Bow Wow bets George Lopez that the Heat will beat the Lakers on Christmas Day

After this, rapper and Lakers fan Snoop Dogg may tell Bow Wow he's no longer worthy of bearing the name he gave him. Bow Wow recently appeared on "Lopez Tonight," betting comedian George Lopez $25,000 toward charity that the Miami Heat would beat the Lakers on Christmas Day.

"We just need a big man. The Lakers are the team to beat," Bow Wow said in the video below. "But we're going to get ya'll on Christmas Day, though."

Even if Bow Wow is simply following the Vegas betting lines that say the Heat will beat the Lakers for the NBA championship next season, this corner of the blogosphere obviously disagrees.

That leads to this question: How much would you be willing to bet that the Lakers will beat Miami on Christmas Day and/or in the NBA Finals?

2 different situations. They can even beat us in xmas day, but we'll get the ring in June. Which one do you prefer?

lakers are goliath, nobody roots for goliath. L.A. is lame and the main reason other country's hate the u.s.a.

also why wuld anyone read the L.A. times? lol like seriously? it ain't a respectable paper like the ny times or baltimore sun

**RE-POST**

Hello Everybody! *as Dr. Nick from the Simpsons*

So has the Bynum Brawlfest finally abated?

I wasn't sure if that was ever gonna end.

And as for Good 'Ol Tex, he MOST DEFENITELY needs to be inducted into the HOF! I can't believe this is even a question.

Tex is like the 3M of the Triangle System:

He didn't make it... He made it BETTER!

So Senor JustaMamba24 - Will you save me a spot on the Bandwagon please?

@ mike and nyrob,

Interesting that you feel that way, so why are you even bothering to be here at the LA Times Blog.

Go away, losers.

lakers often lose the christmas game......a seven game series in june however is a TOTALLY different story.....so the lakers will lose the former, but win the latter....

Interesting that you feel that way, so why are you even bothering to be here at the LA Times Blog.

Go away, losers.

LOL, that's true.

Who cares? It's a meaningless early season practice game that the Lakers never want to play anyway. I sold my tickets to last year's debacle and financed 3 playoff games with it.

WHO?

Guys, The comments will now require approval. Keep in mind that I'm spending time with my family so there is going to be a delay with this. But I want this to be under control.

MM

i would put my money on the heat, because the chances that the lakers get up for this game are slim and none. and it's the way it should be. we don't play for meaningless regular season games... we play for championships.

MM-

The language and stuff is really starting to get out of hand, particularly with the guy pretending to me you on the last thread. It really needs to be cleaned up. Iwould even be willing to tolerate a period of moderated posts again if it gets rid of that stuff. I bet most others on here would too.

Bow Wow can bark all he wants, but the Lakers will defend their title successfully.

Thank you MM. It's unfortunate that it had to come to this, but I don't want to read some of the stuff people have been saying. It's just too bad that fir the most part the regulars on here were not the ones causing problems, but they have to suffer for it.

Barring any injuries, e.g., both teams are healthy, I'd take that bet particularly when the Lakers are playing at home... different story if it were at Miami. I wish I have the money to make this bet though. I'm confident that the Lakers would win at home if everyone is healthy (like Bynum).

MM - I can't blame you if you had to take away the instant post...

Shame on the people that caused it to come to this...

Good deal MM,

@MVP88. I thought Sedalle was underrated too. Great dude who had a huge effect on the Lakers and not many Laker fans remember Sedalle.

I'd still go with Nick Van Exel as my underrated PG. He will probably never get his jersey retired as a Laker but had his attitude been better he was a mini Goodrich (mind you not as good as Stumpy). Clutch, scoring, and a decent playmaker who even got an All-Star trip.

Hello Hobbit;

No need to be polite & PC with me - I could've guessed whom you were talking about, but I think it was my polite & PC approach to suggest that you either mis-spoke or . . . . maybe . . . . . were hoping for a complete miracle x 2. I admire your love for your team.

Troy B - I've always wondered what would happen if Kobe played point guard and tried to concentrate on assists instead of points. I think that it would be fascinating to watch how his creativity in scoring would translate to the passing department. Unfortunately, I don't think the triangle offense allows for a single player to accumulate a whole lot of assists on a regular basis, because the pass before the shot comes from so many different places.

That being said, I agree that Kobe had a pivotal fascilitator role in Game 5 of OKC series, but I also believe that the reason it was so much fun to watch is that EVERYBODY was fascillitating everyone else. They didn't settle for a good shot, but often got a great shot by making an extra pass. I hope to see more of that this year.

Ive never posted despite reading this blog a lot. The overall writing in the LA times sports sections is deplorable. This latest laker blog posting about "bow wow" signifies what everyone has been thinking: WOW, the la times is basically worthless. Thanks for reaffirming my decision to never waste money on the la times.

Secondly,
why give bow wow the light of day? You are supposed to ignore crap like this instead of publishing it.

Good job.

Lakers are going to beat the Heat on Christmas...AND in the Finals. One of the Big 3 will be hurt, and the Miami fans will get all whiny. Well, the Lakers don't just have LaBron, Wade, and Bosh, they have...depth!

KB Blitz, agree on VanExel.
He was a great player to watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R9ne3ol6uY
And even more impressive:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POXL49YzEns&feature=related

I just want to see a game where everyone "plays hard". LOL.

Honestly, all I want for Xmas is for Laker fans to not start throwing things like last year. That was despicable.

And since there is a super slight, very small chance I will have tickets to the Xmas day game, I won't really care about betting anything. I will be reveling in the glory of Staples, staring up at the 16 gorgeous poly/silk Championship banners and hoping my favorite team comes home with a W.

Cheers!

PS - It should be a little important in the scheme of home court advantage though. Or we will have to hope for a season split.

Lakers will kick the Heat all over the floor. Laker 108 Miami 92. Lakers defense will be too much for the three blind mice. The one and ONLY BLACK MAMBA will make sure of that.

We consistently suck on Christmas. Bow wow made a good bet. I'm glad George Lopez feels charitable.

i agree, KB Blitz....nick the quick was a very underrated laker PG.....he was a very clutch player....after hitting a 20 footer to put the game away, i loved how he would shadowbox down the court with a snarl on his face.....too bad he couldn't stick around for the three-peat....

Blitz -

Loved Nick the Quick...I got his jersey...just wish he could of won a ring...

I loved it when Nick and Payton would go at it...One trying to better the other...I'm sure you remember those games with the Sonics...

I not only predict a win, but a BLOWOUT at that.

Mark my words...

The game will be somewhat close at Halftime with the Lakers having a 5-7 pt lead.

The 3rd Qtr will be a massacre (a combination of the Startes and Bench just decimating the Heat) with Lakers up with a 25 pt lead.

The 4th Qtr will be the Laker's bench maintaining the lead and a bunch of close up shots of the Big 3 sitting solemnly on the bench with "What the *&%$ just happened?" looks on thier collective faces.

Lakers 115, Heat 92.

And don't worry about the Finals... the Heat won't even be there.

LAKERS BABY!!!

When something you love dearly that has been part of your life for the last five years no longer is fun, then the time has come to move on. That any blogger would be allowed to slur someone with such rude and obscene comments without consequence is beyond any standard of good taste, fair play, and sportsmanship. As a result, I have decided to take a long and maybe permanent vacation from the blog. My thanks to KobeMVP, Art, and Blitz for having my back regarding the comments made but I have no desire for my wife, son, grandson, or friends to come to this blog and read such denigrating comments about me. Next year is going to be a wonderful year for the Lakers. I will just have to find another place to enjoy it.
*_________________________________________________________*
(01) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – OWNER - LakerTom - please add me to the list of many who have had your back throughout the various going's on around here. I would absolutely HATE to see you leave. Please reconsider. You're one of the best writers on here, and you'd be impossible to replace.
(02) KOBEMVP888 – DRIVER – LAKERTOM - Please reconsider. I view you as a Godfather on here and I would hate to see you leave without enjoying the in season Lakers/NBA talk with someone whose understanding of the game is as deep as yours.

(03) MAMBA24 –RIDING SHOTGUN – MANNNNNNN! MY Idol leaving the Blog? This ISH just aint right!
(04) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - LakerTom - that's too bad. I am sorry you feel like this and I am certainly not going to sway your current conviction. We have had our own back and forths but there has always been respect. However, you acknowledged your own shortcomings and it is a putoff to some. None of us should be made to feel less knowledgeable or loyal Laker fans because others might know more about bball, Laker tidbits or the NBA ins & outs. I have gotten over it and hopefully you will too. Your well-thought Laker history/knowledge will surely be missed and we won't have anyone to anchor the "AB17 is the beast" blog post that is certain to come this season. Perhaps everyone will be a little more respectful when it comes to race, religion, lifestyle preferences and other personal matters. This is a public forum to express opinions and any name calling shouldn't be part of it no matter how funny someone thinks it might be. We have to remember there are younger, possibly teenage Laker fans who have found this place to learn more about basketball and the Lakers in general. I certainly wouldn't want my nieces or nephews seeing some of the name calling and personal attacks either. Ciao for now LakerTom. I know you will secretly be reading the blog as a purist Lakerholic does. Maybe when you do come back it will be a more respectful place.
(05) KB-BLITZ - Sorry I missed that part. If you do decide to call it quits Laker Tom then I thank you for the last 2 years I've known you on this blog and for the many conversations/debates we had. Best wishes for you and your family.
(06) ART-FL LAKERS FAN - Laker Tom, FWIW, I agree with your take on the situation. It seems there are not many here who really are willing to take a stand and speak out at an injustice. There is the general can't we all get along stuff, but it pretty much stops there. And perhaps that's ok, perhaps it shouldn't be the roll of the blog participants to try and police itself since the bloggers have no authority or ability to remove an offensive poster. I guess it should be the roll of the blog monitor, but it's a roll that is not being filled by anyone on a fair, consistent and impartial basis.
(07) LEWSTRS - Laker Tom - "Wat ya talkin bout Willis" Please reconsider leaving the family...Maybe take a break...There is no Laker news, but you know darn well the closer we get to training camp...there will be more subjects to discuss... I think MM will find a solution to moderating the thread better...hell the trolls are even using his name...lol I'm sure MVP888 will agree...there is no other Laker Blog on the net with the content, members, knowledge, history and loyal fan hood, then our Blog...It's the reason I have transferred over, and I'm just regretting I didn't experience the last 3 years with this group from the start...So LT, we still have unfinished business with this group of Lakers...Let's witness the whole story together, for I think the best chapters are still to come... Long live the LAT Lakers Blog...and long live The Lakers...#17 coming Up...
(08)

Laker Tom;

Just read the news. Folks, don't get so graphic - some bloggers get a little out of shape about it. Tom, I'm on your side always - I didn't read the comments but you're not in grade school anymore and should be able to laugh about these things. It could be funny in a George Carlin sort of way.

Stick around. please. With you gone, who am I going to laugh at besides myself?

I remember sedalle he would have made a great role player on any of our championship teams, but Nick the Quick was just too talented not to get my vote for underrated team pg. As for center, we're talkin players under Buss right? Then I think I would have to go with Elden Cambell. If I think about it too long though I'll probably change my mind.

Didn't we get beat last Christmas day? How'd that work out for the Cavs?!

I don't feel that Gasol is at HOF level. Many better players than Pau are not in. His championships are a plus, but . . . . . I imagine that his international roots are also helping. If he were from the U.S., no no no so far.

Pau up in the Staples rafters is another thing.

Christmas game is just one of the 82 regulars season practice game...

Did the Cavs beating us last Christmas have anything to do with this finals...

Just means their is a good game to watch on Christmas day...I mean what is Christmas with out a Laker game...we expect it now...

I never bet with the Lakers, for in gambling, you should bet with your brain and not with your heart...When it comes to the Purple and Gold, it seems I'm all heart...

Saying that, I would bet the Lakers to win the Finals...that is with my heart and brain...I'll put my Rolex on it...

Then again, that could change by Christmas time...LOL

MM:

Some one was using my handle and yesterday spewing foul language. You should be able to verify the email associated with the handle.

PUT TEX WINTER IN HALL OF FAME NOW – BANDWAGON
ELEVEN RINGS AND COUNTING – How you like that HALL OF FAME
*__________________________________________________________________*
"As for his role as part of coaching’s odd couple, the 88-year-old Winter has never gotten the sort of respect he’s deserved from the snobbish and persnickety Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and these days he’s in a senior facility in Oregon after suffering a stroke this past spring. But the fiery Winter took Jackson from a guy who didn’t know a basic flex offense and forged him into the superior coach who has mastered Winter’s triangle system and dominated the game
*___________________________________________________________________*
(00) KOBE BYANT - When Kobe came out from the locker room the stopped to give Tex a squeeze.
(01) LAKERTOM – OWNER - You know, all our little bandwagons are a lot of fun but the one bandwagon that we really ought to use the power of the Blog to get rolling would be a Tex Winter Hall of Fame Bandwagon. We could even get Lakers and other NBA players to sign as well as every Lakers fan who reads or posts on the blog. Tex deserves to get in while he is still around
(02)JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - DRIVER - It's a travesty - an absolute TRAVESTY - that Tex isn't in already. NO TEX IN THE HOF??? NO PEACE!!!!
(03) MAMBA24 - ALT/DRIVER - NO TEX IN THE HOF??? NO PEACE !!!!
(04) LROB - RIDING SHOTGUN - Tex Winter - Unfortunately you're probably right about his chances being slim. You would think that MJ, Phil, Scottie and Kobe could just storm the committee and say enough already put Tex in.
(05) KOBEMVP888 –RIDING SHOTGUN 2 - Here is a brilliant piece by the controversial, but dedicated Lakers journalist, Roland Lazenby on Tex Winter. I will post the link and then an excerpt. Mamba24, BY ALL MEANS, please add me to this bandwagon! Thank you. http://lakernoise.com/2010/01/the-phil-phenomenon-by-roland-lazenby/ "As for his role as part of coaching’s odd couple, the 88-year-old Winter has never gotten the sort of respect he’s deserved from the snobbish and persnickety Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and these days he’s in a senior facility in Oregon after suffering a stroke this past spring. (06) JON K - SECURITY - How is Tex Winters not in the Hall of Fame? It's just plain wrong
(07 CALIPHILOSOPHER - Sign me up for the Tex Winter bandwagon.
(08) KT – I’m on the Tex Winter HOF Bandwagon. I'm happy that he's well enough to be there tonight.
(09) VMAN - The Hall is diminished by not having Tex. Hopefully, this is the year.
(10) KOBEBLITZ - Tex Winters has been one of the most brilliant basketball minds. It is his offense that made Michael Jordan from a isolation plays shot jacker to a team player that became one of the greatest of all time. His emphasis on team play gave the Bulls the team of the decade. TEAM play was his model. Not the isolation, less fundamental, more jacking up shots, highlight reel plays of today. It helped make Michael what he is today and help made Shaq help being the most dominant center of his time. Kobe I'm hoping stays more in the offense and score more efficiently. Get well Tex. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tex and his family.
(11) LAKER FAN 24 – Get well soon Tex
(12 BOZZ - Get well soon Tex, this Rings for y ou.
(13) IN THE ZEN MNASTER WE TRUST - Best wishes to Tex for a speedy and full recovery.
(14) EDWIN GUECO - Get Well Soon, our prayers from the Lakers Blog family
(15) BAYWOOD - Outspoken and Dedicated. He's put his full mark on the team we love.
(16) BENJAMIN - Tex, get well soon and thanks for the offense!
(17) LAKER TOM - Sad News about Tex. Get well soon and recover fully, Tex. We love you
and you’ll be in our prayers. We win tonight for you.
(18) OMEGA - best wishes to Tex and his family
(19) EJK - Best wishes to Tex. I'm guessing he pulls through this and is able to celebrate with us in June. It would be a shame if the Lakers don't come out tonight and get a win for Tex..
(20) BUTLER - The fans of the PHX SUNS wish the best to Tex Winter in his recovery
(21 FAN OF THE MAMBA - Get well soon Tex, our prayers go out to you and your family.
(22) RETURN OF THE PURPLE AND GOLD ASSASIN - Basketball is this man's life. He has contributed immeasurably with knowledge and passion to the best game on Earth. Now Let's go get a win for Tex!
(23) TOM DANIELS - Best wishes for Tex. I have long admired his lifelong push for baketball to be played the right way, to, as he puts it, please the basketball gods. A great mind and a feisty coach not at all intimidated by big salaries and big egos. All the best for a full and speedy recovery, I hope he is up and watching his Lakers again soon.
(24) JOHN IN HOUSTON - We're Pulling for you in Houston Tex Thanks for all the hard work and all the memories Tex. We are praying for your health and for your family.
(25) LAKERMAN420 This toke’s for Tex & his family & extended Laker family. WE’RE PULLING FOR YOU. (26) BRONXLAKERFAN May God help Mr. Winters and his family through this most difficult time. Mr. Winters has lived a long and distinguished life. I hope he recovers.
(26) SEGEBOY/TALIQ/SHERIFF – NO TEX WINTER IN HOF NO PEACE!!! Sign that winter bandwaggon as "10 rings and counting, you shame yourselves by refusing to acknowledge that the triangle offense and its architect has been an integral part of all those championships. Do the right thing people, acknowledge what is already in the history books instead of trying to explain it away"
(27) LAKERNORTH – I have to be on your bandwagon Tex
(28) EASTCOASTJESSIE – Can't wait to see tonight's ceremony...I might just cry
(29) BRIAN - the more fan pressure we give and persistence of it, (and media support) im sure the committee will ultimately decide upon entering Tex into the HOF. He well deserves it. It is his strategies and work on basketball that completely changed the game or at least, 11 of the last few championships of the modern time.
(30) LO FAN - Add me to the PUT TEX WINTER IN HALL OF FAME NOW – BANDWAGON Its bizarre to me that he is not already there. Makes absolutely no sensE
(31) FAN OF THE MAMBA - Put Tex in the hall of fame and put him in NOW! Add me to the bandwagon.
(32) LEWSTRS - please add me to the Tex Winter wagon...Without Tex, PJ might not have half his championships...
(33) LAKER-J - I can't believe I'm not part of the Tex in HOF Bandwagon. Sign me up please
(34) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - I'm good for another bandwagon too. And Tex with his contributions to 11 rings is definitely HOF worthy.
(35) TIM-4-SHOW - Tex should be in already
(36) TROY B - It's an absolute travesty that tex is not in the hof already. Seriously we need to start a petitition or something.
(37)KOBEMVP888 - BY ALL MEANS, please add me to this bandwagon! Than
(38)MUD - it's the hall of FAME, not the hall of great stats. head rep of the players union, hitter of some of the biggest shots in history and many times multiple championships is worth, at least, consideration.
that, of course, has nothing to do with the FACT that Tex should be in the hall NOW.
(39) HALOSANT - Will you save me a spot on the Bandwagon please?
(40)

@MM - Thanks, man. I think family is one of the reasons some seasoned posters might be jumping ship, it has nothing to do with your excellent threads.

Loved both Sedalle and Nick the Quick (that nickname just brought a tear to my eye remembering Chick Hearn). They were both fun to watch. Can you believe how spoiled we are? Even during so-called "rebuilding" years, Buss puts an entertaining product on the floor. We never get teams that tank to try to get a higher draft pick.

Don't agree, Mike. You could easily have said that L.A. is the only reason the U.S.A. is noticed at all. Not true either, but how shallow your well is.

True about Goliath, but some get on the train for the beauty of the game. That's why I like the Lakers and the Celtics. Folks howl at loving the Celtics around here, but it's for the beauty of the game. And nowhere else in the U.S.A. is the weather so perfect. We can snow ski in the morning and surf in the 80 degree shoreline in the same afternoon - or not. Everything is possible here - it's all up to oneself to decide to love or hate.

You have quite an anger - what happened to you?

I'd bet my money on the Lakers over the Heat on Christmas day. 1. Lakers will be at home. 2. The Lakers will be motivated and want to win. 3. The Lakers big men are better than Miami's big men. I not convinced yet about Bosh against the best. 4) The Lakers have three days off before this game.

How much would I bet? Being old and retired, I'll just give $100 to charity and skip the bet.

It is quite exciting to see all the talk about these two fine teams, the excitement, and the anticipation. When your the best, like the Lakers are, everyone wants a shot at the Champ. However, last year, I watched many Laker games on NBA League Pass and it was always a heartwarming to see the many Laker fans routing for the Lakers in other arenas around the League.

Over 40 minutes to see a post????

To those of you that caused this to happen... THANKS ALOT JERKS!!!!

Now what am I supposed to do... WORK?!?

I really think that the Lakers are geared up to win this one.

WHO NEEDS FISHIN, IT’S THE LAKERS I’M MISSIN
Yes I’m back & Fishing was bad, Still it was the most fun in a long time that I’ve had.
No laptops or Ipods & just one Cell, No Lebron James updates & No Posts from Hell
I sure missed the Morning Crue, And, yes I really missed the Head of Mamba Clan too!!!
How have things been here in Laker Nation? I sense in the Force a disturbing sensation
Has Miami won it’s 7 titles yet, With the 3 Meat Balls winning even one I wouldn’t bet
Does Lebron still refer to himself as the Royal we, Lebron please , think of your Legacy
Dwade is already starting to get sick, Trying to figure what makes Lebron James tick
Is Lebron slightly disturbed or completely mad, Lord what made a good Princess go Bad
But we’ll leave Miami to fall apart, And heal LakerBlog wounds or at least make a start
No family agrees on everything, Not even a family that has sixteen soon seventeen Rings
But instead of each other on which we beat, Turn that anger to Princess Jimmy & the Heat
This is going to be a long wild trip, Wacth Phil, Fish and Kobe as they let her rip.
If you have not done so as of yet, Make sure you Stock up on plenty of Vodka & percoset
Not that there is a chance in hell I say, Of any NBA team beating Freaking LA
But if Phils Lectures are any indication, We are in for one wild ride Laker Nation
So we need all hands on deck, We need to keep emotions against each other in check
Nothing more I can say or do, I’m mamba24 an unrecovered Lakerholic, How about You?

LakerTom,

One Tom to another, don't go away for good. You are one of the great voices on this blog (actually, some of the folks you get into disagreements with are too, but that's another story). You would be very missed.

Having said that, I understand. I took a break myself earlier in the year, tiring a bit from all the negativity directed at a team we are damn lucky to be fans of. It's one thing to be clear eyed about your team, another to spew hatred at its players and management. It took some of the fun out for me. Look LT, if folks can personally attack PJ and Kobe and Gasol and Fish, you are not off limits.

My blog vaca helped me learn to enjoy this place and brush off the stuff that drives me crazy (mostly). This is too rich a place for a Laker fan for me to leave forever, from the official posts that collect most of the interesting Lakers news in one place to the many informed and often funny fans who post below.

You have taken some, umm, well, pretty strong stances in the past, and made yourself a bit of a lightning rod. So you get some heat. And you give some back. That's all OK, but sometimes it does cross the line and I understand how you feel.

So take a break, but be back here before Bynum starts playing well so you don't look like a front-runner.

Tom D. (Tom the Lesser)

I am kind of sensing that all of these talks about Heat vs Lakers became MORE of news or issue when someone is saying that Miami CAN beat Lakers THAN vice versa..which to me, generally speaking most of people are acknowledging that the Lakers are better than the Heat.

Who cares about Christmas Day.

Come June, the Heat will wilt.

That's okay, Bow Wow Wow can have his doggy treat on Christmas Day. The Lakers will take the whole season in June. Lakers 2011 Champions.

Rick Fox is such a stud...First Vanessa Williams, now Eliza Dushku...and I'm sure there were many more beauts in between...

Tex, Fish and Cooper are in my HOF...

That bust of Kobe was scary looking...

I think a measure of success now is being invited to the George Lopez show...
Has LeBron been on recently...

I think the best bet is the Lakers will be in the finals again, instead of the Lakers winning the finals...I will bet the Rolex on that and throw in all my Lakers collectibles and jerseys...Who in the West will beat the Lakers...

My final name for Lamar Odom's new fragrance...JustaScent...

I was being sarcastic, of course the L.A. times are respectable! Trust I live in New Haven, CT. Compare the L.A. times to the New Haven Register, or the Hartford Courant (which is owned by the Tribune Company, which also owns the L.A. Times). both decent newspapers but the L.A. Times are in league with the Washington Post, New York Times, and the Chicago Tribune. Its one of the best. I love Los Angeles, I just hate the Lakers. But I hate the Heat too, so maybe we can root against the Heat together. I didn't mean to start crap on comments, but I just want to say the Knicks will have their day.

Mamba,
What I am chop liver? Put me on the bus...Gracias. Here's my comments from earlier

KB-

Did you catch my long winded post in response to your suggested topic? I really put some thought into it, although in hindsight Fish must be the clear cut choice at "point" guard. Personally, I never liked Van Exel and felt he was overrated for all his talents. As I stated in my underrated Lakers post, I think the Lakers would have won a championship, perhaps even beating the Bulls in 1998, had we traded Van Exel and Eddie Jones earlier and kept Sam Perkins (yes, I realize he was traded for Benoit Benjamin and Queen Dougie in 1993). Talk about the retrospectoscope! This would have sped up Kobe's development, not to mention D-Fish. The casualty would have been Eddie Jones, but oh well. Imagine a starting lineup which included young Kobe, Fish and Shaq with a stretch 4 who could also bang inside like Sam Perkins? Anyway ...

As for Sedale Threatt, it took a special type of player to deal with the devastation which was the shocking retirement of Magic Johnson. To play valiantly, with confidence and especially to endear himself to Lakers fans was an accomplishment that will always be underrated in my book.

this is the same bow wow who reps ATL and is always courtside at the lakers hawks game? hes such a bandwagoner...smh

Of course the regular season games don't carry the same weight, but I think both teams are going to be up big time for this game and that they are really going to want to win this one.

There aren't a lot of 'statement' games during the season for the Lakers, but this will be one of them, so will Boston.

With all the hype the Heat have received the Lakers are definitely going to want to knock them down a notch, especially being at home.

If both teams are healthy, this will be the game of the season with the intensity of a playoff game.

Thank you MM, clean up the garbage protect the reputation of your blog. You are being evaluated as well by third parties and advertisers and ifyou let these taggers rule your blog, then that is the end of sanity here. Because of your admission that it's the Typepad to implement the control on multiple handles, they are taking advantage of the blog's Achilles heel. We chose to blog with LA Times instead of BSPN because we know it is reliable and free flowing conversation. What we read last night is not a Laker Blog but a Garbage Blog!

this is not meaningless game, seasong games are not meaningless, how can you get to the finals without winning this so called meaningless games?, if LA dont beat HEAT in one of their regular season match-up even if they threepeat its meaningless..

go LAKERS!!!

Lakers are usually a disinterested bunch during a Christmas game. I'm sure the Heat will be fired up for that day, but I still think it's a disrespect for the Celtics for not being able to play the Lakers for that day.

The question is will their coach 'Eric Spoelstra' still be coaching the team by then and not Pat Riley.

I thought Bow Wow was a Cleveland fan. Yet he is rooting for the heat and even refering to them as "we."

lil bow wow, obviously he has NO understanding of the nba.............IM PRETTY SURE HE WAS ROOTING FOR THE LAKERS PRIOR TO MIAMI FORMED THERE DREAM TEAM.......ok lil man, match up every player on the heat squad to the laker squad and ask yourself honestly who is better at each position and then RE-THINK about your comment!!!!!!!!!! LAKERS ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL DAY

With national attention into the game, the lakers will beat the heat and the three stoogees.

Christmas games are for kids, it's for entertainment, NBA Finals is for men of valor engaging in a WAR....

All of it.

All in!

Most underrated HAS to be Nick the Quick Van Excellent. He was super clutch, an I actually loved his attitude. Fiery, but usually in our favor.

He was one of the reasons the Lakers would sometimes surprise people and make it to the second round in our lean years. During the same span, many other "better" players never made it out of the first round. Nick was a particular favorite of Chick as well.

Also, on the other teams he played on, even though he came off the bench, he proved to be one of their most important cogs as well. He was that spark, energy, and toughness guy off the bench.

He was underrated, but not by his team mates.

My second most underrated is Sedalle Threatt. He should be remember by Lakers faithful because he was the assist that game Magic the record. I remember that if someone bumped him on a jumper, it was like an 80% chance the shot was going in. It got to the point that he would purposely bump into people on his shot, to great affect. Especially if he was going left.

He had a certain "clutchness" about him as well. The Lakers have actually had quite a few "clutch" shooters over the years.

MM, I wonder if you should start a new thread exploring past and present Lakers who were known for clutch shooting. If I remember correctly, many of the Lakers clutch shooters were pretty normal shooters at all other times in the games. But, it seems that clutch shooting is what becomes the most important when it comes to collecting Larry O'Briens.

Well, just my $.02

@Magic Phil;

Thanks for the Nick the Quick memories. I remember both shots. I, however, forgot about Del Harris smack talking the Craptics after Nick made that shot. That was both classic and priceless. I always love it when the Lakers can grab victory from the clutches of the little green men.

Much appreciated, dude!

Bow-Wow, Bow-Wow....can you say fair weather fan?

The home team has a big disadvantage for the Xmas game. The visiting teams don't have all the distractions of family holiday commitments - night before or morning of.

It still sounds crazy with people making 6 month projections of victory for a specific game when one of the teams has yet to play a single game as a team.

Cavs won easily last year and where were they in June.

(35) TIM-4-SHOW - Tex should be in already
(36) TROY B - It's an absolute travesty that tex is not in the hof already. Seriously we need to start a petitition or something.
(37)MUD - it's the hall of FAME, not the hall of great stats. head rep of the players union, hitter of some of the biggest shots in history and many times multiple championships is worth, at least, consideration.
that, of course, has nothing to do with the FACT that Tex should be in the hall NOW.
(38) HALOSANT - Will you save me a spot on the Bandwagon please?
(39) NEWMEXICOLAKERLIFER - Please put me on the Tex Winter bandwagon.. He's the Godfather of the triangle

When something you love dearly that has been part of your life for the last five years no longer is fun, then the time has come to move on. That any blogger would be allowed to slur someone with such
rude and obscene comments without consequence is beyond any standard of good taste, fair play, & sportsmanship. As a result, I have decided to take a long & maybe permanent vacation from the blog. My thanks to KobeMVP, Art, and Blitz for having my back regarding the comments made but I
have no desire for my wife, son, grandson, or friends to come to this blog and read such denigrating comments about me. Next year is going to be a wonderful year for the Lakers. I will just have to find
another place to enjoy it.
*____________________________________________________________________*
(01) MARK MEDINA – BLOG GOD - LakerTom - Please don't leave us. You are a valuable member to this blog and I hope you reconsider
(02) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – OWNER - LakerTom - please add me to the list of many who have had your back throughout the various going's on around here. I would absolutely HATE to see you leave. Please reconsider. You're one of the best writers on here, and you'd be impossible to replace.
(03) KOBEMVP888 – DRIVER – LAKERTOM - Please reconsider. I view you as a Godfather on here and I would hate to see you leave without enjoying the in season Lakers/NBA talk with someone whose understanding of the game is as deep as yours.
(04) JON-K – RIDING SHOTGUN - LakerTom, I'm sorry. I didn't read the attacks upon you; otherwise I would have come to your defense. who was the jerk calling you names?
(05) MAMBA24 –MANNNNNNN! MY Idol leaving the Blog? This ISH just aint right!
(06) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - LakerTom - that's too bad.
(07) KB-BLITZ - Sorry I missed that part. If you do decide to call it quits Laker Tom then I thank you for the last 2 years I've known you on this blog and for the many conversations/debates we had. Best wishes for you and your family.
(08) ART-FL LAKERS FAN - Laker Tom, FWIW, I agree with your take on the situation.
(09) LEWSTRS - Laker Tom - "Wat ya talkin bout Willis" Please reconsider leaving the family...Maybe take a break...There is no Laker news, but you know darn well the closer we get to training camp...there will be more subjects to discuss...
(10) OLD HIPPY(NOT THE IMPOSTER) - While I can certainly think of some poster who really add NO value to the blog except for lot of wasted emotions and commotion. To these posters Mark Median even has begged them to stay because they add more value to his quest in climbing the LA times corporate ladder and I can understand it. Your posts are well crafted, thought out and fun to read, and I certainly hope that you continue to post regardless of the comments directed at you. I suggest that you sit out in the sun and get your skin toughened up.
(11) JAMIE SWEET - @LakerTom - Sad to see you leave LAT Laker Blog, but I split time between here and the K Bros blog because the vitrol here can be annoying and even maddening. It's sad how anger is used against people who are, essentially, all rooting for the same thing. I can't help but feel that context is a big issue, though not as large as the blatant insults being hurled from one side of the Blog to the other (much like monkeys flinging crap). I generally stay out of other people arguments and try to hew to the 'if you don't have anything nice to say...' mentality. But it does get wearisome scrolling through known troll posts and dealing with a general lack of civility. LEWSTRS pointed out that there is no other Laker Blog that has such a large body of active participants, but like an over-crowded ship, we're now jumping off and swimming for more spacious locals. Good luck LakerTom, can't say I can find fault with your decision as your admiration for one player has somehow morphed into Insultville, USA.
I hope to bump into you on the web somewhere. Adios.
(12) TOM DANIELS - LakerTom, One Tom to another, don't go away for good.
(13) MAGIC PHIL - What's going on here? It's been hard to catch up, but LakerTom needs to stay. Dear LakerTom, I have no idea what's going on, but plz reconsider your position. I bet it was some troll, right? C'mon, they'll always be around as long as we win rings. Your comments are always very good, polite, insightfull, bla, bla, etc... LEt's keep it up.
(14) DICE8UP - Shame that it has come to this LTom leaving. And I guess many still others who has preferred to stay away from this blog but still reads it on a daily basis, like myself. MM, you really have to make a decision here. Automatic posting should be for registered and long time Members/posters Regulated posting should be for first timers and/or new posters, or nregistered ones. But you have to have some kind of membership registration to make it happen. Exactly the reason why i seldom post here anymore. The MikeT days were fiery but it was better and civil. These days, bloggers would just come in here and resort to obscenities.

This Lakers unit has been playing together collectively as a unit for 3 years strong minimum, going to the finals every year and taking two of three. So when a dog like Bow Wow starts barking like he's protecting his owner (Heat), he's only motivated a Laker team that needs no further motivation.

I don't see how anyone can think that the Heat, who will have only played together as a unit, let alone cohesively by Christmas-time, for 3-4 months, can even consider being on the same level as the Lakers.

It will take major injuries (God forbid) and A LOT of luck to beat even a NON-motivated Laker team. This, of course, will not be the case.

Put up a good fight? Yah, for about 2 1/2 quarters, then execution and defensive recognition will come into play from the Laker's end - then game over. Time for the Heat to get out of the kitchen - their chefs are no match against this Laker's. Too much experience. Too much Phil-Zen calm, cool and confidence.

Besides, like so many others are saying, what does it matter anyway? It's not the Finals - and the Lakers are going to be seeing Shaq the Big Traitor and the Celtics in the Finals anyways.

I'll be watching regardless. Can't stand Lebron now.

I dont see miami beating lakers in the finals, point guard position i prefer lakers with fisher and blake, s.guard position would be a tie, lebron take the edge on artest, gasol is simply better all around player than bosh, an bynum has no enemy in center position... 2 hall of famers in bryant ( the best closer) and gasol, 1 dominant center, 1 clutch man en fisher and a strong defender in artest... no way guys

Laker Tom,
I too want to thank you.
Each blog topic I read, I scroll thru looking for your comments first. Then I go from the top down seeing how everyone else puts their 2 cents in.
I'm unaware of whatever sent this off, but there is value, and respect when we overcome the many too many.
So I hope you stay.
Respectfully,
Oregon Wade

Lakers never win any big matchups on X-mas. Thats why Bow Wow made that comment.....Anyone can tell you the Lakers have a horrible X-mas record. Me as a DIEHARD fan wouldnt beat the Lakers on a X-mas day.....But give me playoffs I'll bet my house.....;-)

I agree with TJHOP. AT least now I almost KNOW the Lakers are going to eat it on Christmas so my X-MAS day isn't ruined anymore. Was a time I'd sulk because usually the Lakers were paired against a team I hated on X-mas (Heat, Celtics, Cleveland and now the Heat again) so when they lost, I'd be all pissy. If I could stomach the Heat being successful and making it to the Finals, I'd almost wish they'd make it because I'd love to have them get their hopes up on x-mas only to get flattened by us come June. Almost. I'd rather us play the Celts again (on x-mas as well).

Who cares about what George Lopez thinks? He did predict that Oscar de La Hoya will destroy Manny Pacquaio and look at how PacMan demolished Oscar as if he was a punching bag inside the ring.

LAL will beat the Heat convingcly on Christmas day and people will start to doubt the Heat and when its all said and done Erik Spoelstra will be fired for failing to win an NBA title.

Maybe they will, maybe they wont BUT the Lakers will get a 3-peat this season!
