Ringing in the new season

Trophy_400

The Lakers begin their championship defense Tuesday night against Houston, but not without one final look at last season.

They'll receive their championship rings at 7:10 p.m., 20 minutes before tipoff against the Rockets, though it'll be only a temporary possession for one player.

Ron Artest still plans to give away his ring and will offer $2 raffle tickets later this week on his website, Ronartest.com, with a minimum purchase of five tickets.

"I was only disappointed because I heard the ring was going to be really big this year," Artest said. "I'm probably going to get a duplicate for my wife, but the original, the first one that we get as a team, is going up [for raffle]."

Artest went on to say that auctioning off the ring outweighed the benefit of keeping it. He plans on donating funds from the raffle to a pair of undisclosed mental-health causes.

TNT has exclusive rights to broadcast Tuesday night's game and plans to carry the ceremony live, with the pregame show starting at 7 p.m.

NBA Opening Night !

Music to the ears of Lakers fans the world over.

LakersNation rejoices

Realm of Royal Purple & Gold

A continent away the Evil Green Empire gnashes its teeth remembering Game 7, and to quote J.R.R. Tolkien, "Stirs the cup of bitterness" they have poured for themselves.

It is good to be back amidst my Lakers Blog brethren.

What a glorious and eventful summer it has been...

Mamba24, LEWSTERS, where is my name on the Bus and the Rollcalls? Is it really: Out of sight, out of mind for me? Say it aint so.

RON RON IS NOT CHURLISH NOR CHILDISH - lakerfan

What do you know about RonRon, you're a coward guerrilla raiding this blog and good in imitations and changing handles. I wonder why MM allow a poster like you who is good in spitting venomous posts. We tolerated you throughout summer and you are still here at the opening of the season. Either you keep up with civil or just permanently shut up. Go to the Celtic blog, you don't belong here racist bummer!

And we can never go wrong with the Man in Black, or the Black Mamba.

To the newcomers: use this as inspiration

don't let this happen or you too will be playing for Turkey!

You know what I love about tonight? It's not just that Phil is getting ring #11, or that Kobe and Fish are getting #5, or that it's #2 for Gasol, Odom, Bynum, Shannon, Sasha, and Walton, or even that it's going to be #1 for Thriller/Artest - what's going to be great is that Blake, Barnes, Ratliff, Ebanks, and Caracter are all going to find out what's it's ALL ABOUT at about 7:10pm tonight. The bar is going to be set, once again, and those guys are going to understand what it truly is to be part of this legacy of greatness. It all finally starts TONIGHT!

AW HELL NAW!!! You say what? No Purple &Gold Reign on the Bus or Roll Call? Now this kind of thing is simply intolerable! I will inform Mamba24 of this miscarriage of justice immediately!! Wait...I'm mamba24...MY Bad! Sorry my brother I take full responsibility and I can promise that such a thing will not happen again!! Or I will personally Fire mamba24's @zz!! Wait a minute, I'm Mamba24. OK i'm putting it on at this very moment! Sorrrrrry!

i am aware of the Friedman Award. is that "in memoriam"

where is Rick? did he fall of the bus?

LTLL: "So there's this guy that comes into my work every day yakking about the Heat, and how he loves them and they're gonna kill the Lakers. So I ask him "Hey, how long will Miller be out?" He says "Miller's injured?" WTH!!! So I say to him "You'll be watching the Heat play the C's tonight. And you know what I'll be watching? I'll be watching THE LAKERS GET THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS!!!!!" HA! He ran out the door really fast just shaking his head and making faces. What a tool."

63 Footer: "longtimelakerlover - with great power comes great responsibility... to mess with all those non-Lakers fans. "I pity the fools!"

ROFL

But it is so hard not to tease them! It is true that as Laker fans we must flaunt and brag wisely, but much like it is just so hard to resist tapping on the glass at a pet store, sometimes it is just too hard to resist cracking on fans of lesser teams (all 29 of them!).

Poor office guy though. The guy's has to root for a generally losing team, and now that they got their 'scared-3', all he has to look forward to is regular season success and a postseason flameout... poor, poor guy... LOL

Magic Phil: "still morning for me...until I read the blog."

LOL. I'm with you there. Doesn't matter what time of day it may be, whatever the reason, the day hasn't truly begun until reading the blog!

GO LAKERS!!!!!

less than 2 hours until TNT pregame, when Barkley will finally crackback on the little princess!!!

"what's going to be great is that Blake, Barnes, Ratliff, Ebanks, and Caracter are all going to find out what's it's ALL ABOUT at about 7:10pm tonight."

They will be friggin' motivated to THE MAX!!

One More Time!

How much money can be raised from a raffle? $ 10,000, $ 50,000 not enough to fork the campaign for mental illness.

However, if Artest will use the ring as inspiration for a league of volunteers for mental illness by passing this ring around, then perhaps it will create mileage. It is like establishing a cadre of volunteers similar to the Peace Corps who will be going from one high school to another preaching mental illness among trouble kids. While they are in that school, the will carry the Artest ring which becomes symbol of healing and inspiration for all. When the ring passes from one hand to another by a million times, it has gained more mileage than selling it to a collector who will just use it for profit. Artest should start with this ring, next his shoes, his Championship jerseys and pants, Artest becomes a saint. LMAO!

the Activator: "where is Rick? did he fall of the bus?"

oh man, hope it didn't run him over or something because it's really movin' today! I bet he's on the top double-deck taking shots of vodka with CaliPhilosopher, justa and mamba24. Come to think of it that sounds like fun, count me in!

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Mamba23- Now that's funny, you're FIRED...lol

Mamba23- My BAD, Mamba24

found this on SS&R - hilarious

"WALTHAM, Mass. — Paul Pierce was out to lunch at Johnny Rockets in his native Los Angeles this past summer when he noticed a young man come in, buy a burger, and do a double-take when he spotted the Celtics star. Instead of approaching Pierce, the teenager quickly dashed out of the restaurant. Pierce wasn’t sure why the kid was in such a hurry — until he returned about 10 minutes later.

“He came back with the biggest Lakers flag I’ve ever seen,” Pierce said. “Asked me to sign it. I snatched that thing from him and threw it [across the room].”

No, Pierce hasn’t recovered from the excruciating Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals in June. His frustration over missing 10 of 15 shots in the deciding game lingers, along with the knowledge that opportunities to win it all are fleeting, particularly when you reach an age when your body can betray you at any time, as Pierce’s repeatedly did throughout the 2009-10 season."

"less than 2 hours until TNT pregame, when Barkley will finally crackback on the little princess!!!"

LMAO!!

Shaq going to bid for Artest's ring so he can get even with Kobe's five ring.

OneLakerNation - "Shaq going to bid for Artest's ring so he can get even with Kobe's five ring."

Okay - that was funny.

GAME ON! SEASON ON!

Mini Banner Holderette is sick with a fever so I've been playing Doctor Daddy today - just got online.

LET US PRAY!

Dear Lord, we thank You for all of Your blessings. For life, health, strength & VICTORY, we give You praise!

We thank You for granting our Lakers another championship summer! They fought hard and emerged victorious over our arch enemy. We have cheered. We have celebrated. We have partied all summer long. And tonight, we will receive another coronation and BANNER RAISING which we will receive in honor and gladness! Thank You once again for carrying us to the mountaintop once again!

Having said all that, we know that today is a new day. A new season. A new journey up the mountaintop. A new set of adversaries to go along with the defeated one of June 2010. A new challenge. A new chart to course. A new set of 82 games. We pray, as always, that our Lakers play 82 complete games of intense, focused, disciplined and determined NBA basketball. May they chase every rebound. May they challenge every opposing shot with authority. May they remain united as a team. May their shots fall like rain. May their free throws effortlessly glide into the hoop. May Kobe/Pau/Ron/LO/Fish & Sasha continue to follow the game plan that led them to back to back championships and 3 in a row finals appearances. May Steve Blake, Matt Barnes, Theo Ratliff, Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter adapt smoothly and effortlessly into the framework of the Purple & Gold. May they stand united. May they submit to Phil & the coaches' authority. Lead them onward and upward to another season's full of victory.

Once again, may you heal our injured soldiers Andrew Bynum and Luke Walton - especially Andrew. Strenghten and heal his knee. Let him rise past the pain and the expectations and send him back in Your time...and may he work with Pau & LO to be a solid defensive wall that will overcome every drive into the paint and every lunge at the hoop!

We thank You for the new season. We thank You for the ring ceremony. We thank You for the unity on our LA Times Lakers Blog. Continue to use MM & Dan the Man to lead and guide our discussions. Let us continue to silence every troll and to stay hopeful despite all adversity.

And...as always...we thank You for answered prayer. Now LET'S RAISE UP THE SIXTEENTH BANNER AND GO AFTER #17 WITH ALL THE PASSION AND STRENGTH WITHIN US!!!

AMEN!

Pierce should've signed that flag... In the end, it's just a game and players should be grateful that fans are willing to watch which is how they get paid. Oh well...

First thing first...Once the season starts, the Lakers should focus on the Western Conference teams to make sure they come out of the West smoothly. Any team comes out of the East will be beaten dog by the time gets to the Finals as you may well witness tonight.

AMEN!!!!! Utz...Great pre-game prayer...

Lakers Dynasty - The Next Generation...

#17 Coming Up!!!

I hope Andrew Bynum gets big ovation tonight to show him our supports and for his well-deserved ring.

AMEN! AND GOD BLESS MINI BANNER HOLDERETTE!!!

I hope Adam Morrison will be there to get his ring tonight...Then he would sit by Jimmy Kimmel after the ring ceremony.
