Ron Artest takes on Doc Rivers via Twitter

Artest Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers created a fuss recently when he said the Lakers "still have not beaten our starting five. Our starting five against the Lakers starting five has a ring. Tell them, don't forget that. We'll be back strong and Perk will be here next year if there's a Game 7."

Rivers was referring to Celtics center Kendrick Perkins who went down in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, then  missed Game 7 as the Lakers won the title. Perkins is recovering from surgery on his torn ACL.

Ron Artest weighed in, via Twitter, on all this:

"Boston lost to Lakers because of Kendrick Perkins injury. What about in 08 when Bynum was injured. What about this year Bynum was injured...

"What about Kobe played with a broke finger...What about Ron artest defense When the Boston staff said Ron artest was too slow...

"Doc got one million excuses...

"The lakers with Bynum in the playoffs healthy has not lost...

"Let's see if my defense is less effective this year...

"So Boston is going to championship right past Miami?"

Artest also has a career-change in mind; think George Foreman.

Again, from Artest's tweets:

"I had a great boxing training camp this summer. It also got me ready card wise for season...

"Im Looking forward to trying to pursue heavyweight title. I'm sure it will be tough but I am up for the challenge. In four years...."

GO LAKERS!!!

Barry,
Thank you for talking Lakers stuff. There was a post done when Rivers made his comments 6 days ago not 2 weeks ago. Please keep us informed about tweet wars and updates. Keep up the good work.

Questions I want answered:

1. Seriously, what's up with Luke Walton's back? This is huge because it is going to effect minutes more than any other factor next year.

2. Is Matt Barnes staying out of trouble?

3. Thriller is doing boxing training? Where? With who?

4. What's up with Kobe's finger?

5. Is Shaq living in Boston now? What's his weight?

6. Is LeBron James STILL sacrificing puppies to Ba'al or has he moved on to joining some Cthulu cult already?

7. Who was it who actually thought Chris Bosh was a leader again?

8. Has Dwayne Wade realized that he has two doucebags on his team yet?

9. How's Bynum's knee?

10. I want to know more about Steve Blake, our silent killer.

11. What are Ebanks and Caracter presently up to?

12. How angry is Trevor Ariza at his agent right now?

13. Is Magic REALLY serious about buying the accursed Pistons? Really? Really?

14. Why don't we hear more about James Worthy or Elgin Baylor? They must be up to something.

15. Why is it that no one ever talks about Gail Goodrich? I mean, his fricken number is hanging from Staples Center, right?

16. What ARE the actual criteria the Lakers use to retire a jersey?

17. Does Vlade Divac still work for the Lakers?

18. Which former Lakers are still on payroll for the Lakers as administrators/consultants?

19. When will the L.A. Times buy justanothermambafan and I some tickets for the preseason this year?

20. What's the best Lakers bar in Los Angeles? I need to find a lucky barstool. This is important!

Justa,my sista, You are just plain spunky..Gotta love your determinaton. Do you have kid's that play sports or did you play sports? I bet you are very competetive and like me our husbands don't stand a chance with being ever being right. LOL

Barry:

Thank you and keep up the good work.

You are doing an excellent job!!

Some poster named Muhammad used bad language yesterday - that could be why insta-post was turned off.

JustaLakerFan,
you wrote: But really Times can enforce or not enforce rules they want to? No that is called stopping freedom of expression and discrimination.
my response: With respect your are incorrect as to what the law actually
says.
In a *private* industry you do *NOT* have the write to say whatever you
want without repercussions. A *private* company has the right to enforce
or not enforce whatever rules they want so long as it does not break a
state or federal law.
It is for *this* reason that the NBA is able to fine players and coaches for
saying bad things about the refs.

Can't wait for season to start and looking forward to training camp.

Jon K,
I was with you until 19. LOL.
If you are in LA now welcome home.

Typical Celtic excuses...I work in Boston and all they do is live in denial....22 years w/o a title and you would think they are the Celtics of Russell and Cousy...Bynum out and Ariza not healthy in 2008 was not important according to them...but Perkins was. How about the Lakers just being better and having a REAL home court advantage this year where the crowd made a difference unlike in 2008 when the poseur celebs dominated the scene...Boston will be lucky to get out of the east, especially with the Big Has Been now on the team

JON K HAS BEEN IMPOSTERED! NEVER! EVER! WOULD HE MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THE 11:00 AM POST.

Dude didn't even have the common decency to attempt to type the real Jon K's signature!

Time once again for moderation.

Wow, pop in to take a look around and I see this. I guess it's goodbye the insta-post.

It sucks how in life one to a handful of trolls can ruin what would otherwise be a joyful experience for everyone else. I think these scum seethe with that "power" because internally they feel their worthlessness and react by ruining things for people who have worth.

I am officially done posting here till MM gets back.

Just watching the 1st quarter of USvsBrazil.. Barbosa n Splinter are killin the US team.. this team is lack of good DEFENDER.. Kobe did a really good job on Barbosa in 2008.. and look how they play now without a fierce defender like kobe..

GO LAKERS!!!

Great to hear that Lamar is playing well. Hoping his shoulder problems are under control.

I can understand how Ron got into Twittering about Quack Rivers remarks. Quack's remarks were insulting. LABob44's remarks about Boston fans are on the mark, just take a peek that their blogs ... "Lakers are overrated, Perkins was injured, refs fixed the game, the stars were not aligned properly in the Keltic constellation, ..." Do they really think Perkins is that good? Yes, the Lakers/Fakers are an "Overrated" team that just went three years straight to the NBA Finals and won twice, despite our own injury problems, and are favored by experts to go for a 3 PEAT this year ... jeez.

Boston is not overrated, they have some great players, they play hard, they are very experienced, and we have to play really hard at both ends of the court to beat Boston. How about giving us the same respect?

gotta love ron-ron, heavyweight boxer when his nba career is over! ha ha. he's going to take his game to a higher level this season! watch out nba opponents!

my response:
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/freespeech.html

snippet:
What Is the FCC’s Responsibility

The FCC is barred by law from trying to prevent the broadcast of any point of view. The Communications Act prohibits the FCC from censoring broadcast material, in most cases, and from making any regulation that would interfere with freedom of speech. Expressions of views that do not involve a “clear and present danger of serious substantive evil” come under the protection of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The FCC cannot suppress such expressions. According to an FCC opinion on this subject, “the public interest is best served by permitting free expression of views.” This principle ensures that the most diverse and opposing opinions will be expressed, even though some may be highly offensive. However, the Commission does have enforcement responsibilities in certain limited instances.

For example, the Courts have said that indecent material is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution and cannot be banned entirely. It may be restricted, however, in order to avoid its broadcast when there is a reasonable risk that children may be in the audience.

So ... This actually isn't a broadcast. I don't think it's covered by the FCC.

So the most recent rumor is that LeBron James is converting to Judaism.

Hey, Doc, the Lakers starting 5 beat your starting 5 in 3 of the 4 games they won against you. Also, we didn't have our big man, Bynum, start in of the game's the Lakers lost in the series, and that didn't stop the L.A. from winning the series. Stop making excuses, Doc. If you ask me, I think the Celtics played better without their so called great center, Perkins. Regardless, the Lakers were clearly the better team, and the NBA helped make this series go past 5 games ($$$) by very questionable, game changing calls that went against the Lakers. Without the league's cheating officials, the Lakers easily win that series in 5. Just have another look at game 1, a game that didn't feature any crooked officiating, and you'll see how easy the Lakers handled, and beat the Celtics in the series opener.

To the little identity confused Troll -
Obviously you know nothing:

1. I was the Chippendale's dancer...until the Surgeon General required the warning on the front of the building, which read: "The sight of a naked Jolly Rancher may cause temporary blindness, loss of appetite, and uncontrollable vomiting". After that they would only let me perform on Bulimia Night.

2. I don't do anything for free, even being happy about someone's love life, so the JollysFreeGayLove@aol.com should read JollysPayGayLove@aol.com. If you want to pay me to be happy about your love life, groovy.

As to other business, I just finished USA vs Slovinia. USA looked a lot like the Lakers this year. Get a big lead, lose focus, try to be showtime, tune back in when the lead is in jepardy. Not a good sign when you have to face great international teams later.

On to the US Open (Rodick needs to focus too. The French guy isn't going away in the second set)

JR

PERFECTLY SAID, RON! Doc is making up all kinds of BS excuses for why his team LOST! DID YOU HEAR PHIL JACKSON SAYING THE CELTICS DIDN'T BEAT OUR STARTING 5 WHEN BYNUM WAS INJURED IN 08?!? YOUR TEAM WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO BEAT THE LAKERS, DOC! DEAL WITH IT!

Did someone mention lucky stool?

On the Bacon topic, I can't get over the fact that there is such a thing as Baconaise, or that it also comes in Baconaise Light.

I guess if you love your Baconaise, but you still want to eat healthy. . .

Guys,

I just read some of the most vile and hateful things I've ever read in a public, mainstream forum in the posts that follow the story of Iran finally getting an international tournament victory of Tunisia on Yahoo's sports page. I thought the world's sports fans would be congratulatory.

NOT!

Oh my God, was it just despicable! Seeing that has made me appreciate this blog so much more.

I can't really believe what my eyes just saw.

Even though we complain sometimes, we are really spoiled here.

That was venomous.

Barry -

I love reading reading your articles ! They have good content and great journalism, but they lack in sports knowledge. So, if you are going to play in this arena you need to know that you are writing about content that is way too old, long gone. Sure, Doc says these statements, but .. Is it not true ? Have the Lakers starting five beat the Celtics starting five ? Um, no they haven't .. The one point to take away from this last series is that; clearly, David Stern did not want the Celtics to win, at all. In every game, the Celtics received the worst of every call from the officials and after Game 2 you saw the magnitude of hopelessness that WE Celtics Fans felt. In case you do not remember, we won Game 2 .. Do you remember the foul differential ? 42-13 and we still won with Ray Allen hitting 8 3-pointers and taking a knee to the thigh from your CHEAP SHOT player Ron Artest; You cannot cheap shot someone in boxing ! Good Luck with that Ron ;-)

Then, your number two cheap shot in the game Kobe Bryant .. He not only put his body under Kendrick (look at the replay before you speak) and changed his landing position (completely illegal, but he is Kobe !); he also, in Game 7, threw a punch at Rondo. I know you are all LA Fans, but do not be HOMERS and tell me that you did not see those plays. Your team may have won and that is great but, do not tell me that you think they were the better team. Gasol yelled and screamed before, during, and after every basket attempt (even the ones he did not attempt). Again, watch the replay (in the fourth) and tell me that the AND 1 call that Gasol made on Rasheed was legit. If you can HONESTLY say that the call was fair I will be a Lakers Fan for the REST OF MY LIFE.

You guys one based on luck

hey

Sure, Doc says these statements, but .. Is it not true ? Have the Lakers starting five beat the Celtics starting five ?

YES! Lakers have. Rasheed Wallace is the true starting five of the Celtics, he is the one that finishes games even when Perkins was not injured. Wallace is also a better player and contributed much than Perkins in the Finals.

The ture question is the celtics has NOT beaten a healthy Lakers starting five?

over/under 45 wins for the C's next year: I would push but I don't think they will even get to 45. Any time someone is using the "they are used to being old" argument for them beating the Lakers...they are too old!
Cya round playoff time Purple and Gold brothers and sisters...I'M READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO RAMS!

I don't really understand why Doc Rivers has to make an excuse. You lost the last two games in the Finals which means that you blew two chances to win the title. Let us also not forget that Rasheed Wallace who took over Perkins' spot in the lineup played very well in Game 7. You had a 13 point lead in the 3rd period and had every chance to close it out as early as the 3rd period but the lead was almost gone at the end of the third and by the last 6 minutes LA was already on the driver seat.

Bottomline:

Game 6 - Boston got blown out of Staples.

Game 7 - Boston blew an opportunity to close out LA in the 3rd but gave up the lead in the 4th.

Perkins or no Perkins it would have not made any difference. Boston never played the way they were expected to play just like in their Game 5 win in Boston. Stop making excuses Doc and move on.

Hey guys, there's a live chat here populated by Lakers fans and (more importantly) moderated by people who are interested in things like a) being respectful to it's participants (Barry? Huh?), the Lakers b) the NBA c) being passionate about chatting -- all things that are absent here.

Jon,

Unfortunately, some of the comments were even worse. I chose my adjectives carefully.

It is good to be home.

--FEARless

I'm not surprised by DRivers he is as classless as Paul Pierce with his stupid promise that the celts weren't coming back to LA.How about last year when KG said after he comes back from his injury that the celts would repeat I guess PP and KG didn't send out memos because the rest of the team didn't back their promises up.Doc Rivers also must have alzheimers because he doesn't seem to refer to the fact that his team choked away 2 chances to put the lakers away in gamess 6 and 7.How do you lose the rebound catagory by the count of 23-8 and expect to win.Doc and PP and KG need to practice the old adage put up or shut up.The lakers don't have to talk crap because they're secure where they are in the annuals of the game right now.The fact is the Thunder and the Suns showed more class then the Celts did and they don't have any rings.

Jon K.,

Sign me up for your blog. :) 20 great questions.

DennisJ = Moron

DennisJ = Liar

Jon K.: all good questions for actual paid reporting folks to answer!

In the Finals, Phil Jackson as a coach has lost to Larry Brown, a worthy opposing coach; and to Tom Thibodeau in the 2008 Finals. Take that Douche Rivers. The only thing you are good at is maybe motivating your team; but as a coach, you suck! Come this upcoming season you will be exposed. I remember when Douche Rivers used to broadcast games on ABC. Oh My GOD, his commentating was so so so boring.

I believe that Rivers as a coach to the Celtics has the record for the longest losing streak. Oh and he had Perkins on that team.

I am happy that Ron Ron did his tweet. Doc's comments were way off base. We need players like Ron Ron who will speak out. Go Thriller!

Hey doc, heat's got 18 players as of latest report, how many more aging and "has been'" players will you get in order to have a chance to beat the lakers.

@Dennis J

What about 08 when Bynum didn't play and the celtics won? You conveniently left that out. Did you hear Phil Jackson making up BS reasons why they lost? No! Yes, there were questionable calls made by the refs but it benefited BOTH teams. They ALL weren't in favor of the Lakers. Basically, Phil can make the same argument about the celtics never beating their starting 5. Face it, the celtics WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO BEAT THE LAKERS! (Bynum pulled through with a bad knee and Kobe with a broken finger.) The Lakers were a better team period
