Lamar Odom scoreless in Team USA's win over Tunisia

Odomtunisia Team USA closed out its first-round play Thursday at the FIBA World Championships with an easy, 92-57 win over Tunisia, but Lakers forward Lamar Odom was barely visible.

Odom, who started as usual at center for USA Coach Mike Krzyzewski, played 15 minutes, missed his only shot, got two boards and one blocked shot, and was scoreless. Odom was the only American player not to score.

Team USA, the top-seeded team in its group, opens the knockout round Monday against fourth-seeded Angola.

In five games in the tournament Odom, co-captain on the USA squad, is averaging 4.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 19 minutes of playing time.

WTH? LAMAR SCORELESS? Lamar God#@$#%$%$#@!!! put that Freakin candy down and play some ball man. Don't you know you are a member of the Freakin 16 time NBA Champion 4 Dynasty LA Lakers? Don't embarass us!! Now get your behind out there and shine son!!! But don't get hurt!

What's up, Lakerville! I just saw USA vs. Tunisia and thought that Lamar was taking it easy... not really banging with Tunisia's 7-foot center even though I felt Lamar could take him. But I noted that he was in the proper position most of the time. Anyway, Team USA has much to work on regarding their offensive sets and I think that LO was conserving his energy for the medal rounds. There will be bigger opponents in his near future so to speak. Well, Team USA blew out Tunisia so all's good I suppose.

Hey SamLL, thanks for the info. I would hate to think our Lamar was not representing. Yes all is good. Being a Lakerhholic that happens to us a lot! Lol!

GO LAKERS!!!

Barry - that is so very misleading a statement. LO didn't play much as noted. For one thing he put a few moves on Hadadi that would make any Lakerholic proud. Also, he kept his man away from rebounds, boxing out, to allow another USA player to get them. I could go on a little here, but I think you get the point. He played well and Coach K didn't need him in a blowout game. Sheesh - you're making it sound like to totally sucked or something.

Just Stay Healthy LO! We don't need hammy injuries, shoulder injuries, or, to emphasize my friggin' point, NO INJURIES AT ALL NEXT SEASON!!

Play Well! Play Smart! Bring Home the Gold! BUT MOST OF ALL:

STAYYYYYY HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way Justa I have done more deep thinking about Magic Phils generous offer and it really sounds very good to me! LMAO! OK I'm off the subject but...

Are they even allowed to play basketball in Tunisia? I thought they'd be too busy trying to racing around on horseback trying to grab the carcass of a dead sheep and through it through a gate or something to place basketball.

DBDH!

He's got 0-15 mpg during the 82 practice game season and 0-5 mpg for the playoffs left in the tank, which is all the Lakers need. So he can give it his all when he's on on the floor. He is a nutrition and conditioning freak, which is great! Yes, he's an upgrade over Mbenga, but not a difference maker.
Posted by: KobeMVP888 | September 02, 2010 at 07:05 AM
----------
Yes, he'll be an upgrade over Mbenga cuz Phil will trust him enough to give him minutes.

I'm just saying he's been a disappointment two of last three playoffs. So I wasn't thrilled with the signing. But hey we got Blake, Barnes, Fish, Shannon and the rooks all signed so 6 out of 7 is still a great percentage for Mitch.

Lakers three signings are to help a very depleated bench, my question is "who scores for us off the bench now? Too many defensive stoppers on this team, and Luke and Sasha are a waste of cap space and contribute nothing. Deal those two losers now.

Troll of course. Not my style.

Weird, I noticed a troll took Jon K.'s handle, and then another troll took that troll's Jon K. handle, and then a third troll took that troll's handle of the other troll's handle of Jon K. It's like some weird blog version of that awful Arnold movie The 6th Day.

Okay.
Read it all and trying to come up with my two daily basketball cents.
Now I feel almost responsible for what I say here, because after something as sweet as this:
>>>:

Zaira: Hi, never wrote to you directly but have read your poetic/funny/witty posts over time, and have always enjoyed your joyful look at life and things. In many ways you are truly the blog-goddess, you stay above the fray and your positive view on things are always refreshing.

I don't always have time to write, sometimes only have mere minutes to read but when I skim over the blog your posts (along with some other regulars) are must-reads. Had a chance to look at your personal blog, and it looks like you live life to the fullest, and bring happiness and class wherever you go. Hope you will be posting a lot more, I look forward it, your participation always raises this blog up a few notches.

Besides, you are possibly the worlds biggest Kobe fan, so gotta love that! :D

- CyberCosmiX (Mike)

<<< : one knows what expectations feels like (!)

Out of metaphores, Mike... dunno what to say.
A "Thank you" sounds really poorly compared to what you said to me, but it's the best I seem to be able to come up with.

What I can tell you is that I really enjoy being here, and getting a chance to read all of you (also those whom I don't agree with, as long as they are well-mannered, and the wide majority here certainly is) and feeling the same passion I do inform myself with in any single one of you.

You're a wonderfully passionate mirror to look into.

As for best Kobe's fan around... well, I try my best at that definitely (it comes very natural to me... he's the kind of mind and intensive human being I would love to be as well...).
But here luckily we have an excellent series of candidates for covering that spot... and I don't really aim at a solitary defending/perorating/preaching seat on Kobe here ;)

I also wanna cheer furtherly sweet Justa (you still my hero of nicknames... if you stole Princess Jimmy, you did it with such a levity and class that is like you offsprung it right from your head like Zeus did with Pallades Athena ;)), and LakerLass (Awwww!!!) whose opinion about legendary Logo to be forbidden to eventually follow in Magic's Pistons paths is COMPLETELY shared by this gal too.

A collective hug goes to phred (my guru), Larry (awww... I'm no Goddess for you... you're my example to follow if any!) and the always adorable FEARless.

And now, after having watched a couple of the USA games (yes, our National TV shows them), let me say I really don't care about Lamar's modeling deviations in talks, and I really don't put much attention in the fact he's maybe underscoring.

All that stays in my mind is: is he squeezing himself too much?
My answer is a worryingly ticking "PERHAPS".

I have too clear in mind the way Pau was prone to injuries last year out from a post-seasonal squeeze (Kobe was squeezed too, but he's overhuman so to pick him up for comparison wouldn't be really fair).
Unlike some here, I do consider Lamar a key factor in Lakers chess-game on the floor.
He can't be out of gas.

Lamar's got that kind of "aerial", kinda "artistic" input on games that may be killing adversaries, but to feel "inspired" (I know, it seems like I am speaking of Toulouse-Lautrec...) he needs to "feel his body reactive".

If and when he does, the skill flows naturally and surprisingly well and quickly (for adversaries) from his creative mind into his arms and hands.... while when he's tired, that "inner communication of an athlete" gets smacked out and he results as a lazy player out (he's not, it's just not your average kind of stick/stack player).

Lamar gotta let whomever else shine in these national games.

Honestly (sorry, here probably the fact I'm not american plays a part...?) I don't care what he performs like this summer.

He gotta be THERE when season starts.
Even though, you know, for me season in itself is just a road to playoffs.

I really think we've upgraded well in the summer.
We got FUNCTIONAL players.
People who were selected, pursued, gotten.
I trust MikeKup TOTALLY: he knew, and he knows.

Killer instinct.

I don't buy the hype of any of othes supposed "upgrades" in other teams, and even though I do admit Miami Meat got better, I'm sure their hype and their egos will just clash a lot.

And then... we all know Lakers this year need only ONE thing: a right motivation to shine once again above them all (because YEP, we still the best team, again), so having to stand the constant sirenes of hype of media putting on a pedestal OTHERS will serve us just well.

And then we will serve OTHERS just well.
Our way.
Our style.

A poisoning kool-aid party, ending aproximatively middle June.

Again in Figueroa.

Oh... why season doesn't start yet?

;) Have a great day Laker Fam...
Gotta prepare for my man coming back after a LONG day we both had.

And if you use to hang out in Lakers game chats... you do know what I mean with that ;)

Lotta Laker Luv ;) Z. :)
(yep, linking this one on Twitter too...)

Just sittin' here watchin' the wheels go round and round - I really love to watch them roll.

Mamba24 - why? You KNOW why.

(That line is my homage to "What Happens in Vegas" - hopefully you've seen it or you won't get how hilarious it is. And it IS hilarious. Cuz I'm funny dammit).

There's been a lot of "who's going to score?" when the subs are in questions, and I'm thinking that with Blake, the Triangle will actually run smoothly and, in a way, EVERYONE will score (no teenage yucks here please).

63 footer - troll under my name posted that bogus comment at 8:17am. Just trying to sow a little discord in the ranks.

@JustAnotherMambafan, If we are virtually married already and Magic Phil marries us again, that will be a repeat, back to back honey. Doesn't that sound nice? LOl! Easy Justa watch the throat honey! Lol!

Justanothermambafan, of course you are funny damnit!! Now please let go of my throat! Lol!

LRob - gotcha. (You, or your troll alternate, weren't the only one asking, though, so I thought I'd respond.)

Still, it's kinda strange, I've actually NEVER posted on this blog before, so someone stole my handle even BEFORE there was a handle to steal. Some time traveling troll no doubt.

Man, Mamba24 may be right: too much coffee. Goodbye the Ferrari.

That is Theo's role. Except for injuries, garbage time and situational Phil substitutions, I suspect we won't see him a lot. But the Lakers learned again this year that size helps win titles. It's no coincidence that the last three finals have featured LA, Boston and Orlando. The Lakers could have used another big body inside against the large and talented Celtic bigs when Bynum's minutes were limited. Now they have one.
Posted by: Tom Daniels | September 02, 2010 at 08:25 AM

Tom Daniels - I agree with that he'll be great in the locker room mentor for AB and can provide good minutes during regular season.

However, his post season play (at 10-12 minutes per night) against Orlando and Boston in the past few seasons have been subpar....and those are two teams the Lakers could very well see in the finals.

Yes, I hope and expect him to play better for the Lakers. But could we at least acknowledge that he was below expectations in those playoffs mentioned. (Not you specifically TomD...but just in general)

Lamar is Co-Captain of Team USA?

Good morning lakerholics,

@mamba24 - I've listen "I Love LA" 69 times, so I'm catching up w/ you, sir. Oh, I'm getting my VMC (Virtual Minister Certificate), so get ready and remember: You can't see the bridge on that day.

Now the article: Lamar being Lamar. Shows up every 3 games...Maybe he was just taking easy....not sure.

Funny stuff!

35pt victory...no need to worry about Lamar. He may not show up as often as we like, but he'll be there when needed the most.

Good morning Lakers faithful,

New day, new person grabbing everyone's handles and getting carried away. I'm glad to see you took this trolling light heatedly.

So, a new day for Dan, a new blocked IP on the Lakers blog list. It's like I'm Theo Ratliff and Lamar Odom rolled into one or something.

LO doesn have a way of laying low and causing concern during the regular season with his stretches of seemingly subpar play, at least for him. As for the games the last two days against Iran and Tunisia, they don't matter. Team USA wrapped up the group's top seeding into the next round with their opening run of victories against Croatia, Slovenia and Brazil, which is legitimate threat to continue challenging for the title.

And, of course, the Lakers community opens the day with some swapping of videos. Just to once again date myself, I remember going to a theater in downtown Portland as a teenager and seeing tripleheader movies featuring Bruce Lee and a very boyish Jackie Chan.

Carry on, Laker-holics.

GO LAKERS!!!

I LOVE LA #93!!!

crystal,

you wrote: Hobbitmage - size does matter. I'm not suggesting a lineup with both bynum and theo, no way that does not work. But with the except of Kobe, the Laker size was the single most imposing presence in the playoffs. Every game one matchup, oakahoma, utah, suns and the celtics was a dominant Laker win and after every one of those games the opposing teams were saying how imposing the Laker bigs were. Yes, these teams figured it out somewhat to get a couple wins but its really nice to start off a series with a Big Man slap across the opponents face. And a Win. Phil never loses after that.

my response: Perhaps you've misunderstood me. Perhaps you haven't. Let's
find out. You said, "size does matter." If size mattered, how come DJ Mbenga,
a 7 footer, got no playing time & LO, a 6-10 guy did? The obvious reason is
that skill matters more than size. I am not saying that size isn't important.
I'm saying that skill is more important than size.

Let's be honest. When you're talking about the matchup issues you're talking
about people matching up with Pau, LO & Bynum. That's 1 all star, 1 coulda/
shoulda been an all star & 1 wannabe/will be an all star some day. It's the
Lakers skilled big men not just the size of the big men.

re: imposing presence. We shouldn't quibble about this. You're short changing
Artest. Bynum was on a gimpy knee and everyone knew it. Artest did a
fantastic job on KD & PP. You can talk about intimidation all you like, but
you're short changing the other players for the sake of a cliche. Tall people
are useless if they can't move their feet fast enough. reference the Cavs last
year.

Skill & athleticism trump size. That is why Pau is crucial. He's got all 3.
That's why he was the MVP of European basketball. That's why he's been
an all star for the last 2 years. etc. etc. etc.

mamba24,

I'm here. Haven't been posting a lot. I got tired of uneducated folk trying to
beat me down while maintaining that they had the moral high ground.

I'm just jonesing for Lakers basketball and enjoying my spiffy new mac book.
It's so shiny. :)

YEa but clippers guard ERIC GORDON lead TEAM USA with 21 points. woot! go Clippers!

Eric Gordon = Stud

DBDH!

A moral question. What if these handle-stealing trolls make it to the regular season when our Celtic "friends" like 131 and Red chime back in, and what if these handle-stealing trolls steal our Celtic "friends'" handles and begin posting things like: "Wow! The Lakers are great!" "You guys TOTALLY have the greatest team evah!" "Really, other than the 60's, and there were only 8 teams in the league anyway, the Lakers are really the best!" Do we cheer for the posts, or do we not?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Very good, very good, some would even say...OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!

Mi dos centavos...(translator: My two cents)

Size does matter...AB, Pau, LO and Theo...that is a forest of tall bodies and long arms...

Yes Pau is a huge reason in our defense...but don't discount LO and AB, and I hope Theo this year...

We have read Doc River's comments on why they missed so many easy shots...It was Bynumite's presence, they all were altering their shots...

And LO, like he is doing now in FIBA...he WILL get those timely rebounds in crunch time, just like game 7...

Esto es lo ├║nico que tengo que decir...(translator: That is all I have to say)

Just lewstrs being lewstrs...

First time on blog but a laker for life. Lamar is saving his energy for medal rounds.

hey boss.. ima forward u this http://sportscomplainer.com/nba that my buddy forwarded me. its some new all in one thing or somethin . c ya tom

Carmelo looks like he's going somewhere, next year or this year. Wonder if a LO and Sasha, plus would get him? I know, probably not.

Odom scoreless against Tunisia? Did Tunisia have defensive minded Centers?

Time to trade Lamar Odom. Who can we get for Odom? Which team could be interested in Odom. Knicks?

According to Stern, planning and plotting by players is not tampering, so perhaps Kobe could work with Carmelo to figure out how to get him here?

Odom, Ebanks and Sasha for MELO.

Odom for Troy Murphy. Farmar and Odom in Nets.

Odom for Kevin Love.

Staples,

Yes on Melo and yes on Love (I think he would be a GREAT fit)!

he won't be ready for training camp or the season... he was complaining about his shoulder and fatigue when the season ended. I don't know WHY he wanted to play in the tournament. man, he's the epitome of the word hope defined: prolonged disappointment :-(

By the way (and speaking of trolls), it is really aggravating to have to deal with Keltic faithful always saying that LA only has 11 titles b/c they were in Minny for the first five. I run into this claim all over the web with variations including we Laker fans are devious prevaricateurs who slipped 5 banners up in the Staples rafters without justification.

What I find is most irksome about this is that these claimants whitewash the fact that their current incarnation is actually a transplant from Buffalo (When John Y,Brown swapped franchises with Irv Levin and Harold Lipton) and that the illustrious team of Russell, Hondo, Sam and KC Jones, Auerbach et al, is actually here in LA (the Clips). On that story, here is the kink: http://tinyurl.com/2fah73w

I would recommend fighting fire with fire. Whenever and wherever that bogus Minny claim is raised, post the Braves-to-Celts information. Do it often, send it out far and wide, until the Celtic fans have to recognize that they, too are -- what is it?--4 titles less--thus down at 13, rather than 17.

Sorry for the rant on this gloriously hot LA afternoon.

Sensei: TinyURL link is broken.

Staples 24 -

Given that the Lakers have won back-to-back titles, bringing in additional All-Star talent wasn't the priority. With Pau Gasol and Bryant, General Manager Mitch Kupchak was most concerned with adding in the right role players.

News that Carmelo Anthony may be available in trade won't raise a blip on L.A.'s radar.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=17222

I think it's safe to say, Mitch and Dr. Buss's stance is: Our hand is pat...let's see the flop, the turn, and the river...BLING!!!

#17 Coming Up...

LEWSTRS,

I always respect your game my friend, but Melo would help us get younger and would be a great post up and shooter as well. Perhaps not needed this year, but would certainly look long and hard at him this summer.

Jon K - I hear you about Barry and his brand of hater-aid. At least Dan is someone we can all respect and appreciate!

So get this - One of the presidents here in my office was in Vegas a few weeks ago, and ended up at a poker table sitting beside one of the muckety mucks from the Spurs organization. The dude was about 60 and wearing a 2007 championship ring. So they get to talking basketball and John, the guy here, asks him about the Spurs chances this year. He said the guy just shook his head and said no way they could even compete with the Lakers. So John asks him about the Meat. Again he said the guy - very matter of fact mind you - says everyone in the NBA knows that the Lakers are the team to beat, and that barring injury we will 3-peat.

So - not that I care about what a Spores guy says, but the management peeps of the NBA know who's who and what's what. Get the collection plates out now, people - we got a parade in June to pay for! LOL!!!

I don't think anyone might want to come to the lakers after next season... Kobe winding down his career... Phil will be gone... melo is a ny product so i think that's where he'll be going and i have a feeling we'll see chris paul there as well..

GO LAKERS!!

DJ - why overhaul our winning unit...

Does Carmelo's skills complement our scheme...

Do we overhaul the whole engine to get more power, but give up handling and stability...

I think we ride this current team's run...we still have unfinished business...

Front office has reiterated, they want to sign 'role players' to 'complement' this core's unit...and that's exactly what they did this offseason...

To get Carmelo, we would have to attack that core...not wise in my book...

With Odom and Bynum resting much time in the training camp, I hope to see plenty of Caracter and Ratliff during the pre-season games. We will have an idea of what they could bring to the Lakers. I am especially eager to see Caracter playing. Caracter and Greg Oden matched up pretty well in their high school and college days.

DJ - i understand where you are coming from...don't get me wrong...

Magic Phil - I heard the VCM site that you were going to do that on shut down. It was all a scam. Sorry, Mamba24 - gotta postpone!

Jon K -

"Are they even allowed to play basketball in Tunisia? I thought they'd be too busy trying to racing around on horseback trying to grab the carcass of a dead sheep and through it through a gate or something to place basketball."

I know you were joking about Tunisia, but the jokes don't really make any sense. Tunisia is not some back-assward country. It's an advanced, open culture, and probably the most liberal of all the Arab countries. Their government has councils for Women's Rights, their parliament is 20% women, they embrace tourists, and have nearly as much in common with their northern Mediterranean brethren as they do with their Arab ancestry. Seriously, go to Sidi Bou Said someday and you'd think you were in Mykonos or something.

Anyway, Tunisia is a country close to my heart so I felt the need to kind of defend it a little bit.

Knowing Phil Jackson's trick to motivate the player, sometime during the season PJ could bring either Ratiff or Caracter off the bench before Odom if he doesnt play with consistancy.

I get a kick making fun of countries that aren't America. That's just how it is. I know some people will find it offensive, but since I've declared an all-out war on political correctness, I really don't care.

Dan,
As for Carmelo Anthony, the Nuggets won't trade him anytime soon. Denver is trying to sign him to an extension, but word is Melo is going to test the free-agent market next summer. Now, if the Nuggets tank this season, maybe they'll try to move him to get some pieces to build around in the future if it appears he's done in Denver. I can't see them moving him to the Lakers, though. Although he'd be a nice fit with his superior mid-range shooting and outside-the-lane post-up game.

Dan,
I agree on Caracter as far as past is concerned but players can mature. Lakers took risk on players with questionable players before lick Nick Van Exel and Von Wafer. As for DC talents in question dribbleing is concerned some big men can dribble downcourt much like LO. In fact the NBA scouting report lists Caracter's skills as those of LO. He needs to be groomed and is then like most any draft picks a project. That is the draw.

Sorry I should have been more explicit in Melo trade. I was going on the rumors in Hoopshype, Bleacher Report and other sites that Melo wants out of Denver. There was a meeing held with Melo and his agent and Nuggets owner and his GM that went very bad. So I asked about his trade availability on the assumtion Denver has to trade him or get nothing in return.

DC fits the prospect type as a high potential player. Add Sasha, Luke's contract to even dollars out and first round pick pick or even Brown to make trade. Kobe became friends with Melo in last Olympics and gave him advice. Melo and Kobe keep in touch. So why not trade to LA.

Man - the live chat is a dead zone.

I LOVE LA #93!!!

I LOVE LA #76!!!

puddle - haven't gotten to Tunisia yet, but now you're making me want to go. Sounds like a nice exotic place to chill.

Mamba and justa - i have a friend who has done many weddings on the beaches of Malibu, Zuma and Cabo San Lucas...I will see if he can help your cause...but the last I heard...He went to Arizona for a pow wow...got hold of some peyote, and is kinda of missing right now...lol Posted by: LEWSTRS | September 02, 2010 at 02:30 PM

ROTFLMAO!!! GOD BLESS YOU LEWSTRS. No lewstrs it was just not meant to be. Thank you so much but I think we should just write a close to this saga. Who the hell did I think I was to think I could possibly be of interest to the fabulous JustAnotherMambafan. It was a beautiful dream Lew but it's time for it to end. *sniff*, *sniff*. But JustAnotherMambafan we will always have our Virtual Paris!....THE END!! *CUE THE MUSIC*

Again, on the Melo situation, I'm saying nest season in particular, if he wants to come here, he'll be a Free Agent, just like LBJ and CB. He could basically go then where he'd want to go. Our situation looks good this year, but these really good free agents are going to in short supply soon. Better grab when we can. Kevin Durant anyone? KD, why did you resign?! Ha, ha, ha!
