REPOST
Good morning Blog O Holics,

Decent game last night. One thing I've noticed is that we come out pretty flat in the first quarter. That's something I'd like to see change before pre-season ends. Kobe looks more and more like Kobe every game. Pau will be fine, too.

For me, the two biggest surprises in pre-season are Ron Artest and Ebanks. Ron's svelt trim and improved knowledge of the triangle has shown us that he can contribute in ways we didn't really see last season. He's scoring very effeciently (both in the post and from the perimeter) and he's crashing the boards well, too. Add his excellent D to the mix and we could see an even more effective Ron Artest this season. Awesome.

Ebanks (And Caracter when he's gotten minutes) has really impressed me with his hustle. He's made some very rookie mistakes, taken some questionable shots, but his hustle and tenacity around the rim have been very nice to see. Another stellar late draft pick by one Mitch Kupchak.

The addition of Ebanks and Ron's continued development in the system (combined with the fact that he was instrumental in bringing the title back to LA last season) should finally put to rest any notion that we lost out on not signing Trevor Ariza. Ebanks not only looks kinda like Trevor, but has the same lanky quickness we all came to appreciate. A few years seasoning, some vet tutelage from Kobe, Barnes and Artest and we'll see some pretty positive development come from the young man.

Overall, preseason has shaped up exactly as it should. Some minutes for our vets and lots of floor time for guys who most likely won't crack the 20mpg mark. Can't wait for the regular season to start in 8 days.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

I thought Shannon was married and had a kid...

And her childhood sweetheart committed suicide in front of her?

WTH?

Now THIS is why players come to L.A. to play (other then all those championships, of course). Does anyone really think Sasha or Shannon would be gettin' any of this if they were in Minnesota? Oh yeah, Farmar's gettin' his Jersey Shore skank on, while Shannon's gettin' some Monica lovin'.

Gob Lakers!

MM - you are cranking...in midseason form already.

Enjoyed the ESPN crew debating the possibility of a Laker 3peat...

Jalen - "If Bynum's healthy...yes (there you go LakerTom).
Jon Barry - "Yes, treat Pau like the superstar he is and give him the ball more. (uh JB...Pau has to demand the ball and go to work when he gets it and quit passing it back out so much).
Doris Burke & Broussard - NO!

WOTS is Monica sung this and that sealed the deal...girl can saaang! Congrats Shannon.

Somehow it looks and sounds legit for me to start back posting (in full season shape) under a thread that mentions engagement (I feel belonging more.... lol).

Actually I would have loved to post under Kobe's thread or Pau's, but after having obviously obliged and honoring the fellow profiled bloggers that I missed while I was world-spinning, it's logic to post the last message for today under the last thread (I'm sure as I will press "send", lovely MM will post another thread... look and see ;)).

I CAN'T wait for next week to come, I can't wait to face the Rockets and leave behind all the stuff about pre-season.

It has been a logically rusted one, we still in need of so much in terms of reliability, quickness, strength and chemistry but the things I have caught from tv so far all look actually very promising to me.

We are starting to look as a team with a BENCH finally.

Not a bench of egomaniacs, but a bench of testable folks who can provide DIFFERENT skills in different phases of the games.

Sure not everybody looks not even a tenth of what he should.

New kids really are clearly intimidated by the Bible Of Triangle and some old kid still not completely there anyway (Ron & Shannon) but it's all gonna gather for the best when it mostly counts.

And it's not now.

It's not even in three months.

All fruits will be ready to be taken in around 5 months, not before.

(Oh... I will still call Ron Ron "Ron Ron"... sorry man, but that's the way I love to call you the most because you remind me of a kitty purring when I do and I believe you're actually as tender and fluffy hearted as a lil kitty out of the field. I like the contrast with your fiercely battling player persona. Ron Ron you are and forever will be to me ;)...)

I am really glad Heat fans are there with their "Beat LA chants".
Ehi... at the end of the season, when they won't even get into their own Final Conference first seat, they will be confident they did practice well for some American Idol or X Factor singing contest, right?

Second chances are important, after all.

And second chances and second places it's all they're gonna obtain and/or fight for.

I wanna enjoy the usual roller coast Lakers will provide this year too.

Because I am sure it's not gonna be smooth.

But I am as much as sure it's gonna be GREAT once again.

It's a call-out to eternal shine, baby: and we're ready to light it all up.

Purple and Gold.

It's ready to start, so sit comfortably and enjoy this amazing race.

A warm warm warm hug Fam.

See you tomorrow ;)

Z..

63 footer, Ms & Lew,

Wow...you guys covered a lot. Ms...I think you beat 63 footer by 4 minutes on Big Mama...but great minds think alike. Let's see we hit Ike Turner, Big Mama, Elvis, Chuck, The Beatles, Howling Wolf, Les & Mary, Elmo, Jerry Lee and LittleRichard...here's a couple more early ones.

this has been redone by just about everyone...I love Elvis & The Beatles interpretations...but this is still my favorite you should recognize the piano player on this one.

63 footer this might be the Heinsohn of early R&R...lol

I guess he would be the Big O

Justa,

Loved the Fugees...you're torturing me. I miss the old Lauryn...

Here's some early raggae for ya...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyeG5Vp5j00

And what I believe was the first Raggae song to chart in the US in 68. Bob, Bunny and Peter did a good job of teaching him the raggae vibe...

LAKERS ASSESMENT:

The Lakers wing players is now a tower of strength. Hard to imagine when it was their main weakness a few years back.

From Radmanovic, Walton, Sasha, Kobe

to...

Artest, Barnes, Ebanks, Brown, Kobe

That's a whole lot of defense from no defense at all in 2008. I am so glad we have a tagged team of defensive stoppers and agitators to counter the superduo of Lebron and Wade.

The best added asset this season.

A better Ron Artest from last year.
A Ron Artests back up in Matt Barnes
A rookie back up for Matt Barnes in Devin Ebanks.
A Ratliff, a veteran shot blocker.
A Blake, a vetran solid back up at PG.

When Bynum comes back with Ratliff, Caracter, Odom and Gasol, it may not be the deepest frontline (Celtics), but it sure is the best. How many can you play at a time in this position? 2 and the Lakers has five.

Point Guard. Fish n Blake. Not flashy, not young, not athletic, not top young point guards. But, solid, veteran savy and leadership, clutch, stays within the system. Just the way Phil Jackson wants it.

Lakers Champion 2011!!

LTLL - You're right about that rook Hayward. He's got game. He seems to be a good guy too, so I hope he does well...just not against US!

Justa - I'm with you 100% on Raja. I'm so glad he's not a Laker.

LRob - Fats had such a distinctive style. I didn't mention him earlier just... well, he may not have been as pivotal as some of the others. But still love all his stuff. A mammoth talent.

How could I forget Carl! I almost put Link Wray in, but Carl! Man, I'm slippin'.

I coulda put more Buddy in. I love me some Buddy Holly.

LRob - I just remember "The Harder They Come" changing my musical life (like many others).

Raja's got his money, and I don't blame him, but Barnes is gonna have more fun.

I thought Shannon was married and had a kid...
And her childhood sweetheart committed suicide in front of her?

Phil,
I pretty sure Shannon not married...or at least I hope he isn't...lol. Yep, Monica's had somewhat of a rough go early on with the suicide you mentioned and another ex-fiance serving a life sentence. But she seems to have really turned her life around recently.

Just a thought....Who could be the hottest current Mrs. or soon-to-be Mrs. Lakers (Buss family excluded..well has anyone in Buss family got married)???

The Meat were chanting "Beat L.A." during a scrimmage?
-
Ohh... HELL NO!
-
The ONLY team that has earned the right to that chant is the Septics.
-
Miami isn't even a fricken basketball town. What a joke. Who the hell do they think they are?
-
I can't wait to beat them and watch The True Warrior make the Princess cry.
-
Jerks.
-
What do we play for? RINGS!!!
-
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
-
GO LAKERS!!!

How could I forget Carl! I almost put Link Wray in, but Carl! Man, I'm slippin'.

Louis Jordan, Haley, Muddy, Fred Maddox...it's soooo many we can't list them all. I'm with you 100% on Buddy. Big influence on Dylan...Sam big influence on Rod Stewart...and on and on.

After game 7 against Boston, Michael Jordan's son tweeted that Kobe is no match for his dad, and now Jordan places Kobe in the top 10 guards of all time. What a joke! This means only one thing - Kobe is getting close, and all the MJ loyalists are scared ****less. MJ and his loyalists (which includes Barkley) will continue to root against Kobe with all their might this season. As Kobe gets closer to Jordan's legacy, MJ and his loyalists will come out stronger than ever to diss Kobe's game. If Kobe equals Jordan's 6 rings, I expect Jordan to change Kobe's status from a top 10 guard to a top 25 guard. If Kobe can get 7 rings, than Jordan should be gracious enough to place Kobe in the top 50 guards of all time.

Heat fans?? Chanting "Beat LA"??? Heat fans??

HAHAHAHHAHAAA!!!

*gasp*

*tears streaming down my face*

I can't wait for the Heat fans to do the other "cliche" thing and start chanting "MVP! MVP! MVP!" when Kobe goes to the line. That will be GREAT!

Lamar and Artest are looking like all-stars this pre season. Everyone talks about Bynum making his first all-star team, but could this be the year that Lamar finally makes it?

Blake Griffin, Gordon Hayward and John Wall has all been very impressive rookies this preseason.

Hayward is the most impressive because of the surprise.

Especially last night, he scored 26 points all over the floor inside, outside and he did it against Barnes, Ebanks, Kobe, Ratliff, Gasol, Odom.

The addition of Jefferson, Bell and Hayward has made the Jazz a very good team again. With Okur, Millsap, Kirilenko, Miles and Deron Williams.

Staples 24 - Hayward looks like a smart kid, too - he'll probably pick up a nice defensive presence over a few years because of listening and playing hard. Good deal for the Jazz.

Guys, It looks lime Magic has sold his share in the Lakers. i can't get the link as I'm on my iPhone but apparently, he sold his share to Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a 25 year season ticket holder. MM, can you verify this for us?

Huh... wonder if Magic's going to "buy" another team like he's been threatening.

I agree with you, Staples 24. This Utah team had a good off-season. I like Jefferson a lot more than Boozer, and I think he'll fit into their system nicely. Lucky for us, the Lakers completely own the Jazz mentally -- we've crushed their hopes and dreams three seasons in a row now, and we've done it handily.

Artest is continuing to play out of his mind. And I mean that literally. He's not "thinking" as much as he was last season; it really looks like he's just reacting, which is where Artest really shines. Last season the weight of the Lakers world was on his shoulders. This season, he's going to earn his DPOY award and fit into the offensive scheme much more fluidly.

Baby Outlaw update: The little guy is quickly grasping his father's obsession with basketball. When I say "basketball," he says, "Bounce, bounce. BOOM!" Good boy.

Go Lake Show!

Does anyone have any news on Matt Barnes' court hearing today?

Way to go, outlaw! Gotta train 'em young and they won't disappoint LOL!

If this story is true about Shannon, now we know the real reason he wanted to stay a Laker..Somewhere down the line, it's always for a woman. :)

Barnes hearing continued to Oct. 25 to give the DA another week to decide whether or not to file charges. Here's Kevin Ding's link:

http://lakers.ocregister.com/2010/10/18/matt-barnes-court-date-delayed-till-next-week/42322/

Wow...thanks for heads up Cap's Goggles & the link 63 footer,

"This was a bittersweet business decision made on behalf of my family and myself, and I want to assure all the wonderful and loyal Lakers fans that my decision will in no way affect my dedication and support for the Los Angeles Lakers. I am and will always be a Laker for life.”
------------------------

All the best to you Magic!

The Outlaw - remember: teach Baby Outlaw a real jump shot. Don't let him end up like Luke.

The song that is making me happy today…

Re Gasol- I think that Gasol made the right choice in resting and decompressing this summer, and when you put your body in rest mode you have to expect it to take some time to get back to game mode. The variation is in Lamar, who stayed in game mode all summer and I expect to have some fatigue issues in a month or so, even though he will probably rebound ok if he doesn’t get hurt.

YAY! Zaira is back!

“(Oh... I will still call Ron Ron "Ron Ron"... sorry man, but that's the way I love to call you the most because you remind me of a kitty purring when I do and I believe you're actually as tender and fluffy hearted as a lil kitty out of the field. A kitty purring? Tru Warrior it is then.

I still like ‘Queensbridge!’ Sorta like Lamar is “Saturn!” and Andrew Bynum is ‘ah, crap, not again.’

phred - can never go wrong with Van the Man.

Just spotted this on Facebook:

LA Lakers Los Angeles Lakers legend and part-owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson has sold his share of the team to Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a Lakers season seat holder for more than 25 years and Chairman of the Chan Soon-Shiong Family Foundation, Chairman and CEO of All About Advanced Health and founder of the National Coalition for Health Integration.

I guess Magic is now free to trash the Lakers on ABC/ESPN guilt-free. I don't know how Dr. Buss feels, considering how Magic came to get his shares, but if I were he, I would consider this a slap in the face. As a fan, I also find it to be an insult. As a fan, owning just one single share of the Lakers would be a thrill I would never let go for anything.

Apparently Magic is in negotiations to own another team (I believe it's the Pistons). I'm fine with this just like I could care less what he said on national television in his neutral role as a broadcaster. Jerry West went to the Grizzlies to be their GM in direct competition with the Lakers and I don't recall a whole lot of animosity directed at him. Magic has been a successful businessman and now he would like to have control of a franchise. He can't have that with the Lakers, so he moved on. This is not an insult or a slap in the face to the Lakers franchise or its fan base. I wish him the best of luck, except when his team plays the Lakers! Oh, and don't be surprised if he fails much like he did as a head coach and a late night TV host.

Any openings?

Heat fans. They're still waiting for the players to kick the ball.

LOL @ the meat bandwagon.

Lakertruth,

"Lamar and Artest are looking like all-stars this pre season. Everyone talks about Bynum making his first all-star team, but could this be the year that Lamar finally makes it?"

Exactly, Artest and Odom are clicking right now, Odom is crazy like TEAM USA/COACH K took away the KRYPTONITE away from him that made him weak all these years.

But ALL_STAR forward is pretty much locked up even with the departure of Amare and Boozer.

Durant, Gasol, Dirk, Duncan, Melo are always a shoe in.

So it would be Artest, Odom, Lamarcus Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Al Jefferson, Scola, David Lee and maybe Blake Griffin or Michael Beasely breaking out this season will be competeing all for 1 spot or none (if it goes to a guard position).

The Center is lock for Yao Ming. Kaman, Chandler, Bynum will have very little competetion for the back up C.

1 Yao Ming
2 Bynum
3 Dirk
4 Gasol
5 Duncan
6 Durant
7 Melo
8 Gay (F) 0r Tyreke Evans (G)
9 Kobe
10 Roy
11 Williams
12 Paul

The 8th spot, will go to a player who is the number 1 option in their team who fills up the STATS like Gay in Memphis, Tyreke in Sacramento or Beasely in Minnesota.

Yao/Bynum
Dirk/Gasol/Duncan
Durant/Melo/Gay
Kobe/Roy
Williams/Paul

So it is unlikely Odom makes it, Bynum is easier because of there are no real good Centers in the West.

Rick,

Magic wants to be a majority owner of a team and can't while he ownes Lakers stock. This is probably hard enough on Magic as it is, whithout fans turnig on him. This was a long time coming.

And I'm sure Magic cleared it with Buss before making the sell.

Painfully late, but so keen at tributing the GREATEST of honors to the glittering, shining torch that makes this Blog so awesome, with his passion, compassion, flair and outstretched kindness. Dear Larry, it's really impossible for me to put in words the beauty that you pour over this bunch of Lakerholics and believe I couldn't really attempt at that not even in my mother tongue. Your family is as beautiful at you. MM posted your blog profile while I was flying over San Francisco and trust me I thought about breaking my word and actually step in the blog for writing before I were coming back to Italy. But my now fiancée said this to me: "Larry deserve you to ponder over what you're gonna write for him". I tried and tried and tried while reading your profile (I did 5 times) to find teh words that could honor you the best, but I failed. The only thing that kept coming to my mind was this: "I hope he stays in the blog forever". I just smile when you post. You pump me up not only as a Lakers fan, but as a human being. It's the crystal clear truth. Please, just stick around. You make this place so much a better place than it'd be without you. Much Love, Z. Posted by: ZairaAmaterasu | October 18, 2010 at 06:37 AM

Zaira, A Goddess can never be late. All time is determined by The Goddess. Lol! Thank you so much for these wonderful sentiments about my Profile and me and my family. It is Lakerholics like you that help me do whatever little bit I can in contributing to Lakers Nation. I guess we have a mutual admiration society. From the moment you burst on the Blog like a Supernova and literally and I mean literally took the Blogs breath away with your prose and passion and analysis, I have been one of your most ardent fans. Your contributions to the Blog are legendary and when you are away for any amount of time it is like a part of the Blog is numb. Thank you for all your contributions to Lakers Blog and Lakers Nation. Once again thank you for the wonderful compliments. I will make a bargain with you. As long as you stay as our Goddess, I will stay here as one of your devotee’s. Lol! Thanks ZairaAmaterasu and take care Miss Z!
