Miami Heat shouldn't count their titles before winning a game

Heat1_600

There's no doubt that the Miami Heat should be a formidable foe this season. But like most of you, I was a little taken aback when Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh had their introductory love-fest and started using two hands to count the number of NBA championships they'd bring to Florida.

We all know how difficult it is to win one title, let alone several in a row. The fact that the Lakers are seeking a three-peat for the second time in less than 10 years is remarkable, as in only Michael Jordan and the Bulls have accomplished that feat since the Bill Russell-led Celtics dominated the 1960s.

There have been great trios in the past that couldn't get it done: the Elgin Baylor-Jerry West-Wilt Chamberlain Lakers, the Julius Erving-Charles Barkley-Moses Malone 76ers, the Hakeen Olajuwon-Clyde Drexler-Charles Barkley Rockets come to mind. I'm sure you might be able to think of others.

While Wade, James and Bosh have familiarity with one another from their days on the national team when they won the 2008 Beijing Olympics (with Kobe Bryant, of course), they will be playing alongside each other with an entirely new cast of supporting characters. And therein lies the biggest hurdle they will have to clear.

While the Heat have some nice pieces to put around them -- retaining power forward Udonis Haslem, who does all the dirty work, signing a sharp-shooter in guard-forward Mike Miller and bringing in serviceable if not spectacular 7-3 center Zydrunas Ilgauskas -- the team's depth and cohesiveness will be their Achilles' heel. While pint-sized Eddie House has a title under his belt with the Celtics from 2008 and he can light it up from time to time, does anyone really think he's going to be a vital role player? And reserve point guard Carlos Arroyo? Not a difference-maker. They do have quite a collection of aging big men: IIgauskas, Juwan Howard and Jamaal Magliore. Combined age? About 100. Not good.

Miami does have rookie DaSean Butler, a silky smooth swingman from West Virginia who should have a very good NBA career, starting in about three to four years. And there's third-year guard Mario Chalmers , a solid reserve, but skinny shooting forward James Jones is a liability anywhere but the three-point line. The rest of the roster? Forgettable.

Now, the triumverate of Wade, Bosh and James should be good for 50 wins on their own. They are that talented, although there is only one ball and I'm not the only one that sees that as a problem. In fact, there's plenty of reasons floating around on the Web as to why the Heat will fall short.

Which brings us to this conclusion. The Lakers are two-time defending NBA champions that have actually improved their roster and all challengers should fight their way to the top of the standings and into their respective conference finals before talking about multiple championships. Wait, maybe they should win one before talking about it.

Dan,

May I suggest looking at the glass as half full?

Kobe's knee rehab seems to have gone well.

He has done for the finger, whatever can be done.

He will certainly be "motivated" for this coming season.

The Lakers have been given more bulletin board fodder
than any Defending Champion should receive.

I say: Let them keep talking. It will make their falling-short
so much more sweet.

Nice Dan my man, now this is a topic with some meat. Yes I'm a die hearted Heats fan , commenting on a Lakers blog and is there a PROBLEM. I also must admit I like the Lakers as my next team because of Kobe. But I feel the Heats will take down the Lake Show this year with all the new acquistion, their just that determine. This Lakers team will make the finals and come up a like short, because the new big 3 won't have it no other way. And for some reason they don't make it , my support is with Jellybeans son. Miami Heats 2010-11 NBA Champions

BACK FROM MY "BREAK" . . .

Hello, my dear Laker Blog Family. Taking a month (give or take) off has been cleansing to my mind and renewing to my spirit. Enjoyed the "renegade chat" (Thanks MagicPhil!) and passive reads of this blog (at least most of them!) throughout August.

With MM's return so close and Dan's work so respectable, it just felt like the right time to get back in the saddle. Sooo,,,

MAMBA ~ Please remove my name from the "Please Come Back" bandwagon rollcall . . . I'm back.

JUSTA ~ Thanks for the encouragement. Both me and wifey appreciate it!

VALLEY ~ You know who you are and thanks.

By they way, DAN, we really appreciate your work in MM's abasence. You seemed to have righted much of what was wrong. Good job! Although your list of "three stars" who failed to put together Threepeats has a glaring hole in it without any mention of the MAGIC/KAREEM/WORTHY and BIRD/MCHALE/PARISH combos. BUT, your point is an excellent one!

Mike

Good Morning Hobbitmage and MAMBA24!

Heading off to the commute for work, but just wanted to drop a line to say hello. I hope you both are having a good weekend.

And not to forget, Good Morning Mr. Loumena! I hope you are having a good Labor Day as well.

:-)

Boston may knock them off first.

formidable trio.......

Good morning Lakerholics,

Put me on any DAN THE MAN bandwagon, this guys did great! Thanks Dan.

Hey Cali! Say it aint so! Work today? Aw naw! Well bro yo go out and make it the best day it can be be cause you are a fanof the best Team & Nation there is Laker Nation! Take care my brother and Happy Holidays to you and your Family!

Great post Dan, great Labor Day fodder! I really hope you are planning on sticking around this coming season. This Franken-Heat team still has a lot to work out before being considered anything near championship worthy, especially given that they have 18 players currently signed to their roster.

best lakers centers ever

1.- Pau
2.- Gasol
3.- Kareem (only 1 weapon)
4.- Wilt (a losser vs. Bill)
5.- Shaq (pathetic player, he cant make a simple free throw) Pure garbage for me.

Best Lakers players all time:

1.- Magic
2.- Pau
3.- Gasol
4.- Kobe
5.- Kareem

Best center ever: Pau

Best Power Forward ever:Gasol

Best Point center ever: Pau Gasol

Best Lakers sidekicks all time:
1.- Kareem
2.- Kobe

Y punnntoooo.

Mamba24, I like to know if a troll can be part of the Dan the Man bandwagon? maybe a one day exemption, I know I said the roll call is WEAK ...but I was just haten. I understand if you say HELL NO. "CAN A TROLL GETS SOME MERCY".

Kobe's knee rehab seems to have gone well. buttttttttttttttttttt

yeah, sun it about to set on Kobe

Now that's the way to talk about Miami! Good article Dan.
Something else that everyone overlooks is the fact that when it comes down to crunch-time in the playoffs, Miami will be down to Wade and Bosh. LeChoke will end up disappearing and running off the floor when the pressure is on like he has the last two years.

JR

As far as the Lakers go, the Heat have to go out and win games, not just on paper and betting sites. They have 2 stars and a good player, however the games will still be played with ONE basketball, there lies a problem whether the Heat is going to be able to share the ball efficiently. Secondly, while LBJ is a great player mostly in regular season, so far he has proven he is not that formidable in the playoffs, disappearing in big games. Thirdly, his support cast was good enough for the Cavs to have won last season best record, therefore the argument he had a bad team was not found valid. Last but not least, LBJ mentality has been all about fun, posing for imaginary pictures, batting baseball before games as if they had won championships before, also evidenced by that introductory ceremony they had in Miami, one would have thought they had just won a ring, alas the ring is also imaginary. My take is LBJ does not have the tough mentality to perform in the playoffs therefore he folded under pressure, not rising to the occasion as expected of him, which explained why he decided to take his talents (along with his weak mentality) to be the second banana in Miami. Until the Heat is proven, they can have all the imaginary rings they want, thank you very much while the Lakers enjoy real jewelry.

It seems the Lakers would have the advantage over the heat if we have a healthy and robust Bynum dominating the paint - especially on the defensive end. Bynum seemed to grow a lot of heart last season, so the "character issue" has been resolved in my mind. The heat weakness seems to be on the inside - so in a seven game series - isn't it advantage Lakers?

doug

Good day Lakers Fam!

So much going on, I need a moment to put stuff in line...

My two weekend days out of here as writers did not mean I did miss to read any of your post, and it obvious that the event that caught more my eyes is the return of the one Laker Tom!!!

Welcome back... you deserve this > http://twitpic.com/2lv42w and I give you like it's a smile directly from my face (my name after all means "rose", so...).

I see that the family is building it back all together, as LakerMike is back too and all the usual are starting to get back home.

Mean that the season approaches to starting again... and we all feel the thrill, like a tickling inside our chest (it's our trained heart that prepares for the usual "jokes" our guys will provide to make the adversaries think that they might have a chance. Hint: NOPE.)

I wanna really really thank Dan L. for the awesome job he has provided to feed us all. Even when I was just lurking, I was enjoyin the way he kept everyone in check and interested.
I also love your humor, Dan: you'd be an excellent part of this blog... and I actually wish you will write along us a bit whenever you could feel like to.

I know I'd love it for sure.

Before coming on the matter of this specific thread (oh... the hilarious hype that is not so gently shuffling in Florida nowadays... I can't wait to pull on a sardonic smile about this all... ah-ah-ahah.), I have to compliment LEWSTERS for the more than shared idea that BOTH Kobe's jerseys have to be retired.
Absolutely.
He has won 3 rings with one number and he will win 4 at least with another. SURE the gotta be both retired (yes, here it's speaking the Kobe fanatic BUT I think for real Lakers owe Kobe this anyway and already... everyone else's doubts about it will be erased when those at least 2 more rings come in his and our hands).

I will be kind and considering his part as one of the greatest Lakers in a specific role for a limited time of provided effort and I won't call Fat Shaq like I'd love to after he declared the things he did about Cavemen now that he's a Green Enemy.
I'll be kind.
I'll be more intelligent that once more he has demonstrated capable of being.
Because really... there is all a matter of intelligence.
Style in any field is first and foremost a matter of intelligence.
And you can't pull off blood from a stone.
Never.

So, on the matter of the Miami Meat (our favourite hamburger for the year 2010-2011) let's just say, like many have said, that they can keep on... better, the really MUST keep on blabbing around.

Go on.
See where hype brought CRabs?
Exactly.
Which factor was in common then?
*Exactly*.

I have no real trouble.
To be honest I keep not seeing them coming even out of the East, so let's go on and keep inflate, inflate... inflate and let them fly so really high.
To win, you need exactly the opposite: you need to be grounded, my friend.
Grounded and smalling the cobblestone where your sweat gets vaporized after hours of training, hours of building up chemistry routines...

Dear Miami Meat and all those who think to build a great sprt team is like putting the players in a fanta basketball team: wake up.
I say this for your own benefit.

Real sport is not a videogame.
It's a continue journey of effort and blood and pain.

What comforts me?
Well, experience, baby.
This team this year is better than the team of last year which was better of the team of the previous year.

And look: this means still we're the best team.

HANDS DOWN.

Last year, yooow-hu? We managed to win with an INJURIED Kobe.
We managed to win with a dried up and often injuried Pau.
We managed to win having to put in our clocking timed triangle... well... Ron Artest, the less-fit-to-triangle great player EVER (probably).

I see all those factors easily eased up?
I see a bench infinitely more reliable?
I see the hunger still there, and the will to send PJ to retirement as the greatest of the greatest in the greatest?

Right.

Miami Meat can collect their peanas now that it means an absolute ZERO.
They will certainly have a good regular season probably (not sure, they could though) and even if it would be CRabs-like magnified IT WOULD STILL MATTER ZERO.

In playoff times, the only one who knows what to do is Wade.
And Kobe can eat him still.

No trouble.

It's gonna be a wonderful trip once again, Laker Nation.

And I have no doubts that in June my team will prepare for me my best marriage gift.

The joy for the threepeat will make that spacial day in August 2011 even more sparkling.

And I know Sky wants that for them, for you and for me: THREEPEAT.

Let Miami Meat and everyone else dream now: it's all that they can do and will afford to obtain.

;)

Good day everybody, and LLL (Lotta Laker Love). ;)

Z.

Larry,

Since you liked that one-on -0 fight scene in "Ip Man" check out this, the final fight of the film.

Let me set the scene for you. The evil Japanese general has captured Ip and told him he has to either teach the Japanese his Wing Chun secrets or he'll die. Ip has secretly asked his best friend to sneak his wife and child out of the town because Ip has no intention of teachinig the occupiers the kung fu secrets he has.

So, ip tells his interpreter that he will never give any of his secrets so he may as well kill him there. The interpreter lies and says that Ip will tell him the secrets, but only after the general and Ip have a hand to hand death duel.

So here we have the duel between the top Japanese Judo master/general and Ip. We also see that Ips wife has convinced his buddy to bring her to watch the duel, thus her presence there. Here is the epic batle.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The general's assistant has told Ip that if he wins he'll be shot dead on the spot.

Enjoy the final fight form "Ip Man":

I've been an editor at the L.A. Times for nearly 14 years, working everything from page design and copy editing to assignment editing for our high school desk. If you've seen my byline, it's probably on the Fabulous Forum blog, to which I contribute each week. I broke into the business back in 1981 as a cub reporter in Oregon, but about 10 years into my career I was asked to move into editing roles at various newspapers in NorCal and SoCal, and as a young father the hours were a lot more conducive to raising a family than when I was a sports writer. I worked about nine years in Santa Clarita, Hayward, Oakland and Stockton in main news, primarily as a news editor and also as a Page 1 designer. When I was helping run the prep desk here at The Times, former Sports Editor Bill Dwyre asked me to get involved with the dot-com operation. Now I work primarily as a web editor, doing everything from helping with the blogs to posting stories with photos and video, etc. It's been a great ride here, although we've seen our staffing level cut in half the last 6 or 7 years. It's tough to see colleagues lose their jobs, as many of you have probably experienced. Thanks for the kudos. I've got to be really honest, I'm not filling in for Mark Medina. I'm just kind of flying past every so often between my other duties to see how you're doing with what little we're offering you. Mark does a heckuva job. Unfortunately, August is the slowest month in our office, so every staff member, and I mean every one of us, takes some vacation time. So we're really short-handed

(08) JON K - Dan, I know this may be a bit of a baptism by fire for you, considering that we're not an even-keeled bunch, but this is a big part of the job. Managing the chaos produced by trolls and charlatans. You're getting it, Dan. You're really getting it.
(09) LAKERLASS - Thanks to Dan Loumena for caring about us. Dan, I think you're starting to have fun here. C'mon, you can admit it.
(10) EDWIN GUECO - Mr. Dan Loumena, thanks for rescuing your blog, if LAT editorial staff don't do something about it, this could be the beginning of the end. Please consult your legal luminaries and I would like to reiterate our "rights" as bloggers we are not public figures. We are not Luke, Mitch or Jerry Buss. Not one of us here except for Roland Lazenby are public figures therefore we don't deserve insults, prejudice and innuendos of this blog. It is the responsibility of LA Times to ensure free speech that is civil, free from hatred (federal statutes) and further defamation of character by people abusing your system of instant posting and lax enforcement in tracing the source of multiple handles.
(11) MAGIC PHIL - put mein the Dan bandwagon, the guy did a great job! Dan for president!!
(12) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - Awesome history post Dan - love it. I think Dan has had his - "you like me, you really like me" moment. Way to go! PLG
(13) CALIPHILOSOPHER - Please put me on the bandwagon supporting Dan "The Man" Loumena
(14) utzworld THE BANNER HOLDER - I think Dan & MM should share Lakers Blog moderation duties this season. Let MM do the game recaps & let Dan cover the intangibles.
(15) CYBERCOSMIX - Dan, MM does a good job and it's hard to replace a 'legend' (hehe...) but it was good to read your bio and get a chance to know you a bit. For the record and what it's worth, I feel each of your blog entries have gotten progressively better and better. At this rate, by the time MM returns we'll have a solid replacement. In Laker terminology, it's Nick Van Exel getting injured, and D-Fish coming in and doing a nice job filling in. Anyone have a better Laker analogy??? Great job on a blog entry that is interesting to all basketball fans, LRob and Dan
(16) iheartkb24 - Dan - good job filling in for MM and thanks for cleaning the blog...
(17) HALOSANT - Dan L. - I think that we can all agree that when MM returns you still need to drop in and even become a a regular here. (Even though you are a Blazers Fan, if we put up with certain Chowd Fans we can put up with you too.)
(18) ART-FL LAKERS FAN – Dan I like how you turn a phrase. And there is now no doubt Dan has figured out this blog thing, he even reposts his comments from the previous thread. Way to go Dan!
(19) NOAH - Dan Loumena You've made some friends. Adding my thanks for making an effort.
(20) LROB – put me on that thank you Dan bandwagon. Any man that post at 3am is alright with me. Plus he actually has dialogue with posters. Dan gets it!
(21) NEWMEXICOLAKERLIFER - Dan.... You're doing a great job of holding down the fort till MM comes back.
(22) LAKERMIKE & MRS. LAKERMIKE - Add me to the Bandwagon in favor of Dan. Although we are counting the days to MM's return, it is nice to have a Sub who seems to get it.
(23) DON’T BLAME DEL HARRIS – DAN Well done, sir. You have impressed the natives with your efforts. If MM is our blog's flux capacitor, then surely you were the plutonium ibn his absence. Dan = Lakers Blog Sixth Man. YUP
(24) THE SNAKE – DAN I was on a project in Willamette Valley 5 years ago. Excllent vineyards; IMHO, some of the best Pinot Noir's outside of Napa.
(25) D(EREK) J(ETER) - Please add me to the Dan-Band and the Mamba24 Bus! Gotta get back to BP, my AVE is slipping some! Still winning though, just like my Lakers, ha, ha.
(26) JOHNNY P -And DAN, if you have any connections with THEO RATLIFF recommend he add some DIT TA JOW to his MINERAL regiment. THEO WILL BE HIGH ON THE FACT OF FINALLY GETTING THE TITLE !! HE WILL SOAR !!!!
(27) JEFE101 - Great post Dan, great Labor Day fodder! I really hope you are planning on sticking around this coming season. This Franken-Heat team still has a lot to work out before being considered anything near championship worthy, especially given that they have 18 players currently signed to their roster.
(28) JOLLY RANCHER - Now that's the way to talk about Miami! Good article Dan
(29) HOBBITMAGE - Dan, May I suggest looking at the glass as half full
(30) LAKER-J - Dan, nice, nice job.
(31) JUSTAHATER -Nice Dan my man, now this is a topic with some meat. And for some reason they don't make it , my support is with Jellybeans son.Dan the man your doing a outstanding job, we've love to have you in Miani

Dan - thanks for an excellent, really excellent job here. Spot on with the articles, the moderation, the stemming of the troll tide at important moments (rather like Phil's occasional time-outs, taken when most needed, but mostly let the players play) and the enthusiasm for the task. And whether you're a Laker fan or not, you come off as a professional who understands that the bloggers here are and write accordingly.

Good day everybody, and LLL (Lotta Laker Love). ;) Z. Posted by: ZairaAmaterasu | September 06, 2010 at 09:35 AM

ZAIRA, our Goddess only one thing to say to all of that...OUT FREAKIN STANDING MAM!!!!!!

OOOH, touchy touchy. Sounds like someone’s been on your case about spending too much time on the blog. I’m quite familiar with time zones, Arthur, but I just assumed that ‘FL’ stood for Flaker. Fair enough? Did someone say something about lightening up?

Not trying to instigate, inflame, or insinuate anything. And I owe a lot to this board. It allows me to do my work, and take a mental break anytime I need or want to. It’s like the perfect mental storm.

And much of what you said is probably true FL, but I can’t be responsible for fans who won’t acknowledge the truth, much less feel any shame. So, in the interest of finding some common ground here; appeasement of sorts (so that the fans of about 22 or so other teams can share in the agreement), please indulge me for a moment while I merely rephrase, ever so slightly, some of your very words:

(Here it comes! This can be a happy moment for a multitude of thin-skinned Laker blog nannys)

‘You didn’t state anything new, just the same worn out accusations that the Lakers don’t get favorable treatment, that they aren’t able to acquire good players through some type of nefarious means or collusion, and as you said, the list goes on’.

Yes it does, doesn’t it?

Good job FL Laker Fan!

Oh, by the way. You’re pretty close to the action down there. It’s obvious that the Miami Heat are the team to beat, but I agree that they shouldn’t be counting titles before winning a single game. I’m still waiting to read about the three of em’ involved in some type of sting operation...maybe a sexual assault scenario...wait...nope...the NBA’s been there, done that...it’ll have to be something else.

Go Kings!
Go Niners!
Go Team USA!
Go SF Giants!

Larry, my brother in kung fu,

Here's two more really cool clips form Ip man.

It's difficult to tell what parts of Ip's story are real and which are mythologies, but we do know that Ip's reputation was born when he fought a Northern master who had defeated all the other kung fu masters in his town. Here's the 1st clip of the Northern master fighting his way thru the local kung fu schools.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6RACcAQVxs&p=FC95797774B6B6D5&playnext=1&index=3

The 2nd clip has the northern master finally reaching Ip's house and insulting his wife, thus starting the epic battle that starts the "Ip Man" legend:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt34aHAFkV8&p=FC95797774B6B6D5&playnext=1&index=1

Wes

Let them keep on dreaming ...

They can count their championships in their dream all they want to ...

When they wake up next June and their Heat were knocked off from the playoff in the second round by the Celts, they will surely cry their heart out ...

And for the rest of the summer, the Lakers Championship parade will be their nightmares ...

Go Lakers

Yep,

Dan has won the hearts of Laker bloggers. Not an easy thing to do, either, because you can't get there just by writing a pretty sentence. You have to have a way with the pen and and you have that pen aimed in the right direction.

Wes

They do have quite a collection of aging big men: IIgauskas, Juwan Howard and Jamaal Magliore. Combined age? About 100. Not good.
---------------

You're right Dan. At some point either against the Celtics, Magic or Lakers...their interior defense will be overpowered.

Here's the 1st clip of the Northern master fighting his way thru the local kung fu schools. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6RACcAQVxs&p=FC95797774B6B6D5&playnext=1&index=3

ABSOLUTELY!!! Welcome to LakersNation & Blog sir!

Good morning Mamba24 & the fabulous Laker morning CRUE!!

Thanks again Dan. Don't be a stranger now that your part-time gig is coming to an end, ok?

LakerMike and MrsLakerMike - welcome back!!!!

Zaira - I didn't know you were engaged. CONGRATS on your impending nuptuals. I'm assuming a lot of guys on here are crying in their morning cup o' joe over this news.

Mamba24 - question for you this morning. Why - for the love of god - put a troll on a bandwagon when his very name suggests he hates ME?? Your best bud?? I have no other words.... (Yeah - I know - nice change).

Dan,

Thanks again for doing a great job in MM's absence.

Your next assignment is to do something about that Blazers broadcast team. Mike Rice, is knowledgeable but his homerism makes it tough to enjoy Blazer games. I miss the days of "Snapper" Jones.

I'm gonna change my name to JustaLover.

Go Kings!
Go Niners!

Good morning all! Just have a quick min but read todays blog entry and all I can say:

Miami, don't count your chickens before they're hatched.

Also, everyone seems to be stepping all over themselves in order to heap praise on the job Pat Riley has done surrounding Miami's 'big-3' with talent. I beg to differ.

Riley offered the largest contract he had after the big-3 on Mike Miller. A great shooter, no doubt, but also a player that always seems to have knick-knack injuries, but mostly because he's a swingman! Where the heck is he going to find time to play with the big-3? Don't tell me they are planning to play him at the point, any team with a speedy PG will be fast-breaking down their throats to tire Princess Jimmy out, who probably would have to cover the position on defense.

Riley should have used the mid-level and gotten a decent center to play alongside Bosh. Big-Z and Juwon Howard are way past their primes, especially Howard. Magloire will add a solid 4-pts, 3 rebounds or so contribution to the team. Haslem will have to put down the blunts and get in the mix.

But Riles spent his biggest spending chip outside the big-3 on Mike Miller? C'mon, that was NOT the smartest move he could have made. Most of the talent came knocking on his door, too.

If I hear another commentator heaping praise on Riley for his 'masterful' job he did assembling this team, I think I might puke...

Don't have time to expand on it further, but wrote a Bleacher Report article discussing Riley's moves a while back:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/421903-rileys-miami-mistake-amare-stoudamire-a-better-fit-than-lebron-james

BTW Any feedback from our knowledgeable Laker Blog crew would be appreciated!

GO LAKERS!!!!! GO TEAM USA!!!!!

ROTFLMAO! Stop it Sonny! Stop it right now!

The difference between Miami winning a championship or not, is that in the West the Lakers will stand in the way. I mean, it won't be the Mavericks or another inexperienced team that doesn't know how to close it out. It will be the LAKERS who understand what it takes to win yet another championship. "Not one, not two, not three...."

The Heat are built to win a lot of games but they are not built to beat the Lakers. To beat the Lakers you need a top point guard and quality size inside. They have neither. I actually was relieved when Lebron didn't go to Chicago because that team had the other pieces to make a real run at us,

MH

Good Morning & Happy Holidays to Gilbert Battung & Fan of The Mamba two of the best and brightest that Laker Nation has produced. Enjoy your Holiday and all the best to you and your Families!!

Lieutenant Dan,

Even I, wouldn't wish the SacBee on you, but it would be nice to see someone of your calibur in Kings country. As the Kings, Giants, Niners, and perhaps even the Warriors begin to surge, you may find God's country to your liking.

In the meantime, good luck at the Times. As the old boys have most assuredly sung their last hurrah for some time, and the injuries start piling high, it could get ugly, and you know the Dodgers ain't going nowhere. Oh dreadful.

You done a fine job here; not an easy task.

Hi Justa sweetie :)

Well, technically I'm not YET engaged cos the formality will be expleted on an incoming San Francisco trip in early October (my future husband's hometown).

But yep.

I act like I'm already so.

It's funny, cos I truly believed the marriage and myself were two really... really... REALLY not compatible realities.

Guess "never say never" has to be a rule in everyone's life...

Hugs babs (and no way... cry over me getting married is like wasting a reason to smile instead... and pity the poor one who will have to handle my impossible carachter a life long lasting time ;)...)

Nice article but the words are spelled complementary and complement. Compliments are nice words about another while complementary can describe a relationship between parties or properties. Spelling is not always my hangup but the words are integral to the content of your article so think of this feedback as a well-intentioned heads-up.

I don't know, Mamba24. I'm thinking you're gonna be in the virtual doghouse a little while longer....

@MAGIC PHIL! Stop it! Stop it right now! LMAO!!!! Happy holiday to you and the Family Magic Phil!

Hello Lakers blog nation,

I figured most of you would like that, and no vitrol from JustaHater, just another proclamation that Miami is the team to beat. I guess Dwyane Wade can talk some smack, you know, he's been there and done that when it comes to a title.

I'll have another post later today. Just got off the phone with Eric Gordon, so I have to get his blog post ready.

Thanks for all the kudos and kind words. It's been a pleasure getting to know you and become a part of your world.

Check you later (actually I poke into the comments frequently just to see if everyone's playing nice, and it looks like lively yet cordial banter is again the norm). Thanks

Hi guys!!

Had almost forgotten the blog, and then came on here... So K bros are gone, now MM is also gone??

so, are we gonna "burn" the "Heat" or should we "freeze" them?? ;-)

No I'm not dissing orlando, I just don't think they have the heart yet. Much like Princess Jimmy! Lol! Check in more often and Happy Holiday to you and your Family!

Dan L great stuff. This blog gets active in historical format and I love relishing in the past glory of the Lakers lore. Mamba24 has already blown enough smoke up your shorts - so a simple thanks for the great job is OK - alright then how 'bout them stinkers?
Zaira that was a classic - hope it rings true for us all in 2011. Hilarious
Sonny - you still haunting us with all that damn Sactown jive...ughhh man I hated 1140 up there with Grant, always great to see you stirring it up! Great to see them Dodgers going down and up North there is Hope in 49er land as well as Raider Nation. Now if the Giants can get a pitching staff to jump back in a time machine -we might even have a great end of the season in baseball!
Wes great clips!
Ricky you are either from Spain or about 20-25 years old -nuff said...no way did you see those guys play.
Did we lose Mike T. and where is Faith this weekend, probably has a life and can live without a dose of the Lakersblog.
Next Season - The improved and well rested Health of Kobe, the love of Klhoe and Lamar (stay away from those shows) a new point guard SBlake who can hit 3's, some more killer instinct from newfound confidence in Ron-Ron, another year for Bynum to start showing more than potential, Pau to just stay healthy and maybe learn some Martial Arts from Kareem- get meaner, and of course some more miraculous D FISH moments. Lakers you all have your work cut out for you with those young leggs in Miami and so much freaking talent in 2 great players. Bosh is simply overrated sorry, not really great to me, I think I would want him on my team but he isn't in Wade and LeBron’s category. Might be interesting but probably a lot uglier finals than all we are hyping it up to be. There is no certainty we will get past those Oklahoma Durants ...The west and east will be interesting to watch this year, that is for sure. Poor Shaq – why Boston, he is just so hard up and – so desperate I guess, for that measley money he could have had such a great Laker farewell tour and been a great fan from the bench along with having to learn to praise the Mamba. I guess he burned too many bridges. Ssshhhhh the Celtics, pathetic.
In any case, Kobe needs to get this one and Phil deserves it in his final year, again. A win is a win though so just win Lakers!

Somehow, someway on a lazy Laborday weekend, I am back posting ...
yes, my name is Pete and I too am a Lakerblogaholic.

(01) ZAIRA AMATERASU – GODDESS - wanna really really thank Dan L. for the awesome job he has provided to feed us all. Even when I was just lurking, I was enjoyin the way he kept everyone in check and interested. I also love your humor, Dan: you'd be an excellent part of this blog... and I actually wish you will write along us a bit whenever you could feel like to. I know I'd love it for sure.
(02) PHRED – OWNER - Dan Loumena, kicking ociation and taking names. Much love, thanks for sticking by us.
(03) WES- DRIVER - Dan, Thanks for writing an article Laker fans might have an interest in. Since Dan is again writing something we Laker fans might find interesting, I thought I'd drop in and give a word of support. Thanks Dan. Great job Dan. Way to keep the troops from killing each other.
(04) PUDDLE – RIDING SHOTGUN - Dan, I'm a little late to the praise bus, but I also wanted to add that I think you've done an admirable job filling in for Mark, whom we've come to fully embrace. We're a tough crowd and you've survived us. Thank you for your efforts

(35) SONNY BELFAST - Lieutenant Dan, Even I, wouldn't wish the SacBee on you, but it would be nice to see someone of your calibur in Kings country.
(36) PETE MAGUIRE - Dan L great stuff. This blog gets active in historical format and I love relishing in the past glory of the Lakers lore. Mamba24 has already blown enough smoke up your shorts - so a simple thanks for the great job is OK - alright then how 'bout them stinkers?

I don't think any true NBA fan thinks the heat are a title threat with this roster - If the Magic can find a taker for Wince Carter's expiring the Heat probably won't even win the southeast...

I can't wait to experience the bandwagon fans dismay when they start the season 1-2!

Sonny,

The way in which you added words to my original statement and then put quotes around it so it appears as if you are just copying something I wrote is pretty deceptive and misleading.

That's really not in the interest of fair play is it?

Hows about just make your own points in your own words instead of trying to resort to some trickery for your own amusement.

To be more clear, if you want to debate or just discuss a topic, then at least use you own words and phraseology instead of using the original writers words in a misconstrued manner.

I ll leave it at that and just repeat what I said to you before:

I know from previous posts of yours you do have the ability to disagree and remain civil.
And sometimes you can even be funny when you aren't trying to make others look bad, or inferior.
Please keep it that way.

Talking about Steve Blake...So here we are, in another attempt to bring a decent 3-point shooter. Before Blake, we had in Sacha all our hopes. He didn't make them, mostly perhaps because he needed more PT, not sure.
-
I just hope Blake can deliver around 40%, that will be awesome. Imagine the nightmare for our oponents, when we spread the court, PLUS Kobe, Pau, etc...

Don't have time to expand on it further, but wrote a Bleacher Report article discussing Riley's moves a while back:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/421903-rileys-miami-mistake-amare-stoudamire-a-better-fit-than-lebron-james

BTW Any feedback from our knowledgeable Laker Blog crew would be appreciated!

-----------

CyberCosmiX - I enjoyed the article. I also would've taken Lebron over Amare. That's just too big a risk due to Stoudemire past injuries. And well, Lebron is one of the top 3 players.

Riley probably plucked Mike Miller first hoping he could get a decent big man on the cheap later. Look for them to grovel at Sheed's feet come February. Or worst case scenario get a big man with mid-level in 2011.

Heat's closing line up will probably be:

Haslem
Bosh
Miller
Bron
Wade

That lineup will get pounded on inside....especially against a healthy Lakers team.

This Pau Gasol = Best Laker Center is fun, and I get where it comes from - I have my own set of idols.

However, the idea that Kareem had one weapon and one weapon only is an ignorant thought. Truth was that Kareem had one unstoppable weapon (yeah, O.K. - Wilt blocked a couple of the skyhooks so big deal). And this was the only unstoppable weapon ever unveiled in the NBA. And, no one has been able to copy it - why, I don't know. How's that for originality?

Fact: the NCAA rules committee made Kareem the man with 999 shots and they were all nearly unstoppable. Never had a finger-roll, though, and that would've made it 1000. A man doesn't score 38,000 + points in the Association with one weapon.

Maybe soon you'll find another subject to post about.

Hey justa,

No need to smack Sonny, but thanks for thinking about it.

He is/was just frustrated because I wouldn't engage him in the way that he hoped in his efforts to demean the Lakers organization.
And evidently, no one else even acknowledged his post on the previous thread.

I know Sonny is not a bad troll, he is just someone without a good basketball team to root for.

Imagine how frustrated we would all be if we were all Kings fans.

Hey - Kings were great and fun awhile back. True contenders and they almost took down the giant. Sonny should have no shame in this.

Shaq's best of many fun quotes was when he called them "The Queens." Now, that sounds like a Lakers Blogster, fer sure. For how much Sacto shouted about how they were going to take the Lakers down, they deserved The Queens moniker - and they will ALWAYS be the Queens.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar = Pau Gasol

Kareem: One Weapon, only, great post moves, poor defense, great offense, poor BBIQ, not easy pesonality, poor leadership (was Magic)

Pau: Many weapons (mini Sky hook, too), great post moves, poor defense, great offense, great BBIQ, great personality, great leadership, great teammate.

BEST CENTER: PAU GASOL.

My God is this possible! Otis I don't think I've ever done this to you before and I am sorry Otis, but I just have to say it...OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!!!

BEST LAKER POWER FORWARD:

Only Pau Gasol, the best power forward in the Laker history. Period.

Hey Staples 17 and Barry your boy Lamar Odom didn't go scoreless and was the leading rebounder and scored 9 points.

Staples 17 you are a Laker band wagoner who would trade anyone whose name isn't Andrew Bynum.

Sorry Otis, Kareem was great, but Pau is better (3 years in L.A., 3 finals and 2 rings)

And otis, Pau will be better, yet.

I think Pau Gasol will be the best Laker player all time (4-5 rings or more, for sure, with and without Kobe)

Hey Mamba24, what happend with your brain ahhahahahahahhahaha

I don't know Ricky apparently it's still here. How about yours?

By the All Star break in 2011 we will know how well the Heat function as a team on both offense and defense. Right now we only have intelligent estimates without the context of all the teams in the East that will want to beat Miami just because they are now the Miami Super 3.

Lakers vs Heat on Christmas Day 2010 will be a special treat. Bring it on.

I just have no idea about how Bosh will function in a playoff series. Has he ever played in even one playoff series game? Gasol has plenty of experience; and, Bynum played in many playoff games in 2010, even though he was hampered by a knee injury. Plus, Pau and Andrew are bigger than Bosh.

Good job, Dan Loumena, despite all your other duties while Times staffers other than Mark Median were on vacation.

I still think the best Laker's center was Kareem. Wilt quit too early - too busy chasing the ladies. Shaq was a force for three years against inferior center competition - but he was an inconsistent force and blowhard.

Hey Dan,

Love the article, can't say the same for the pic.

But then, the pic will fit nicely in the center of my dart board!

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!
Happy Holidays to you and yours Art!

Happy Labor Day Blog Family...

Mamba24 - I know it's redundant...but man you are better than a morning shower and cup of espresso...I can safely say, I'm not officially awake, till I read your morning post...you are the point guard of this blog...

ZairaAmaterasu - Thanks for your acknowledgement of my post regarding Kobe's jerseys to be retired...I was blushing like a junior high school boy getting his first kiss...lol. I was about to congratulate you on you engagement, till I read the later post...I can't see that guy not marrying you...If he doesn't, he dropped the ball big time, and must be a Heat or Celtic fan...

wes - I posted way back how much I love Ip Man...A kung fu movie with a history lesson...I like Wilson Yip, and will be on the look out for his future movies...

justa - My thoughts on opposing fans, and giving them recognition: It is always good to hear an opposing fan's views and opinions...But it takes a big person to come on an opposing forum to be accepted and recognized...first he has to be thick skinned, for reflex from fans, are usually aggressive...Then he has to show knowledge and give rebuttals and opinions with content...he has to be able to stimulate without disrespect and confrontation...Well that is a hard order, and candidates will be few...So I think since you will only find a handful, some recognition should be given...But they have to have separation from the members of the family...I suggest a separate catagory for them...Like 'Honorable Opposing Fans" Now we give the acknowledgement, but still have separation from the main brotherhood...

Sonny Belfast - what are you going to do, when the Maloof brother moves the Kings team to Las Vegas...

Dan - thanks again for tenure...don't be a stranger when MM returns...

Hey Ricky i didn't know you were in Jamaica. You must be cause you've smoking some really good #%$^$. I love Pau best Lakers PF ever (i mean its not his fault that that's the Lakers weakest position traditionally) and a great player but best Laker ever? If he cracks the top 5 he's about to have the best 5 years in basketball starting real soon.
1. Magic
2. Kobe
3. Kareem
4. Wilt
5. Jerry
And no room for Shaq, Worthy or Elgin and you have Pau on top of that list at the end of his career?

Yes, Dan - you are the man! Thank you mucho.

Hey Art - FL Laker Fan,

I understand how that photo was a little jarring. But it got your attention! We're trained to always try to throw in a link or two and photo on each post if possible. For some reason that supposedly helps juice the blog as the search engines crawl about our site.

On a personal note, I appreciate your earlier comments about my efforts.

Time to get into the office. Another night shift await.

Ricky - I love Pau Gasol as much as you do...but no need to tarnish Kareem to make your point...that one weapon only made him the leading scorer in the NBA history...

Dan - not to nitpick...today's thread was good, but when I first went on the page...A picture of the 3 Mojitos hurt my eyes...couldn't you use a picture of Kobe shooting over LeBron with a photo shopped Heat jersey...lol

MM - if you are lurking out there...when will you start posting members profiles again...
