Six Lakers are named on the NBA All-Star Ballot
It's often said that any player on the Lakers roster could start on any NBA team. Well, it turns out that any Lakers starter has the chance to play on the NBA All-Star team.
Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Derek Fisher and even Andrew Bynum were listed on the 2011 NBA All-Star ballot.
Here's the full list of players who appear on the ballot. Voters select two guards, two forwards and one center in each each conference. The starters will be announced live on TNT on Jan. 27. Fans can vote at NBA.com and by cellphone by texting the player's last name to 69622 (MYNBA). The 120 players on the ballot were selected by ESPN.com's J.A. Adande, TNT play by-play announcer Marv Albert, NBA.com's Art Garcia, Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears, the Toronto Star's Doug Smith and Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen.

Ugh, the dreaded re-post:
I don't care if Bynum doesn't suit up until March. I want him healthy for the games leading up to the REAL season, and I want him fully healthy and ready to dominate the paint from April to June. That's all I care about. All-Star dreams be damned... this is about winning, and I want to see our boys take home the only prize that matters after beating the Celtics in five IN BOSTON.

Bryant and Gasol are locks and Gasol has a shot of getting a starting position. Lamar if he continues his production has an outside shot as a reserve. Ron and Derek are unlikely to make it. Andrew has to really explode in December and January to convince voters beyond the Laker fan base.

@MVP – understood...now on to the next case...lol
@LakerJ – Magic would love to be a piece of Piston ownership. Unfortunately I don’t think Mr. Ilitch (if/when he takes over) is looking to bring in additional partners.
@Justa - Jay Z and JD…a nice jam to bounce with.
@63Footer – Matthew Crenshaw – Impressive. Still sounding good...or maybe that's my hometown bias...lol
Posted by: LRob | November 18, 2010 at 03:31 PM
LRob - I still think Marshall Crenshaw's first album was one of the great rookie albums of all time (along with the Pretenders and Elvis' first, as well). He still keeps writing good songs (and I like the one Gin Blossoms song he co-wrote), but he's never done THAT before.
Posted by: 63 Footer | November 18, 2010 at 03:35 PM
oosp, should have said "before or since."
DFish on the ballot - good for him, but Lamar... he needs an All-Star pick. Maybe Kloe and the rest of the K's will rally the troops and promise more rasty nakedness if everyone votes for Lamar. (Just a thought....)
Now we know what Drew's going to be doing instead of rehabbing: stuffing the ballot box.
I kid, I kid!

KobeMVP888 - I got no problem with Pau continuing on this path to greatness. One thing that rarely gets mentioned is that he "fits" well with Kobe. It's hard to fit with a mega-superstar and shine yourself. It can be done, but it's always a hit-or-miss thing, and I wouldn't trade Pau for anyone in the league right now in that sense. His skills, his passing, his attitude, his BB IQ, all make him a perfect fit with Kobe. I don't think Dirk and Kobe would fit well. I'm not sure Melo and Kobe would be more effective. Kobe's a tough one.
Everyone fit around Magic because of his unique skill-set and size, etc., but Kobe is not so easy. It's why Lamar and Ron Ron are so great... they tailor their game to work around Kobe's. Mesh is a funny thing, and that's why Jerry & Mitch at GM are so great. They think about that sort of thing.

MM,
Perhaps you're moving up in the world!
You are quoted in this article on Yahoo Sports:
Kobe Bryant's catching flak for that 'Call of Duty' ad
"But again, as I wrote when the spot debuted, I'm not at all surprised that people would have a negative reaction to its contents, Kobe's participation in it or all of the above — Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times and Matt Moore of CBSSports.com each raised objections to the commercial, with Medina arguing that the ad "downplays the seriousness that real combat entails" and Moore taking issue with the absence of content "that really shows the traumatic effects of war."

And for the whiny anti-Kobesters trying to get a dig any way they can -- didn't Call of Duty break a bunch of 5-day sales records? How many shoes did Lebron's nacisistic commercial sell? Not $650 millions worth I betcha.

My thoughts on this whole Pau thingy...
He is a very good player. He is a highly skilled player. He is a perennial all-star. But he is not a dominant player like the all-time great that Ricky is comparing him to. Seriously, Moses Malone would have easily outplayed Pau. I don’t like doing this because it makes it look like I’m knocking one of our current players. But the facts are Pau was 0-12 in playoffs games before joining the Lakers.
Posted by: LRob | November 18, 2010 at 04:12 PM
Fish and Bynum getting the nod? Weird. I'm proud of them, but Bynum hasn't even played this year and Fish hasn't had huge numbers. I guess Fish's "intangibles" have even helped him get onto the ballot.
Kobe and Pau are a lock. I sure hope L.O. and Artest make it as well. Ron-Ron for his excellent performances in last year's playoffs and Lamar's new found consistancy this year.

Kobe is not the reason Call of duty sold that many but he may have a little to do with it. Its a very popular game and hasnt sold MUCH more than the last call of duty to come out. Im ok with giving Kobe the credit since he is getting so much flak for even being in the commercial. People need to get a life and realize the game is for adults not for kids. Kids CANT buy the game so in what way is kobe saying its alright for kids to use guns. People dont research before they start freaking out. I feel it was wrong of ESPN to air the Commercial on their channel and their website then completely Bash kobe and pretty much blame him for death from guns. That guy even said he was smiling and dressing like a kid that kills. The USA has been getting a lower average IQ for years. Its the governments fault for releasing "Chemtrails" above the USA population

or it is just political to make Fish a warmar part in the Stern negotiations?
Posted by: ouchhhhhhhh | November 18, 2010 at 04:19 PM
Fisher's on the ballot because he is a starter. If memory serves, typically just about every starting player and even some bench players are listed. That being said, I'm not sure why Paul Millsap would have been left off.
Outside of a few laker faithfuls and Derek Fisher himself, of course, I think most of us agree that his spot shouldn't be punched out too many times.

Posted by: KobeMVP888 | November 18, 2010 at 04:10 PM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He still has to go past Dirk,Melo (if he isn't traded by then), Durant, Tim Duncan since those 4 are locks and will face competition from LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin (his team sucks but he is damn good), Luis Scola, Zach Randolph for the remaining slots and Beasley if Beasley continues his tear in Minnesota.
Then if Gasol is voted as a forward only rather than F/C then Odom has more competition.
Not to mention Bynum's return will make Lamar return to the bench and since the Lakers tend to feed Bynum to get him involved instead of a bystander that takes touches away from LO.
An outside shot is good but then again LO has to remain consistent AND those guys have to really flounder for LO to have more than an outside shot.

that was the cynical remark a non-cultured LakerTom made about me. in his head "artists" write literature. more exactly he thinks he writes literature when he is blogging. so his conclusion is that one can not be an "artist", even if "self -proclaimed", if they don't write literature on the Lakers Blog. maybe he did not read what Beuys had to say. (my question to you was a joke and the sarcasm font towards him was in ultra black).

Excellent points, although I would personally put him a head of a number of those players with the season he's having. I'm just thinking that IF he continues this consistent play, he's more than an outside shot because the game is being played at Staples Center AND people took notice of his leadership and contributions in the Worlds AND it's about time he's recognized for the talent he is. Anyway, you should know by now how I feel about exhibition games.

Thinking about the selection of centers for the West makes me realize how injury-plagued the position has been this year. Yao, Bynum, Oden, Kaman . . . Come the All-Star break, gotta hope there'll be a center or two left WITHOUT a break.

i'm wondering if PJ does not want to tank a little this part of the season so he won't have to coach the all star team. we all know that he hates that.
at the same time, with the Game in LA it will make it easier for him to feel it palatable. especailly that he can have maybe 3 Lakers on the team. third-guessing the Zen Master.

Well, aren't the HATERS out in numbers on this site. Who the hell cares what happened in 2008? How long had Pau been on the team at playoff time? Allstars tend to come from teams where they are the #1 option...or #2 option at worst. Lamar is #3 on the Lakers right now, but....they are the two time NBA champs thanks to his efforts in conjunction with the best player in the game and the best BIGMAN in the game. LO belongs on the Allstar team, but he'll be fine taking a three day vacation and just attending the game as a fan if thats the way it works out. Come next June, or whenever it is that his long-ass season ends, Lamar will be on the NBA Championship team once again....and you haters can get ready for next season.
