HAPPY NEW YEARS LAKERS NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELL YEAH!!! RCOTD = LAKER J = OUT FREAKIN STANDING!!!!!! KUDOS!!!!!!!

Miami may be ESPN's favorite but the Lakers are still the fans favorite. Last night was NO first sell out of the season. Yes, including the Heat game. Also, good to see the domination per Hornet coach Monty Williams. (From the Times-Picayune's John Reid article posted above)

I thought we were overwhelmed,’’ Hornets Coach Monty Williams said. “You can’t treat one game more than any other. With all stuff going on, we treated this like a big game. I sensed it early on that some of our guys were a bit overwhelmed.

“They are at a different level, but that shouldn’t mess with your intensity and how you play defense.’’

Congrats Laker J!

Thanks LRob! Let that be a lesson once and for all to Lakers Nation that every game that the Lakers play is like a Finals game to the other teams in the league. Now do you really think The Lakers are in shape to play an addittional 82 Finals games a year? So there are going to be some ups and downs. It comes with being the Freakin 4 Dynasty, 16 time NBA back-to-back Champions!!! Carry On!

For those who prefer Larry Brown's coaching style over Phil's.....see comments below from Charlotte players....hmmm, sounds as if they feel like they just got out of jail now that coach Brown is gone:

"It's a good feeling knowing the coaches are allowing you to use your brain and make basketball plays and not be sort of a robot out there," Jackson said.

Added Augustin: "Before, we were trying to run the play all the way through and getting shot clock violations and guys were just standing. Now guys are getting open shots and taking them."

I’M ON BOARD UNTIL THE TRAIN COMES OFF THE TRACKS…AND THE ONLY TRACKS THAT
COUNT ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS – BANDWAGON
*________________________________________________________________________*
(01) CORNER-J – OWNER - So here's the deal. We true Laker fans are sticking by this team and this coach...no matter what. Maybe their time is indeed over...but maybe it isn't. And you better pray that you're right. Because if our STILL WORLD CHAMPION LOS ANGELES LAKERS do get it together, there is going to be some serious payback happening...both in the playoffs, and on this blog. . I'm on board until the train comes off the tracks...and the only tracks that count are in the playoffs. Carry on, my friends.
"
(46) ISSANG - sometimes we expect to win every game; but there is no fun in winning all games in the regular season. we tend to forget that almost half of the team are newbies.i have faith in the LAKERS. i will continue to believe until my last breath.
(47) EASTCOASTJESSIE - Our boys are going to get it together. Biggest difference last night...they were just having fun.

Awww thanks Mamba...man finals kicked my butt this semester and I got rear-ended last week by some moron and have been laid up with a fractured neck. I'll be on more often...promise! Hope you have a great new year too! Luv ya!

@JAYDEN24… “Andrew "the beast" Bynum - see LakerTom for this one. I'll just say this. 18 points and 6 rebounds. And perhaps the best stat by any Laker thus far, 30 MINUTES of action for Baby Bynum tonite on a back to back nite. This is officially the best indicator that Bynum's knee is ok. Once he gets in shape and his timing and explosiveness returns, good things are coming Laker fans. You can take that to the bank.”

Great post, Jayden. Like I’ve been consistently proclaiming, Drew transforms the Lakers from an elite team to a dominant team. Even the Hornets announcers were commenting on how much Drew changes everything for the Lakers. And Lamar off the bench was the game MVP.
………………………..
@BRONXLAKERFAN… “I loved how Drew turned the corner and tried to throw it down on his old buddy Mbenga. Haven't seen Bynum make a move like that in a long time. I hope the big fella can keep building on the positive things he's showing.”

Even though he missed the dunk, that was a great move by Drew and the second time he’s tried it since he came back. Slowly but surely, we are going to see a Beast emerge to help Kobe lead the Lakers to another three-peat. Next to Kobe, Drew is the Lakers most indispensible player.
………………………..
@ISLAND PRIEST… “I can't believed that people were saying to trade Bynum. Yeah trade him if you don't want a chance of winning another ring. Bynum is big and he is strong and he is the only one that Perkins respect physically on the Lakers team and not the skilled but soft Gasol. He was hobbled in the Finals but without his minutes the Celtics would have crushed us. Good game Andrew "The Beast" Bynum but I want to see some more rebounds. I believed I coined his moniker first.”

It was great to see some “beastly” play from big Drew. I thought he played with great calm and composure all night long. You could still see the cobwebs on a few moves but for the most part Drew was active and had a huge impact at both ends of the court. There is no team in the NBA who can handle Kobe Bryant and the Lakers front court trio of Drew, Pau, and Lamar.
………………………….
@RICK FRIEDMAN… “Now, if only Pau can look as happy as the rest of the team after a W.” Interesting observation.

Actually, I think the best thing that can happen for Pau is for Drew to really pick up his game and threaten Pau’s position as the team’s #2 player. That is what may finally light a fire under the Spaniard’s ass and get him to start playing with heat and passion. Drew seemed to have a newfound sense of calm confidence last night that could be signs of even greater things to come. The key now for him will be staying consistent and healthy.
………………………….
@NEWMEXICOLL… “Laker Tom...Bynum is coming along just fine and at the right time!!You can tell when the Trolls start getting nervous [131-92] they start rambling on and take pot shots[UTZ]!! Mamba24..The wheels will never come off our bandwagons cause we believe!! Go Lakers!!”

LOL. You had to know that I had a huge smile on my face when I tuned in and heard that Drew was going to start. Proof that Phil has been reading the blog and CCX’s and my posts.
………………………….
@83-79… Glad to hear that KG’s injury is not serious. I never like to see any player – even a over-the-hill psycho like Garnett – get injured. And we definitely want you to be at full strength when we take #17 from you so Doc and the Beantown losers don’t have any excuses.
………………………….
TOM

Phil raised an interesting point about N.O. being owned by the league.
If C. Paul demands a trade and multiple teams make offers who is going to decide what is the best deal?
Hopefully not Stern or Paul may be Miami bound.

ECJ - WHAT??? A fractured neck????

Holy crap - you ok???

Jeez - here we've been worried and stressing about the Lakers lately, and you've been dealing with a fractured neck?? Puts things into perspective in a flash, doesn't it?

So sorry, my friend, for your suffering. I truly hope you're feeling better and won't suffer ill-effects from this.

Wow! Princess i'm so sorry to hear that! You take care of yourself you know you got the Laker Nations Prayers.

Thanks Mamba, yeah it sucks but I'm a bit better now. Those damn pain meds had me hallucinating about the Lakers 30th championship...and Kobe playing 'till he was 50, it was awful. LOL I was hoping to win Ron Ron's ring so I could sell it and get me a new car :-)

Definitely not worried about my boys though, they always pull it together. Every year we have these bumps in the road and we turn out just fine. The ones who need to be worried are the Spurs who wear out Duncan in the first half of the season and Miami seems to be ding the same...you think Wade and James are gonna average triple doubles and get 40/night all the way through June....pffft!!!! We got this babe, no worries!

@East Coast Jessie - Hoping you have a speedy recovery...prayers are with you.

@Laker J - congrats on RCOTD.

@ECJ… Sorry to hear about your auto accident. What a bummer way to end the year. You’ll be in our prayers to recover quickly and settle for big bucks. Wouldn’t want to drive in the East. Glad the Lakers were able to cheer you up. Look for more good vibes now that Drew is back.
………………………….
TOM

Thanks LakerTom and LRob, much appreciated. Definitely not a good way to end the year but I'm looking forward to a better one in '11. Thanks again!

there was one play where drew made a basket and ran down court. the close-up showed him appearing to wince. as it turns out he was annoyed at a teammate not being in the right position and was letting him know as much.i guess there will not be much conversation about drew for a while.i hope kg is not out for the year. it felt sick to watch him as he was going up . i don't want any excuses when "da boys" kick ass on the celts and the " big underachiever" is forced to watch kobe win another ring.

Thanks LRob, 63 Footer, Mamba24 and, of course, Mr. Medina.

I truly hope this is the beginning of a series of wins and good basketball from our Lakers.

Did not get to see last nights game. sucks being a Lakers fan and living on the east coast. anyway, from the few highlights I have seen, the team looked more relaxed, passing was on point, that one shot from Lamar was crazy, etc. This is the type of play I like to see.IMO it's okay to lose now and then, but not in the manner we where loosing games. hope we are back on track...

@EastCoastJessie, I see that even a severe accident can't supress that LakerHolic SWAGGER!!! Go on with your Bad Self Princess!!! Lol!

LakerJ FTW!! Congrats on winning the coveted Friedman Award!

I agree - Socks looked GREAT! Rusty? Sure. But GREAT to have him back. It makes such a huge difference for us to have him in there to start the game.

Lamar is unbelievable this year. All the "potential" we've seen in him and have been talking about for so long has finally been put on display for the world to see. Now all y'all who've been talking about him not doing anything or wanting to trade him are seeing EXACTLY what Kobe and Phil have known was there (and me too LOL)!! His energy and skills - regardless of in the starting line-up or coming off the bench - are a joy to behold, not to mention him being such a match-up nightmare for the competition. This man deserves an All-Star berth. SAY QUEENSBRIDGE LOL!!!

GO LAKERS!!

@ECJ
My family will be praying for your speedy recovery.

@LakerJ
Congrats on the Friedman! The beast was unleashed!

See, a shake up in the lineup is just what we needed! I'm so glad L.O. didn't pout- he came out firing on all cylinders! L.O.'s consistancy and the return of a healthy Bynum will be our biggest advantages once the real season starts.

Sad to see K.G. go down again, but on the other hand, now we can make up some much needed ground on the Septics. They are the only team that I feel we need HCA over. I hope K.G. has a nice long rest on the bench and his team goes on a losing streak.

Miami is looking scary good, for now.

I wonder how much Phil will be fined for his comments about NOLA.

It's only one win, but this could be the one that starts a nice, long streak.

ECJ - no worries! Justa get well soon. The team needs a little EC swagger LOL!

Thanks mclyne!

Lol thanks Justa...always got my Laker swagger, even if it's a little lopsided at the moment :-)

now that he most likely will now come off the bench, i think it is important to keep lo in the conversation for all-star. his ebbs and flows have hidden for many not paying attention what an amazing baller he is. i thought it great that he scored off the bench as he did, and i really don't care if pj dosen't like it but you saw the swagger in lamar on that magicesqueplay which has been missing in the laker persona as of late.

ECJ...Nothing perks one up better than a beat down by the Lakers. You hang in there and have a much better New Year!! NOTHING can hold us LAKERHOLIC'S down.

My first music selection of the day- I was going to go with "Back in Black," but I decided to choose "It's a Long Way to the Top If You Wanna Rock and Roll."

We are still on a long journey back to the top of the mountain, but we are back on track baby!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1iR2Wi3u5o&feature=related

You can say that again NewMexicoLL...with the 76ers and the Grizz coming up, the should be starting a new streak.

@LAKERJ… Congrats on another Friedman. Hope you are planning on installing a bigger virtual mantle to hold all those virtual awards. I think Phil did see CCX and my comments about starting Drew. It was the change and spark we needed to get the fires burning again.

I am not sure why Fisher is listed as PG. He seems to be more fit into SG position. He is shoot-first guard and rarely has assists.

What a nice vibe on here today. Nothing like a solid road win to serve as a healthy dose of TrollBeGone. (That or MM is filtering overtime)

Great to see Drew showing some solid inside presence last night. Nice efficient effort by Kobe, even though he's hurting far more than he's letting on.

And Lamar! What more can be said about the turnaround this guy made this season. Not in brilliant play (he's always had flashes of that), but the only thing lacking in his game: consistency. And that behind the back flip shot follow up dunk - PLAY OF THE YEAR!

Lamar, ASG or bust bandwagon needs to get rolling again.

*_________________________________________________________________________*
LAMAR ODOM ALL-STAR GAME OR BUST – NO LO ALL-STAR NO PEACE !! BANDWAGON
*_________________________________________________________________________*
*Time and time again, Jerry West read critiques of Lamar Odom's play and became more
agitated with the commentary. "He's one of the most underappreciated players on
this Laker team," West said. "When I see the press get on him for not scoring, that's not
who Lamar Odom is." James Worthy looks at Odom's 14.9 points on 58.5% shooting
(fifth-best shooting percentage in the league) and 10.8 rebounds (eighth best in the league)
a game and concludes his experience in the 2010 FIBA World Championships increased
his aggressiveness. "I really think Lamar Odom has wanted to be an All-Star and to be
recognized as an All-Star," Worthy said. "I think this year is a good chance for him by playing
overseas Internationally, coming back in great shape and having a great start, I think the voters
will think heavily about him."
*_________________________________________________________________________*
(01) HTJ - OWNER - But on a happier note, how about that Lamar? Finally playing ball like
we'd hoped 5 years ago. 16.6/11.4/3.6/1stl. Sounds like an all-star line to me. And that's a
bandwagon you can throw me on. LO - All Star Game or Bust!
(02) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – CO/OWNER- Alright - can someone please explain why
I'm not the owner, driver and manager of the Lamar for ASG and 6th Man of the Year
bandwagons?? What's a girl gotta do to get a post about LO read around here? I've been on that
bandwagon since he BECAME a Laker. Geez...
(03) MAMBA24 – DRIVER - Keep on Ballin LO you'll get there!
(04) 63 FOOTER – RIDING SHOTGUN - LAMAR ODOM ALL-STAR OR BUST BANDWAGON - hey,
I've been riding that little red wagon for a long time. But now, with the Worlds, I think more people
will take a look at him, and maybe the All-Star coach'll reward his efforts.
(05) JEFE101 - As far as Odom's All-Star Quest goes, "Get out of my way Saturn!"
(06) CYBERCOSMIX - L.O. all-star bandwagon: Absolutely L.O. should/will be an all-star! The Lakers should match the 4 all-star count of the '98 team (Shaq/Eddie/Nick/Kobe). How about Kobe/Pau/Drew/L.O. in 2011! Not only will L.O be an all-star, but 6th Man of the Year!!!!!
(07) DON’T BLAME DEL HARRIS - Lamar Odom. All-Star. Nuff said.
(08) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - Now - just watch LO. Watch him with the starters, watch him with the bench. He's leading, he's running, he's decisive and excited. If LO is happy and able to play to his natural skills and persona, I think the team is happy. There's a lot of good that come's with team chemistry.... While D-Fish is still my #1 fave, LO is gaining momentum. And I certainly wouldn't have said that 3 years ago. But then again after D-Fish, I love the whole team and would have a hard time ranking all of them. Funny how that happens
(09) MAGIC PHIL-
(10) LAKESHOWINPHX - L.O. will be the next laker to get a triple double. all is good in LAKERDOM!
(11) KB2FOE - I feel like I'm on an episode of the classic tv show Wagon Train! L.O. all star? GIDDY UP!!
(12) LAKERFANINCOWTOWN - LO deserves his due - He's an all star this year or the voters need their heads checked!
(13) D(EREK) J(ETER)
(14) ROSS - LO was FIBA great & shows signs of keeping it up! If he does he will be an all star & also win the sixth man
(15) LROB - Yep I'm down with the Lamar All-Star bandwagon. We've been waiting for this LO for a long time. Now that LO's polished up his act and showed he's got the knack He's ready for the Big Time...so says fellow New Yorker Rick James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbWqX8cdnfk
(16) LAKERJ - After PLG's post I'm on the banwagon. LO=All-Star.
(17) MCLYNE - Please add me to the LO allstar bus as well
(18) NEWMEXICOLL - Without LaMar on our team we wouldn't be the great team that we are, or have been. He's SO unselfish, and just think the stats he would have if he wouldn't have deferred all those years. The Gold Medal has given him so much confidence and it really shows. Always been an LO lover!!!
(19) JACKIE - Lamar would be entertaining in the allstar game. He has good playground moves we never get to see
(20) EDWIN GUECO - am one of harshest critic of LO in the past but this year I have all praises on Lamar except for the Denver game. He rebounds, facilitates, shoots, slashes and a semblance of defense in the post. He is most qualified - more than an All Star. He should be part of the Olympic team in 2012.
(21) GINDC(AKA GDUB) - liked what both JWs had to say about LO...he definitely should get serious consideration for the AS team based on his play thus far...and Shannon as well.
(22) YELLOW FEVER - actually i change my mind... sorry lamar... big game james also contributed to many of our rings so wouldnt be fair to him...therefore i change my vote and i now defer to big game james..
(23) NOOB TUBER - yellow, i defer my vote to you …
(24) OUCHHHHH - 65 days, 65 votes for LO put me on the band-wagon @ #24
(25) ROCKY - There is no doubt that Lamar should be an All Star this year. What he's been showing
for the last 2 1/2 years is excellence and it's about time he's rewarded for it. He's even gotten better
since he got married to Khloe too. Khloe is a good woman.
(26) FAN OF THE MAMBA -Put me on the Lamar bandwagon !
(27) MCLYNE - LO deserves to be an All-Star this year!!! He is focused, a beast on the boards,
scoring, playing D, and in better shape than anyone else on the team right now.

We are back to fair weather in LA, the rains are gone and Lakers are back on the winning mode. The next three games will be home, enough to say that they can take care of business against Sixers, Grizz and Pistons. If taken lightly, they could imitate the Bucks, so Lakers must continue the intensity done last night against CP3 or against the Pacers on the road. These are what you call redemption games to find the winning form and capitalize it.

Now the so called trolls as often referred by lakerholics who wanted to trade everybody...give them credit than blame them. The media participated too in dissecting the Lakers dilemma. Do you call them trolls? If Phil and the players truly read this blog, don't u think they also considered those suggestions and may have been scared that if they didn't right the ship, it could really happen. It is carrot and stick theory, you reward an employee when he does a good job and threaten a layoff if he becomes expendable in the enterprise. Don't you experience that in the workplace? I would not also blame 131 for coming to this blog, he contributes and provides spices that makes this blog palatable to read representing both side of the equation. What are dangerous are those who don't make any opinions but just plain trouble makers or engaged in intrigues (similar to Rasputin & Vichy France in world history).

Hey guys we got a new post up!

@htj
That's what I'm talking about. Lamar deserves his place in the spotlight for his EXCELLENT play this year!

Mamba24, you know what to do!

I thought the mention of the possibility of NOLA moving particularly interesting when the potential destinations came up last night during the game. Anaheim being one of the cities mentioned, could definately support a NBA franchise.
I still don't know wht the Clippers never decided to move south- must be another Sterling blunder. There are plenty of basketball fans in Orange County, a great stadium, as well as plenty of money in this area to support a team. I sure hope this happens so I can have two Southland teams to root for- of course the LAkers will always be my favorite!

GET WELL SOON EAST COAST JESSIE – BANDWAGON
*_________________________________________________________________________*
I got rear-ended last week by some moron and have been laid up with a fractured neck. yeah it sucks but I'm a bit better now. Those damn pain meds had me hallucinating about the Lakers 30th championship...and Kobe playing 'till he was 50, it was awful. LOL I was hoping to win Ron Ron's ring so I could sell it and get me a new car :-) I'll be on more often...promise! Definitely not a good way to end the year but looking forward to a better one in '11. Thanks my Laker family! Your prayers are appreciated. Hope you all have a Happy New Year!

(01) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – OWNER - ECJ - WHAT??? A fractured neck???? Holy crap - you ok??? Jeez - here we've been worried and stressing about the Lakers lately, and you've been dealing with a fractured neck?? Puts things into perspective in a flash, doesn't it? So sorry, my friend, for your suffering. I truly hope you're feeling better and won't suffer ill-effects from this.

(10) 63 FOOTER - Get well ECJ - injuries and sick suck.
(11) BRONXLAKERFAN - @EastCoastJessie...I'll be praying that the New Year brings you a return to health and better fortune. Get well soon!!

@ECJessie....

ALL of the main streets are clear but the side streets in the outer boroughs are still unplowed to a large degree. Our Emperor (Mayor Bloomberg) is catching a lot of flak for the poor response of city services. I'm doing as little driving as possible, leaving Betsy in the garage. Most people in NYC can't drive when conditions are good, much less in the aftermath of a huge snowstorm. LOL!

I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish all my family at Lakersblog a safe and healthy New Year.

17 in '11!!

Congrats Laker J on hoisting the coveted Friedman!!

LO is All "around-do-everything-as-starter-and-reserve" Star.

This is for Larmar...

Rotation

The ripples of the Andrew start were all good. LO continues to have the best season of his career. When Kobe and Pau rise to Kobe and Pau level, it will be all gooder.

Can't get too excited about shooting 60% and winning. This team is still capable of playing as bad as the last 3, but you gotta like the view of the future with the change in the lineup.

Mamba24...What a great time for some LO love and props!!!!!!!I really hope he is an All Star this year!!The coachs surely can see what he does for our team and vote him in. Kobe and DHoward are still leading the All-Star voting!! Drew is right up there too!

So I now found the reason why the Lakers lost 3 in a row..

Hello Mclyne, happy new year,

"I still don't know wht the Clippers never decided to move south- must be another Sterling blunder. There are plenty of basketball fans in Orange County, a great stadium, as well as plenty of money in this area to support a team."

~~this has been suggested so many times by LA scribes to Don and it reached deaf ears. He is lurking around at Lakers and waiting for the demise of the Lakers or Jerry Buss then it takes over the City. I don't know whether LA is ready to accept his team. Actually, he uses the Clippers as his tax write off on several properties in LA and also a boost to his promotional charitable ads that works hand in hand with his several businesses from law office, to bldg owners and real estate hoarder from foreclosed properties.

Hey Laker Fam,

Grad School has been kickin my butt!

But I've kept up with the last few games via DVR. Oh my!

Glad to see Drew back. Kobe's still a warrior and doesn't give a crap what any of us think, cause he knows what it takes to win and trips to 3 straight finals with 2 rings backs him up. Still, the last few games have been really ugly for Kobester and the Lakers.

LO is an Allstar!
Pau is a girl (just kidding)
Fish is slow, smart, cluth and waiting for the playoffs to shut us up again! hahahahahaha!
Kobe needs some new fingers and a lot more respect from the refs.
Ron is still the best defensive forward in the league not LBJ as Van Gundy contends.

Mamba 24 thanks for putting me on the East Coast Jessie bandwagon! I take my job as security seriously.

ECJ-sending you positive vibes for a quick and complete recovery!

Regardless of what it looks like now, the Lakers will be in the finals again in June 2011!

Happy New Year to everyone!

That is all!

Finally LO realizes that his job off the bench is to be agressive and score. He has always been an excellent rebounder, and passer but now he needs to lead the team when Kobe is sitting and push the ball and shoot more.

I just wish the guy would develop an inside game, the fadeaway was a good shot, but I'd love to see more of this.

What I would really love youall is to see the champs feature the fastbreak 10 times per game, whenever LO rips a rebound and is at half-court in 2 or 3 dribbles, there s/b a couple of the killer B's in front of him to take the pass (preferably Blake who is a great passer)

LO needs to realize he is the #1 scoring option when Kobe is on the bench. When Pau is in the game at center and against a bruiser, I still think LO is the #1 option. Blake should figure out a way to make LO score. When Pau at center against a shorter center, then he is 1st option.

By the way - what got into Fish? Did someone tell him that he should be a playmaker too and pass to people in shooting position. Imagine if Fish had 5 assists per game...money!! Keep preaching Phil!!

Clippers are staying put because quite simply, Sterling is making money; he doesn't care about winning.

Lakers looked good last night and two concerns: the turnovers - which cost them points - so if they do that against an elite team, it spells another lost and AB's ability to remain on the floor for the duration of the season. It should be obvious by now that the team NEEDS an effective "5" to remain in contention. Without it, we are doomed and I'm sure the FO is doing there best to solidify that spot.

Let's hope that Drew's mind is right and he is doing everything to keep his knees healthy. It's a time consuming process which means it will take him away from activities he enjoys doing more. Those knees need to be iced, massaged, worked out in rehab sessions, rested and ready for game day. All the work to keep those knees healthy happens after practice and the game. Just do it Drew and you just might find yourself with regular and finals MVP awards. Yep, he can be that good!
