Phil Jackson laments negative campaigning while Ron Artest plans to vote in Tuesday's election
It appears the Lakers are addressing the election season fairly differently.
Coach Phil Jackson is so disgusted with the negative campaigning that he feels inclined to tune it all out. Forward Ron Artest has been consumed so much with the NBA season that he's not fully comfortable with publicly commenting on his political views. But he plans to do a little bit of research tonight and show up first thing Tuesday morning at the voting booth.

Boy, I walk away for a few hours to have a meeting and Mama's declared a winner (ha - the fat Mama hasn't even sung yet), LEWSTRS has another good Beatles/Lakers moment, and "newbie" has now become a defaming word. Oh, and Drew, Luke and Randy Moss should all be traded for Ricky (but what else is new?).
All right, you may knock me out, but: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JXCht5H9oU
And this is how he did it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8FS2LxdmVc
And if you disagree, Mama, this is all I gotta say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysweyt4INgk
And whatever you do! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64n0HWoFqyw

RE: RICK FRIEDMAN
I justa spoke with Rick and he sounds very good. He says he's surrounded by friends and family and is getting pampered! At this point, the doctors and he are hopeful he'll be able to go home either tomorrow or Wednesday. He'll have to undergo another round of therapy in a couple of weeks, but hopefully it will be on an out-patient basis. He says these things have a way of turning on a dime, but he sounds very optimistic.
I updated him on the state of the blog and told him everyone's asking about him and wanting updates, and he's very touched by everyone's concern and love. The sooner he gets home, the sooner he'll be able to come back, so good thoughts and smiles everyone! I know he knows we're there for him.

1980 Playoffs...Who remembered that year, SA and Houston was in the Eastern Conference and Milwaukee was in the West...
Anyone know when they realigned the league to reflect the way it looks now...

Well in 82 I know the Lakers played the Spurs in the WC finals. And Hou bumped the Lakers out in the 1st rd in 81 back when it was a best of 3 series. (Why Lew why did you make me re-visit that painful memory of Magic ignoring the coach instructions of going to Kareem for the final shot...and hoisting up an airball instead.) So it had to happen at the beginning of the 80-81 season.
Excellent 4th selection on Lakers great moments...Beatles great songs.

Thanks for the Friedman update, JAMF. Much appreciated. I'm glad to hear he's on the road to recovery.
The blog *is* feisty today. I kinda like it, really. There's no room for complacency on OR off the court, if you catch my drift.

A thread with political overtones but no one took the bait, no political comments.
Ok, I'll succumb , the temptation is just too much to resist.

No one is arguing bynum is more superior physically and when healthy a much better shotblocker and better post presence.. The main concern is his health and health only.
So the real question that should be posed is not whether horford is better than healthy bynum but whether horford is better than injured bynum.. I think that's what lakertruth was posing as the proverbial "no brainer".. So in the likelyhood bynum returns and gets re-injured would you prefer a healthy horford or a one legged bynum?? Enquiring minds want to know

I defer to the Lakers' front office on issues involving the hypothetical you posed. There are a number of centers I would take over Al Horford, including some of the perennially injured ones I have listed (Nene and Perkins, particularly). In fact, I would take Serge Ibaka over Horford. But if you are asking me whether I would take Horford over no one, sure. If you are asking me whether I would take Horford over the Bynum of the most recent playoffs, no way.

Kwame was listed as seventh worst and Adam came in twelveth place.

@yellofever - I saw your earlier post regarding Rambis mind games with Kevin Love and I agree with your take 100%. I had posted something similar a few ago. Of course, both sides came out and said it was not big deal. I like Rambis, but I'm watching him closely now to see how this plays out.
@63 Footer - Yeah...I'm mama'd out too...lol. Your catalog is too deep for me. I like that Carl Carlton...a Detroiter...we called Little Carl Carlton back in the day.
@Art - That is a beautiful tribute to Nick Drake. I was not familiar, so thanks. And you're right about Mama Cass..such a great singer.
Posted by: LRob | November 01, 2010 at 04:22 PM
And so the great Mama-off comes to a close. It's hoped all you mothers out there (and all you muthas as well) enjoyed the musical repast, and always remember what Stevie Wonder once said:
“Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.”
Then again, you could always remember what Zep said as well:
“Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good. No, Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good. When the levee breaks, mama you got to move”
Posted by: 63 Footer | November 01, 2010 at 04:32 PM
@Lrob.. I have love in my fantasy and what rambis is doing to him is just fundamentally wrong on every level not only to love himself but to every fantasy owner of love. Lol
@kobemvp888.. Did I just understand you correctly? U are under oath so pls address the jury directly and clearly... Did u actually say u would take a hobbled bynum of last year OVER a healthy horford... WOW..
Ladies n gentlemen of the jury could this be smoking gun evidence that kobemvp888 is perhaps letting emotions get in the way of his decisionmaking and is a possible bynum homer?? No offense kobemvp888 enjoy ur takes so just pokin fun

yellofever - maybe Rambis is getting Love pissed off so he'll jump ship as soon as he can for... the Lakers? A secret deal between Buss and Kurt hatched in the dark of night before Rambis left for the frozen tundra? Inquiring minds want to know.
LRob - there was a "Big" Carl Carlton too?!? :)
Posted by: 63 Footer | November 01, 2010 at 04:42 PM
Threw out the back yesterday, so gonna be real short lol.
R.I.P. former Laker Maurice Lucas. The best 'enforcer' we ever had. He was also best friends with papa Walton, and whom Luke is named after. A great under-appreciated talent. You will be missed Mo...
justa: Thanks for the Rick Friedman update. Sounds like he's progressing, that is good to hear. GET WELL SOON RICK!
Great victory last night, especially since it was a chance to see the rooks get some floor time. NBA TV pointed out a great fact, the Lakers are so good they even have the added advantage that most teams don't get, the ability to get their rooks into blowout games, to get help get them prepared more quickly than most teams that don't have the luxury to blow other teams out. I thought that was a great point.
Off to apply a heating pad. My goodness, it's bad enough to throw out a back, but I find the incessant yapping of a caffeinated in-law makes the pain that much worse to endure! lol...
GO LAKERS!!!!!
just gotta add, I'm LOVING the new acquisitions!!!!!

Posted by: LRob | November 01, 2010 at 05:09 PM
@yellofever - I have him in one of my fantasy leagues also. But what Rambis is doing is dumb. They're a much better team with Love on the court and its a players league. So if Kurt wants to keep his job and get future opportunities I suggest he straighten up....pronto!
@Zaira - loved your take on the whole Pau/Kobe situation. That Stone Roses was cool also.
Posted by: LRob | November 01, 2010 at 05:13 PM
Congrats to Pau for his WC player of the week award. Keep making your fantasy GM look good. I knew that call I made to Pau (like the Durant commercial) would work. Drew take it easy and maybe come back in February or so.
Okay...I kidding about Drew...I know that's a hot button issue and I don't want to get blasted.

If you asked Doc Rivers who he would rather have faced, a healthy 6'10", 245 lb Al Horford or a gimpy 7'0", 285 lb Bynum, I am SURE he would have rather faced Horford.
I get accused of using the fact that we won back-to-back championships with Andrew as our starting center as a lame reason to be a Bynum homer. I can live with that. :)

@63 Footer Maybe your Kevin Love take isn't too far off. I recall his interview with Dan Patrick from the summer ( http://tinyurl.com/278yddp ) where he mentioned the Lakers. Dan Patrick even quipped "when you replace Luke Walton on the bench for the Lakers ...." Who knows?
Regarding all the Bynum health posts, anyone else do the what ifs with Pau's brother Marc. What if Bynum was part of the deal for Pau and Marc was still a Laker?
