MM,
Thanks for keeping interesting posts coming when nothing is really happening. I almost get fooled now and then that there is news here.

MM - thanks for the new post. Things were getting ugly on the last one. I'm new to this blog and joined because I've been a Laker fan for 30 years. I've read the blog off/on for awhile but more so recently since I started posting. Aren't we all Laker fans? Can't we disagree without being disagreeable? I realize there's a lot of history behind the various posts, and I love the passion, but it seems like there's too many personal attacks for something that should be a factually based, but opinionated discussion amongst friends.
On second thought, maybe this blog is more like family - hence the personal nature of the arguments lol.
Anyways, hope things settle and would love to keep reading and contributing to this space.

Personally I like the white jerseys but I think we do worse when wearing those. My friends and I are so superstitious that we actually change configurations on where we are sitting on the couches when the Lakers start playing bad.

63 Footer - your criticism is warranted, but I'm getting older and only stand now when I'm throwing things at the TV lol

@JOHNNYV… You can argue on this all day long (I won't be) but it seems to me that either overstating Bynums value or understating it ... the kid adds something that is undeniable. Tell me that the Lakers were better without Bynum and I will think you foolish.” Excellent observations, Johnny. Thanks for chiming in.

@H0BBITMAGE… There is no need to lower the discussion to the level of calling people with whom you disagree as “Bynum butt sniffers.” Let’s keep the comments respectful. We are all Lakers fans.

I'm pretty sure that pick nits has been a serious past time around here since game 7.
Not to mention that it has seemed like nap time around here for a couple of weeks. "Mamba24 got a bigger piece of cake than I did"..."Justanothermambafan jacked my nickname"..."Bynum is not a beast..is so...is not..."

MM, Maybe you could research why Jerry "The Logo" West doesn't have a statue in front of Staples Center.
For all he's done for the Lakers and the City of LA, both on the court and off, it seems like the ultimate disrespect.
To me, that would make a great and informative post. NOT BORING OR GRASPING AT STRAWS ON THIS ONE...

I think while Bynum is not yet and may never be a dominant center (Kwame once went of for 30 and 20 against the Kings didn't he?). The reality is he is one of the top 5 or 6 centers in the league. Why can't we all agree that the kid is currently a really good player but a role player with the Lakers (because of how stacked the Lakers are). I still think the Lakers would be better if they could put a package around Bynum for a package from the Bulls involving Noah however make no mistake if Bynum goes to another team where he gets more touches i am pretty sure he becomes an all-star player.

Regarding favorite Laker jerseys - I hate it when they wear the Minny blue ones. The Sunday whites are nice, but not my fav. The road ones are great but the best is the "golden armor". Yeah. Warriors defending what's theirs.
Speaking of doing crazy things to help the Lakers win - I also have to have my "special" t-shirt on, then move around the room depending on what's happening, stand up, sit down, change my pillow configuration on the couch, scream, sometimes make the cat watch with me, threaten my remote with physical violence... Hey - whatever it takes to secure the win!

Please take your anger or heated nature out on your Kwame/Smush bobbleheads.
And for once I will agree with LakerTom (and all other Bynum lovers) drum roll please..........the kid adds value. I don't agree with the value ($$) the Lakers have placed on him but it's their investment not mine.
I still reserve the right to comment on his play when I feel it necessary. AB17 is one member of a TEAM which is bringing the Larry O' and banners to LA and that's all I really care about!

That's funny.
One thing that used to tick me off when the Lakers were losing is that if I stopped watching the game, they would come back and win or make it very close.
For quite a few years, if the Lakers were losing big in the second half, it would be so painful to watch I would stop watching, only to turn the TV back on near the end of the game to find that the Lakers made a great comeback and I missed it.
It took me quite a while to stop doing that.

Max, it is pretty hard to come to any sort of agreement with people who think that Joakim Noah would be an upgrade over Andrew Bynum. You essentially advocating trading a legitimate center for a power forward (or, as you envision him, an undersized center).
Here's what is pretty amazing to those of us who actually believe in Andrew Bynum: the best basketball minds in the business actually agree with US, and yet there are so many here who continue to maintain that trading Andrew is the way to go. For the record, Jerry Buss and Mitch Kupchak could have easily traded Andrew for Chris Bosh (a much better player than Noah...) this year or this summer. They didn't.
So, I guess the question is this, why don't more of you support the position held by the greatest owner in all of team sports vis a vis Andrew Bynum?

"Whenever you are confronted with an opponent. Conquer him with love.”

A scrub free year would be most excellent. Having an effective 12 man rotation would mean that the team would feel like a bunch of 20 year olds come playoff time (well, 20 year olds that played 82 games anyway). At least this is a team that, as of the moment, we don't cringe when we think about non-starters coming into the game. Of course that could just be a side effect of Summer time cocktails.

The thing I don't like about Gandhi is that he allowed the practice of the caste system to continue. In my not so humble opinion, the designation of an "untouchable" caste is a crime against humanity.

Gandhi gave the untouchables the name harijan, or "children of God", and founded the weekly paper Harijan, which was published in English and Hindi. In an attempt to persuade the orthodox Hindus to wipe out the "blight of untouchability", Gandhi undertook fast in the summer of 1933 for three weeks.
He was also the one who promoted the following of the Lakers... even before the Lakers existed. A true visionary.

One last piece the Dr. Jerry Buss/Mitch K. might want to look into:
http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/sierra/2010/08/18/rudy-portland-on-collision-course/
Before Rudy goes back to Euro league, let's try to offer Sasha's last year's contract to the Blazers for Rudy Fernandez for one last try. This could be a wake-up call to the Blazers of what is reality. Rudy's value saves JB some luxury taxes this year, RF also adds arsenal among the perimeter shooters. I'm sure Rudy will be willing to join Champs & his paisano even if he plays in the second unit. What he lacks in defense, he compensates in offense. Eventually, Artest and Kobe will help him to become a defensive gem. Will the Blazers agree? Why not? If Rudy moves to Euro league, they only get small returns compared to acquiring Sasha as a perimeter shooter and also with his expiring contract.

MM, in honor od Caracter and Ebanks, a suggestion would be to analyse the draft over the last 5 years or so and see where the Lakers draftees are now and with whom.
We can also look at our roster and find the draft order, year, and team that drafted the current Laker players.

Edwin - It's time to stop talking trades and drafts and to start getting the most out of what we have now. Sasha is a defender and CAN be a shooter. Those knee and ankle injuries didn't do him any good last year. Let's see if there is any value left now that he has had a chance to heal. There is plenty of time to talk trades and expiring contracts, so for now let's see what we have.
JR
Posted by: Jolly Rancher | August 19, 2010 at 10:38 AM
Edwin, I'm with you. The problem is that Sasha's contract is way too big compared to Rudy's and a straight trade would not work. The lakers would have to throw in a first round pick, and a third team would have to be involved to make it work. It's worth a try. IMHO.
JR, is there a moratorium on trade suggestions on the blog now?
Posted by: Laker J | August 19, 2010 at 10:45 AM
JR,
Agree on your point, JUSTA heard F/O's intention of moving Sasha to save taxes. If it's not feasible at least it was tried. If Rudy F. joins the Lakers, you will enjoy this kid, pure shooter especially if left alone. Lakers will have a deeper line up with Rudy in the mix. Well, Sasha can deliver as well especially if he wanted for contract renewal, but Rudy is more realistic than just being a dream.
Isn't it strange that we have to add the word justa to everything? I thought only my grandchildren could play this game.

I used to think it was pretty cool how phred used "ph" instead of "f" for his name and thought about doing that too, but then, it just didn't seem quite so cool after that.
Posted by: Art - FL Laker Fan | August 19, 2010 at 10:55 AM
Laker J,
I remember when we got Gasol, we have to resurrect the McGie's contract just to fill the gaps, I'm sure Portland has some dormant contracts that can fill the gaps or perhaps offer some 2nd round draft picks in succeeding years. Those are ramifications that we're not expert butI'm sure they can work around it if they want to. What is illogical on Blazers part, it will reinforce the Lakers as a complete team because they know what Rudy F can do and help this team secure the 3-peat. What he did for Team Spain with great teammates around him could really give the Lakers the much needed boost. As I told JR, Sasha is a dream (equivalent to municipal bonds during hard times) while Rudy is a real shooter or a "blue chip" marksman who will generate dividends.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | August 19, 2010 at 10:56 AM

Yes, it is interesting how protective people get about the name they choose to use here.
What would be fun?
If all of a sudden everyone were required to change their name and they were not allowed to tell who they used to be.
But then, in many cases I suspect it would be easy to tell pretty quickly who used to be who.
Posted by: Art - FL Laker Fan | August 19, 2010 at 10:59 AM
Edwin - I think that trade suggestion has merit. Had the same thought yesterday when I heard Rudy might play in Europe.
MM - can you pull strings and get Gasol to talk to Mitch/Rudy about that? lol, would love to think we could have that kind of power. To be honest, I'm sure the possibility has already been explored but rejected by the Blazers

Why we didn't sign Caracter yet?
Posted by: JustaMagicPhil | August 19, 2010 at 11:03 AM
god; Noah undesized or not improves the Lakers defensively and in my opinion is a much better fit for the Lakers than Bynum. By the way i don't really agree than Bosh is better than Bynu cause if Bynum played for the Raptors i think he would be able to match or better Bosh numbers. Noah would also be a better compliment to all the post Kobe players we all hope for Kevin Durrant for eg. Noah might be undersized but the kid never backs down, plays great defense and rebounds well (basically all the things Bynum currently contributes to the Lakers but better). The drop of in points can easily be covered by Pau. I think Kobe, Artest, Pau, Blake and Noah would be a more balanced team (its not going to happen so i continue to happily root for drew). By the way i remember sitting through the draft while 'the best basketball minds' passed on Boozer thinking i can't beleive he is going so low. The 'fans' can get something right too.
I need to get this off my chest; why would the Lakers have traded fro Bosh when they already have a better PF who doesn't like playing center? Thats like having Kobe trading for AI and asking Kobe to play at PG.

Hi LakerFanInCowTown,
I've been to Staples many times for both Lakers games and Kings hockey games. The views are surprisingly good from the upper regions.
As for Staples vs Forum: to me it's like comparing a favorite song being played on an i-pod instead of a vinyl record. Sure the sound quality from the i-pod is great and chrystal clear, but there was something a little more real and in the moment about vinyl. Sometimes I miss the pops and crackles.
Posted by: LakerLass | August 19, 2010 at 11:09 AM
Edwin,
True, there are the obscure deals regarding trades that are not the focus of the trade, but make it work. The real stumbling block is Portland realizing that the Lakers will be a better team with Rudy.
Here's a scenario:
MINN. get Sasha from LA trade W. Ellington to Portland
LA. get Rudy from Portland send Sasha to Minn, and 1st rnd. pick to Portalnd
PORTLAND gets W. Ellington and LA's 1st rnd. pick
Given that Rambis is going to run the triangle Sasha can be a cntributor in Minn. on that system and has an expiring contract.

Good idea Laker J, yes Rambis would like to get Sasha. Still Blazers would spoil all these ideas because they would like to help the Lakers....as if they are contending here in the West for WCF.
In a way, I also see the point what JR is alluding. Triangle is not an easy thing to learn, it took sometime for Gasol, Artest and Shannon to learn it so there is a learning curve investment there especially if plays only few minutes. On the contrary if he goes back to Euro League, what a waste? He's the pure shooter who is very ideal in any kind of triangle. It is another "Horry" in the line up or maybe Rice. With Sasha, we got Pemberthy. haha!

No, no, no...there's no competition here. Justa and I are buds. We're part of the Real Laker Girls. It's all about family and Lakerlove.

~~~~~~LG - nope. Never in a sorority. That was my tribute to Elle Woods lol!
justa,
That's funny, she is one of my more favorite actresses. My wife teases me a lot whenever that movie is on (it runs a lot of times on cable), and I usually watch it, again.
But then I tell her that when she (my wife) was young she looked just like her (and she did), and that gets me off the hook.
justArt (better than phArt)- sounds like you know how to make your woman happy LOL!
I'm a Reese fan too. Legally Blonde was much better than the 2nd one imho. I also liked her in Sweet Home Alabama. I usually don't like a film that's toooo much of a chick flick, but I like hers!
Jack (the Lakers) Nicholson happens to be my favorite actor. My favorite movie of his is between "Five Easy Pieces" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
jusat,
justArt?
Sounds like a branch of psychology!
Anyway, I don't generally like chick flicks either, but those movies just connected with me somehow.
I especially liked Bruiser, that just cracked me up whenever I saw him.
Also, I just loved Walk The Line, both her and Joaquin were outstanding in that movie. I could watch it again, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I will.
max, well, I guess we can find one thing to agree on: Trading Bynum for Bosh would have been absurd. Where we depart is that I think trading Bynum for Noah would be even crazier. Noah is not a center. He might play one on tv, but he is way undersized, and "hustle" can make up for only so much.
In fact, your reference to Boozer is probably very appropriate. Carlos Boozer is another guy who puts up good numbers, but is simply too undersized to be an elite power forward (that's why he gets dominated when he plays the Lakers--he can't cope with the length).
I think it is much easier for the pros (the general managers and owners) to make mistakes in the draft--after all, Bynum only went 10th in a draft where we now see he was CLEARLY the third best player available. But now we are talking about an established player.
The Lakers could trade Andrew for any number of players, because virtually every team in the league (excluding Orlando) would consider Andrew a huge upgrade. But the Lakers stick with Drew. Why? Could it be that they see what some of us see, and what a lot of others don't? Like the fact that Andrew Bynum changes the game in ways that few players in the league do, and ways that a hustling Noah could only dream of.
If you think this hiatus is bad, wait till the lockout kicks in after July 2011. In the 98-99 lockout, the first game was not played until Feb 5th.
I would be interested in seeing your version of the Lakers 10 Commandments for 2010.
LOL. I usually hate chick flicks but I have to admit to watching both of the blonde movies. My favorite Reese Witherspoon movie, however, was Sweet Home Alabama. That is, until I saw her in Walk the Line, one of my all-time favorite movies. I thought that she and Jaoquin Phoenix were just terrific – acting AND singing. That movie elevated Reese’s career.
@HOBBITMAGE… “I'm sick and tired of his minions propagating BS as if it's sweet green from Nor-Cal. Can we wait for him to become an all-star before we watch the porn movie starring LakerTom & Andrew Bynum?”
I think everyone would appreciate your not making comments like this in the blog. Thought you were better than that but maybe I was mistaken. There was an excellent discussion going on before your comments.
