Now that's the early season Lakers I remember! At least they pulled it out. I'm glad the Blazers are coming into town to wake them up. Although I do agree with the general consensus that they need to pace themselves at this point in the season, especially until Drew comes back.
I freaking love our bench additions. Had no idea they would be this effective so early in the season.
We need to start a Mitch Kupchak for exec. of the year bandwagon!

@Noah – yes, new to Neko. Thanks for the heads up. Good selection on Cream. I actually heard that this morning on the radio.

@63 Footer – Wilt’s 48.5 mpg one season…great stat for the pitch count, minute watch, don’t touch the QB generation.

@Hater – If Pau goes down then no championship.

LRob - these young-uns and their twitting and hippity-hop music, all short attention spams and instant coffee gratification. Why, I remember once when the Lakers were playing the Celtics in Game 8 of the Finals and the scoreboard clock got stuck and they played TWO STRAIGHT DAYS before anyone noticed and called a time out, and that was only because Jerry West had gotten three more broken noses and they wanted to pop that sucker back into place and play some more. (grumbe-grumble) 39 minutes... oooouuuu, my feetsies are achin'. What next, playin' in wheelchairs. Don't get me started on this no hand-check rule... the sissies!

My Saturday song is dedicated to my childhood, kids shows and punk:

I think anyone would be hard pressed to dispute that.
Yet, Pau gets his fair share of criticism here.

Actually, that's probably not correct. He gets an unfair share of criticism, yet I don't see how the Lakers would have made it to the last 3 Finals without him.

The Kobe fans may not like this, (but Ricky will). I think a case can be made that Pau is very close to being the MVP of the team. Not saying he is, but so close it's a toss up.
Imagine how well the Lakers would do right now without Pau. Then imagine how well they would do without Kobe. Losing either one would be a blow, but if Pau or Kobe were out for an extended period, one or the other, which Laker team would end up with the better record after that period?

Of course no one can say, just food for thought.

But then, in all fairness, when Drew returns the Lakers might be batter able to withstand being without Pau than without Kobe. But without Bynum, I think they might better withstand the loss of Kobe vs Pau.

The thing is, every player on every team could be criticized.
But let's just stick with the Lakers.
Ron certainly has parts of his game that could be improved, as does Fish, and LO, and even Kobe as good as he is isn't perfect. So if Pau is fair game, so is everyone else. So don't just vent your criticism on Pau, don't let the other players off the hook. If you are going after Pau, then go after the others too.
At least be a fair and balanced criticizer and don't just show critical opinions about Pau.
Or Bynum.
Let 'em all have it

There will be games the Lakers just won't look right and instead of pulling out a close win they will lose. And that will bug me cause I hate when they lose. But it's going to happen, probably at least 20 times + or - a few.

As for how they are doing right now, I am opinionless. I like to see them win by 2 or 20, I don't care. Like Phil and most others, I just want to see the wins pile up.

I don't read much into 6 wins against weak teams, they should be 6-0 right now. Because of their unusually weak schedule, we may not be able to see what the Lakers can really do for quite a while.

I look forward to seeing how they do against the better teams. If someone has a bad game or two I don't think much about it. However, a prolonged period of poor or inconsistent play may raises some issues.
Unless it's the Fish. He's about the only one I could see going through a prolonged period of weakness and wouldn't worry about it. And by now it should be obvious why.

That's really funny, maybe you are onto something.

63,

Great post about "the sissies".
Also the one before about walking to school in the snow uphill both ways.
I remember having to do that too. And after being in high school all day having to walk a few miles to my job and work until 10 PM and then walk a few miles home.
In the snow.
When it was 10 degrees.

I didn't think there was anyone around that remembered those days.

Are we discussing how spoiled kids are now days...

Yes I remember those days of my having to walk to school and back in my old St. Louis days...almost 2 miles one way...in the snow, cold and what ever weather...

Now my kids drove Jeep and Lexus...while I was eccstatic to finally get a 10 speed for my senior year...it was put together from 3 different bikes...lol

To commemorate those days I submit this...

#17 Coming Up!!!

Hey Ar-Fl Laker Fan

I´m a Kobe fan. I think he is the best player around the world. But in my opinion, Pau is the key guy in this current Lakers team. He is the "key guy" since 2008. Why Pau Gasol has not credit he deserve for sure???? 3 years playing in L.A., 3 finals and 2 rings. Pau only know play NBA finals with the Lakers about. I cant remember any other Laker player with this historial (no Shaq, no Kareem, no Magic, no nobody....)

You should be a "Showtime" fan for sure. This "Showtime Era" was Magic/Kareem era with good roles players. This current time, we have the Kobe/Pau era, and like Andy Kamenetzsky said, this could be the best era in the Lakers history. What you think???

To CybercosmiX

Canary Islands is amazing place. I love Lanzarote, really... really a beautiful Island, Tenerife too, but for my, Lanzarote is the best Canary Island. You can see the sea in every corner. The food is very special ("papas arrugas" or "old potatoes", mojo picón - a sauce -) and obviously, beautiful beaches (Famara, Playa Blanca, Caletón Blanco, El Golfo) I have spend 7 summers of my life in this Island and believe me, I think is like Hawaii Islands, but more quiet (sorry, I never been in Hawaii)

Catalonia (1 Spain Comunidad Autónoma- State -) is similar to California. The rest of Spain is more like Texas and some places (Castilla, Extremadura...) like Arizona.

You should visit Spain but if you lives in California not forget that this State was the "NUEVA ESPAÑA" 4 centuries ago.

Hey Ricky,

Yes, Kobe is a spectacular player and yes I am a Showtime fan. The Showtime era is when I became a Laker fan.
These Lakers playing against those Lakers would be fun to see.

Yes, amazing matchups:

Magic/D-Fish
Scott/ Kobe
Big Game James / LO
A.C. Green or Rambis / Pau
Kareem / Bynum.

Bufffff. Point guard position, SF and C????? I think is "Showtime" point. Shooting guard and PF.... I dont Know. Surely the Showtime Team was better.

The best starting five:

Magic
Kobe
Baylor
Pau
Kareem

2 best starting five.

Goodrich
West
Worthy
Mcadoo
Shaq

Derek Fisher no es rival para Magic Johnson. Kobe latidos Byron Scott. James Worthy latidos Odom o Artest. Pau latidos AC Green. Bynum no es rival para Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Showtime de Lakers gana.

LO had a subpar game last night. I hope that was the exception than the trend (again.) I am interesting to see if he will play better against LaMarcus Aldridge to get back on the track or fall back into the old habit of up and down season.

Ricky, add this as well,

3) Best Starters

Mikan
Cooper
Scott
Hairston
Wilt

Putting George Mikan at PF, ha, ha.

Bufff, bro, I dont know if you write a worse spanish than myself a pathetic english. I think you would said "bate o gana". Latidos in Spanish is the cardiac sound.

Hey Derek, I like your team, too, but I think you should be much more older than I.

To Lewstrs:

Is not: "Me estoy riendo mi culo", is "Me estoy partiendo el culo".

I think this should be great for me. You can teach me about english and I Spanish.

O.K., guys, sleep time for me. 22:22 h. in Barcelona.

Hey Epi, see you in the Beach tomorrow????? Voy con Montse y la nena. Llámame.

KBBlitz,
You may know the answer to this. can the Lakers sign Rasheed Wallace if need be. He retired a Celtic having one year left on his contract. Do they own his rights or once he retired is he free to sign with whomever? I think this would be an advantageous move for the Lakers if Ratliff and Caracter continue to struggle. Sheed may still be an asset come playoff time. I'm not advocating it now, I think we are fine, but just in case I wondered if it can be done.

I had hoped the Lakers would have killed the Raptors to show their mind set (killer instinct) to go along. I think they will play well agaisnt the Portland, but I'm more curisous to see how they will play against another "bad" Timberwolves team next Tuesday. Is it going to be another dog fight or blow away game? Those games against the weak teams are the games that the "complacency" could be easily sneaked into the Lakers players' minds.

"Bufff, bro, I dont know if you write a worse spanish than myself a pathetic english."

lo siento. Mi español puede ser oxidado a veces.

The Celtics bought out his rights for $0 I believe. So he's a free agent technically should he want to return.

Sheed draws my ire from when he was with the Jail Blazers (yea the current Portland team is much more behaved than that squad) so I'm not too high on a signing especially with Bynum coming back. He may be a better shooter than Theo but if he does get signed he'll most likely fire threes (which we don't want) instead of the post (where he actually is good when he wants to be in there........)

Yes it can be done with Sheed SHOULD he come out of retirement because the Celtics bought out his contract.

When Mrs. DBDH comments on how good the Lakers bench looks, and how good the team's offense looks, that's a good sign.

However, Mrs. DBDH also pointed out that the Lakers let the Raptors back in the game (plenty of times), and their defense in the paint was poor.

I love Mrs. DBDH!

As a die-hard Tar Heel fan, it pains me to say, "No Sheed, please."

DBDH!

Thanks KB, you are right about Sheed. He is not my favorite player by any means. However, if his back is healthy, and wants to return, I'm sure it will be to win a ring. Hopefully, he will be more focused and understand that it is his inside game that a team will want him for. I can see the Heat and the Celtics (if a big goes down) wanting his services. Heck even the Magic could use him (inside).

I'm one of those Kobe fans who will disagree that Pau is the MVP of the Lakers team. Regardless of the fact that Phil is playing Pau an insane amount of minutes and it shows in how long it takes Pau to get down the court during 3rd and 4th quarters and how many point blank shots he misses in 3rd and 4th quarters, if the Lakers had no Kobe Bryant and the defenses were opposing teams were designed to stop Pau, they would stop him. He's a great offensive player but is not the MVP of the Lakers, Kobe is still that. Just like with everything, most individuals go with whatever the media is hyping at the time. Phil has everything to do with the perception of Pau for some as the MVP of the Lakers. He is playing him lots of minutes, saying he's his favorite player, trying to hype him as the leader of the Lakers for whatever reason. Still Pau is a finesse player who occassionally plays hard on defense but who can still be punked. Pau's doing what he's allowed to do and what he's capable of doing. Of Kobe, LO and Pau over the first six games the MVP is LO. The game was as close as it was last night because LO's numbers were down. It is LO that has been making the difference in the first 5 games not Pau. Right now LO is the MVP. But when the chips are down and we need a score it's still Kobe not Pau who will bring us home.

hey bosssir . good luck today. gotta be better than last week. try usin this. http://sportscomplainer.com/nba my neighbor told me about it. everything is in one spot so it makes it easier. you'll c. ive been usin it since he showed me it . maybe it will help u. alright. ill tty after all the games
