What have you done to pass the time during the Lakers' offseason?

Fans

Call me naive. Call me a rookie. Or call me a clueless.

But I frankly thought fans on the L.A. Times' Lakers blog would be much different this offseason. I thought they'd soak in the championship as passionately and for as prolonged a period as Ron Artest. I thought they'd go through a transformation bubble similar to Kobe Bryant, changing from über competitive to relaxed and care-free. And I thought some would just get away from it all like Phil Jackson has done in Montana, refueling and recharging for next season.

Surely there have been fans like this. But there have also been many that have dreaded the summer, feeling as if the 2010-2011 season can't possibly start soon enough. For those fans, I'm wondering if you can provide us details on how you're getting through the summer.

Do you constantly rewatch portions of last year's playoffs on your DVR? Do you relive your day at the Lakers parade? Do you frequently have dreams of the Lakers three-peating or do you wake up from nightmares that the Super Team will dethrone the two-time defending champs? Or do you just simply twiddle your thumbs hoping that time somehow speeds up?

I'd love to hear your best stories. I'll feature the top ones in a post after Labor Day, which is when I'll resume duties with the Lakers blog.

Posted waaaay too much here whilst at work :-)

I watch the last few seconds of Game 7 once every week and a half or so...just to keep my smile muscles working.

Doc Rivers comments is the funniest comedy of the summer. Funnier than Despicable Me, Dinner For Schmucks & Scott Pilgrim put together!

Nice utz!

Careful Jamie - don't get canned!
(I should talk.... here I am at work myself.... lol!)

MM - Well, since you asked - YES I'm going crazy. I've seen Games 6 & 7 (both in full on my TiVo) so many times I could call them in my sleep. I've watched every Laker playoff game (on NBATV so just the shortened versions) every time they replay. I've scoured the blog for all the links, stories & Laker tidbits I can find. I've read every single comment on every single thread. I've dreamed of the parade, Game 7 and regular season highlights. I've had nighmares involving earthquakes and either cancelled games or injuries to players. I've almost worn out my "lucky" game day Laker T-shirt and my cat still doesn't want to sit with me when I've got the couch pillows in the "game day configuration". I've downed so many vodka percoset martinis that someone over at Grey Goose really needs to cut me into the profits, plus the pharmacist knows me by name. I've seen all the Team USA practices, games and interviews they've done. Lately I've been reduced to watching WNBA games (the horror) to get a basketball fix! Seriously - is it freaking October yet???

1. Moved into the transition of living back in Los Angeles.

2. Hiked in the Santa Monica Mountains, visited the Kern River, and frolicked in the waters of Malibu.

3. Posted frantically here about players with last names of Lin, Ebanks and Caracter.

4. Watched the calendar like a sad puppy looking out the window waiting for its owner to come home.

5. Created fake news stories for the blog to help sedate my Lakeraholicism.

6. Seethed in rage awaiting the opportunity to crush the Miami Meat.

Jon K - it's ugly up in here...

*** REPOST (REVISED) ***

It's Amazing the Two Players with a Variation of the Moniker "Doc" (or "Doctor") in their names are whining.

Dr. J and Doc Rivers, OBGYN are suffering from Psychosomatic PMS! They should open up a clinic together.

(This is NOT a knock on women. In fact, they handle PMS far better than Dr. J and Doc Rivers handle their Psychosomatic PMS.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obviously, the cry baby antics of Doc Rivers and his flawed logic for why they lost the finals has been well documented by MM and our wonderful cast of blog posters.
Doc Rivers will be claiming that the Keltics still haven't defended their title when they lose in 2011 since Kendrick "Turtlehead" Perkins again won't be in the starting lineup. Doc Rivers will start Shraq in an attempt to calm Whaquille's ego tantrums.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But the question remains: "Why is Dr. J such a hater?"

The answer lies in "Jealousy"!

I remember a Lakers game against the Magic in Orlando (ABC Sunday Game) where they interviewed Dr. Jealous during a timeout.

Dr. Jealous was asked "You watched Kobe grow up. What makes him so great?" (or something to that effect). Dr. Jealous' response:

"All I remember was a punk kid. Truthfully, his sister was the better basketball player." Dr. Jealous didn't hesitate when he said this.

OBVIOUSLY, DR. JEALOUS WAS ALREADY FEARING KOBE'S SKILLS TO ACT SO PETTY WHEN TALKING ABOUT A YOUNG KID WITH SUCH HATRED!

At the time, Kobe already had 2 more rings than Dr. Jealous. I can't remember the year, but Dwight Howard was already making a name for himself (I think it was most probably the 2007-2008 season). Kobe had definitely already scored his 81 against Toronto and his 62 in three quarters against Dallas.

Dr. Jealous. You are a Petty, Sniveling Twerp who isn't worthy of carrying Kobe Bean Bryant's Jock Strap!

GO LAKERS!!!!!! ONE, TWO, THREE-PEAT TO THE THIRD POWER!!!!!!!!!

Vodka Percoset Martini's? Do I need to do an emergency prayer intervention on your behalf, Justa?

LOL utzworld - no I'm goooooood. I don't have a prollem at allllll..... Is it kinda fuzzy in here?

Watching and re-watching all the championship games. Then going back to portions of OKC, Utah and Phoenix series.

I almost forgot how sweet that gm 3 in Utah was. The deep 3's by Kobe, Fish and Ron late in 4th, the no call on the take down of Fish on the inbound play, Korver on fire, DWill clutch shots. Just great back & forth action.

Also, spent much time debating what to submit on profile....lol.

I'm currently watching L.O. and Team USA, before that it was the summer league, before that the draft... I always watch L.A. Galaxy & soccer in the summer, too.

I want to say to DOC 'CRY ME A' RIVERS: You do realize the Celtics haven't beaten the Lakers starting 5, too, right? You beat a team in '08 missing not ONE - but TWO starters in Ariza and Bynum. Not only that, the Lakers were missing their backup center too in Mihm!

Give me a break, Doc. I thought you did a heck of a job coaching this over-the-hill green team in the playoffs, but your idiotic suggestion that the Lakers didn't really beat the Celtics has downgraded your coaching in my eyes!

I'm pretty sure, ol' Doc, if the Lakers didn't have injury problems in '08 it would be 17 championships for the Lakers right now, to 16 for the putrid green Celtics, so probably you should think twice when making crazy, idiotic assertions. Be glad you guys took the Lakers to a 7th game, it's probably the furthest in the playoffs your aging team will go again...

I'm jonesing to watch game 7, would anyone be willing to burn me a copy? I can provide postage/transportation...I live in Long Beach.

Oh no, here come the shakes again...

@mamba24 - Careful yourself ;-)

So Rondo quit team USA. If he made it, it was looking like he was going to be a deep bench player anyway. Basically, the international teams discovered what no team in the Leastern conference figured out, but that the Lakers exploited...

Rondo can't shoot a lick.

Sure, he can drive to the hoop and make a layup or kick out for a shot if you double him. But if you just stand back and clog the lane and don't let him get within 10 feet of the hoop, then he's pretty much useless. Even Derek Rose is a more effective shooter than Rondo.

And FIBA ball is ALL about zoning up and clogging the lane, so a PG who can't shoot is pretty much useless. Doesn't matter that you're fast enough to beat one guy & get in the lane if FIVE guys are going to stand in the lane and wait for you to attack.

8- Young Kobe
24- New kobe
10- Olympic Kobe

I guess it's Kobe Day. Man, am I bored.

Boy, this new formatting is awful.

First of all, Mitch did a great job this offseason.

Second of all, ANY offseason is like long Bataan Death March across the surface of Mars for any Lakeraholic worth his or her salt. Really. It's not awesome.

Thirdly, "No basketball, no beer make mongo go crazy."

Fourthly, Thank Goodness that UCLA football is about to start. At least its something.

GO LAKERS!!!

Reconnected with other parts of my life. Household fix-it projects, movies on Netflix, exercise.

But I'm a fair-weather fan. Like the Lakers, I won't really pay much attention until most the season is done and it gets closer to the playoffs.

Never thought I'd care so much about the off-season, but the free agency was a better soap opera entertainment than most of the games!

I watch game 7 at least 3 or 4 times a week. I accidentally deleted game 6. If anyone hears that the playoff games are coming back on as a re-run, let me know. I really want game 6. That was show time all over again.

Remade my version of Nike's "Frozen Moment" with Kobe's "Shot heard around the world".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEefeH-xqQI

Big ups to the Mamba for sowing the seeds of the Lakers' future COLD WAR with the heat.

16 will get you 20. BUT 17 will get us EVEN.

What MM goes on vacation and we are justa expected to deal with a whiny idiot...again?

JR

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More justa-jacking talk??????

How do keep sane during the Lakerless summer? I watch Dodger baseball and pretend it's the Lakers out there, not the Dodgers.

1B - Derrick Caracter (big target, heft to hit for power)
2B - Steve Blake (quick, nimble)
3B - Matt Barnes (mobile, good arm, could hit for power)
SS - Sasha Vujacic (quick, mobile, high OBP from getting plunked 100 times per year)
LF - Devin Ebanks (in the Dexter Fowler mold)
CF - Shannon Brown (to make spectacular wall catches)
RF - Ron Artest (with his shaky hands, not sure where else to put him)
C - Derek Fisher (sturdy, good game caller)
SP - Lamar Odom (6'10, lefty, claims he can throw 88mph... http://wn.com/Lamar_Odom_Clayton_Kershaw)
Closer - Kobe Bryant (who else?)

Manager - Phil Jackson
Medical Trainers - Andrew Bynum and Theo Ratliff
Owner - Jerry Buss (wouldn't that be nice?)
Organist - Pau Gasol (could play Tchaikovsky at age 11)

Then I snap out of my daydream and Manny is sucking up $25 million, Torre looks less interested in the outcome of his team's game than Phil Jackson, Matt Kemp is striking out again, and the McCourts are vying for the world's worst people and sucking the life from the team.

Now, back to imagining the Lakers...

Ahhhhhh. Much better.

justa topical haiku:

Such an angry boy.

end to end to end.

Guys, NBAtv shows game 7 all the time! It is the #1 game of the season's top-10, and as I write this they are CURRENTLY showing it! It's a 1-hour recap, but most of the game!

By the way, there is NOTHING to replace the Lakers, so I think most of us Laker fans spend a good portion of the summer simply counting down the days until training camp starts. It's only about 5 weeks away!

tick. tock. tick. tock. tick. tock... OH COME ON ALREADY!!!! LETS START THE SEASON EARLY!!!!

Oh well, the USMNT is fun to watch at least!

Has anyone noticed the great two-man, pick-and-roll game that Odom and Billups has been running? I hope that we'll be seeing the same thing with Blake and Odom this coming year!!!

GO LAKERS!!!!! GO USA!!!!!

Back to insta posting Woooohooooo! Its party time!

justaHalosAnt - have I ever told you you're my favorite halo? :)

hey, some trolls. How retro.

What do I do to keep busy? Oh, you know, job, family, travel, controlled substances. The usual.

You guys want to hear something truly terrible? I don't have tivo or NbaTV. I haven't watched Game Seven since, well, Game Seven. No, don't feel too bad for me, I find it sharpens my attention and heightens my senses when I am watching live games. Besides, when I watch replays, I keep thinking blasphemous thoughts like 'man, Luke Walton made a great pass there. And Kobe really shouldn't have tried to shoot that.' and "Wow, Lamar really plays hard.'

Seriously. So it's just as well, I would spend all my time tilting at the windmills of Blog Mob Mentality and lose my sense of humor.

@Noah - nice haiku bruh...

@MM - I have watched:
The the 2009 DVD about 200 times...
The 2010 DVD about 100 times...
4th Quarter game 7 about 150 times...
Complete game 7 about 50 times...
Exit interviews about 100 times...
Lakers on Kimmel show about 50 times...
Laker player exit interviews about 50 times...
Artest tweets I've check million times...
Laker Blog profile I rewrote about 5 times...
Anything Lakers, I soak up, like the desert in a rain...(sorry Fatty)
So yes...I have Laker Delirium Tremens

@justa - I'm having a hell of a time looking for justapiece of anything Lakers...

@puddle - lol...Dodgers as Lakers...whatever helps keep the jonesing down...

phred - those thoughts are NOT blasphemous. It's the Blog Mob Mentality that's scary sometimes. The offense DOES run better with Luke out with the bench guys. Kobe DOES try to overpass sometimes. Lamar ALWAYS gives heart and effort. You, sir, are not tilting at windmills. You are a bulwark against fallacious, malicious ideas promoted by those who would see the blog collapse in upon itself in a frenzy of in-fighting, back-biting and tyrannical abuses of not only free speech but of all that is good and right in this world. Stay the course. Stand tall and true, oh ye of Laker wisdom and love. We shall overcome.

Oh, and some days, internet time wasting. I would love to hear some suggestions of some of the non basketball related sites and blogs that other people visit (you know, ones that involve people with their clothes on. Let's be considerate here).

I'm working on a list. Can we post links to stuff with dirty words?

I spend my time working. That means when the regular season starts, is my boss nightmare, hehe....

thanks justa. Just between the two of us, I sort of think that too sometimes, but it keeps everything more peaceful if I maintain a cheery sort of irony and don't point out all the naked emperors all the time.

I mean, that is LTLF's job.

MM~~

"Or do you just simply twiddle your thumbs hoping that time somehow speeds up?

I'd love to hear your best stories."
=======================

I have been trying to get into the baseball season more, but it's just soooo long.
I tried sleeping more, that's pretty fun.
I read the blog and see threads with just 30 posts and wonder what's wrong with you people, where are you, why aren't you writing stuff, and then I remember, oh yeah, the season the ended a few months ago.
Lots of sleep can make you lose track of dates and stuff.
I scour the internet for any Laker news and even resort to reading ESPN for news.

While looking for obscure Laker news I came across a website that detailed how to make time speed up.
I tried it.
It worked.
So lately I have been spending time in the future watching and re-watching the Lakers win the 2011 Finals.
I won't spoil it for the rest of you by giving too many details, but a few things I will share.
During the last game of the regular season Shaq falls in the locker room showers and bruises his butt. While he could still play, he sits out the playoffs and says since he got hurt on company time, he will heal on company time.
An already fragile team chemistry totally disintegrates and the Celtics are bounced out in the second round after getting swept by the Bulls.
Wanna know about about 2012?

Well jeez. Thanks a lot Art. Spoiler...

The trolls are lovely. They help to (re)validate us as the greatest sports franchise in the history of the NBA. See the pride that Chrissy, Chester and the other trolls feel when they smack talk us? You can almost hear them high fiving their 11 year old buddies after they post their drivel.

All together now, class: THEY HATE US BECAUSE THEY AIN'T US!

Art, never admit going to the future...there are protocols in place to deal with time travelers....

JR

justa,

Surely nothing was spoiled for you. You will just re-watch it over and over again anyway!
=====

JR,

Protocols?
I didn't know about any protocols.
Oops.
Keep it quiet, ok.

Jon K - you're back in L.A. eh? That's good news.

Listened to any Bob Seeger lately? Neither have I. How about Count Basie? Him, I listen to.

At my wife's request, we moved up the hill in late May - my TV was not set up for the finals, and I listened to Spiro on the radio. I still have not seen game 7, but I did go to game two - what a bad game to spend money on.

I am amazed at the passion on this blog.

Got to see Larry on facebook during his meltdown - a good looking dude with a big smile.

Would like to see justanothermambafan - I've heard mucho about her. I'd also be interested in seeing what LakerTom looks like. Jon K, as well.

Full moon walk up Franklin Canyon tonight, meeting at lookout point. I'll be there - will you?

I spent this summer like I spent last summer, and plan to spend next summer. Buying my championship gear, and re-watching the playoff wins all over again. And it must say, it is not getting old. The anticipation of the next season always gets old.

I watch '10 playoff games whenever I have nothing else to do, lol. Especially Game 6 and 7 from the Finals. Countless times...

Art- I call BS on you. No way Shaq is going to stay healthy until the last game of the season.

First post but I hv been reading them for a long time.

I have spent a depressing summer waiting for this season's tip-off. Checked blogs and site for any info on new recruits at least 24 times a day.

phred,

I didn't say that was Shaq's "only" injury.
As I said in the post, I didn't want to give too many details.

You have violated the Prime Directive, ART...

I'm on disk 6 of the audiobook version of Phil Jackson's "The Last Season"

First post but I hv been reading them for a long time.

Welcome aboard, LakersSince73!
This is what most of the blog crue is doing lately.

Welcome LakersSince73 - sounds like you're a Lakerholic too so you'll fit right in here!

Art - yeah - you're probably right about that!

Otis - patience is a virtue. The time will come....

wow i feel like a wimp for only having seen game 7 about 7 times. besides watching highlights from this season, i've read basketball books: last season, jordan rules, playing for keeps and i'll be starting the last shot. pj should write a book about next season. it would be interesting to know about this team's dynamics from his perspective.

LUCK LUCK LUCK as in location location location.........home court home court home court...........how big of a role did luck play in lakers winning the title.

1. Was it luck that Bynum's defensive play took Perkins out of final game 7?
2. Was it luck that Ron Artest had a great game?
3. Was it luck that lakers had home court advantage?
4. Was it luck that Lakers won in spite of poor showing by Kobe,?
5. Was it luck that Shasha made both the free throws?

pj should write a book about next season.

Let me know if Phil wants to use that website about how to speed up time.
But then, it's probably his site.

I'll keep drinkin' 'til then.

Old Hippy,

1. no
2. no
3. no
4. no
5. no

Read this blog everyday and finally decided to start posting. That made me read even more carefully to see if anyone responded to my comments and to see if there was anything else worth responding to. Discovered a few things:

1) Bynum is the most polarizing figure in sports history
2) There are people as neurotic or more neurotic than me about the Lakers
3) The cure for Lakerholism is a concotion of vodka and percocet?
4) Offseason sucks

Otis,

1) I love Count Basie, but I had to travel light and left my records in Ohio.

2) I gave Mark Medina a picture for my profile. Expect to be shocked.

3) I'd love to check out Franklin Canyon tonight, but have a freelance project that I need to work on in Downtown Los Angeles after my day gig ends.

LakerFanInCowTown -

I know we spoke briefly in the chat the other day, but let me be the first to officially welcome you to the most dysfunctional and lovable Laker family there is. I can already tell you'll fit in well here.

LakerFanInCowTown

1. Didnt you know that Bynum is the most polarizing figure in sports ? Nice to see you up to speed lol
2. There are definately neurotic people and here , but i think things are getting better
3. As far as the cure, Let me try that haven't tried that yet
4. YES Off season sucks a bunch

Questions for Everyone , who will contribute more?
Shannon Brown vs Matt Barnes ?
Fisher vs Steve Blake?
Ebanks vs Caracter?

RICO TICO -

Barnes
Blake
Caracter

Those are my guesses.

RICO TICO,

"Questions for Everyone , who will contribute more?

Matt Barnes

"Fisher vs Steve Blake?"

Blake on the floor during the regular season; Fisher in the locker room during the regular season (chemistry), on the floor during the playoffs.

"Ebanks vs Caracter?"

Caracter.

Barnes
Blake
Ebanks

@Old Hippy

I believe this might help answer all questions in regards to luck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5cOqCjInYI

Matt Barnes will deadlock Shannon Brown in terms of contributions. I think Brown will out perform Barnes at Staples and Barnes will be a nice guy to have on the road, both in the playoffs and the regular season.

Fisher will out perform Blake in the playoffs but Blake will have a better regular season.

Dunno enough about Ebanks or Caracter so I'll guess...Ratliff. S'kinda cheating, I know, but there it is. I'll take savy over raw.

RICO-

I think you are looking in the wrong place for answers. We are still debating

Pau and Odom vs Pau and Bynum

Fisher vs Farmar

and

Trevor Ariza vs Ron Artest.

Heck, some people are still debating Norm Nixon vs Byron Scott.

Wow, that is one gratuitous arm pit shot there. Must be a Pau Gasol homage, as he is the master of gratuitous arm pit shots.

on a related note, does anyone know where I can find one of those Laker colored Cat in the Hat hats like that guy is wearing? By find I mean order online or buy in South Dakota, not telling me there is a guy in a booth on Melrose selling them, I sort of assumed that.

Passing the time time this offseason has been easy for this long time Laker fan and child of SoCal. Thanks to this wonderful economy I got laid off after 23 years, looked for a job, packed up the family in the covered wagon and moved to Portland starting a new career with Providence...a Laker fan in Blazer country it is. The Pacific Northwest is everything I hoped it be...I'm very happy with my new job and our new home. The rivers are beautiful and its all about substainability and going green...what a concept! Looking forward to next season and our new bench...I can hardly wait!
P.S. They hate the Lakers & Kobe up here...it will be fun wearing my purple & gold!

I forgot to add one very important thing I'm also doing this summer, while I wait and wait for the season to start:

I'm thinking up ways to torment, torture and otherwise mercilessly harass MM if he doesn't take me to the ASG in LA with him. Believe me, I've got quite the list.

Kobeayahashimarue- (is there a good abbreviation for that?) (and to quote i think Steven Wright, why is abbreviation such a dang long word)-

I am jealous of anyone in Portland right now. Well, sort of. Be sure to check out Powells, Kell's, and the Farmar's Market for me...I miss that place.

@LFICT

(misty highway, lantern appears ahead as if floating when suddenly through the etheral swirls steps a craggy old-timer straight out of your velvet black-light Led Zepplin poster)

The off season, eh? Yessss, that's where dreams go to die. Where free agents are sacrificed on the great alter of almighty boob-toob. Oh-yes, I've heard the justifications but people got to lay off of Joe Johnson, he only signed the richest contract in NBA history a'cause it was put right there under his schnazola. Would you have done any different?

The off season, a black pit of un-holy boredom spent in maddening anticipation. Knowing that sooner than later there will be basketball again...it's just *so* hard with the Angels and Dodgers playing so terribly this season and football being so...footbally, by that I mean devoid of true excitement.

But vodka and percocet as a cure? No, no, a tasty Sierra Nevada brewed from the mountains you can sometimes see through the black, noxious roil that is the air in Los Angeles. A sud and some of nature's sweetest herbs with some friends and a DVD of your favorite bands live show with some veggie burgers grilling in summer...there be the cure for your off season blues.
(old timer shuffles off, cheap special effects are shut off)

Now, on the topic of the young master, Andrew Bynum. In an era where centers like Benoit Benjamin or Michael Olowokandi might have been a valuable commodity, one so young and gifted as Bynum has shown he may will do nothing but stir up a fire storm of opinion. Since he has endured two-freak accidents and two gutsy post seasons without conclusively showing he's either a truly talented big man, or a mediocre big man with very solid fundamentals.

To me the point of how great he is now, or in the future, is moot as long as the team keeps winning championships. The Lakers are the team we are all pulling for.

Also, I think Nancy Kerigan is the most polarizing figure in sports history.

Is it late October, yet?

DBDH!

3. Posted frantically here about players with last names of Lin, Ebanks and Caracter.
Posted by: Jon K. | August 24, 2010 at 01:51 PM

Man, I forgot that Lin was all the rage for about a week here. I thought he was a good enough prospect to sign, but not at the expense of anyone currently on the roster. It would have been nice to sign him and carry 15 players. GS is a better situation for him.

Any predictions on how Lin will do his rookie season? He should get some pt in Nelly's wacky system so I expect him to do well. I will watch GS a little closer to see Lin's progress. Will that new owner please put Nelly out of his misery GS fans deserve better.

If I ever need a lawyer or a stockbroker, I am totally going to Lin, Ebanks and Caracter.

I bet they would do so much better than those idiots at Dewey, Cheathem and Howe.

--------

Triagulator - I think you nailed it. I remember that old comment Doc about Kobe and brushed it off as no biggie. Then I remember another time he said Kobe doesn't do enough to help his teammates. Now he says the Lakers were fortunate Perkins was hurt. When you add it all up Doc appears to have a good old fashion case of ENVY.

Doc had the talent to dominate like Kobe, but he wasn't "selfish" enough. If he would've demanded the ball more, who knows he might have another ring or two. Sorry Doc, don't hate Kobe and the Lakers cause they dominating like you and your Sixers couldn't.

As I type this, I'm watching the last 11.7 seconds of the 2009-2010 season...again!

Just a couple burning questions....

Is there any money stashed in the visiting locker room we can sneak in and get?

How long did coach Spoelstra last?

Did Sheed come back mid season?

Did phred, FEARless and I find that game where Kobe grabbed the rim and dunked off a miss free throw?

I'll consult with you privately for some fantasy bball tips.

I did go to game two - what a bad game to spend money on.

Blake in regular season/Fish in playoffs
Caracter - offense skills is suited perfectly for the triangle.
Ebanks - no playing time behind Ron & Barnes

Heck, some people are still debating Norm Nixon vs Byron Scott.

Wilt or Van Breda Kolff

on a related note, does anyone know where I can find one of those Laker colored Cat in the Hat hats like that guy is wearing? By find I mean order online or buy in South Dakota, not telling me there is a guy in a booth on Melrose selling them, I sort of assumed that.

Should we tell PHRED where to find it?
Now, what SHOULD we do?
Well...What would YOU do
If phred asked YOU?

Oops, I just passed the five consecutive post maximum.

LRob,

You are free for five more.

@LRob - Thanks, love me some Primus/Les Claypool in his many incarnations.

To all leprechauns coming to this blog including to the ever changing handle old hippy worry on the Heat, Magic before getting to the Lakers. Sad that LakerTom is not posting and got swept by this tricky cranium-deficit leprechauns.

I missed the decent Celtic fans like Red, Green lunatic and also 131. They are polite, civil and less volatile.

Therefore, fellow Laker fans beware in confronting with leprechauns, we didn't refer them that identity for nothing. They're in the shade of Red Auerback arrogant and blood thirsty.

But I frankly thought fans on the L.A. Times' Lakers blog would be much different this offseason - MM

~~Welcome to LA. Lakers won the Championship b2b, was that a big deal? Nope. They are supposed to win every year, that's the kind of Laker fan we are. If they produce players like Kwame-Smuch-Cookie, those were abnormal years we call that Clipper-liked performance. There is just too many attractions here in LA from theme parks, concerts, beaches, mountain, festival etc. we won the Championship...move on and plan again for the next season. If Clippers get to the playoffs, that's their Championship. lol!

It's cool LRob, it's not your fault nobody else is posting.

I think me getting one of those hats might determine whether I do a profile or not, cause if I get one, I'm gonna have to take a picture of me wearing it. And once I have a picture of me wearing it, I'm gonna definitely going to have to post that photo.

Now, let me see if I can use my hereto unknown and amazingly precocious skills at sewing to fashion myself a 'phred' costume so I can venture out and show myself without giving away my secret identity.

Too bad Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko still aren't around to give costuming tips.

puddle - remember you from the chat, thanks for the welcome. hmmm, I've joined a dysfunction family...is there another kind? lol

looking forward to hearing what people have to say when season begins.

my vote is for barnes, blake regular season/fisher playoffs, and (I agree with Jamie - btw the imagery of your response was so tangible, I swear I could smell the "herbs" you referred to...) Ratliff

Hey Edwin - your post reminds me of something my friends and I talk about. Sometimes there's no joy when the Lakers win a game, just relief.

My favorite kind of win is when they dominate the first couple quarters, then coast to a win. Much less stressful...no broken TVs or torn shirts...

I watched game seven over and over again for a week, smiling. Then it was on to the next one, I told anyone that would listen that the Lakers needed to sign Blake and Barnes, and they did much to my suprise! Of course I watched LeBron go from loved to hated in a day, and I had to smile some more. This just validates what I have been telling other fans "Kobe is the last of a dying breed..."

Prior to going on my vacation for a month, I watched the finals against the Celtics each time it came on ESPN. It was painful, because it remained me of how I spent most of my time watching that game 7 in the fetal position. Now (since I'm still on vacation), I spend some of my time reading the Laker blogs, and reading other sites, for negative news about the Heat, and Celtics. Shameful.

LFinCowTown,

Just observe this blog when Lakers lose a game or two in a row, the sky is falling & trade all the neanderthals but when they win, it's hysterical for the Lakerholics but the majority of the oldtimers are just happy and review the miscues. Hard to please Los Angelinos who have been spoiled by the legends & the late Chick Hearn, anything short of it is misplaced & would gladly ask for the headless Coach or superstar at the Nokia Live. That's why I don't want to join the Lakerholics because we are the Laker perfectionists. We have no appetite for on/off Odom or Bynum always injured or a jerky machine.... man you're getting big bucks to be counted during big games. LMAO!

I meant to say it reminded me.

Regarding Dr. J: I remember attending a 1984 Olympics volleyball match at the Long Beach Convention Center with my dad, and there were two games. During the intermission in between games we got a bite to eat at the little cafe in there. We sat down at one of the 4 or 5 little tables in there, and about a minute after we sit down, Julius Erving comes in with his two sons.

Mind you, Dr. J in July '84 is just about the biggest athlete on the face of the earth.

Anyways, he orders some sandwiches and soup, and sits down to eat at the table right next to ours. He is very attentive to his kids, joking and laughing with them the whole time, and they are very well behaved and mannered. I remember thinking that he was a cool dad.

Looking back, I can't believe this is the same person that rejects the daughter that he fathered, professional tennis player Alexandra Stevenson. It took him 10 years to finally come out and watch one of her games. As much attention he places on his boys, he totally rejects this girl that is as much his blood as they are.

Anyways, he's a jerk. Supposedly, Dr. J rejects her because supposedly there are his kids all over the place, accepting her opens the door for all those other kids to come around. On interviews he comes across as arrogant and bitter, it just comes through whatever he says. A great player, but a lousy human being...

I was seriously contemplating traveling to London or Spain to watch the Lakers' exhibition game (both games sold out); contemplated a vacation by going to all of the Lakers' road games during one of their short road trips; erased all of my 5 year-old niece's high school musicals on fios just so I had room for games 5 and 6 of 2009 finals championship against the Magic, games 1, 3, 5 and 7 of 2010 finals against the Celtics, 1 hour NBA Special featuring Lakers' 2010 championship run; the 1 hour Association special; re-watched Game 7 at least 100 times this summer; bought the Sports Illustrated special on Lakers, received two cupcakes decorated in the purple and gold; waiting for single game tickets to go on sale; read this blog religiously every single day; listen to sports talk radio (esp. anything on the Lakers) and tried to follow the Dodger games in the hopes of making time pass more quickly - - all to no avail. I can't wait for the Laker season to start. How will I survive another two months?????

Should we tell PHRED where to find it?
Now, what SHOULD we do?
Well...What would YOU do
If phred asked YOU?

HAHAHAHAA....RFLMAO!!!!!!STOP IT HAHAAA...

TOO MANY ATTRACTIONS IN LA:

wrote blogs prolific writer/philosopher/elder:

There is just too many attractions here in LA from theme parks, concerts, beaches, mountain, festival etc. we won the Championship...move on and plan again for the next season. If Clippers get to the playoffs, that's their Championship. lol!

Response:

Too many attractions in LA? yeah, would smog be one of them? would traffic be one of the them? Or how about them trees laden with brown soot be an attraction? Oh Santa Monica beach or Santa Monica sewage be an attraction? Would strip mall capital of the world be an attraction? Man so many attractions in LA compared to San Francisco. Oh how I miss living in Pasadena.....

See I told you he is a leprechaun with his whole body and soul. He changes names so often to dis the regulars here. He got on Mamba, then LakerTom is there anyone who'd like to converse with this puke? Beware of names that you are not familiar in this blog, I believe he was also Captain Jack during the finals and assumed the name Laker Fan. We used to have a blogger by that name by more polished and civil than this troll. What good do Laker fans get in maintaining dialogues with leprechauns? Nothing, it's aggravation and deprivation of intellectual repertoire.

Only a 2-post veteran so far, so be gentle.

Spent my summer:

1. Watching the trainwreck that was "The Decision", sorry CLE.

2. Surprisingly, keeping up with off-season moves that don't involve Mitch and LA.

3. Pondering how many years Greg Oden will have aged since last year. At his current rate, he should be looking like an in-shape Bill Russell.

4. Prepping for Fantasy Football, and depressed that LA probably won't get a team for another decade.

5. Wondering why anyone on this blog would want Tracy McGrady in a Laker uniform >< Sorry, no offense!

6. Watching the second half of Game 7 almost every Sunday before Entourage starts on HBO.

7. Brainwashing my 7 month old daughter into loving everything Lakers (since birth, it's totally working, she loves watching the games, I've convinced myself it's the Lakers, but it's really the movement and color contrast on the HDTV, lol).

Edwin Gueco:

Just so you know you conjecture that I am a Boston fan, CJ or that I had issues with lakerTom is not true. Besides, I should not have to defend against your false accusations. The only reason you are all bent out of shape is that you can’t handle opposing views and become incoherent and belligerent. My dis is not towards you but LA as a place to live and I am entitled to my two cents, fair?

Here is what old hippy said on August 19th to one of our bloggers:

You have to understand MM is a biased reporter because he would not ban posters that sing his praises. In fact he welcomes them back in spite of these posters who have used foul lingo and threatened others of physical harm. Go figure, not a big fan of MM but I tolerate him.

Posted by: Old Hippy | August 19, 2010 at 03:03 PM

~~He later referred to LakerTom from Northern Cal with porno the beast. This guy inflamed a lot of bloggers here. How old is the handle "old hippy", how about the handle "showtime"? how about the handle "Laker Referee"? Go back to the archives to see how venomous and vicious this guy is with different handles. His objective is to mock, destroy and creates intrigue against LakerTom, Blitz and Hobbit. That is the description of a leprechaun.

Cyber - He's definitely made some mistakes off the court (who among us haven't). Anyway just wanted you to know he reconciled with his daughter a few years ago. This is a very good article:
