laker Girl would have to be when the Lakers won the championship in 2010 against the Celtics at game 7!

What do you like most about being involved, as a Laker Girl, at local charity/community events?: It is such a nice feeling to be able to help out in the community! I love the interaction that we have with the fans, and witnessing the true excitement on everyone’s face when we get to meet them.

What would you say is your beauty secret?: Be confident and always wear a smile!

What diet/workout tips do you have?: As far as diet is concerned, I would say that it is important to limit your portions while eating and include as much fruits and vegetables in your daily intake every day! As for working out, I know I try to do cardio 4-6 days per week. (whether it is at the gym, being outdoors, hiking, swimming, bicycling, or walking my dog) I guess, I would tell everyone to try to find a workout that one really enjoys - so you will keep up with it and want to work out more often!

What are your Hobbies?: Aside from dancing - I enjoy hiking, swimming, painting, reading, fishing, yoga/pilates, and cooking.

Career aspirations?: I am currently in school working towards a degree to then become an elementary school teacher.

Good morning to you, sir, and thank you once again for an OUT FREAKIN' STANDING roll call on this beautiful Christmas Eve morning! Oops, Justa knows I love her. I did not mean to upset her. She put my fanhood on par with that poser, so I felt slighted. But I sincerely apologize to Justa. That one CLEARLY came across wrong. I grasp the concept of "can't we all get along?", but that ain't reality in Lakerland and never has been.

HAVING SAID THAT, this goes out to justanothermambafan as my peace offereing!

LRob - I was talking about BIG GAMES. Yup, Dirk Nowitzki also has better post versus regular season #'s: 25.6 vs. 23.0. But again: what constitutes a BIG GAME? The Finals. Everything else is gravy on the road there. For someone to always bring it in the BIG GAMES, then they must have shown it in the Finals. If you can't get to the the Finals, you don't bring it in the Big Games.

The Big O was one of the greatest players of all time in mine and many others' book, but he's NOT in the running for BIG GAME guys, like the Logo because he just wasn't in the Finals enough to show what he had (and when he got there, it was at the end of his career, unfortunately). Doesn't make him less of a great player, but someone said Lebron brought it to the Big Games, I use the Big O as an example of a great who cannot be considered to do that because he wasn't there.

To me, Lebron DOES NOT bring it in the Big Games. He brings it in games. He brings it big in some games. But he hasn't brought it in the BIG GAMES, or his HCA'd Cavs would have won the last two titles instead of the Lakers.

Even when the Logo lost, he brought it in the BIG GAMES (Finals MVP in a losing cause? No one else has done that).

The Xmas Day game is NOT a BIG GAME like the Finals, and so James may bring his A-game... but not in the Finals, and until he does, or single-handedly makes sure his team GETS to the Finals, then blows everyone out around him in losing the Finals, that's not going to change for awhile.

Or, he's gotta win some Rings and be THE MAN during the Finals. Again: not going to change for awhile.

That's all I meant.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Hobbit! When I was 20, my dog of 12 years was hurting so bad my Father told me it was best to put him to sleep soon. I came home from college one day and didn't see my dog in his usual place and Dad told me today was the day. The right thing to do, but cried like a baby.

Now this man is another true LakerHolic. I showed Roll Call to my daughter, she looked at it and said...Funny Daddy!!! THE HORROR!!!!!!

On a brighter note-GO LAKERS!

Ahhhhh Mamba in the morning - all's well with the world.

888 - we cool :)

hobbit - I'm so very sorry on the loss of your beloved pup. I'm virtually holding your hand.

I'm looking forward to the game tomorrow, because I'd like to catch a glimpse of the REAL Lakers. I would love to see consistent effort above all else. I recognize we're not at 100% yet, and are still integrating the team, but that shouldn't diminish the effort given on the floor. If they play hard and stay focused, I'm good. (But yeah - a good Scola or 2 on the princess will certainly turn things from 'good' to 'everything's all sunshiney' for me!) LOL!

Have a great day peeps!
