Caught in the Web: Lakers enjoy an off day before game against Minnesota

A few notes: I am in short supply of Laker blog profiles. This is something I plan to feature on Lakers' off-days throughout the season so if you want this series to continue, send your profiles to mgmedin@gmail.com

Plenty of readers loved, for good reason, "Journey to the Ring," a collaborative book between Lakers Coach Phil Jackson and NBA senior photographer Andrew D. Bernstein. You can order advance copies here.

--The Times' Mike Bresnahan details the influence Lakers assistant coach Chuck Person has provided for the Lakers.

--ESPN.com's Chris Broussard remains confused as to why Minnesota Coach and former Laker Kurt Rambis limits Kevin Love's playing time.

--ESPN Los Angeles' Brian Kamenetzky breaks down the Lakers' defense. He also previews the Lakers' upcoming week.

Lakers guard Kobe Bryant thanks the military for their service in the video below

--Sports Illustrated's Zach Lowe devotes part of his column to a favorite among hoops fans: making fun of Minnesota's Darko Milicic.

--CBSSports.com's Matt Moore asks if anyone wants to play point guard for the T-Wolves. Thanks, but I'll pass.

--Fox Sports' West's Matt Smith predicts the Lakers will get at least 73 wins.

--The Star Tribune highlights Minnesota's youth.

--Lakers.com's Mike Trudell details where the Lakers rank league-wide in a few statistical categories.

--Silver Screen and Roll's C.A. Clark argues the Lakers can play good defense simply when they put their minds to it.

--Forum Blue and Gold's Zephid breaks down the effectiveness Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom have demonstrated thus far.

--Canis Hoopus' pescatello wonders whether the Timberwolves can win 30 games.

--Lakers Nation's Nadya Avakian likes how Steve Blake and Derek Fisher are working together.

Phil knows he's got a Ferrari this year. He's just got it purring along. Trying a few things in 2nd & 3rd
gear. Knows he's got several more gears, but sees no need to even try them now. Hasn't even floored
it yet when the NBA cops aren't looking, but knows he can lay a patch of smoke & rubber a block
long if he ever needs it. But yeah, Sonny Belfast, Phil knows (and YOU know) he may not even need
to floor it this year at all. But just for the heck of it, I think he will...on Christmas day. @CORNERJ

GAME DAY BABY!!!

YYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Not too much to say yet today, but it's early and I just had some caffeine so.... :)

I just want the team to go out tonight and win. Just do it again.

GO LAKERS!!

Let the hunt for 6 begin - DFish
Nothing but another title will suffice - KBryant
WE GOT THIS - justa

Another fine Lakers morning!

72 wins? I remember the 71-72 season - West was hurt at the beginning, and it was a shaky start. Elg retired. Somewhere, somehow, they got to 20 & 21 wins, and THEN it was a streak. Till then, no one suspected a thing. Then it kept going and going. 33 games! Then they didn't do too shabby afterwards and had a nice 8 game streak (which should have been 11, but they LOST to the frickin' Cavaliers - the WORST team in bball at the time). So, they broke the 68 win record, but 70 wasn't something they thought about.

I think the same here: you don't go after 72 wins, it either comes into focus or not. You go after WINS. If they add up to a record, and with all the increased pressure than ensues, then you decide.

And LRob got us Muddy Waters-ing (some of the greatest) in honor of Rolling Stones magazine. So I guess I have to follow in his footsteps with the rolling stones theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s3SNHIH0bs

justa with the fine, fine musical choice for this beautiful morning.

There is no morning like the morning of a GAME DAYYYY!!!

I almost feel ashamed of the beating the Lakers HAVE to put on Kurt and his boys, but they are a very low speed bump in the way of Justa's 82-0 bandwagon and they must be destroyed. It' s nature's law, not mine.

JR

@LRob.

Before the work calls I disagree about Rajon Rondo's shot. There's a huge difference between shooting it in a All-Star competition and in a game situation where you are doing much more than focusing on shooting. Rondo may make it in those and probably in practice too but it's not consistent enough for him to be a threat. Is it improved compared to his early years? Oh yea definitely but he'll never be a Ray Allen and if he starts jacking up three's his regular FG% will go down which is around 48% currently. Jacking up three's while making him more of at threat from the outside will only decrease efficiency which is a big difference in the NBA and he'll never be like Ray who makes his outside shot consistently.

@MM. You should be on the T-Wolves.....we would love to see how you play PG.

GAME PREDICTION: LAKERS BY 8 ONLY BECAUSE IT'S KURT.

@Blitz - I only said Rondo would become an adequate shooter. Not an good 3pt shooter or the second coming of Ray Allen. So exactly what are you disagreeing with?

Good article on the Rambis-K. Love situation. I really had to laugh at this quote...

"You have to be on crystal meth not to give Love more minutes on that team,'' one scout told me. "It makes no sense.''
---------------------

Also a very nice piece on Chuck Person and his impact on Ron Ron. Whatever happened to Craig Hodges? Since the Rifleman is the official shooting coach does Hodges still do anything with the Lakers?
----------------------

Lakers #5 in free throw %...a far cry from the Shaq years!

@Blitz - I only said Rondo would become an adequate shooter. Not an good 3pt shooter or the second coming of Ray Allen. So exactly what are you disagreeing with?

Posted by: LRob | November 09, 2010 at 08:39 AM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think even an adequate shoooter. At most a mediocre one similar to Derrick Rose.

LRob/Blitz - we're debating Rajon Rondo? Rajon Frickin' Celtic Rondo? Noooooooooooooo! (Actually, I'm in tune with you both, and have respect for the kid for working hard, buying into the system and becoming a game-influencing player, if no kind of jump shooter, thankfully.) But... Rajon Rondo on game day!?!

I feel much better now. Must have some music to soothe my savage beast breast (I'm never sure which word is correct in that phrase): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gea6erJSLVY

Matt "Money" Smith wrote a great article on the "73 wins".

63 - thanks. It was a pleasant commute for sure with Steely Dan playing! Love that group... :)

JR - you're right. It is the natural order of the universe. Get out of the way or get run over. Period.

82-0 BABEEEEE!! Still rolling straight ahead and picking up a head of steam!

I believe, like most of us do, that this team is special. And I also believe they know they're special as well. We don't have to worry about inconsistent play from a player or 2, because it's not going to determine the outcome of a game. This team is deep enough to withstand those off-games that will happen to guys now and again. I also don't see a lack of focus being an issue. There are too many guys who are hungry not only for a ring - but for legacy - with Kobe and PJ being the foremost leaders who will obviously set the tone in that regard.

I am realistic enough to know that 82-0 is an uber-long-shot. It is possible? Of course - anything is possible. Is it probable? Well now we're getting into the heart of the matter. I hate to say no it will never happen. I'm looking on the GHF side and will stop at saying I'm holding out for it until I stare directly into the cold eyes of defeat. Then I'll revise my bandwagon, add a couple more wheels, and keep rolling onward.

The X factor this year is health - that's it. We stay healthy - we win. I see that as being the inevitable outcome to this season.

This team is special. All they need to do is win one game at a time. Focus on the here and now, and take care of the business at hand. The records this year will fall where they may - and I think they may be phenomenal. That said, the only one I truly care about - as you do - is the Larry O being hoisted by The Show in June. THAT will be our legacy.

My take on 72-wins? Don't make it a goal, but if it happens, it happens. The only goal for this team is a 17th ring, if Phil's gotta rest Kobe, Pau - everyone to give the Lakers a better chance at making it happen, then do it!

- - -

mamba: I'm officially reserving my seat on the 17th title bandwagon! I want a window seat, especially since WE GOT THIS ONE!!!!!

- - -

LRob: A quick look at Rondo's stats show him at 47% for the year, 48.8% lifetime. I didn't realize that his numbers were that high, I imagined him being somewhere around 45% or lower. That isn't bad for a PG, and especially one that is so maligned for his shooting. Interestingly, Kidd is under 35 % (and Farmar at 29.5%).

- - -

I'm afraid of doing more than 5 minute stretches sitting on this computer chair right now. I really gotta make a trip to Staples and find a decent one. This stupid thing even tilts 5 degrees or so to the left unless one puts more weight on the right side. lol...

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Whatever happened to Craig Hodges? Since the Rifleman is the official shooting coach does Hodges still do anything with the Lakers? Posted by: LRob | November 09, 2010 at 08:43 AM

A very good question. I like Hodges. It pissed me off when the NBA Blackballed him when he was the reigning 3 time 3-point shooting champion. He couldn't find a job for years till The Lakers hired him. He's a real good guy, does all kinds of things for the community with no ulterior motive or press releases.

(02) RICK FRIEDMAN - CO-OWNER
(03) FAN OF THE MAMBA – DRIVER1 –
(04) LAKERFANINCOWTOWN – DRIVER2 - By the way, I agree with someone's previous
statement (sorry can't remember who) that this is going to be an epic season. Not only is it
going to be Banner #17, and a record 4th three-peat for Jackson, but I think Phil's gonna
want more. Breaking the 72 win record, breaking the 33 game streak record, perhaps even
16-0 in the playoffs. I've been on the 82-0 bandwagon since day 1!
(05) HTJ - RIDING SHOTGUN - 82-0 Bandwagon still in effect. Just 77 more. We got this!
(06) MAMBA24 – I just follow where the Head of my Family leads folks
(07) MAMBA24BG- I just follow my Dad.
(08) SEGEBOY/TALIQ – SHERIFF
(09) KB2FOE - need a lift, folks. How about that 82-0 bandwagon?
(10 CYBERCOSMIX - Lakers 82-0 bandwagon: 82-0? I'm in! But why 82-0? How about 98-0! That'll be just about right! =)

(02) ZAIRA AMATERASU - GODDESS - have called for number 17th after first game ;) I belong naturally to any ring assured type of bandwagon man ;) This year we have THE TEAM. THE TEAM with a killer bench. We can sustain anything (excellent game analysis Mark, I can't say anything more, nor different). We are just so impressive I'm almost scared by the way we seem to roll. Sure, soon or later we will lose but that's not gonna be a drama (I know it will be here for some, but not for me at all).

(30) JOLLY RANCHER - Oh yeah, WE GOT THIS!!!

Count me in on the Craig Hodges fanclub. I LOVE how he lays it out there and tells it like it is, pulls no punches. I also love how he always gives Tex Winter his due, he's like a Tex disciple. I've wondered for the past few years why the club hasn't made him a full-on assistant coach.

That man could shoot! When you win 3-straight 3-pt shooting contests, that is something else! He still looks like he could lace them up right now too.

Agreed. Another reason I didn't like MJ.

Morning Larry, morning justa, morning crue - GAMEDAY! Won't make it onto the chat until later in the 2nd half, but will check you all later. Here comes 8-0...and counting. Please put me on the 82-0, Title #17, and MM should grow a pornstache bandwagons.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Cyber - Yeah and Kidd is career 40% shooter.

ChicNstu - I only said I believed he would become an adequate jump shooter when Ray Ray leaves. So he has a 3-4 year window to prove me right or wrong. I think Blitz misunderstood my initial comments

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning Laker fam! Haven't checked in for a while.. Heart of football season, and for the first time in 8 years, my Raiders are still relevant after week 5! But what a start to the season by the no doubt 3 peat champs. Blake is the upgrade we thought we were getting, LO has been phenomenal, Pau has stepped up to"nobody can check me" status, and Barnes, love the energy and tenacity he brings off the bench. Shannon..whatever training you did, please go back there every offseason, wow he's tearing it up. I like DC and DE also, DC has been lost defensively at times, but he looks like a serious keeper that will really start to get it midway this year. O and Kobe is Kobe, lol, most complete team we've seen during this 4 year and hopefully longer run"Don't leave now Phil! first 4 peat can be achieved" The defense, while still needs shoring up has been alot better than I anticipated w/o Drew there early to anchor the middle. That's the most exciting thing, there's no reason to rush him back, and when he gets back... oooooo man :)

Please put me on the MM should grow a pornstache bandwagon as well. And then a little wacka-wacka-wacka guitar set behind his game-summation videos.

I don't think even an adequate shoooter. At most a mediocre one similar to Derrick Rose.

Adequate is having the qualities or resources to meet a task. I believe Rondo will fit this bill. Derrick Rose is already adequate.

Heck, why not, count me in on the MM pornstache bandwagon too! =P

- - -

LRob: That is pretty amazing, Kidd at 40%, Rondo at nearly 49%. Yes, Rondo takes more layups, but still...

Rondo has good enough form, I think that when his jumper starts dropping, and I agree it will, he's going to be one heck of a tough matchup (if he isn't already now, lol). Props to Rivers for bringing him along as well as he has...

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Posted by: justanothermambafan | November 09, 2010 at 08:47 AM

raiderlaker1980: "Heart of football season, and for the first time in 8 years, my Raiders are still relevant after week 5! "

Yeah, it's been a long, bumpy road from then lol.

Lakers perfect, Raiders winning, Galaxy advancing to Western Conf Final, heck, even the (hockey) Kings are winning for those that follow puck. All is good!

GO LAKERS!!!!!

OK, tempting fate, or at least a sore back, gotta hit the heatpack some lol...

Kevin love is averaging a measly 26 MIN a game this year... So per broussards article, rambis may not be on crystal meth but he sure has the brain of someone on drugs.

Season barely started and wolves are already the indisputable worst team in the league at 1-6 and losing by an average of 23 pts per game.. He's quickly losing control and players are already quitting on him

Sorry lakerfans but the phil wannabe days r definitely numbered in minny.

Justa and Cyber,
Eventhough health is the X factor this team is deep enough to withstand some injuries in the starting lineup. If Derek goes down, Blake will step in. If Artest gets hurt, Barnes is up to the challenge, Bynum is out and Odom and Gasol are filling in phenomenally. The only players that may be critical if they get hurt are Pau and Kobe, but even if they are out of the lineup, I believe that with a healthy Bynum and the way S. Brown is playing, they may be OK. Kobe can not be replaced, however, if the Lakers truly grasp the team concept of the triangle offense, and tighten up the defense, they can overcome. Let's hope that we stay healthy and keep cruisng on the road to numero 17.
Cyber, how about the Raidahs. Nice win this weekend!

I agree with Cyber, if 73 happens, it happens.

It's not like the Lakers won't try to win every game.

But down the stretch some players might get more rest than others.

LA Lakers 2009-2010 Back-to-Back NBA Champions

ugh, saw yellofever post above, had to respond...

I agree that Rambis seems to be mishandling K-Love. He had Anthony Tolliver (!?!) closing out game 1 or 2 over Love, saying he was showing more energy. Their owner even supposedly told Rambis to play Love more. Sure, Tolliver might have played well on that night, but after Rambis already screwed around with Love's minutes the season before, dragging him out to L.A. during the playoffs to sit together and watch the game, supposedly to 'get on the same page' then start the season and bench him in the first close game - well this isn't how to treat a supposed 'franchise player' like Love.

I love Rambis, he is a Laker through-and-through. But I always remember how Shaq/Kobe turned on him during the lockout season, saying how his demeanor changed the moment he became head coach. Sure, the pressure goes up 10000x fold, still, one has to be true to who they are. I'm sure bringing in The Worm at the same time might have had something to do with it, but for whatever reason Rambis struggled then - as he has now - as head coach.

Rambis might be a great assistant, but not so sure that he's head coaching material. I will admit to being glad that he's no longer considered to be the Laker coach-in-waiting - in my eyes that should be B-Shaw, with D-Fish sliding over on the bench to be his assistant...

GO LAKERS!!!!!

OK, really don't want a sore back so now I'm really out for some! lol

CALLING MAGIC PHIL!!! CALLING MAGIC PHIL!!!

Good evening Fam!!!

After the well due comment on our newest Laker Blogger (whom I hope is gonna post often here) and after having me on knee begging you ALL to submit profiles to Mark, here we go... another game on the horizon, and we all feel so very confident (let's admit, it's easier with the perspective of facing Timberkittens, while I am way less certain the game after, at Thuggets home...), which is natural and good, but hopefully not that kind of good which will reveal itself to be a double edged knife.

I read all posts as usual and I just loved this one by Edwin, which I agree completely with:

"First of all, let me greet my buddy Rick who is back in true form. Our prayers have been answered. Keep it up that way.

Kobe's skills have not diminished at but still @85% on knee rehab. He is still in a preseason mode. The older you get, it longer the warm-up to reach the boiling point. It appears that he is no longer desperate to be the sole scorer or shoot at will like in the past years because the rock falls into his hands on every last few seconds. He was forced to carry the load of scoring and jacks up 30 attempts per game. Today, he recognizes the talents on the floor. My dream scenario that someday LO will become a combination of "Jr-Magic and Jr-Scottie" is already happening after discovering the hidden treasures in the FIBA exposure. LO is no longer inconsistent sugar coated gunner but a real threat that commands attention from all teams. Gasol became standby Tower in the post with less efforts, no longer double teamed like in Memphis because of the Laker spacing of possible threats in the perimeter. All teams are confused who to guard in the Laker line-up. These ease in scoring were brought about by tremendous contribution of the killer bees plus the defense mentality of new Lakers. The Lakers are just an overachieving team this season diametrically opposite than the Lakers during Scrubs Era. The passing of the ball is just fantastic based on prescription of PJ and coaches, you can't ask more from it. You don't see anymore players standing around looking for Kobe (Or Farmar dribbling till it becomes a TO or Walton passing the ball at will & afraid to shoot) Therefore, Kobe's talent are in semi hibernation not needed during the season but would be available as need arises or during the playoffs. There are still 4 more players waiting on the wing eager to join in the future namely: Bynum, Sasha, Walton and Ebanks. The goal is get home court advantage and if they break some records along the way, fine. If not, lose some games but avoid injuries, so much the better. There are still so many games to be played, many months to play to say we are already there. While we are in pre-Christmas mode, let's enjoy what the Lakers bring and gifts given to them by other teams. Don't jinx it by making unrealistic predictions or over exuberance because they are winning. The mojo in every game should be: keep it up and we can be better in the next game. Anything and anytime could change in NBA if standards are lowered.

Posted by: Edwin Gueco | November 08, 2010 at 12:27 PM".

I also agreed with LRob about his note on lacking of Alpha Male Lead factor in one of Pau's latest answers about his long play in these starting games; but I'll say it again... Pau is the best PF in the whole NBA, one of the greatest players ever in that role and he would be the diamond cut stone in any other team.
More importantly, what matters is that he's getting better and better and thanx to his incredible skills we can cruise.

Honestly... I don't see why we have to worry or push internal competition while all our players have the same goal and right now they really look and play oiled perfectly to reach it in style.

We are at a wonderful place and pace and I really feel smooooooooth.

I will love to see how we develop all that we've been gifted with this year.
I'm excited and I don't really feel a threat.

I also adored MM analysis about the not need of the 73 victories... agree in any aspect with what you wrote... but I also really loved what Al Franken said, which I found really apt: it's Zen if we don't pursue a 72 win, but if we'll allow them coming through the way we will "zen master" develop.

I loved it.
It's true and it works in the line of what I was writing the other day about PJ's take at reaching the most comfortable seat in the West and in The League to get court advantage.
It's a pursue... of a Zen kind in fact.

Just let me also post what my Divine A. Just tweeted (thanked after by Lakers twitter... of course):

"It's offensive that @lakers aren't number one in the power rankings..they have been playing the best basketball without question...#shameful"

This shows how much infectious is the anti-Lakers bias.
It's not about calculating rankings... I get we might have faced not huge teams but for sure they looked that especially because we are also this great.

BSPN and everyone flips between a blind refusal of us to lame occasional and evil bandwagonism such as when they praise us just to try to stir up controversy (we play good, but we play short; we play good, but Kobe don't shot, we play good, but Kobe shots too much, we play good, but what when Bynum will be back...? - note my rhyming... LOL... imagine a Kanye West kinda rap over Power-like music...).

I saw Celtics lose to Mavs...the game could have gone either way and Mavs still deficitary in many ways... but do you think they'll attack Celts like they would attack us if we lose with Thuggets? No way.

I can't stand that.

I get that they are forced to create a competitor(s) to sell more and the united States Of LakerDominance are their worst dreams but camon... it's clear that we stay quite a bit up and above the rest.

You won't get a disease if you admit it albeit sporadically.

Camon...

We are good kids ;)

Little notes: Cali... I didn't really understand what you were meant to ask me in that kind of Google Translated Italian ;) dear... those kind of translator really are bad and never reach the complexity of our grammar... let alone the variate vocabulary of us ;)... I guess you were asking about Victoria's Secret?

If I have first stuff pics I'll post them from Twitter ;)... but my friend this morning wasn't yet at the photo op ;)

Laker Lass!!!! Dear!!!! I'm still wait for your mail so that I can share with you Florentianian goods for your incoming shining time :) :) :) Do you still have my mail right? In case not let me know here and I will write it down :)

Last note... Larry dear I loved the little adding you made in the roll call in my list of words about Lakers Glory... you always are so ready to be awesome and you manage to do that quite flawlessly and effortlessly :)

I'm not like you, and that's why I keep merging and mixing Shake & Healing ;) LOL...

Still a great thing (and don't fool me man... I saw your family... you sure know what I mean if you have such a beautiful one ;))

Music for today comes first from a wonderful tv show that yesterday blessed my wounded, poor Country (Vieni Via Con Me).
The title is taken by Paolo Conte's awesome song, that I let you hear (the words are awesome... hopefully you can find a translation somewhere... it's one of the greatest italian songs ever:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJKX9Z86WuY

Yesterday Roberto Benigni did a rendition of it that made me cry, following all that he did in that show.

Please you all... when you feel particularly empathic.... send your great vibes to my poor Land... and don't take us as all fools (since whom we have elected). We are good people.
Just lazy.
Sadly.

LLL, catch you in chat game, Z. :)

LRob - you're a dangerous man. Least favorite of all Blondie albums but good call on your part (par for the course, of course). Goin' on the Beast motif, one of my favorite unsung bands (though not one of their best songs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNuOSCM9ShQ

To comment on Rambis:
Laker first, head coach second. Ther are other teams with one win that look much better than Minn. Eventhough I believe Minn. has more talent across the board, they are not on the same page. Not sure if it's a case of trying to implement the traingle O with the wrong personnel or what. I think the Lakers need to keep an eye for players in that system that are learning the triangle and make a move for them in the future.
Byron Scott on the other hand, a true Laker and head coach. Shaw or Scott get my vote for Phil's replacement after a fourpeat.

Oh how good the smell of a W cooking!!!

No, No, No! Rambis is doing this ISH on purpose. He knows this is Phils last year, so he wants to get fired, collect his paycheck and have lot's of time to prepare for the job which will surely be his when Phil leaves. There is no doubt if he had not left the Lakers he was Phil's heir appparent and now with a Head coaching stint under his belt his resume is just that much stronger. If he is fired no doubt Phil will pick him up as an assitant coach and so the transition will be a seamless one from Phil to Kurt. OK folks don't all attack me at once! LOL!

@63 Footer - Definitely unsung. That was cool.

@Zaira - Very smooth. Now you got me ready to throw on some Sinatra.

@Edwin - Kobe in semi-hibernation...great line.

Hi all - a little late to the game day roll call. I am present. Justa - nice summary this a.m. Zaira - cheers to you!

Much has been said about LO's strong start. I think its due to Team USA but I also think its his emotional state. When you have a locker room with no discord, the on-court success is evident.

I would like to throw this out there.... I think Jordy's bad attitude really affected the team. Case in point...

Last year, LO was really inconsistent. But even he admits to being a very emotional person (watch the Kardashians). Prior to last season PJ told LO he would be the veteran leader of the bench. And I think he took that to heart. When the bench was in disarray, LO was in disarray and indecisive.

And I think Jordy had a lot to do with that. When you have one bad apple.... Sasha had a bad Summer and was waived from his national team and injured - discord spreads to Sasha, etc.

Now - just watch LO. Watch him with the starters, watch him with the bench. He's leading, he's running, he's decisive and excited. If LO is happy and able to play to his natural skills and persona, I think the team is happy.

There's a lot of good that come's with team chemistry....

Cheers - PLG

Mamba24- Gotta love the conspiracy theories. The only thing Kurt can do for us is give us the inside track on which players may make future Lakers greats. Maybe he can work out a deal for Sasha and Luke, and we end up with, oh say... Wesley Johnson and Rubio. Then he can have first dibs at Phil's job. I'm sure Kevin Love will automatically follow him, don't you?

PsychedLakerGirl - nice thoughts on LO. We may never know what's truth or not, but I'm going with your theory, as it makes me happiest and bodes well for the rest of the season. I'm callin' it the Resonant Emotion Theory:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RatB0NmuWME

PLG,

I think you have a good, valid point there.
That's a nice insightful post about team chemistry.

(05) JEFE101 - As far as Odom's All-Star Quest goes, "Get out of my way Saturn!"
(06) CYBERCOSMIX - L.O. all-star bandwagon: Absolutely L.O. should/will be an all-star! The Lakers should match the 4 all-star count of the '98 team (Shaq/Eddie/Nick/Kobe). How about Kobe/Pau/Drew/L.O. in 2011! Not only will L.O be an all-star, but 6th Man of the Year!!!!!
(07) DON’T BLAME DEL HARRIS - Lamar Odom. All-Star. Nuff said.

(14) ROSS - LO was FIBA great & shows signs of keeping it up! If he does he will be an all star & also win the sixth man
(15) LROB - Yep I'm down with the Lamar All-Star bandwagon. We've been waiting for this LO for a long time. Now that LO's polished up his act and showed he's got the knack He's ready for the Big Time...so says fellow New Yorker Rick James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbWqX8cdnfk

PLG - excellent thoughts on LO.

Outlaw - space/time continuum be dammed - we're after Laker glory here!!! Let nothing stand between us and destiny.

After PLG's post I'm on the banwagon. LO=All-Star.

... or density.....

PsychedLakerGirl - nice thoughts on LO. We may never know what's truth or not, but I'm going with your theory, as it makes me happiest and bodes well for the rest of the season. I'm callin' it the Resonant Emotion Theory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RatB0NmuWME Posted by: 63 Footer | November 09, 2010 at 10:42 AM

GOD#%$$@@!!!!!! I'm nominating you both for The Nobel Prize for Phyics!!!

THIS IS AMAZING!! I GUESS DENSITY HAPPENS!!

Some controversial commentary on the Bleacher Report Power Rankings.
Yes, they have the Lakers at number 1.
But this was a bit surprising:

"The only monkey wrench I can see being thrown into another parade in Los Angeles this point is the return of Andrew Bynum, because he's the 280-pound elephant in the Lakers locker room right now.

Most analysts look at the Lakers' scorching start and say, "Just wait until Bynum comes back, they'll be even better." I disagree. The true catalyst of the team bursting out of the gate is Lamar Odom—you know, the guy whose minutes will diminish when Bynum gets back on the floor.

I know Lakers fans are going to excoriate me for saying this, but this team is better without Bynum hogging valuable minutes. If I'm Mitch Kupchak, I'm on the horn trying to trade Bynum for a defensive stalwart point guard that can knock down threes and an expiring contract. That's all I want.

Some analysts say, "Just wait until Bynum comes back"; well, that could just be what the opponents have been waiting for as well."

Posted by: Laker J | November 09, 2010 at 10:41 AM

Damn LakerJ, You're good at this stuff!!!! LOL!

LAMAR ODOM ALL-STAR OR BUST BANDWAGON
*_______________________________________________________________*
(01) HTJ - OWNER - But on a happier note, how about that Lamar? Finally playing ball like
we'd hoped 5 years ago. 16.6/11.4/3.6/1stl. Sounds like an all-star line to me. And that's a
bandwagon you can throw me on. LO - All Star Game or Bust!
(02) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – CO/OWNER- Alright - can someone please explain why I'm not the owner, driver and manager of the Lamar for ASG and 6th Man of the Year bandwagons?? What's a girl gotta do to get a post about LO read around here? I've been on that bandwagon since he BECAME a Laker. Geez...

(16) LAKERJ - After PLG's post I'm on the banwagon. LO=All-Star.

Nope, we can't limit LO's minutes when Drew comes back. Hopefully his will stay and Kobe and Pau's will drop some. Perhaps Sasha, Luke and Theo just won't play much at all.

Good Morning Lakers Fam,
(one of my fly-bys)

Mamba, Justa,
How do? I see Mamba's rolling out his prediction (feelin' his oats after his prediction on Sunday). But what does the Fabulous One have to say?

Divine Miss Z,
I have your e-mail that is attached to Facebook, but I have not had the chance as yet to write to you. I have a four day weekend starting Thursday so I should be able to send something out. Can't wait to hear your recommendations for my birth city especially since I haven't been back there in over 20 years. Ah, the Ladd and I in Florence, getting married. A pure moment just between the two of us. Bliss. (Geez, I'm actually tearing up.)

Aaaaaanyway (clears throat) back to the Lakers...
As the Fabulous One says, "Game day baby!"

Buddioguy ur streak is over but use this. the boss showed it to me http://sportscomplainer.com it should help . makes it easier to find things. like a sports drudge. alright. well c how u do next time.

I dont see us beeting Boston with out Bynum in a 7 game series!! Or atleast it would be so much harder with out Bynum. Because Gasol and Odom cannot bang bodys with Shaq,Perkis, and Garnet.

NO, Lass, NO! It's too dangerous!! No Healing and Shaking together PLEASE!!!! THE CHILDREN LASS THE CHILDREN!!!!!!

How about something like this in average minutes playing:

Kobe-32
Fish-22
Drew-30
Pau-32
Ron-30

Lamar-30
Blake-24
Browunie-20
Matt-20

Who will succeed Phil Jackson? Shaw, Rambis or Coach K. I say back to Phil Jackson. As long as the Lakers keep on winning, nobody in Laker town is whining then Phil will always extend his stay. Why will u refuse millions while you're writing your record as a Coach. It is like a General who keeps on fighting more wars as long as victories comes with it. It is defeat that people declares retirement. Suddenly, they remember their family, their own mortality and most of all save face.

There is a big intrigue right now with two of our favorite teams who could be in the Finals. Heat are second guessing Bosh while fans and South Floridians are second guessing the move of the owner, how long Erik will last? Meanwhile, in Boston they have different mojo than the Lakers, they want to bypass Winter, All Star and go immediately to playoffs because of their oldies, who are having injuries one after another: knees from the two O'Neals, head job on West and VW and conduct unbecoming thru thuggery on KG. Celtics is a powder keg team about to explode, they want a fast forward season.

Therefore, Lakers give them the usual grind by mixed reading perhaps make this game against Minny a close game to show some window of vulnerability and also give Rambis some confidence, then a "Pacman" TKO against Nuggets on Thursday and Suns on Sunday. Confuse the league, give the media something to write and analyze they need a job!

Did hobbitmage write the Bleacher Report? Just kidding!!! Actually, from an outsider's perspective I can see why someone would think that. Heck, even some of our own insiders think that. But as we have been saying, the Lakers do need interior defense and another big body. I can see Lamar being a key factor so far, but many of us think he will be as effective coming off the bench. As for a defensive stalwart point guard that can hit threes with an expiring contract....hummmm? Luke and Sasha, start packing.

Well Lass - I gotta tell ya - I'm feeling blow-out again tonight.

Art - just for the record - you'll live a longer, happier life if you believe the exact opposite of what those idiots post about the Lakers.

Thanks guys and Justa. Much appreciated. And I should have added - when the team is happy, our blog family is happy :) !

While D-Fish is still my #1 fave, LO is gaining momentum. And I certainly wouldn't have said that 3 years ago. But then again after D-Fish, I love the whole team and would have a hard time ranking all of them. Funny how that happens.......and this is only a Timberwolve game day!

Woohoo! - Cheers - PLG

Understood. I shall purchase the elixir promptly.

GO LAKERS!!!

Please you all... when you feel particularly empathic.... send your great vibes to my poor Land... and don't take us as all fools (since whom we have elected). We are good people.Just lazy. Sadly.Posted by: ZairaAmaterasu | November 09, 2010 at 09:52 AM

WTH? Who, where? Who would dare take your people for fools? Point them out to me Goddess. Retribution will be swift and sure. Any country that could produce a Goddess ZairaAmaterasu is a country that is blessed beyond all measure!!!

Edwin,

I agree with you about Phil, I think if the Lakers win the Rings again this year he will be back next year if health is no issue. This team is now set with contacts for the next few years, minus Sasha, oh well.

I think Erik will stay put in Miami as long as the Heat have one of the top 4 records. If they really falter I can see a change being made maybe mid season, but I expect this is Eriks team for this season.

Boston seems to be playoff ready right now, but April is a ways away and yes about the powder keg.
OKC is the early dud of the season but plenty of time to turn it around.
I think the Spurs are quietly flying under the radar and may surprise this year.

I am also of the opinion that PJ will be back next year - health providing - to take a shot at the illusive Quat-row. And YES - we're winning the 3-peat this year.

Funny, but geepers, all it will take to live a longer, happier life is to ignore the B.R.? Not sure if I can, they are usually good for a chuckle now and then.

@PsychedLakerGirl

Excellent take on Lamar's newfound exubriance on the court! I agree100%.

It's like he's been playing in a fog during his previous seasons as a Laker. Sometimes the fog would dissipate, the sun would shine, and he would have a great game. Then the fog would inevitably roll in and he would have an ineffective game.

And YES - we're winning the 3-peat this year. Posted by: justanothermambafan | November 09, 2010 at 11:27 AM

Get down Mclyne with your bad self!!!!

@Outlaw - Cool. I'll look for the profile

I'm going to have pass on the porn stache. I've tried the facial hair look and it doesn't work. hah

Happy game day Mamba.....please put me on all the bandwagons. I have a feeling the starters will be on the bench in the 4th quarter wildly cheering for THE RENEGADES!!!

"I also don't see a lack of focus being an issue. There are too many guys who are hungry not only for a ring - but for legacy - with Kobe and PJ being the foremost leaders who will obviously set the tone in that regard."

I couldn't agree more. No one on this team will get away with "loafing" in practice or in a game; too many members of this team have a desire for the "ringy thingy!"

It will be interesting to see how "Drew" is brought back into the lineup and the effect that he will have on the team. I hope I can eat my words about him; Lamar and Shannon made me it mine and let me tell you: those words were DELICIOUS!!!

GO LAKERS & IN BUSS WE TRUST!! MITCH K - Executive Of The Year.
