Poll: Assuming the Lakers make it to the 2011 NBA Finals, which team would you like them to face?

Looking ahead to next June, we're all assuming the Lakers will advance out of the Western Conference, ready to take the final step toward another three-peat as NBA champions. Right?

The question is, who would you like to face the Lakers out of the East? Of course, two potential opponents leap to mind: the hated Boston Celtics (Kobe versus Shaq with everything on the line, the Lakers looking to tie Boston for most overall championships) and the hotshot Miami Heat (the two-time defending champs versus the so-called Big Three, the prospect of preventing King James from winning his first NBA title).

Vote, then leave a comment letting us know why you voted the way you did.

Bring on the three stooges from Miami

The MEat are not going to make to the finals...

Its a no - brainer.

Give Phil his fourth three-peat, Kobe his sixth ring , and tie the Celtics for most all time NBA Championships ever? Why would anyone want to do that against anyone except the Celts themselves AND Shaquille O'Traitor at the same time?

PLUS:
We beat the Celtics, Kobe has the same number of rings as Jordan. The Celtics beat us, Shaq has the same number of rings as Kobe.
Is there ANY scenario ANYone could have possibly designed to motivate the Mamba more? What a thrilling finish to the season THAT would be!

Other: NJ Nets

I want a piece of Farmar

Magic Phil - Loved your version of Shraq.....

Boston, only because Shaq signed with them, and Shaq might not be playing too many more seasons. I want Shaq to regret the day he EVER dissed the Lakes. And I hope the very last play, at the very last second, for the series winner, is Kobe (or better yet, Drew) dunking had on Shaq's head. The way Rasheed Wallace fouled Kobe to foul out of his last game last season, I want something like that to happen to Shaq. OR, I'd like to see Shaq brick a free throw to lose his team the game.

We'll take care of LeBron, and 'em the following season.

Most definitely the Green Weenies. For all the above reasons, but also, this would give Kobe the advantage of 2-1 over the Most Hated.

Oh yeah, and a 2 Ring advantage over the Big Bench Warmer.

In all honesty, I hope that LeQuitter NEVER sees another Finals for the rest of his career. So sorry Heat, as long as you have the LeEch attached to your ball sac-, er I mean club, I guess this means I don't EVER want to see you guys make it out of the East.

I think we could go not only for the 3-peat but also a Finals 4 and maybe even a V-peat... LAKERS BABY!!!!

Shannon may not get as much PT with barnes in the mix but count me in as one of those looking very forward to seeing shannon play alongside blake who should definitely improve his game unlike smush farmar who makes his teammates worse

And with shraqs signing with the celts looks like signing caracter just became a much higher priority.

So just sign the 2 rookies and the squad is almost set.. Well almost... we still got that big white elephant by the name of walton.. Only if he would retire and that road to 3PEAT just becomes a whole lot easier..

Another concern.. Assuming we sign both rookies and everyone is healthy nba squad can only carry 12 with one injured reserve.. So does that mean 2 guys are on the practice squad travelling but can't dress? Anyone?

It has to be the Celtics given Buss' fixation with equaling or surpassing the Celtics in champoinships

Boston, because it's a real team. And beating Shaq would be something...

THIRTIES SOMETHING CLUB..hahahaha

O'Neal, 38, joins Pierce, 32, Garnett, 34, and Allen, 35. The Celtics also signed free agent center Jermaine O'Neal, 31 -

No brainer...We want the rubber match against the Chowders...the best rivalry in sports...

And I hope Perkins is healthy the whole series, along with both their O'Neals and Old 3, and that little squirt, Rondo...we want NO EXCUSES!!!

Miami...meh...no rivalry there...That franchise has to win over 2 rings for them to be even considered as a rival...

it's about time the lakers do something about luke walton's contract, he's a nice guy, but didn't contribute much during the last two season due to various reasons, the team needs a deeper bench for the three peat.

Now we want to beat them with Shak, simple as that!!

No question the celtics!

It would be another epic battle. The heat would be a rollover, boring.

Bring on Bawston, the only real rivalry that matters. We can get the Heat the next three years. We want to tie the Shaqtic's and the next year we own them and no more Greenie weenie trolls.

Bring on any of those teams!!! The Celtics, Heat, Magic or Bulls, it don't matter. All I want is for our Lakers and whatever team comes out of the East to be healthy and at full force so that there can be NO EXCUSES at all!!! It sickens me how Craig Sager, CWebb on NBAtv on Tuesday and several others have tried to cheapen the Lakers title because Perkins got injured. Bynum was injured throughout and he maybe had just a little more impact than Perkins did. I'm tired of all the excuses and what ifs. I just want to see the two best teams in the league in the finals at full strength, going full tilt, mano a mano with the best team winning.

Bring it on!!!

Boston? Been there done that...

Much better to be able to beat the SuperHeat.

I sincerely doubt the Celts would even make it back to the Final. The three old dudes will get older and creakier. They were lucky the past year to avoid major injuries but may not be able to do it again.

And Shaq will not be as good as Perkins as far as defense and rebounding is concerned.

Yellowfever - I think your squad number answer is in here....

67. What roster size limits exist? What is the Inactive List? What is Injured Reserve?

A team must have 12 players on its active roster, although they can drop to 11 for up to two weeks at a time. They must suit up at least eight players for every game. Any remaining players must be on its Inactive List, and are ineligible to play in games. A team must have a minimum of one and a maximum of three players on its Inactive List, although they can drop to zero for up to two weeks at a time, and can temporarily have four with league approval in the event of a hardship. The composition of the Inactive List can change on a game-by-game basis -- no less than 60 minutes prior to tipoff, the team must present to the official scorer a list of the players who will be active for that game. A player can be inactive for as little as one game. While individual teams are only required to carry 13 players (12 active and one inactive), the NBA also guarantees a league-wide average of at least 14 players per team. The league is surcharged if they do not meet this obligation.

Don't sleep on the Magic! I don't like LeLoser or Big Old Baby to sniff the Finals ever. I'll take the Magic, thank you.

I don't particularly "want" anyone.

I'll take whoever we get.

Cuz it really doesn't matter - they'll be a speed bump on the way to Figeroa.... parade # 17 baby! Here we come. The title is sweet no matter who's azz you have to whip to get there.

I'd rather play Milwaukee, but the Celtics will do.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Can we take both of them one after another? After we anihilate both, Stern will have no choice but to announce the Lakers World Champs for BOTH 2011 AND 2012, since he pretty much will weasel those two in the Finals one way or another. And oh yes, Lakers will have the 2011-2012 year off with pay. The NBA will just have to play for the ECF trophy and banner.

Doesn't matter - whoever it is, we roll like a big wheel.

(But if it did matter, which it doesn't, Celtics - until the East Coast falls into the sea after the big one, people start liking Mickey Mouse cartoons over Bugs Bunny cartoons, and somehow soccer becomes the national pastime here in the U.S. - Celtics... but it doesn't matter.)

Nemaia Faletogo I heard that too and they seemed to forget that Andrew was far from 100% and hardly played game 7, and Kobe with all his injuries...especially coming from Craig Sager........Doubt if he ever played the game and yet he's an authority. They just love to bash the Lakers!

It seems as though the NBA will have multiple storylines to follow this upcoming season; many of which involve our beloved Laker squad. A Finals rematch for "all the marbles" against Boston? Yes! Defeating the Celtics again, sending Snaq into retirement, and tying the Celtics with #17 would be grand. What about Miami? They won't get past a wiser Orlando team, nor will they get past a young and strong Chicago team, let alone Boston. This new reloaded version of our squad will be "marked men" all season long. And that's just how Kobe likes it.

DBDH!

Picked the Celts, because there can never be too many Lakers-Celtics finals.

Also, because I don't want the Heat to ever sniff an NBA finals. Their little "family reunion" is too contrived for my tastes - not to mention the disdain for Lebron, cemented to his legacy by his participation in "THE DECISION".

Interesting topic, the way I see it, I'd love to play the Heat for the simple sake of Kobe haters being put to rest, evryone wants to say LBJ or Wade is better than the Mamba, which is hogwash, Lakers beat both, that story is dead. I'd love to beat the C's and see Kobe get a ring vs Shaq, then let B Shaw walk out there and tell him that's the real Shaw Shaq redemption! Very tough to decide, but in a perfect world, we beat the Heat this year, and beat the Celtics the following year to break the tie against them, but they're too old to get there a year from now. So, needless to say, I'm beyond torn lol, as long as it results in a Laker victory parade and another edition of"I want to thank my phsyciatrist", that's all I really want anyway!

HalosAnt,

Thanks Fatty for the confirmation

So assuming everyones healthy at the same time (unlikely scenario) then luke will be riding that permanent inactive list all year long.. That also means one other guy aint suiting up which wil probably be 1 of 2 rookies.

Magicphil,
U got some mad skillz.. With great power comes great responsibility. Use it wisely

raiderlaker1980,

I disagree.

It would be better for Kobe to beat the Celtics with Shaq as it would officially put to rest "Who was to blame? Kobe or Shaq?" thing forever.

LeJerk should just flounder forver on teams that make the playoffs as the sixth seed and get washed out in the first round. It's the only way to dismantle the ESPN hype-generation machine that is ruining sports.

Thanks for responding to my post NMLL. Craig Sager's input on game 7 of the finals are just like his suits, ugly and outlandish. He just needs to stick to reporting and doing interviews because his analysis sucks. What made it even worse is how he sounded like he was absolutely sure the Celtics would've won had Perkins played game 7, as if he(Sager)was a prophet or something. Next time he interviews PJ or a Laker, they should slap him upside his head for his comments or just for having those hideous suits on.

i don't care. whomever the Lakers play, they have to beat.

Congrats Shannon...in the words of E.Snow and Smitty from NBA TV - Spartan Dawg in the House! Now go get that 3peat baby.

I'd kill for a live chat right about now....

That or some ice cream.

It used to be a Hack-a-Shaq
And now it's Shaq's a Hack
We shake our heads shamefully
As you drape the Green on your back

You won 3 Rings with us
and hoped for your number in the rafters
But this move guarantees
that you get nothing but boos and laughter.

You once commanded 27 million to start
and now beg for just 1.3
Too blind to see how sad and pathetic that is
or maybe that's just me.

Your career is dying, Shaq,
And it's leaving a stench
You might wanna think about that
as you sit on the bench.

Don't want Shaq, PP and the gang to sniff the finals.

Definitely don't want DWade and his two robins.

Bring on Orlando!

The Celtics are our most hated rival. I would be quite happy to see them get bounced out and humiliated in the first or second round. I don't want to see them in the Finals. Should injuries occur to key Lakers (it happens) I would hate to see the Celts get another one so I don't even want them to get close.

As for the Heat, they rank right down there close to the Celtics now. I would also love to them get bounced out in a first or second round exit. How humbling would that be for them.

So I would rather see the Magic or the Bulls, or anyone except the Meat or Celtics.

No way am I going to root for the Celtics to win. Nor the Meat.

That being said, if I had to pick the Meat or Celtics, I would rather beat the Meat.

Green Geezers fo sho and as a bonus we get to see LeAhole go down before the finals and the Shaq in the finals. All hail the new King Kobe!

That being said, if I had to pick the Meat or Celtics, I would rather beat the Meat.

LMFAO!!!

Hey Art - Don't forget the lotion and tissues...

Late to post on Shannon but have anticipated since the other day. We were all taken for the ride of that 4M offer reported by Fanhouse and analyzed fully by hoops rumor, well that is the very reason why we should not rely on rumor, innuendo and hearsay. Real Facts are still the best source of news.

SB, you're not ready for mega bucks because you didn't show enough what you are capable of doing. Defense and guts should be your defining moment this season. You did the right thing of waiting for your opportunity with the Lakers, now please SHOW US WHAT YOU 'VE GOT. Farmar made a better contract than you but in the long run if you do your homework, you'll inherit the fruits of patience and understanding. Go forward young man, don't be statistically static on the bench.

Who do we prefer to face in the Finals? Who cares? It is just too presumptuous to disrespect other teams in the West. Humility of the Champion should be our guide to greatness. Sign Caracter and Ebanks , then it's vacation time.

Let Platonic and Aristotelian philosophers continue their debates for the rest of the summer.

Art? Beat the Meat?

You really didn't mean that the way it sounded, I'm sure....

So shraq just went from an annual salary of almost 30 MIL to 1.3MIL in just a few years.. Talk about the BIG WRECK... How the heck is he gonna support that lavish lifestyle with that? Pay that big mortgage and alimony and child support??

The sad part is he's got NOBODY else to blame.. He did all this to HIMSELF.. if only he learned a little respect humility and a soe work ethic he wouldn't have become the BIG EMBARRASSMENT.

Let this be a valuable lesson to all the lazy fatass spoiled diva athletes of the world

WHAT are you smokin Jack ?
Odom, Barnes, Brown, Blake, Sasha, Ratcliff, Ebanks and Character is not a deep enough bench? Heck four of those players could start on lots other teams. Odom and Barnes were starters before the Lakers. Our two rookies ranked #5 and #15 among all summer league rookies. Geeze, let them play before you say there not good enough.

Tom Daniels. One of the voice of reason in the blog and doesn't let emotions dictate him.

I could honestly care less who we meet in the Finals. I just want to WIN! If the question was changed to "Who would you like to see the Lakers BEAT in the Finals for the 3peat?"--then my answer most definitely will have to be the Heat. I started following the Lakers and watching/listening to every game back in 96 (Nick Van Exel fan) so I was never fully exposed to the Showtime era and the LA-Boston rivalry. I hate Paul Pierce and KG with a passion, but add up all of my dislike for the green and it will not even come close to my hate for LeBron. Beating Boston with Shaq in the mix would be sweet, but I'd much rather see the Lakers beat the Heat and keep the LeBron ringless.

The new Flickr photo page. Bigger. Fatter. Greener, More Flickr-er.

My vote is to meet the Celtics. Not that we are afraid of the Superfriends. It is the same sentiments that have been echoed already by my fellow fans. Why?

1) I want to tie Boston in number of titles by beating Boston.
2) How much satisfaction can there be if Kobe got his sixth, deny Shaq his 5th, and at the same time ask him directly after beating his team, how does my ass taste? Can't get any better than that. That's a lot of satisfaction, to stick it to the Big Ogre, Shraq.
3) But mostly, I just love to beat the Celtics. In the regular season or in the playoffs, it's great! However, there is such as great feeling of joy and satisfaction when the Celtics get pulverized by us in the Finals. I can't tell you how happy it was this summer and can't wait for the same good old feeling again next summer.

Rubber match for the new millennium.

we had 84' 85' and then 87'

now 08' 10' and 11'

we have but one true rival in the nba that we respect anyway.

Jon,

Wow, what a good way to put it, very accurate!

Funny how the finals mean little without the Lakers and Celtics . . .would've been nice to have beaten the Bulls in '91, though.

Celtics, by a hair. I am a purist at heart, and last season defeating the Celtics in seven games was so gratifing to me as a Laker fan. But, that being said...it would be magnificent to see Kobe defeat the "Super-Team", and claim number six. The Shaquille signing definetly gives Boston the edge, yet again though.

10 years from now, when the presently 8 year old Boston kid becomes very sports aware he's going to see Shaq's number hanging from the Staples and say "When I saw him play for us he was just a pine boy."

The Lakers really don't need to retire his number. Let Miami have the honors. They're so desperate over there for sports heroes they retired MJ's.

Here's to 17. MVP trophy to be renamed Kobe at Russell's request. Shaq playing out garbage time to close the series.

Nothing beats the pleasure of experiencing another finals in which the Lakers defeat the Celtics ...oh wait, maybe it is more fun watching the Lakers beating the Celtics with SHAQ ....

Lefty: "If the question was changed to 'Who would you like to see the Lakers BEAT in the Finals for the 3peat?'"

I was almost in agreement with you Lefty, then I realized, whoever they face, the Lakers will beat them! So, six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Pistons.

Its a no - brainer.

Give Phil his fourth three-peat, Kobe his sixth ring , and tie the Celtics for most all time NBA Championships ever? Why would anyone want to do that against anyone except the Celts themselves AND Shaquille O'Traitor at the same time?

Posted by: Jay Jay | August 05, 2010 at 01:41 PM
====

Exactly. Plus, this would be the rubber match like in the 80's. This is Ali-Frazier, baby! Smokin' Joe won the first one, but Ali dominated the second one and then won the Thrilla in Manila in war. The Lakers are like Muhammad Ali, the greatest NBA franchise of ALL-TIME!!

Go Lakers! #17 coming up STRONG!!

THIS JUST IN:

It's being reported that Shaq has decided that his jersey number will be 666, and this reporter is not suprised to say the le...

{frantic whispering}

Oh I'm sorry, he's going to wear the number 36. I thought it said three sixes... my bad.

In other news...

The question is intriguing, but a no brainer for sure! it's always the celtics baby! Love to hate them, Love to beat them even more! We want and should be the franchise with the most chips, and getting them at their expense is the ultimate high! Beating the now, east coast media loving Heat with them rooting for Lebron to bury Kobe as basketball royalty, would be sweet too!! But we laker fans have history and beef with Boston teams and fans, don't give a rip about previous Heat teams(with the Shaq team being an exception) or their fans.

Ice Cream...someone said Ice Cream!!

Oh, and it doesn't matter who the Lakers play. All will fall before the Purple and Gold

JR

First of all. Kobe's a rapist.
Second of all. Ya'll BARELY beat the celtics WITH our starting center injured ya dumb shits.
Lastly, yeah, Shaq signed did not BEG for the money, he's actually smart and went for a team that will ACTUALLY WIN.
So...shut your pie holes dumb Lakers fans.
GO CELTICS.

i wonder how it actually must have felt for all the others, especially the ones who love the light, on that 08 Olympic team when Kobe was treated like a super-celebrity? & that was after losing miserably in an elimination game in the Finals.
what would it be like if the Olympics were every two years instead & so was going on now, after winning two straight chippies?
he probably would have to travel in the pope mobile.
the weight by the # of people that have gathered would cause the host city to cave in.
more fans there than at a free concert featuring The Beatles, Elvis & Michael Jackson.
for his own personal security, the entire national army would be called in & assigned.
there would be so many people, that if an alien race wanted to destroy all humans & had only one shot? host city would be the target.

Jolly Rancher - that was me. I wanna get chocolate wasted.

Let the troll scourging begin.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

GO LAKERS!!!

Don't feed the trolls.
It's still hurting...

Game 6 2 seconds left in the NBA Finals against Boston and Boston is down by 1 Lakers lead the series 3-2. Shaq is fouled and sent to the line for 2 free throws. He wipes the sweat dripping off of his Big Green forehead and CLINK he misses. Takes a couple of steps back looking stupid in the face as the Laker crowd gives him fits. Steps up to the line again realizes that he just pooped on himself. He wipes the sweat from his forehead again, his eyes crossed he shoots again to tie the game. CLONK rebound Lamar he throws the ball in the air as the Lakers have just 3peated. As the Smeltics walk off the court Kobe and Jerry Buss offers Shaq some bubbly and they same to him at the same time "Hey Shaq tell me how my a$$ taste"? lmao

Big C - good scenario, except if it were Game 6, 2 seconds left, the only way Shaq would be in is if the Lakers were ahead by 20 or more points, and... oh, yeah... we would be!

Wow, Tell us how you really feel Kobes a R----t! Ihave a wonderful idea...Go to your own damn blog!! WE Eat trolls and spit them out!!!!!!!

Kobe's A R,

We beat your team in the Finals, lead by Kobe Bean Bryant.

And we'll beat them again if they are able to slime their way back to the Finals.

Guess what? We're not scared of your team in the slightest. We are instead actually hungering to torture you and your fellow slime-suckers some more.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

TO ALL THE CELTIC LOSERS THAT COME ON A LAKER BLOG...

STOP BEING A TYPICAL CELTIC WITH ALL THE COMPLAINING. IF YOU HAD PERKINS YOU WOULD HAVE WON??????? WHAT IF BYNUM WAS HEALTHY THE WHOLE SERIES? DO YOU THINK THE CELTICS WOULD HAVE EVEN MADE IT TO GAME 7? NO. CELTIC FANS FAIL TO REALIZE THAT JUST BECAUSE BYNUM MANNED UP AND PLAYED,IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT HE WASN'T INJURED. CELTICS ARE DONE. GO JOIN PAUL PIERCE IN A WHEELCHAIR.

Second of all. Ya'll BARELY beat the celtics WITH our starting center injured ya dumb s#@ts.

**************************************************************

Did ya hear that Paula? Did ya hear that KG?? Did ya hear that Ray Ray???

You have been vindicated. Isn't that Great?

You can stop kicking yourselves in the @zzes for blowing that 13 point lead you had in the fourth and allowing a non-scoring Kobe to get all up in your @zzes for those 15 rebounds (oh I guess that make him a rapist... lol) and for giving up on defense and allowing Thrilla and Fish to drop those bombs and for fouling the Macheen and watching him as cold as ice (taking a page from the Black Mamba) swish those last two free throws that effectively won the Game.

It looks as though you can put the SOLE blame of losing the 2010 Finals squarley on the shoulders of Mr. Perkins. Because the fact that OUR center was injured and pretty ineffective much of the WHOLE SERIES doesn't count.

So go on you little bitter troll, keep whatever excuses you need to help you through the pain of getting STOMPED ON BY THE LAKERS BABY!!!!

And do us all a favor and continue to pin all your hopes on the decrepit shell of a REJECT that was once a Laker... Good luck with that.

Interesting topic, the way I see it, I'd love to play the Heat for the simple sake of Kobe haters being put to rest, evryone wants to say LBJ or Wade is better than the Mamba, which is hogwash, Lakers beat both, that story is dead.

I like your thinking.

The season has been described as a marathon survival of the fittest on the strong survive ordeal. IF they make it to the finals, I say bring on the Wiz!!! lol
But seriously, ya gotta know Kobe is startin to gear up right now to face the Heat...even tho they WILL be without one of the big 3 by then. Personally I think it will be Bosh who plays himself to the second team or even another team by then but, at any rate, one of the three will not be on the court when the ball goes up for the Finals.
You heard it here first...

THIRTIES SOMETHING CLUB..hahahaha

Actually I think the Lakers currently have the oldest team in the league. Even older than Boston. But it should come down once the two rooks are signed.

I'd rather play Milwaukee, but the Celtics will do.

Posted by: Jon K. | August 05, 2010 at 02:41 PM

Ah yes...a little payback for snapping the 33 game winning streak. On second thought we still should be thanking them for sending us Kareem.

I don't want the Lakers to face the Heat, but rather, the Heat to be eliminated in the first or second round of playoffs by the team that the Lakers will eventually face for the Finals.

That way, the Heat will see that they are really not as good as they thought they would be and as people thought they would be.

Let’s concern ourselves with getting BACK to the finals first. Yao will be re-joining the Rockets, a healthier Oden will be with the Blazers, Splitter will be teaming with Duncan on the Spurs . . . and you better believe Westbrook and Durant won’t have lost a step. Winning the West will be no cakewalk.

I voted other because I want the Lakers to play the Bulls in the NBA Finals so that Phil Jackson beats the team he beat the Lakers with and so his story comes full circle. He beat the Lakers with the Bulls and now it's time to beat the Bulls with the LAkers. Wouldn't that be perfect?

My Fudge is in Celtics

Switching the topic....did anyone read where Stevie Franchise said he was better than Kevin Durant.

http://www.dailythunder.com/2010/08/where-is-the-love-steve-francis/

Fatty, getting a piece of Farmar is tempting - or at least hilarious.

Always more fun to beat the Celtics than anyone else. LeBron bores the hell out of me. Let him win an MVP for getting 5.6 assists per game and then go down in the second round.

Game 7, two free throws to tie. Clank, clank. Shaq walks off in disgrace.

"I usually make the ones I have to."

My one and only hope...

Shaq's Laker jersey will eventually hang in the rafters at Staples center because Dr. Buss has something that Shaq seems to have lacking - "CLASS".

Shaq's Laker Jersey will eventually be hung in the rafters at Staples Center because Dr. Buss has something that Shaq seems to be in need of - "CLASS".

Winning the 17th by beating the eternally much hated Celts and the BIGGEST AZZ KISSER (whatever team he is with, his teammates and the coach are always the best ever; now you know where those BIG lips were) is the sweetest championship. Actually I think he (aka The Big Bridge Burner) wanted to come back to the Heat but since he burned that bridge, he had to settle for the NBA AARP club.
