Lakers comment on Facebook leads to a brawl during kindergarten graduation

Just to show you the power of the Internet, I give you, the faithful readers of the Lakers blog, the following story:

According to the Victorville Daily Press, prosecutors have filed misdemeanor charges against two women whose argument reportedly sparked a brawl during a kindergarten graduation ceremony in June.

Queiona Burt, 31, and Marina Ruth Vargas, 29, were charged with interference with peaceful conduct on campus and unlawful acts committed at school grounds, according to court records. It appears the two women got into an argument over a comment one of them made on Facebook regarding the Lakers. You can read more details at the link above.

Now, I know some of you Lakers blog readers are hardcore fans, but a fight at a kindergarten graduation? Can any of you imagine starting a fight at a kindergarten graduation over a comment over the Lakers? If it were a first grade graduation, sure, but kindergarten?

What's  the maddest you've ever gotten over a comment someone made about the Lakers, and did you serve any jail time? Let us all know, so I know who to avoid if I ever see you at a game.

JUSTA STRIKES AGAIN!!!!!!!

This is TYPICAL of the current crop of spineless front-running bandwagon Laker "pseudo-fans" that have been DISGRACING REAL Lakers fans, those of us that have been watching the games longer than Jerry Buss has been the owner, those that support the team during LEAN times, not just holler and cheer when we win championships.

The arrogance and disloyalty of the current crop is disgusting. Former Laker greats are being trashed, which will happen to our CURRENT franchise player AS SOON as we lose a Finals.

I hope these "Laker Nation" idiots get arrested and locked up for long time. Fighting over our team in a KINDERGARTEN?!! This is something we expect in Sacramento, Philly or Boston, NOT in Southern California. What a disgrace!

Ummm... I guess it depends what the Facebook post actually said.

GO LAKERS!!!

So what was the comment?

I've been known to disappear from this Blog for weeks at a time due to comments from 131-92, Red's Love Child and the Boston gang. Not healthy at all.

And then there are the anti-Game Day Prayer posts. Those have driven me to the point of leaving the Blog for good like Mamba 24. I'm the first to admit it...my skin is too thin in regards to Lakers. The stress is a mother!

I want someone to tell me what the comment was that started the fight, not to just link the darn story.

Hmmm. The maddest I've ever been was when the LA Rams' Ron Brown fumbled two consecutive kickoffs on Monday night Football against the 49ers. That made me mad.

Wes

I wanna know what was posted.

just shows you this Laker thing is real...religious almost.

Rocky - I was wondering if the previous thread was going to turn into another Seinfeld thread. It was getting kind of long... lol! And then POOF!! A new thread appeared. I continue to use my powers for good. Be grateful, Laker Nation.

:)

utzworld,

Oh - I thought y'all wanted to know what MY comment was.

Nevermind.

TomDaBomb,

"just shows you this Laker thing is real...religious almost."

As a religious scholar (I DO have a degree in the Study of Religion), I can say that Lakeraholicism is something that I would define under the term "secular religion" because it involves many of the same passions and structures as "sacred religions" and there is even some crossover as people like myself and utzworld contextualize elements of sacred religion (prayer) into our Lakeraholicism.

I actually think its a good thing. It's important to have faith in live.

@ wes -

That's because the NINERS RULE, BABY!!!

Ok, well not so much lately, but THEY DID BACK THEN & THEY WILL AGAIN!!!

So who did you think was the better receiver: Flipper Anderson or Jerry Rice?

Hahahahaha, don't bother to answer that...

Was Ron Artest seen on the scene?

It's a fucking sport. Get a life.

Considering how much of the Laker fan base thinks Celebrating a Championship means rioting and burning + destroying other people's property, I'm not too surprised by this.

Justa- Keep using those powers. I was getting tired of scrolling.

Go Lakers!

obsessive sports fans are a waste,

Self-righteous shame-addicts like yourself are a waste, in my book, pal. Actually, people--like yourself--are the worst type of people and the main reason our society is in decline.

Jon K/Justa - allow me to explain.

All my life, people have been critical of everything I've done - from the clothes I wore to school, to the way I walk, to my pattern & tone of speech, to my gifts & talents as a writer, to my decision making, etc. Still happens to this day at work and at church. Yep. At church!

It's because I'm a non-conformist. I march to the beat of my own drum. I don't do what people tell me to do. I do what is right in my heart. The DANGER (and the sell out in me) that comes with that is you spend your time always searchng for people's approval. Not healthy.

This is the most cynical time I've ever seen or heard of. Everyone is a hater. Everybody hates on everything. For every good deed that earns a man praise, there's a laundry list of folks ready to cut him/her down to shreds. We can do like these crazy ladies did in this article and get into fights at friggin Kindergarten graduations(!!!). Or we can act like grown folks and simply brush our shoulders off (a hip-hop term, Jon K!).

I am learning to do the latter. Not an easy road, as I have 30 something years of thin skin to shed. But I'm learning. We all should be learning. Every season...every loss...every triumph...every failure...every championship brings a new set of trolls & haters. When we finally get dethroned as champs, they'll rub our faces in the mud and talk crap about Kobe, Andrew's knee, Pau's lack of agression in the paint, LO's marriage, etc. But, to paraphrase Busta Rhymes in the film "Higher Learning," they HATE us cause they AIN'T us. Let us accept it and move on.

Mayor of Kobe Town,

"Considering how much of the Laker fan base thinks Celebrating a Championship means rioting and burning + destroying other people's property"

Following my father's rule, roughly 20% of any given population of significant size(some groups--like Celtics fans--will be significantly higher; other groups--like Lakers fans--will be significantly lower) on average will be jerks, idiots, and predators (aka highly negative and/or destructive people).

It's just a fact of life.

Unfortunately, Laker Nation cannot escape this rule either.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

utzworld,

"This is the most cynical time I've ever seen or heard of. Everyone is a hater. Everybody hates on everything."

We have eclipsed into a reality where both thin skin and hatred are promoted, resulting in constant anger, resentment, and feelings of being disrespected. It's madness.

The only thing to do is to embrace passion, courage, strength, and positivity while standing up when you see people being abused unfairly.

Doing so will cause people to throw metaphorical stones at you, but screw 'em!

Should I be surprised that a spick and a nigger behaved like a spick and a nigger?

Don't blame,

Uh...thanks for the link, but it doesn't tell us a thing about what was posted.

Utz...feel free to post whatever you want , especially if there are others who appreciate what you do, and there are. I personally have an issue with religion that keeps me away form claiming any denomination, though I was babtised and I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was 17.

Maybe you can help me with this problem, UTZ, or anyone who's thought this over. I would love to find some sort of reconciliation of this dilemma.

My issue is this tacit disclaimer that Muslims and Christians have hovering about whenever the two meet. This disclaimer that I find so disturbing goes something like this, (and is the inevitable meeting point of the two ideologies):

"Dear Muslim/Christian,

It is important for you to know that even though you are a good person with a kind and responsible family, you unfortunately are worshiping in an egregiously improper fashion and the consequences will be damnation for you, your wife, your family, and infact your entire culture. Because of this, your life is entirely meaningless and a threat to the civilized world that loves God, and not the Devil."

How do we get past this? Is it even possible? I personally think a relationship with God is great so long as it stays private, but when it becomes public and we extend the arguments that arise from those confrontations, there's an extremely gloomy outcome.

Go Lakers!

utzworld,

I used to be very thin skinned. I am, actually, a pretty sensitive person in many ways and its a reason I have a strong spiritual life.

Being interned in Akron, Ohio was actually a very good thing. Being thrown into such a negative environment and having to emotionally survive in it helped me to appreciate the small things better in life and recognize that ultimately life is as much about "getting in touch with your feelings" as it is accepting that life isn't perfect, tragedy and unfairness are an essential component of life and that part ain't changing, and learning to deal with it.

So, if you feel you attacked for doing what you TRULY believe in, so what? That's life. Deal with it.

We should embrace criticism because it is an opportunity for us to utilize the strength which God gives each of us and, sometimes, it is an opportunity to recognize a defect in ourselves that needs changing to evolve towards where we want to be.

You're a blessing to this place. Don't let the bastards get you down.

Funny things I've heard today:

1. What will Shaq bring to the Celtics? Answer: 6 fouls

2. Woody Paige guaranteed that Carmelo will resign in Denver...Reality: Carmelo will not resign, and keeping his FA options open...ala Lebron...Woody Paige, the Nuggets homer, and Laker hater looks like a fool again...

3. Went to the old blog to say hi to the old posse...Some one posted after, "Lewstrs is our own Brett Farve...lol

4. The wifey was calling me after I got home and I was in the garage. She was hurrying trying not to be late from work...She kept calling me, and I kept ignoring her...Then she yelled..."Breaking news!!! Kobe is doing a press conference...Of course I dropped everything and rushed in the house...She looks at me all slyly, and said, sorry, I 'm running late and I need you to go into the safe...My wife is a sneaky one...LOL

I come to this blog to escape from all that BS, you know, the irrational religious and political hate, fear and paranoia, that is continually being promoted by the media to divide us as a nation, and as a world community.

A better question: Is it possible for a Christian to befriend a Muslim without the fact they're opposite religions - and the church led pressure of one trying to convert the other - getting in the way of their friendship?

No worries, just pointed out to LAT staff about the facebook incident that took place here on this blog...no harm no foul..

bizarre that same incident lead to a physical altercations.........creepy and scary!

Jon K - There is a great deal of pressure that comes from our Christian leadership to convert our friends of another faiths to Christianity. That's the gist of Wes's question. It's a distortion a the Bible. YES we should own up to our faith...but WE ourselves don't actually convert anyone. The living example of Christ in our lives is actually the thing that is supposed to compel others to choose Christ. But with all the hate, hypocrisy and drama that comes from those Christians who are high profile & in the public eye (Sarah Palin, Ted Haggard, Glenn Beck, the list goes on...and, truth be told, I'm on that list too!), it's no surprise to me when people reject the Gospel.

UTZ..I hope so, but when one side is always saying the other is a devil, it gets difficult. There's a church in the south that's burning the Koran this year on 9/11 because they "don't believe it's a holy book."

How about not burning it out of respect for those who do believe it's holy?

Are you really a lakerholic if you're admitting you jump ship when times are tough?

Good old "sports hate" is normally harmless. Fighting over sports teams has a long tradition. Mostly its over a few drinks in a bar; seldom in a Kindergarten class.

Where I live, pretty much everybody are Sacramento Kings fans and they generally HATE the Lakers out of envy and disappointment.

I have to listen to negative and false comments about the Lakers, and sometimes have come to the edge of anger. However, I keep my cool, and just say "that is not true." Fortunately, WINNING is a prescription for healing my petty "fan" wounds and silencing these haters for awhile.

I was in a bar in New Hampshire watching the 84-85 finals, game 4, when McHale's cheap shot occurred. I was surrounded by a couple hundred die hard drunk Celtic fans. They all went crazy thinking that this was a great play. This little shit across the table started getting in my face. I went over the table after him and a big pile on ensued. I wanted to break his face - which was pretty out of character for me. that was about as mad as I've ever been. I no longer watch Laker Celtics games, regular season or playoffs with Celtic fans any where nearby.

The real issue here isn't that we are talking about some random comment written on facebook, the real issue is that it's a non-story AND that we are talking about it.

It's a non story because eventhough people fought over it it doesn't mean it's worth it to report. Quick example, if two people know each other on twitter, or facebook and they know they said what they said that's fine express your opinion, fight do what you want to do to each other, as long as it's back and forth banter it constitutes the beginnings of a debate. In the context of the word, fight. What they did was, not speak about the matter but fight over it. It's what we do on the Lakers blog. It's not a right thing to do, it's not a good example for the children, especially since the circumstances didn't call for them, and I wish we could know what was said, but in a globalized world, where everything connects everyone, everything becomes a double edged sword because if stupidity becomes popular everyone thinks its the norm and they fight over random comments.

After being stationed in Victimville in the 80s, I can believe almost anything.
