District attorney's office will not file charges against Lakers forward Matt Barnes

Citing insufficient evidence, the Sacramento district attorney's office announced on Monday that it would not file domestic-abuse charges against Lakers forward Matt Barnes.

Barnes was arrested last month on suspicion of domestic violence after an alleged altercation with his fiancée in suburban Sacramento.

Police officers who responded to a 911 call on Sept. 8 said there was evidence of an altercation, but Barnes' fiancée later disputed the charges.

Barnes signed a two-year deal with the Lakers in July.

One less problem for the Lakers down; hopefully, whatever happened is being addressed on the personal side.

Well, I just hope that this means that they both got loud, as I am in no way a proponent of domestic violence.

I also hope that their relationship will be a healthy one from here on out.

Activator

No worries. Feel free to include my name to any luke bashing campaigns at your disposal

I am a luke hater and will proudly admit it. Lol

And since we're on the subject I am also:

Kobe homer
Bynum pessimist
Artest loyalist
Dfish incredulist?
Blake optimist
Barnes supporter
sasha doubter

The long list of Lakers mysogynists grows:

Kobe Bryant
Tracy Murray
Anthony Peeler
Magic Johnson
Shaquille O'Neal
Wilt Chamberlain
Dennis Rodman
AC Green
Ruben Patterson
Matt Barnes

This is good. Hopefully everyone will calm down, if not already, and recognize that no one wins in any kind of violent or abusive situation. I hope help is on the way and all will turn out well to the betterment of this family and their children.

That said - one less distraction is always good news in Lakerland.

Hopefully, the entire Barnes family can put this incident behind them and move forward in a positive, healing way.

Justa: Congratulations on the RCOTD! Well said, indeed. Does this mean that you're actually going to the All-Star game with MM? Seems like fate now, doesn't it?

What's with all this Pau bashing, Activator? Pau has been -- and continues to be -- the most consistent player in a Lakers uniform. He is finesse. He is skills. He is equilibrium. He is "team." He is MONEY. Would you rather have Dirk? I shiver at the thought.

Go Lake Show!

THANKS EVERYONE for the RCOTD props. I still think MM's crazy to give me the coveted Friedman Award for what I said, but hey - I'll take it LOL! Can never have too many Friedman Awards, right? They may just add up to 1 ticket to the ASG in LA with MM.....

Hey Lebron - have you seen my 7 Friedman Awards? They were here just a minute ago...

justanothermambafan - Lebron was claiming that if it weren't for the race card, he'd get at least 7 Friedman Awards, maybe 700. David Stern heard, and is now putting pressure on MM to make "fairer" calls when it comes to King James. I hope MM doesn't buckle to the pressure. Stern wanted to allow something called the "Crab Post," whatever that is.

Outlaw,

how is your baby? no longer a baby Outlaw but a real outlaw on the run. haha!

Activator wants Gassy to a hard boiled instead of soft boiled. I looked on the softness as a weapon too and he's consistent in contributing to the Lakers and still standing. If Gassy is hard boiled, he could be injured by constant clash in the post, he could alter his soft touch and missed those sweet looking hook shots, it could destroy his Euro rhythmic play and convert him to pure brash American muscle and brawn but could not catch the ball like Kwame. Thank God we have Pau, Kobe and Fish in the roster, they were able to fill the missing links in the two consecutive championship. To wish more from Pau's defense is a good wish but "as-is" he is already a player worthy to be called Laker for life.

A SEASON FOR THE AGES !!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every once in a blue moon, a single shining season rises above the ordinary and enters the rare realm of the extraordinary. For Los Angeles Lakers fans, this is going to be that season. I predict the Lakers will win their second three-peat, Phil Jackson will win his fourth three-peat, Kobe Bryant will tie Michael Jordan with his second three-peat and his sixth ring, and the Lakers will tie the Celtics with their 17th NBA championship.
~
Despite starting the season with Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum still recovering from offseason knee surgery, I expect the Lakers to get off to a fast start and to establish themselves as still the team through which NBA championship contenders must tread. I like the pressure that Phil Jackson is putting on Pau Gasol to carry the team until Kobe and Drew are fully healthy and ready to go. Pau needs to come up big, especially on defense where he often plays soft preferring not to risk picking up fouls that would send him to the bench.
~
Personally, I think the three huge surprises this year are going to be the play of Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, and Andrew Bynum. Already in full regular season mode and fresh from his FIBA world championship, Lamar may finally have a shot at making the All-Star team and even winning a well-deserved Sixth Man of the Year award. Continuing his great play from Game 7 last year, Ron has shed weight and looks like a lock to win back his spot on the All-NBA defensive team and compete strongly for Defensive Player of the year award. And that’s not counting the fact that Ron is suddenly looking like a player who understands the offense and can be a big time scorer when the team needs it. I expect Pau and Ron to be the best starting forward duo in the NBA this year.
~
The most important key to the Lakers achieving and surpassing expectations this year will be a healthy and focused Andrew Bynum, who will finally finish a year with a strong dominating performances in both the regular season and the playoffs. Drew has a shot this year to win his first All-Star team selection as well as put to rest worries about his ability to stay healthy and demonstrate the beastly hops and athleticism that have tantalized Lakers fans as he struggled to overcome a series of freak injuries. This year, Drew will finally earn recognition as the best all-around center in the entire league and the Lakers future franchise player.
~
With improved play from Gasol, Odom, Artest, and Bynum, a greatly upgraded bench mob led by Steve Blake and Matt Barnes, and an unbelievably motivated Kobe Bryant, the Lakers should be able to turn back any challenges from contenders and pretenders. I still think our 2011 Finals opponent will be Boston, who will want to be there to try and keep the Lakers from winning their Celtics-tying 17th NBA championship. In a season for the ages, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers will make basketball history and teach the prognosticators who jumped aboard the Miami Heat Bandwagon why they should not have disrespected the NBA champs.
I wonder if Barms still thinking of getting married? If so, hopefully after the Championship parade.
LEWSTRS - I'm so sorry my friend for not acknowledging your haiku of the day.
It was very, very good.
I'm proud. The pebble will be yours much sooner than I expected.
Say, Truth. What’s A.C. Green doing on your misogyny list? Just ‘cuz he chose to keep his pecker in his pocket doesn’t mean he hated women.
LakerTom,
Excellent post, I love your predictions and optimism. I'm not so sure that Odom, Artest, and Bynum will surpsise us, Lakers fans, with their play. Maybe the rest of the league will be surprised. I'm less optimistic about Andrew Bynum, although, I hope you are 100% right about him, for this truly will benefit the Lakers. Your last paragraph is right on. Let's go Lakers!
@63 FOOTER… “I hung with Rickie Lee Jones a bunch for awhile (which is almost the same thing in some ways). Flying Cowboys is still one of my favs.” Damn it man, you’re making me green with envy. Rickie Lee and Flying Cowboys have always been among my favorites. You DO need to submit your blog profile. I am sure you can do that while still protecting your “anonymity.” Hell, you probably have enough great stories to create multiple profiles. No excuses. You cannot keep tantalizing us with tidbits. We want the real stuff.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@JAMF… Congrats on another Friedman Justa. I’ve lost count. By the way, enough of the excuses. Send in your profile. Nobody is asking you to reveal deep dark secrets (although if the mood is right, we’d love to listen, LOL) so it’s not really any different from any other long passionate post. After you’ve been here long enough, your true personality and character have already shown through. You may not be what you drive or eat, but you are very likely a very talented and funny woman whom we have all grown to love and respect.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@THE ACTIVATOR… Just checking but is that you behind the new screen name, Ouchhhhhhhh? For the record, I know you love to dump on Pau Gasol. While I have at times shared your frustration with Pau for taking weenie shots and sometimes allowing opposing players to run layup drills when he plays center, I still totally respect and appreciate all of the positive things that Pau brings to this team. He is certainly the team’s second best player behind Kobe in my opinion. So give us a hint: do you really want the Lakers to get rid of Pau Gasol and if so, who would you prefer to play power forward? Thanks in advance for your response.
LakerTom - Naw, I'm enjoying being nuthin' but nuthin'.
As for Rickie, there was a bar near a studio I was workin' at, and it was near where she was recording, and we kept coming in at the same time, so I finally went up to her with a bottle of scotch and offered to split it with her, and we became drinking buds after that. I kept bringing in artist friends, and she kept bringing in musician friends, and after awhile it was just sorta the place to hang for a few months.
Years later she was playing at the Wiltern (they were shooting something for that show as I recall), and I managed to say 'hi' again. Never saw her since.
Such is my life.
LakerTom - thanks very much for the kind words. And you're right - my personality has already shone through. So why do you need my profile again? You already know me. LOL!!
Besides - I already told 63 Footer that he has to show me his before I show him mine.
LT
Great post on the upcoming season. You get it. However, putting Gasol-Artest as the best NBA forward tandem over Bosh-James is either interesting or an oversight. I think it's a bit of a stretch, but this is a TEAM sport, so individual match ups only go so far. I agree that Pau has the edge over Bosh, but ....
I'm glad Matt Barnes is off the hook and I can only hope that it was a whole lot of nothing.
Go Lakers! #17 coming up STRONG!!
I still think the biggest surprise of the Lakers early in the season will be Derrick Caracter. The guy is a monster down low and goes after every rebound, he pushes big guys around like they are little kids..
After all these, he likes to finsih strong. That's a baby beast, ala Bynum, he gathers himself after a rebound and likes to operate with a SLAM DUNK.
Caracter low post offense is also way ahead of every rookie big man. 1) He naturally ask for the ball everytime down low with his back to the basket, 2) aggressively positions himself to get the ball, 3) then patiently moves closer to the rim using his strength 4) before releasing his final footwork and moves towards the hoop. 5) He has both soft touch and power finish to cap it off, a lethal combination.
Not Odom, Powell, Mbenga able to do any of these moves he makes. Gasol is an expert on this, but lacks the power when confronted by heavier guys, but very effective with lightweight Power Forwards in the league.
Staples 24
Interestingly, I think Caracter will see very little playing time this season. Remember, he was drafted at #58 for a reason. I do love that we finally have a Millsap/Blair type of player, but there's a reason the Lakers have shied away from these types of power forwards. LENGTH. While teams like the Nuggets and Jazz have more physical, shorter bigs, the Lakers have won back-to-back championships with the length of Bynum-Gasol-Odom which, in a 7 game series, becomes very bothersome to the Lakers' opponents. Josh Powell is a rugged power forward with a nice mid range game, but he was only so useful. So just like people were all excited about The Stache contributing before last season for a different reason, don't get too excited about Caracter.
Ebanks, on the other hand, presents the length at small forward and sometimes shooting guard that Phil Jackson loves. Considering his likeness to Trevor Ariza, I expect that we'll see more of him than Caracter even with the wonderful logjam we have at the small forward position. His game, length and the type of player he is simply fits.
LakerTom.
I wish you don't predict anymore but just continue those GHF posts for the Lakers. You predicted the Yankees and bowed down at the 6th game. You predicted the Niners and they continue to be out of luck. For friendship's sake don't jinx the Lakers opening season. lol!
After making such a friendly spat, do you need to be defended at all times? just asking you seemed to be untouchable nowadays.
@MVP… “However, putting Gasol-Artest as the best NBA forward tandem over Bosh-James is either interesting or an oversight. I think it's a bit of a stretch, but this is a TEAM sport, so individual match ups only go so far. I agree that Pau has the edge over Bosh, but ....”
~
LOL. I was waiting for somebody to come back and contest that remark. I did actually think about LeBron and Bosh before making that statement and what it comes down to is building a team that fits and works together. I realize that most people would immediately pick LeBron and Bosh over Gasol and Artest, however, if you really look at what they bring to the table for their respective teams, the choice is not a slam dunk by any measure.
~
Unless you were picking a fantasy team, there are solid reasons for picking Gasol and Artest as the best forward duo. Both Gasol and Artest have proven that they can play at a true championship level whereas neither LeBron or Bosh have performed well at the highest level. In fact, LeBron totally bailed out on the Cavs during the playoffs last year and Bosh has never even won a playoff series. While critics can claim that neither LeBron or Bosh ever had the supporting teammates that Gasol and Artest have had, the simple fact remains that the latter have shown they can be clutch in their biggest games while the former have shown nothing to speak of.
~
Additionally, NBA championships are won by defense and there is no doubt that Gasol is a superior defender than Bosh and Artest a superior defender than LeBron. Gasol also has the versatility to backup Andrew Bynum at center as well as playing power forward and is capable of defending players like Dwight Howard one-on-one while Artest can defend and play multiple positions and it probably the league’s top defender among forwards. To me, LeBron until he proves otherwise, is really just a great athlete who does not have a consistent outside shot and has yet to prove that he win or even compete at the highest level. And Bosh in my opinion is a highly rated due to inflated stats from playing on weak teams. Head to head, both Gasol and Bynum outplayed him.
~
Bottom line, who would you prefer to have on your team – and we are not talking about fantasy basketball. Would you trade Pau Gasol and Ron Artest for LeBron James and Chris Bosh? The fans and bloggers who would probably have already anointed the Heat as this year’s NBA champs. Personally, I think that would be a trade of two winners for two losers. Such a trade would make the Lakers a weaker rather than stronger team and destroy the championship chemistry that this team shares. So from a Lakers perspective, the most valuable forward duo in the NBA right now is Pau Gasol and Ron Artest and I stand by that declaration.
Everything happens for a reason..Caracter and Ebanks will make the best out of Bynum and Walton injuries. When both players come back it will only make the Lakers best #1 through #14 roster ever.
Let's enjoy because we are...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vofSgnnnIrI&feature=related
LakerTom busting out a healthy prediction, I'd add one more item, we'll see the emergance of Shannon Brown as a true NBA force to be reckoned with. Judging from pre-season, he looks poised to take a big step forward in terms of his overall game. He played some good help D near the end of camp and his shooting looks pretty solid. Now if he could only make a good, crisp entry pass...
@JAMF - Congrats on being a big WINNER (RCOTD, of course).
@63footer - Being stealthy, eh; it often wins out over strength (something I wish U.S. Presidents would remember, Teddy said it best, "Walk softly and carry a big stick."). Isn't there a way you could do a profile without revealing your secret identity? Maybe do a silhouette picture, comeup with Da Vincian code to hide your name and put us off the scent. I be kidding, mon, by the by. Tis your life and live it that way you shall.
@Zairia - No worries on thinking I'ma lady, I've had to set the Blog straight a time or two (and will most likely need to do so again), but I appreciate you and your unique voice you bring to the Blog. I've said it before and will do so many times, whatta community we got here, eh? Never hard feelings on my part, too many other super serious things in life to deal with.
Can it be tomorrow at 7 already? Thank you.
False accusations of domestic violence against men are common place. Credible research overwhelmingly shows that the ratio of d.v. is at least 50/50 between women & men. http://tinyurl.com/3sakk According to one study by researchers who work at the CDC, in 70% of domestic violence incidents, where the domestic violence is not mutual, it's women who initiate the domestic violence. http://tinyurl.com/yzm9xhe The taxpayer funded domestic violence industry has largely mischaracterized the true nature of d.v. from the beginning and continues to mislead the public. D.V. law follows a gender feminist agenda/ideology over facts in evidence and does great harm to many innocent men (and also many battering women who need help) as shown in "Los Misandry" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAmOxvudpF8
Miami & Boston then RING NIGHT!!
@EDWIN… Sorry, my friend, but I have no intention of NOT making predictions. And I think your constant calling for me to do so is churlish and childish. Why not focus your efforts to police the blog towards the naysayers, haters, and doubters? They’re the ones who need to be reminded that we are the Los Angeles Lakers – not the Los Angeles Clippers. Rain on their parades rather than pissing on mine. Bottom line, if you don’t like what I post, then just scroll on by but don’t expect me to back down and apologize or tone down my optimism just because you’re worried that I might jinx the Lakers.
~
As for the Yankees, they have won more championships than any other major sports franchise in the history of the USA so stop trying to make me act like a dismayed, disgruntled, discouraged Dodger fan. Same with the Niners. They may be in a down period due to poor ownership and coaching but they still have won more Super Bowls than any other team but the Pittsburg Steelers. And at least, we HAVE an NFL team in the Bay area. Can’t say the same for you LA fans (or renegade Rams or Raiders fans).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TOM

False accusations of domestic violence against men are common. Such a false accusation is domestic violence, yet police and prosecutors almost never prosecute such criminals. V.P. Biden recently called violence against women, "the very worst abuse." The very worst abuse is valuing one life less than another for having been born the wrong sex. Under Biden's Violence Against Women Act the wrong sex is men. Shelter and services are virtually non-existent for male victims of domestic violence so those options out of a bad relationship, that are routinely available to women, are very often not available to men. Men wind up gender profiled and often falsely accused by the taxpayer funded, d.v. industry, because of gender feminist ideology controlling the d.v. industry. Men are often battered by domestic violence, and then battered again by the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry.

Lakertom,

'Would you trade Pau Gasol and Ron Artest for LeBron James and Chris Bosh?"

Are u kiddin me? Bynum, Bosh, James, Kobe!!! YOUNG AND ATHLETIC AND CHAMPIONSHIPS, SUREEEEEEEE!!! That's like WIN NOW and WIN MORE later, hello?

James is the perfetct PF in the triangle ala Pippen, point forward, and Kobe like Jordan gets all the ball.

The only advantage of Pau to Bosh is Gasol can be a better C than Bosh, but both as PF very close with slight to Pau. BUT JAMES AND BOSH YOUTH and ATHLCISM IN THIER PRIMES I TAKE.

Brilliant analysis, Tom, but in answer to your question, I'd make that trade yesterday in a heartbeat. As long as we have Andrew Bynum patrolling the paint, I would gladly take my chances on a three-peat with Bosh and LeBron as our starting forwards. Talk about a dynasty!

The only advantage of Pau to Bosh is Gasol can be a better C than Bosh, but both as PF very close with slight to Pau. BUT JAMES AND BOSH YOUTH and ATHLCISM IN THIER PRIMES I TAKE.

So, if you have Bynum at C, Bosh will be a great PF fit for the Lakers. Bosh will never see a double teram again in his entire career playing with Bynum and Kobe. James is a SF, very much like Pippen. James defense will accelerate because he can focus on defense and his play making skills will also accelrate with Bynum dunking all his passes and Kobe's shooting.

These four could win 6 straight championships starting now. Becasue of their still fairly young. I do not think you can do that with Gasol and Artest in their early 30's and Kobe in his mid 30s..

LakerTom, it is not childish or churlish to ask you to restrain from making predictions because the outcome goes against your wish. However, we need always a lakertom in the blog. I can never scroll and pass the opportunity of omitting your posts. On the contrary, we are also hungry for the winner. lol! there are only few occasion nowadays when you get upset, no more presence of GHE's remember Ex and Az, no more Mike T. pointing out the 120 pts but D, no more Hobbit(ual) posts, Kblitz(krieg) is now in total agreement. somebody has to sacrifice and provide the counter flow childish and churlish comments or else you become the blog Napoleon. just kidding lol!

MVP888,

but there's a reason the Lakers have shied away from these types of power forwards. LENGTH. While teams like the Nuggets and Jazz have more physical, shorter bigs, the Lakers have won back-to-back championships with the length of Bynum-Gasol-Odom which, in a 7 game series

First of all Caracter is a lengthy 6'9 bigger and lengtier in winsapn than Millsap and Maxiell. Second, I expect Carcater to play the back PF role, and be the enforcer contributions. Caracter is the perfect back up role player that compliments for the trio of Bynum, Gasol, Odom waeknesses, TOUGHNESS and STRENGTH, bully type who like to push people around. ONever said Caracter should replace Bynum-Gasol-Odom, but if there is a 4th big guy, Caracter can provide that and more.

Ebanks ha salready had the praise of Phil and Kobe, so his contributions is no longer a surprise. it is more of an expecattion already. Remeber I SAID SURPRISE, Yeah?

I'd rather keep Gasol and Artest. They are proven winners and both are class acts.

Granted the 'class act' doesn't translate to championships, but still... I just can't stomach the thought of cheering for the princess and the predator.

The 'proven winners' part DOES translate to championships. I'd rather take my chances with the guys that got us there already versus the girls that don't know what it takes.

As the NBA opening night approaches, I came up with movie analogies for the Lakers and the Heat. The Lakers team is like the best movie of the year directed by a legend director. On the other hand, the Heat is just made for the box office block "bust"-er movie with no substance

MVP888

Either way Caracter and Ebanks will both have a great rookie season just like, they both have a great summer season and pre-season. Their real probelem is they are going to a championship team who even further made thier bench deeper with veterans ready to contribute, Barnes, Ratliff and Blake. So PLAYIN TIME either way will hard to come by for these two TALENTED 2nd rd picks unless Lakers keep getting big margins by 4th qrtr. A VERY GOOD PROBLEM TO HAVE FOR PHIL JACKSON and a bright future for the Lakers.

"I just can't stomach the thought of cheering for the princess and the predator."

LOL!! LOL!! LOL!!

@EDWIN… Sorry, my friend. I didn’t mean to go off on you. You probably pushed the only button that I have not added insulation to get through the season amicably. As I said before, one thing that Lakers, Yankees, and at one time 49ers fans never have had to worry about is lowered expectations. We deserve to be able to proudly publish our personal prognostications – unlike sad and sorry Heat, Suns, Dodgers, Rams, and Raiders fans. It’s the reward that comes with rooting for winners rather than losers. This will be a season for the ages.

Justa, no doubt that was a big part of why I think Gasol and Artest are the better forward duo. While there may only be a few who agree with me on this issue right now, I will bet the numbers will swing more to my side by the time the Lakers three-peat with Gasol and Artest both showing once again their championship mettle while LeBron and Bosh struggle and wonder whether they made the right decision going to Miami together.

While I think that Bosh and Lebron are a better forward tandem than Gasol and Artest, I would not condone such trade, lest we become like them. Pretenders to the throne.

@JAMF - Congrats again. But just to clarify, it is the RCOTD award, not the Friedman award hah. Unfortunately for your case, RCOTD awards don't translate into a ticket to the ASG. Only Laker blog profiles will do
