Six Lakers are named on the NBA All-Star Ballot

It's often said that any player on the Lakers roster could start on any NBA team. Well, it turns out that any Lakers starter has the chance to play on the NBA All-Star team.

Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Derek Fisher and even Andrew Bynum were listed on the 2011 NBA All-Star ballot.

Here's the full list of players who appear on the ballot. Voters select two guards, two forwards and one center in each each conference. The starters will be announced live on TNT on Jan. 27. Fans can vote at NBA.com and by cellphone by texting the player's last name to 69622 (MYNBA). The 120 players on the ballot were selected by ESPN.com's J.A. Adande, TNT play by-play announcer Marv Albert, NBA.com's Art Garcia, Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears, the Toronto Star's Doug Smith and Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen.

Ugh, the dreaded re-post:

I don't care if Bynum doesn't suit up until March. I want him healthy for the games leading up to the REAL season, and I want him fully healthy and ready to dominate the paint from April to June. That's all I care about. All-Star dreams be damned... this is about winning, and I want to see our boys take home the only prize that matters after beating the Celtics in five IN BOSTON.

Go Lake Show!

I'm happy that LO is on the ballot and I hope he makes it. But I read somewhere else that Paul Milsap isn't on the ballot? Sorry that's just wrong!

Bryant and Gasol are locks and Gasol has a shot of getting a starting position. Lamar if he continues his production has an outside shot as a reserve. Ron and Derek are unlikely to make it. Andrew has to really explode in December and January to convince voters beyond the Laker fan base.

REPOST...

Well since 63 Footer has declared this Jeannie Buss day. I'll have to send this one out to her...and the other Laker girls at the LAT blog like PLG suggested:

Change of guards in the west, Fish instead of CP3.

If Agent Zero isn't coming to CLE, than how come LeBron's mom just rubbed up to her best stick of deodorant?

http://hoopstopia.com/crazy-trade-of-the-day-3/

@MVP – understood...now on to the next case...lol

@LakerJ – Magic would love to be a piece of Piston ownership. Unfortunately I don’t think Mr. Ilitch (if/when he takes over) is looking to bring in additional partners.

@Justa - Jay Z and JD…a nice jam to bounce with.

@63Footer – Matthew Crenshaw – Impressive. Still sounding good...or maybe that's my hometown bias...lol

LRob - I still think Marshall Crenshaw's first album was one of the great rookie albums of all time (along with the Pretenders and Elvis' first, as well). He still keeps writing good songs (and I like the one Gin Blossoms song he co-wrote), but he's never done THAT before.

oosp, should have said "before or since."

DFish on the ballot - good for him, but Lamar... he needs an All-Star pick. Maybe Kloe and the rest of the K's will rally the troops and promise more rasty nakedness if everyone votes for Lamar. (Just a thought....)

Now we know what Drew's going to be doing instead of rehabbing: stuffing the ballot box.

I kid, I kid!

KobeMVP888 - I got no problem with Pau continuing on this path to greatness. One thing that rarely gets mentioned is that he "fits" well with Kobe. It's hard to fit with a mega-superstar and shine yourself. It can be done, but it's always a hit-or-miss thing, and I wouldn't trade Pau for anyone in the league right now in that sense. His skills, his passing, his attitude, his BB IQ, all make him a perfect fit with Kobe. I don't think Dirk and Kobe would fit well. I'm not sure Melo and Kobe would be more effective. Kobe's a tough one.

Everyone fit around Magic because of his unique skill-set and size, etc., but Kobe is not so easy. It's why Lamar and Ron Ron are so great... they tailor their game to work around Kobe's. Mesh is a funny thing, and that's why Jerry & Mitch at GM are so great. They think about that sort of thing.

MM,

Perhaps you're moving up in the world!
You are quoted in this article on Yahoo Sports:

Kobe Bryant's catching flak for that 'Call of Duty' ad

"But again, as I wrote when the spot debuted, I'm not at all surprised that people would have a negative reaction to its contents, Kobe's participation in it or all of the above — Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times and Matt Moore of CBSSports.com each raised objections to the commercial, with Medina arguing that the ad "downplays the seriousness that real combat entails" and Moore taking issue with the absence of content "that really shows the traumatic effects of war."

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Kobe-Bryant-s-catching-flak-for-that-Call-of-Du?urn=nba-287113&poll_id=58058&wv=1#poll.58058

Art - FL Laker Fan - MM, soon to be the bellwether of the entire sports writing industry. If MM didn't say it first, it wasn't worth saying! Granted, it goes from God, to us bloggers to MM. (A little "Real Genius" reference there.)

And for the whiny anti-Kobesters trying to get a dig any way they can -- didn't Call of Duty break a bunch of 5-day sales records? How many shoes did Lebron's nacisistic commercial sell? Not $650 millions worth I betcha.

justanothermambafan-
it was me, yes I, who explained the "public trust" concept to the Busses in several heated emails(and even this LA Times blog) during Kobe's summer of discontent. or i like to believe that my emails were responsible anyway....

@MVP – understood...now on to the next case...lol

Wait a minute! I'm not done with you!

mud - I think they all acknowledged your contribution at the time. A shame she didn't write further about it... but WE remember. :)

I agree with everything except that Lamar has more than just an outside shot as a reserve the way he's playing.

My thoughts on this whole Pau thingy...

He is a very good player. He is a highly skilled player. He is a perennial all-star. But he is not a dominant player like the all-time great that Ricky is comparing him to. Seriously, Moses Malone would have easily outplayed Pau. I don’t like doing this because it makes it look like I’m knocking one of our current players. But the facts are Pau was 0-12 in playoffs games before joining the Lakers.

Fish and Bynum getting the nod? Weird. I'm proud of them, but Bynum hasn't even played this year and Fish hasn't had huge numbers. I guess Fish's "intangibles" have even helped him get onto the ballot.

Kobe and Pau are a lock. I sure hope L.O. and Artest make it as well. Ron-Ron for his excellent performances in last year's playoffs and Lamar's new found consistancy this year.

Kobe is not the reason Call of duty sold that many but he may have a little to do with it. Its a very popular game and hasnt sold MUCH more than the last call of duty to come out. Im ok with giving Kobe the credit since he is getting so much flak for even being in the commercial. People need to get a life and realize the game is for adults not for kids. Kids CANT buy the game so in what way is kobe saying its alright for kids to use guns. People dont research before they start freaking out. I feel it was wrong of ESPN to air the Commercial on their channel and their website then completely Bash kobe and pretty much blame him for death from guns. That guy even said he was smiling and dressing like a kid that kills. The USA has been getting a lower average IQ for years. Its the governments fault for releasing "Chemtrails" above the USA population

what spectacular play can Fish do in the ASG?

knock off the Princess?

or the SKILL thing???????????

or it is just political to make Fish a warmar part in the Stern negotiations?

Fisher's on the ballot because he is a starter. If memory serves, typically just about every starting player and even some bench players are listed. That being said, I'm not sure why Paul Millsap would have been left off.

Outside of a few laker faithfuls and Derek Fisher himself, of course, I think most of us agree that his spot shouldn't be punched out too many times.

I agree with everything except that Lamar has more than just an outside shot as a reserve the way he's playing.

Posted by: KobeMVP888 | November 18, 2010 at 04:10 PM
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He still has to go past Dirk,Melo (if he isn't traded by then), Durant, Tim Duncan since those 4 are locks and will face competition from LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin (his team sucks but he is damn good), Luis Scola, Zach Randolph for the remaining slots and Beasley if Beasley continues his tear in Minnesota.

Then if Gasol is voted as a forward only rather than F/C then Odom has more competition.

Not to mention Bynum's return will make Lamar return to the bench and since the Lakers tend to feed Bynum to get him involved instead of a bystander that takes touches away from LO.

An outside shot is good but then again LO has to remain consistent AND those guys have to really flounder for LO to have more than an outside shot.

lol...whiny or not Ne-Yo's got skillz. Lots of great artist were whiners. You're sounding a little old school not wanting to prop the new school. I'm just saying.

63 Footer

that was the cynical remark a non-cultured LakerTom made about me. in his head "artists" write literature. more exactly he thinks he writes literature when he is blogging. so his conclusion is that one can not be an "artist", even if "self -proclaimed", if they don't write literature on the Lakers Blog. maybe he did not read what Beuys had to say. (my question to you was a joke and the sarcasm font towards him was in ultra black).

"I still think Marshall Crenshaw's first album was one of the great rookie albums of all time"

63 Footer - I couldn't agree more. That album kept me singing to myself for months. I will say, though, that Rickie Lee Jones' first album came out at the same time and it is right up there in the top rookie albums ever.

KB Blitz

Excellent points, although I would personally put him a head of a number of those players with the season he's having. I'm just thinking that IF he continues this consistent play, he's more than an outside shot because the game is being played at Staples Center AND people took notice of his leadership and contributions in the Worlds AND it's about time he's recognized for the talent he is. Anyway, you should know by now how I feel about exhibition games.

ouchhhhhhhh - oops, sorry - I took it seriously, and didn't know the reference. Fortunately, by either definition, I'll NEVER be an artist. :) (And am quite happy that way.)

jwbrent - darn you! darn you to heck! You are correct! (Granted, there are many good rook albums, but to forget hers is a crime, though I think that Pirates and Flying Cowboys are my faves.)

@63 Footer - Didn't know he wrote that for Gin Blossoms. Thanks for the edumacation!(said in my best "Slip" Mahoney brooklyn accent).

@Art - thanks for sharing the info on MM. He's moving up indeed.

LRob - so as not to misinform, I meant that Marshall co-wrote "Til I Hear It From You" - not Someday, Someway.

Thinking about the selection of centers for the West makes me realize how injury-plagued the position has been this year. Yao, Bynum, Oden, Kaman . . . Come the All-Star break, gotta hope there'll be a center or two left WITHOUT a break.

Speaking of potential All-Star Lamar Odom, here's an article/interview fresh off the press:

http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/11/18/keeping-up-with-lamar-nov-18-edition/

Bynum is the next Greg Odom!!!!

The All STar game is a popularity contest and LO has raised his popularity quotient exponentially.

From Klohe to the World Chip and the fact that AB's rehab has him in the spotlight, this is his best shot ever at makin' the dance.

i'm wondering if PJ does not want to tank a little this part of the season so he won't have to coach the all star team. we all know that he hates that.

at the same time, with the Game in LA it will make it easier for him to feel it palatable. especailly that he can have maybe 3 Lakers on the team. third-guessing the Zen Master.

63 footer-
lol....

Phil Jackson's worse nightmare. His starters all in the All-Star Game.

At least they don't have to travel far for the game.

If the starters are in the All Star game then we can forget watching Andrew Odom, I mean Sam Bynum! You know what I'm saying! Trade him for a cardboard poster of Yao Ming and let that ship sail.

Why is Bynum on the all-star ballot? Is he trying to pull an Iverson / Mcgrady?

Wes

mud - did I steal your thunder and not give you credit for it? My badness.... but you have to know me by now - I have no problem taking credit for great stuff that I didn't come up with LOL!!!!

Sorry.....

Its too late to trade Bynum now. Who would want him? We should have traded him for Bosh.
The guy is just not a serious Basket ball player. period.

Not too sure if any of y'all have seen the "awkward hand shake" between K-Love and Wes Johnson of the T-Wolves...but this is hilarious!

http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/feature_Investigative_Report_The_Awkward_Handshake_2010_11_14.html

All the GMs in Laker Blog Love FBBL...

Very weird...out of both leagues...only 1 player is playing today...then tomorrow...all but 1 player is playing...

How often does this happen, and has it happened to anyone yet...where not one of their 13 players is not scheduled to play...

Oh god, not another Bynum for Bosh comment. If you think our front court is depleted with an injured Bynum on the bench, I could only wonder what soft as nails, Ru Paul of basketball himself, Chris Bosh would have been like for the lakers....actually, i don't want to think about that especially after Garnett ate that boy alive so far this year....

Jamie - thanks for the 'handshake video' I was confused at first, then when I realized it was a spoof...I was LMAO...

I'd totally go Bynum for Boosh, for the Boosh is mighty.

Bynum for Bosh?

No. Sorry.

Nevermind.

The awkward handshake video is AWEsOME - made my day! Thanks for discovering and posting Jamie Sweet!

Garnet ate Pau for lunch 3 years ago, does it mean we should have traded Pau?
Bynum is injury prone. We were lucky to have him last year.

"jwbrent - darn you! darn you to heck! You are correct! (Granted, there are many good rook albums, but to forget hers is a crime, though I think that Pirates and Flying Cowboys are my faves.)"

63 Footer - Pirates is my favorite too.

Has anyone heard whether Shannon is going to enter the slam dunk contest? Does he get an invite since he participated last year? I'm not sure how this whole thing works....

keen observer - you are incorrect! It is obvious that Karl Malone at Pau for lunch, which is why Karl is looking the way he does in that commercial.

Oops, "ate" not "at." What little joke there was is now ruined. My apologies everyone. Never drink and blog, it only leads to heartache and liquor on the keyboard (or in this case the iPad).

Not to bad.

Where the Hell is Shannon Brown on this list??

@63 Footer - Nah, no confusion. I didn't know he wrote any Gin Blossoms songs so I looked it up.

A bigger question is how did you like my Slip Mahoney accent and misuse of words or were you not a fan of Mr. Gorcey?

63- "Liquor on my iPad" - sounds like a new hit single!

Lew - It happens every once in awhile. Usually on Thursday since there's only 2-3 games that day.

justa - "Liquor on my iPad, and my WiFi's done broke my heart!"

Yup, a country hit.

LRob - Loved the Slip Mahoney - nuthin' like the Dead End Kids (and all those afterwards that were the same thing).

Agreed 100%, plus Lamar's playing at an all star level IMHO.

Sup peeps!

@Some Guy in the AV: you said, "Where the Hell is Shannon Brown on this list??"

I have to agree with you my friend. Tho' I luv DFish, I too, feel Shannon is more deserving of consideration for the AS ballot(based on his play thus far) over our beloved team co-captain...just sayin'

~

@63FTR: I'm glad you've enjoyed my musical selections. I like to hear new sounds from artists that I was never aware of...keeps me excited about the artform.

BTW, I forgot to mention how much I always enjoy your comments...they're always quite witty and funny.

Not as funny as JAMF tho'...dammit. :-)

~

@Zaira: Sorry to hear you're a bit under-the-weather...hope you recover very soon.

BTW, enjoyed that 'The Avalanches' tune...thanks!

~

@Wes: I forgot to wish you well during your bout with pneumonia(I've been there myself)...hope you're fully recovered and glad to see you back on the blog.

~

@utz: Gotta agree with you on Ne-Yo...definitely not a fan. Of course, in this age of autotune, I'm not a fan of a lot of the more popular so-called 'vocalist' these days but, that's just me...I guess.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely 'old skool', LRob. ;-)

@Lakers Rule(Amit): Glad to see you back on the blog my friend and hope to see you on the Live Chat as well. :-)

Let's go Ls...all the way to a 3-peat!!!!!

Bynam as an All-Star ?? You have got to be kidding !! The guy has not played a single game this season and I seriously doubt he will. The Lakers should get him well and trade him off during the ASG. Even Rihanna does not want to be mentioned with him. That is how bad his reputation is. The guy is a loser. Lakers are doing fine without him. Get him traded for another center and guard. Fisher should consider retirement after this year. Right Fisher ??

@Art - FL Laker Fan lol one step at a time

dude i know fisher is old but show him some more respect. his the most important player we got (apart from black mamba).

I THINK THIS "ACROSS THE POND SERIES" BY GDUB IS VERY GOOD AND SHOULD BECOME A REGULAR FEATURE...IMHO.

Well, aren't the HATERS out in numbers on this site. Who the hell cares what happened in 2008? How long had Pau been on the team at playoff time? Allstars tend to come from teams where they are the #1 option...or #2 option at worst. Lamar is #3 on the Lakers right now, but....they are the two time NBA champs thanks to his efforts in conjunction with the best player in the game and the best BIGMAN in the game. LO belongs on the Allstar team, but he'll be fine taking a three day vacation and just attending the game as a fan if thats the way it works out. Come next June, or whenever it is that his long-ass season ends, Lamar will be on the NBA Championship team once again....and you haters can get ready for next season.
