Assessing ticket demand for Lakers' opening night

6a00d8341c506253ef0133f161210b970b-600wi

We're nearly two months away from the Lakers' season-opener and it's been clear these last few weeks that Laker fans are wondering if they can just hit fast forward. As indicated by some of the early ticket draws, it can't come soon enough.

SeatGeek.com, which forecasts the prices of sports and concert tickets on the secondary market, indicates that the Lakers-Rockets home opener is the fourth-most costly home opener at $327 per ticket, according to spokesperson Gavin Skillman. The Suns' home opener against the Lakers is priced at $186. In yet another sign that this Heat-Lakers storyline will never die this season, Miami has the three top spots in league home openers. The Heat's home opener against Orlando marks the NBA's highest-priced event at $500 per ticket; the Celtics' home opener against Miami earns the second top draw at $460; and the 76ers' home opener against the Heat stands at third place at $376 per ticket.

good morning fabulous Laker Blog Family

Mamba,

My apologies. You're on your j.o.b. I see was added the the Tex Winter bandwagon already. Carry on sir!

Ha ha ha, this thread popped up for a minute at 12 and I made my comment. Then it disappeared and I thought my comment was. Looks like it survived lol.

Right about now is when I start wishing that people were mature and we didn't have to be moderated.

KobeMVP888- thanks for sharing the insight about PJ and Tex. That was good stuff.

Some delays?

I'm so glad you were able to put up a new thread but none of our posts.

This really bites.

Also, while people have been looking for Kobe's Pippen since Shaq left, when Fish returned to the Lakers for the 2007-08 season, he proved that he has been Kobe's Pippen all along. Game 3 of the 2010 NBA Finals was the defining game to accentuate that point. When Kobe went cold, Brian Shaw saw a wrinkle in the Chowds' defense and Kobe and Fish ran the rarely seen 2 man screen role between them to perfection. Fish came through when Kobe needed him most.

All I can say is that he is in MY Hall of Fame and ranks right up there with my all-time favorite Lakers.

Go D-Fish! #6 coming up STRONG!!

Posted by: KobeMVP888 | August 20, 2010 at 01:21 PM

I love your passion for DFish. But its a disservice to Pippen's greatest to compare Fish to him.

Tom Daniels - Thanks for the sharing the your story on Tex.

Hey Troy B!

In the photo for this thread, why do I find the guy with the sunglasses and the wifebeater t-shirt to be particularly annoying?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

I guess the system is broken...

Maybe back to the instant post again...

A predicted $327 on the secondary market for Lakers/Rockets tickets - Yikes!! $500 for Miami vs Orlando - OUCH! Those South Beach folks have the bucks.

I've watched the Lakers on NBA League Pass for the WHOLE season on DISH for UNDER $200. Great seats on my home couch in Red Bluff, CA. My wife thinks I'm a bit nuts cheering, cussing, grumbling, YES!!!ing at my big screen during the Lakers games. "Laker's Crazy Man" she says - with an understanding smile.

I just hope DISH and NBALP don't squabble about pricing like they did 2 years ago and we could not purchase broadcasts till December. I'd pay $400 to NBALP for the season ... what the heck are they debating about??

I do hope to make the Lakers vs Sacramento game in Sac Town on 11/3. I'd better buy early, that one sells out fast.

The cheering of the Staples crowd in Game 7 against the great Celtics team still is ringing in my ears: DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! I yelled it out to my big screen TV at the same time. What a memory! The loudest I've ever heard.

It sure is quiet around here, I think I just heard an ant fart. OK so I live in NorCal, so I'm catching the Lakers against the Kings on Nov. 3rd. I'll be representing!

Say Good-Bye to Number 37? Hello Number 15?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2010/08/20/artest-switches-to-jersey-15/

"Lakers forward Ron Artest won a championship while sporting the No. 37 jersey in his first year in Los Angeles, but has decided to switch things up heading into year two.

The Lakers on Friday confirmed a report that Artest will wear No. 15, his first jersey number in the NBA with Chicago, as well as the digits he wore in college at St. Johns.

During the 2009-10 season, Artest mentioned that he would consider switching jerseys every year, so we’ll have to wait and see how long No. 15 lasts."
---------------------------------------------------------------

Artest being Artest. Though I wonder if he did sent the paperwork last season that allowed him to change his number. I remember it took KB by like April of 2006 for him to change from 8 to 24. Maybe Ron did it in secret?

You know, all this talk about the heat's new " Big 3" being the best dynasty ever is making me sick. An outsider might even think that a heat roster with Wade, James, and Bosh will be unbeatable, and might even finish the reg season with the unfathomable 82-0.
Oh well, i just cant wait till the christmas day game so everyone can come back to reality and face the fact that were still the two time defending champion LA Lakers and... were getting the 3 peat no matter who we face in the finals!

PS: Bow wow, better pay up Georgle Lopez now, cause LA will beat Miami on christmas day. And never bet on a Laker fan, you'll always lose...

So Artest is changing his jersey number to #15?
WTH? He did great w/ #37, he should stay w/ #37.

Hey guys I caught up to speed with the comments. I apologize for the inconvenience but we're going to have to keep it moderated. Believe me, I don't like this either. Hopefully this gets everything under control.

LakerTom - Please don't leave us. You are a valuable member to this blog and I hope you reconsider

What's going on here? It's been hard to catch up, but LakerTom needs to stay.

Dear LakerTom, I have no idea what's going on, but plz reconsider your position. I bet it was some troll, right? C'mon, they'll always be around as long as we win rings. Your comments are always very good, polite, insightfull, bla, bla, etc...
Let's keep it up.

Yeah Tom - get rid of the thin skin. Brave the blog and don't fade.

Well, it looks like Fatty was banned by Mark Medina.....

We started out arguing which Kobe was better, #8 Kobe or #24 Kobe. I took the #8 because of the 81 and he took #24 because Kobe got those Titles without Shaq.

Then it got real heated and I said Field Hockey was a sport for girls and if Mark ever came to Arizona, I would have him deported to New York, under the 'SB 1070, citizens of Buffalo, New York' clause.

The next thing I knew, he said I was banned for one week, then Fatty said, "Why don't you make it two?" And he said "fine, then make it so!" So I'm off to the Virtual Blog Jail for two weeks or...... I get a pardon with some big breaking Lakers news, whichever comes first.

In the mean time, I plan to use all my extra time saved from the blog, to relocate to our new winter home in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Fatty - Who says he can get you opening day tickets for half of what the agencies can do. Send your CC info to the usual location with a return addressed, stamped envelope.

Unfortunately no, the back and forth between him, mage, and kbblitz just went a little overboard. A comment was made that I'm sure was regretted, but lakertom said it was something he wouldn't want his kids to read. I sincerely hope LT comes back, all three of them are valuable members of this community.

I know you are on vacation MM and so are we. However, the topics chosen are borderline cheesy that caters to masses in order to create more posts. Try to concentrate on quality not on quantity of threads. Lately, while in between trips I have been reading other blogs other than LA Times but never placed any comments. I am impressed by their completeness in their analysis of the the new Lakers compared to our players in the previous year. All I have been reading in your blog are about Kobe & Kobe, JB or the reality TV enthusiasts, the Kardashian. These are fillers when there are no news to report. I wish we have more substantive reporting such as the following:

1. Profile of each Laker player like an expanded Wikipedia of say, Derick Caracter. Who is he? Where did he play? His family circles, any anecdotes during his high school etc. It is similar to the Sports Illustrated article about the Lakers. Why not invest on a summer trainee and make such kind of research? We have 14 players and could fill in your topic good for two weeks;

2. We are all Laker fans here and kept on mentioning the front office yet don't have any idea of the responsibilities of the front office, who are the people in the Laker organization? How about a little write up of Mitch Kupchak, Ronnie Lester, Jim Buss what are their jobs? who are the LA scouts? is Vlade Divac still affiliated with F/O, I heard he is being groomed for another international award? How about Bill Bertka, best friend of Chick, what does he think about the Lakers?

3. Who are the players joining the preseason? Where will be their role? Are we still adding players? What is going on with the FIBA basketball in Turkey in the middle of September? Are you allowed to show some videos of their games?

You see, I'm on the outside fan and I was able to enumerate several topics outside of the Kobe vs. Jordan or about Bynum. I'm sure if you act as a Moderator and use your influence within the LAT, you can gain access of these information. Another way is to participate in the discussions or debates as an arbitrator in order to regulate it by feeding some information. Watch out those foul languages and name calling by participants sometimes due to emotions it leads to retaliation and unwarranted accusations. They are debates without any resolution but pure speculation of the writers. Watch out for the "gotcha" bloggers like lakerfan or JLF and other trolls assuming identities. Lately, they felt left out so they're trying to go against the grain in the blog discussions. Again, let us remind everyone bloggers responsibilities to one another. Bloggers are not public figures but merely opinion makers or messengers of opinions. Concentrate on the subject and not on the writers. We don't know anything about the personal lives like for example of Justa or JAMF, Larry, Tom, Rob, Art except of what they have volunteered to share. These are privileged information so please respect their privacies. It is a matter of bringing everyone to the blog or LAT legal spiel, another way of looking at it are suggested netiquette rules such as:

http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

Of course, there is the boyish or girlish attitude in us, feeling young and just want to have fun, there is a clean fun, an out of control fun like last night and the worst one, making fun of someone else that you don't know mixed with unpalatable gangsta' lingo. Try to eliminate and weed out those kind of posts. Lakers Blog is like a wall in your home. If you let a taggers deface your wall by not "immediately" attending to what was written, then very soon that wall will be filled with more graffiti. A wise guy has an interpretation to this kind of art, it is up to you MM to make such decisions and implement it. Don't let one poster or few posters ruin your whole blog. Again a reminder of the cliche': "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

I know LakerTom, Jon K and the best writers in this blog, they will support you if maintain sanity in your blog. There will be no bloggers flight if they sense there is mutual respect and passion in this site. There were Laker fans first before this blog, we are here for purely passion for the Lakers and nothing else. There are some blog which were deemed failures from the start like: the Adande Blog, Kareem's Blog and maybe Mike Bresnahan blog too so your job MM is to balance passion and decency based on what you decide. The KBros will seize every opportunty if you leave your blog to the undesirables. Think about it.

Magic Phil,

you wrote: Dear LakerTom, I have no idea what's going on, but plz reconsider your position. I bet it was some troll, right? C'mon, they'll always be around as long as we win rings. Your comments are always very good, polite, insightfull, bla, bla, etc...

my response: Nope. It wasn't a troll. It was me. Despite all the olive branches
I offered, he kept calling me names and I responded in kind. he got offended
and decided to leave.

LakerfanInCowTown-

First welcome to the blog. Hope you stick around, this really is a great place for lakerholics like us!

I agree with what you said, the triangle does not normally allow for a single player to rack up assists. In fact, that is one of the reasons I've been hesitant to want a Paul/Nash type player. Their game is predicated on creating shots for others, while with the Lakers it's the triangle and ball and player movement that does that. I'm sure they would be able to adjust their games accordingly, but I just don't know what the end product would be.

I agree about game 5 also, EVERYONE played the "right way". But I still stand by what I said, it all starts with Kobe. Usually, when Kobe plays that way, the rest of the team follows suit. It's contagious. I think as Kobe starts winding down in his career, he will play that role more often and only go in scorer mode when the team doesn't "have it". That's what he should have done in game 4 of the okc series.

As for Nick the Quick, he was really good. Unfortunately his attitude got in the way. Once we signed Phil I wished we still had Van Exel. If anyone could control his attitude it would have been PJ. I think we could have had a greater run than we did. I fully believe that if we hadn't lost in '03 and '04, Kobe and Shaq would have made it work. The fact that we were no longer winning championships made their relationship deteriorate much faster.

I actually stole a Nick the Quick move in my early years. It was pretty simple to perform and usually got the job done. For a shooter you just need to create a little separation and for a non-superstar, Nick was excellent at that.

So Artest is changing his jersey number to #15?
WTH? He did great w/ #37, he should stay w/ #37.

Agree 100%. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

BLöG CЯüE
I've taken a nice needed break from basketball and enjoyed my family since I'll be leaving to Hungary in a few days. I'll be ready for the season to begin and do it all over again. I'm happy I got Ron Ron to sign my #37 Lakers jersey before he switches numbers. I now have to begin getting the new players jerseys. Any Lakers fans in Papa, Hungary?

Laker Tom- what's going on brother?

Cölöradö löves öür Wörld Champiön Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy cow moderation sucks! I had almost forgotten how bad it was. You can't have a conversation on here anymore. Sheesh why can't people just be mature!? Now I'm gonna have to wait to read the comments and take an hour just to catch up.

At least it's better than having to put up the crap that was going on before.

MM- are you gonna try insta posting again if you don't get many bad comments?

put up *with* the crap on here before

As a side note, is this the first time that a comment on a thread is time stamped earlier that the thread itself?

Man I feel like I'm talking to myself here.

I guess no more night crew huh?

By the way, M24 was here today, but no roll calls. Are those on hiatus for now?

Laker Tom,

Quit tripping. You need to stay. We all love the Lakers and I personally enjoy your perspective. Take a break for a little while, relax and enjoy your family. But do come back because this board is better when there's diverse opinions.

Now click on the link below and continue to do what the song says.

Hard for me to call Van Exel underrated. He was quick, could be dangerous, but he was a quitter. After the "Cancun" chant his fate as a journeyman was sealed.

LAKER TOM PLEASE RECONSIDER LEAVING – BANDWAGON
*___________________________________________________________________*
When something you love dearly that has been part of your life for the last five years no longer is fun, then the time has come to move on. That any blogger would be allowed to slur someone with such
rude and obscene comments without consequence is beyond any standard of good taste, fair play, & sportsmanship. As a result, I have decided to take a long & maybe permanent vacation from the blog. My thanks to KobeMVP, Art, and Blitz for having my back regarding the comments made but I
have no desire for my wife, son, grandson, or friends to come to this blog and read such denigrating comments about me. Next year is going to be a wonderful year for the Lakers. I will just have to find
another place to enjoy it.

(00) MARK MEDINA – BLOG GOD - LakerTom - Please don't leave us. You are a valuable member to this blog and I hope you reconsider
(02) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN – OWNER - LakerTom - please add me to the list of many who have had your back throughout the various going's on around here. I would absolutely HATE to see you leave. Please reconsider. You're one of the best writers on here, and you'd be impossible to replace.
(03) KOBEMVP888 – DRIVER – LAKERTOM - Please reconsider. I view you as a Godfather on here and I would hate to see you leave without enjoying the in season Lakers/NBA talk with someone whose understanding of the game is as deep as yours.
(04) JON-K – RIDING SHOTGUN - LakerTom, I'm sorry. I didn't read the attacks upon you; otherwise I would have come to your defense. who was the jerk calling you names?
(05) MAMBA24 –MANNNNNNN! MY Idol leaving the Blog? This ISH just aint right!
(06) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - LakerTom - that's too bad. I am sorry you feel like this and I am certainly not going to sway your current conviction. We have had our own back and forths but there has always been respect. However, you acknowledged your own shortcomings and it is a putoff to some. None of us should be made to feel less knowledgeable or loyal Laker fans because others might know more about bball, Laker tidbits or the NBA ins & outs. I have gotten over it and hopefully you will too. Your well-thought Laker history/knowledge will surely be missed and we won't have anyone to anchor the "AB17 is the beast" blog post that is certain to come this season. Perhaps everyone will be a little more respectful when it comes to race, religion, lifestyle preferences and other personal matters. This is a public forum to express opinions and any name calling shouldn't be part of it no matter how funny someone thinks it might be. We have to remember there are younger, possibly teenage Laker fans who have found this place to learn more about basketball and the Lakers in general. I certainly wouldn't want my nieces or nephews seeing some of the name calling and personal attacks either. Ciao for now LakerTom. I know you will secretly be reading the blog as a purist Lakerholic does. Maybe when you do come back it will be a more respectful place.
(07) KB-BLITZ - Sorry I missed that part. If you do decide to call it quits Laker Tom then I thank you for the last 2 years I've known you on this blog and for the many conversations/debates we had. Best wishes for you and your family.
(08) ART-FL LAKERS FAN - Laker Tom, FWIW, I agree with your take on the situation. It seems there are not many here who really are willing to take a stand and speak out at an injustice. There is the general can't we all get along stuff, but it pretty much stops there. And perhaps that's ok, perhaps it shouldn't be the roll of the blog participants to try and police itself since the bloggers have no authority or ability to remove an offensive poster. I guess it should be the roll of the blog monitor, but it's a roll that is not being filled by anyone on a fair, consistent and impartial basis.
(09) LEWSTRS - Laker Tom - "Wat ya talkin bout Willis" Please reconsider leaving the family...Maybe take a break...There is no Laker news, but you know darn well the closer we get to training camp...there will be more subjects to discuss... I think MM will find a solution to moderating the thread better...hell the trolls are even using his name...lol I'm sure MVP888 will agree...there is no other Laker Blog on the net with the content, members, knowledge, history and loyal fan hood, then our Blog...It's the reason I have transferred over, and I'm just regretting I didn't experience the last 3 years with this group from the start...So LT, we still have unfinished business with this group of Lakers...Let's witness the whole story together, for I think the best chapters are still to come... Long live the LAT Lakers Blog...and long live The Lakers...#17 coming Up...
(10) OLD HIPPY(NOT THE IMPOSTER) - While I can certainly think of some poster who really add NO value to the blog except for lot of wasted emotions and commotion. To these posters Mark Median even has begged them to stay because they add more value to his quest in climbing the LA times corporate ladder and I can understand it. Your posts are well crafted, thought out and fun to read, and I certainly hope that you continue to post regardless of the comments directed at you. I suggest that you sit out in the sun and get your skin toughened up.
(11) JAMIE SWEET - @LakerTom - Sad to see you leave LAT Laker Blog, but I split time between here and the K Bros blog because the vitrol here can be annoying and even maddening. It's sad how anger is used against people who are, essentially, all rooting for the same thing. I can't help but feel that context is a big issue, though not as large as the blatant insults being hurled from one side of the Blog to the other (much like monkeys flinging crap). I generally stay out of other people arguments and try to hew to the 'if you don't have anything nice to say...' mentality. But it does get wearisome scrolling through known troll posts and dealing with a general lack of civility. LEWSTRS pointed out that there is no other Laker Blog that has such a large body of active participants, but like an over-crowded ship, we're now jumping off and swimming for more spacious locals. Good luck LakerTom, can't say I can find fault with your decision as your admiration for one player has somehow morphed into Insultville, USA.
I hope to bump into you on the web somewhere. Adios.
(12) TOM DANIELS - LakerTom, One Tom to another, don't go away for good. You are one of the great voices on this blog (actually, some of the folks you get into disagreements with are too, but that's another story). You would be very missed. Having said that, I understand. I took a break myself earlier in the year, tiring a bit from all the negativity directed at a team we are damn lucky to be fans of. It's one thing to be clear eyed about your team, another to spew hatred at its players and management. It took some of the fun out for me. Look LT, if folks can personally attack PJ and Kobe and Gasol and Fish, you are not off limits. My blog vaca helped me learn to enjoy this place and brush off the stuff that drives me crazy (mostly). This is too rich a place for a Laker fan for me to leave forever, from the official posts that collect most of the interesting Lakers news in one place to the many informed and often funny fans who post below. You have taken some, umm, well, pretty strong stances in the past, and made yourself a bit of a lightning rod. So you get some heat. And you give some back. That's all OK, but sometimes it does cross the line and I understand how you feel. So take a break, but be back here before Bynum starts playing well so you don't look like a front-runner.
(13) MAGIC PHIL - What's going on here? It's been hard to catch up, but LakerTom needs to stay. Dear LakerTom, I have no idea what's going on, but plz reconsider your position. I bet it was some troll, right? C'mon, they'll always be around as long as we win rings. Your comments are always very good, polite, insightfull, bla, bla, etc... LEt's keep it up.

PUT TEX WINTER IN HALL OF FAME NOW – BANDWAGON
ELEVEN RINGS AND COUNTING – How you like that HALL OF FAME
*__________________________________________________________________*
"As for his role as part of coaching’s odd couple, the 88-year-old Winter has never gotten the sort of respect he’s deserved from the snobbish and persnickety Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and these days he’s in a senior facility in Oregon after suffering a stroke this past spring. But the fiery Winter took Jackson from a guy who didn’t know a basic flex offense and forged him into the superior coach who has mastered Winter’s triangle system and dominated the game
*___________________________________________________________________*
(00) KOBE BYANT - When Kobe came out from the locker room the stopped to give Tex a squeeze.
(01) LAKERTOM – OWNER - You know, all our little bandwagons are a lot of fun but the one bandwagon that we really ought to use the power of the Blog to get rolling would be a Tex Winter Hall of Fame Bandwagon. We could even get Lakers and other NBA players to sign as well as every Lakers fan who reads or posts on the blog. Tex deserves to get in while he is still around
(02)JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - DRIVER - It's a travesty - an absolute TRAVESTY - that Tex isn't in already. NO TEX IN THE HOF??? NO PEACE!!!!
(03) MAMBA24 - ALT/DRIVER - NO TEX IN THE HOF??? NO PEACE !!!!
(04) LROB - RIDING SHOTGUN - Tex Winter - Unfortunately you're probably right about his chances being slim. You would think that MJ, Phil, Scottie and Kobe could just storm the committee and say enough already put Tex in.
(05) KOBEMVP888 –RIDING SHOTGUN 2 - Here is a brilliant piece by the controversial, but dedicated Lakers journalist, Roland Lazenby on Tex Winter. I will post the link and then an excerpt. BY ALL MEANS, please add me to this bandwagon! Thank you. http://lakernoise.com/2010/01/the-phil-phenomenon-by-roland-lazenby/ "As for his role as part of coaching’s odd couple, the 88-year-old Winter has never gotten the sort of respect he’s deserved from the snobbish and persnickety Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and these days he’s in a senior facility in Oregon after suffering a stroke this past spring. (06) JON K - SECURITY - How is Tex Winters not in the Hall of Fame? It's just plain wrong
(07 CALIPHILOSOPHER - Sign me up for the Tex Winter bandwagon.
(08) KT – I’m on the Tex Winter HOF Bandwagon. I'm happy that he's well enough to be there tonight.
(09) VMAN - The Hall is diminished by not having Tex. Hopefully, this is the year.
(10) KOBEBLITZ - Tex Winters has been one of the most brilliant basketball minds. It is his offense that made Michael Jordan from a isolation plays shot jacker to a team player that became one of the greatest of all time. His emphasis on team play gave the Bulls the team of the decade. TEAM play was his model. Not the isolation, less fundamental, more jacking up shots, highlight reel plays of today. It helped make Michael what he is today and help made Shaq help being the most dominant center of his time. Kobe I'm hoping stays more in the offense and score more efficiently. Get well Tex. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Tex and his family.
(11) LAKER FAN 24 – Get well soon Tex
(12 BOZZ - Get well soon Tex, this Rings for y ou.
(13) IN THE ZEN MNASTER WE TRUST - Best wishes to Tex for a speedy and full recovery.
(14) EDWIN GUECO - Get Well Soon, our prayers from the Lakers Blog family
(15) BAYWOOD - Outspoken and Dedicated. He's put his full mark on the team we love.
(16) BENJAMIN - Tex, get well soon and thanks for the offense!
(17) LAKER TOM - Sad News about Tex. Get well soon and recover fully, Tex. We love you
and you’ll be in our prayers. We win tonight for you.
(18) OMEGA - best wishes to Tex and his family
(19) EJK - Best wishes to Tex. I'm guessing he pulls through this and is able to celebrate with us in June. It would be a shame if the Lakers don't come out tonight and get a win for Tex..
(20) BUTLER - The fans of the PHX SUNS wish the best to Tex Winter in his recovery
(21 FAN OF THE MAMBA - Get well soon Tex, our prayers go out to you and your family.
(22) RETURN OF THE PURPLE AND GOLD ASSASIN - Basketball is this man's life. He has contributed immeasurably with knowledge and passion to the best game on Earth. Now Let's go get a win for Tex!
(23) TOM DANIELS - Best wishes for Tex. I have long admired his lifelong push for baketball to be played the right way, to, as he puts it, please the basketball gods. A great mind and a feisty coach not at all intimidated by big salaries and big egos. All the best for a full and speedy recovery, I hope he is up and watching his Lakers again soon.
(24) JOHN IN HOUSTON - We're Pulling for you in Houston Tex Thanks for all the hard work and all the memories Tex. We are praying for your health and for your family.
(25) LAKERMAN420 This toke’s for Tex & his family & extended Laker family. WE’RE PULLING FOR YOU. (26) BRONXLAKERFAN May God help Mr. Winters and his family through this most difficult time. Mr. Winters has lived a long and distinguished life. I hope he recovers.
(26) SEGEBOY/TALIQ/SHERIFF – NO TEX WINTER IN HOF NO PEACE!!! Sign that winter bandwaggon as "10 rings and counting, you shame yourselves by refusing to acknowledge that the triangle offense and its architect has been an integral part of all those championships. Do the right thing people, acknowledge what is already in the history books instead of trying to explain it away"
(27) LAKERNORTH – I have to be on your bandwagon Tex
(28) EASTCOASTJESSIE – Can't wait to see tonight's ceremony...I might just cry
(29) BRIAN - the more fan pressure we give and persistence of it, (and media support) im sure the committee will ultimately decide upon entering Tex into the HOF. He well deserves it. It is his strategies and work on basketball that completely changed the game or at least, 11 of the last few championships of the modern time.
(30) LO FAN - Add me to the PUT TEX WINTER IN HALL OF FAME NOW – BANDWAGON Its bizarre to me that he is not already there. Makes absolutely no sensE
(31) FAN OF THE MAMBA - Put Tex in the hall of fame and put him in NOW! Add me to the bandwagon.
(32) LEWSTRS - please add me to the Tex Winter wagon...Without Tex, PJ might not have half his championships...
(33) LAKER-J - I can't believe I'm not part of the Tex in HOF Bandwagon. Sign me up please
(34) PSYCHEDLAKERGIRL - I'm good for another bandwagon too. And Tex with his contributions to 11 rings is definitely HOF worthy.
(35) TIM-4-SHOW - Tex should be in already
(36) TROY B - It's an absolute travesty that tex is not in the hof already. Seriously we need to start a petitition or something.
(37)MUD - it's the hall of FAME, not the hall of great stats. head rep of the players union, hitter of some of the biggest shots in history and many times multiple championships is worth, at least, consideration.
that, of course, has nothing to do with the FACT that Tex should be in the hall NOW.
(38) HALOSANT - Will you save me a spot on the Bandwagon please?
(39) NEWMEXICOLAKERLIFER - Please put me on the Tex Winter bandwagon.. He's the Godfather of the triangle

Guys,

We're going to keep it at moderation until we take it under control. I wish there was a system that allowed the normal posters to automatically post and newbies to have to sign in, but the system isn't structured that way. We had long debated positives and negatives of insta posting vs. moderation, but it seemed the past few days trolls infested it a lot. I don't want people to be driven away and upset so we need to restore order here first. I'll consider going back to the way it was once get everything situated.

MM

Edwin - Believe me, I'm not worried about quantity over quality. The reality is there's no news coming out and I have been doing some enterprise pieces lately with Kobe's Hall of Fame speech, other HOF candidates, etc. The Khloe stuff I highlighted because it was news and thought it might be good to add some humor and something you don't read everyday.

Once I'm not on vacation and the season is near there will be better stuff to write and talk about. But I think even with visiting family I've been trying to keep the threads interesting.

MM

I love your passion for DFish. But its a disservice to Pippen's greatest to compare Fish to him.

Posted by: LRob | August 20, 2010 at 03:56 PM
======

Perhaps you missed my point. I'm talking about the co-leader. The Robin to Batman. It's been Fish all along, but in a completely different way. Game 4 in Orlando. Game 3 in Boston. Kobe trusted him probably MORE than MJ ever trusted Pippen. It's completely different, but I stand by my analogy. No, Fish did not possess Pippen's game or is anywhere near his talent level, but he's been every bit the trusted sidekick all along. If you open them up, I bet Fish has the bigger heart.

(01) MARK MEDINA – BLOG GOD - LakerTom - Please don't leave us.
You're one of the best writers on here, and you'd be impossible to replace

(14) DICE8UP - Shame that it has come to this LTom leaving. And I guess many still others who has preferred to stay away from this blog but still reads it on a daily basis, like myself. MM, you really have to make a decision here. Automatic posting should be for registered and long time Members/posters Regulated posting should be for first timers and/or new posters, or nregistered ones. But you have to have some kind of membership registration to make it happen. Exactly the reason why i seldom post here anymore. The MikeT days were fiery but it was better and civil. These days, bloggers would just come in here and resort to obscenities.
(15) LROB - Laker Tom, Quit tripping. You need to stay. We all love the Lakers and I personally enjoy your perspective. Take a break for a little while, relax and enjoy your family. Yeah, you've ben sooooo niiiice to Laker Tom, always taking the high road. Give me a break. We're not illiterate in here, although maybe I am with all the "cow manure" I post. Right? You drove away a very valuable contributor and now try to wash yourself of it by extending a so-called (self-serving) "olive branch." Cellophane, baby.

Geeez,
LakerTom is leaving??
Don't let the door hit your backside on the way out of the building!! You won't be missed!
If you're going through hell, keep going.
The buck stops here.
You find out what a man is truly made of when faced with adversity.

Oh well, we will just have to survive it.

This Laker team is undeniably weak. No question the Celtics and Heat have to be favored to win the finals next season. I mean, you have Kobe and Gasol and then what??? A bunch of question marks.

l

MVP888-yes, Fish has the bigger heart. in the end, they are both effective ballplayers. i'd rather have 5 of Fish on a team than 5 Pippens even though Derek isn't half the player that Pippen was. the 5 Dereks would make the 5 Pippens say "uncle" in the first 5 minutes of the game. Pippen of the headaches and hissy fits just performed well because he was afraid Jordan was going to kick his behind and hurt Pip's mother is he didn't. of course, i joke, not knowing any of these people, but i suspect that the truth is somewhere inside that bit of hyperbole...

the game is not about stats, although stats can tell a lot about certain aspects of the game. it's possible to lose in all stat catagories but one and still win the game, and that one important stat is the final score. Fisher is at least as big a winner as Pippen was, or that's my opinion anyway.

LT, they got a little rough with you, i'll admit, but the biggest biyatch move is to take yourself too seriously, as so many others on this board have done. Lakersblogs, wonderful as they are, are not the same as living breathing friends. Lakersblogs are for getting Lakers news and expressing blowhard opinions about trivial things as though saving the world. you are good at that. keep doing it, even if they make fun of you for your opinion. you lost when you began fighting in the first place. there's no beating an internet bully, but there's no reason to be one either. calling a hater a hater is one thing, but calling them some other socially perjorative name is just childish. those who have made the mistake of acting like a jerk, know it and need to not do it again, not for me, or you or "themselves", but just because it's right. that includes you, LT and me. you were having such a good time, you should go back to that. express your blowhard opinion like the rest of us, and then see what happens and cheer. or don't. life goes on.

thanks all who read this for reading it. i feel more important already.

Just got home....
C'mon hobbit...I like you, man...I likee both, so stop this ISH and remember, we're a family.
Cheers.

WHO NEEDS FISHIN, IT’S THE LAKERS I’M MISSIN
Yes I’m back & Fishing was bad, Still it was the most fun in a long time that I’ve had.
No laptops or Ipods & just one Cell, No Lebron James updates & No Posts from Hell
I sure missed the Morning Crue, And, yes I really missed the Head of Mamba Clan too!!!
How have things been here in Laker Nation? I sense in the Force a disturbing sensation
Has Miami won it’s 7 titles yet, With the 3 Meat Balls winning even one I wouldn’t bet
Does Lebron still refer to himself as the Royal we, Lebron please , think of your Legacy
Dwade is already starting to get sick, Trying to figure what makes Lebron James tick
Is Lebron slightly disturbed or completely mad, Lord what made a good Princess go Bad
But we’ll leave Miami to fall apart, And heal LakerBlog wounds or at least make a start
No family agrees on everything, Not even a family that has sixteen soon seventeen Rings
But instead of each other on which we beat, Turn that anger to Princess Jimmy & the Heat
This is going to be a long wild trip, Wacth Phil, Fish and Kobe as they let her rip.
If you have not done so as of yet, Make sure you Stock up on plenty of Vodka & percoset
Not that there is a chance in hell I say, Of any NBA team beating Freaking LA
But if Phils Lectures are any indication, We are in for one wild ride Laker Nation
So we need all hands on deck, We need to keep emotions against each other in check
Nothing more I can say or do, I’m mamba24 an unrecovered Lakerholic, How about You?

Mamba24....Put me on the Laker Tom Bandwagon! Please don't go. You are one of us older bloggers with a lot of basketball knowledge!!!!!Remember about 3 or 4 weeks ago when we had our 1100 plus posts in 2 days. That was a lot of fun without any malicious attacks on anyone!! Soon pre season starts...we are all so ready! Go Lakers!

Oh and Good Morning to you too, jastamamba24

MM, you missed my point again. Why don't you visit the archives and see what Kbros used to do before in their extra.extra, there are plenty of resource materials to highlight that are not necessarily "news". Are biographies or wikipedia of players are worthy of news or written history about them...why don't you just expand that area with players insight too? This is the time to ask Artest, Fisher, Brown....are you reading the Lakers Blog? If you contact them, you'll get a response. MM, you are in the inside, we don't have the powers to get through them. Secondly, you are the supreme manager of this blog overseeing all the emails and handles of posters, you can tell who is legit and who is not? If you further read them, you can tell what is dangerous and what is free speech?

Yes, you are moderating but it takes hours and hours before you can update the blog, kbros moderated this site but it takes only minutes to edit posts. You can put a time frame that posting will be every 30 minutes and any minutes that you want. Don't let bloggers guess when is the next posting? A celtic fan posted here, fine, do you have to publish a post consist of one character "1" duh!!! c'mon MM I praised you when you deserved it but that is not a post at all in any shape or form.

You allowed poster here to rule your blog, allowed them to post a dozen times or in multiplicity of posts of one man show, that is abuse of posting or shall we say abuse of process taking advantage automatic posting. As a moderator, you have to put down the hammer and STOP all this nonsense! Believe me, I'm criticizing your style for your own sake to save your blog because it is also our own blog. You guys there at LA Times including Mike James and Co. are sleeping on the switch. Not only LakerTom, Mamba24 or me are getting disgruntled, lately you've taken extreme measures, it is either too slow or too fast without any supervision.

Edwin - I'll agree to disagee. The last two posts were considered "news" with assessing the ticket demand for the season opener and Bow Wow's bet about Miami. It may not be the most consequential, but it's news nonetheless. I do agree with your point about wanting to always explore enterprising ideas.

As far as the moderation, I have put it back so I'm monitoring comments. Many expressed a want for the insta posting even with the risks involved. That sentiment has since changed because of the trolls so I'm making that adjustment so it's under control.

I don't mind you criticizing or disagreeing. I welcome it and I've always liked your honesty because I always knew both positive and negative feedback was always genuine. I'm just stating my point of view.

MM

During times of stress when we turn on each other, it is good for the leaders to create a distraction and turn the attention toward something else. It happens at work, in friendships and in families (I come from an Italian Clan!). It's in our DNA that we get restless and frustrated.

Ladies and Gents here are the examples of off season distractions I have seen here that were a welcome distraction:

The Epic "Cats Versus Dogs" posting (Jon K saying that Cats had Alien like powers and infested/infected human thought and actions...LMAO!)

The Seinfeld 1130 post day that Mamba24 orchestrated. It was sheer fun and frolick and anything was game for posting on that special day. There was no infighting and the energy was awesome. Interestingly enough, there wasn't much Basketball talk.

With MM on vacation, he may not be able to "Manage" the blog and update the posting so that the conversation flows appropriately. Edwins' posts have been excellent and as always, he is showing leadership and doing his part. However, MM is just one guy! How can we possibly expect him to be able to manage this place the way we need him to?

So, we lose insta-posting, there is nothing of note going on in Lakerland, MM is on vacation for a few weeks, and Laker Tom is taking some time off. I think I will take this time to begin visiting The Celtics Blog. Maybe I can learn something, make some new friends (and some new enemies) and keep an eye out for when things normalize here.

P.S. I really like Laker Tom. I hope he doesn't leave for good.

P.S.S. Good to see Mamba24 here and active again. Sight for sore eyes I'll tell you.

Hey guys we just have a post up. This is the first of what I hope to be an ongoing series featuring various members of the Lakers blog community. I think that's needed more than ever. That will serve as the only post of the day as I will be spending time with family for most of the day. The comments will still be on moderation so this situation gets under control so all I ask is for your patience and understanding.

MM

I'm entirely with you and in agreement with everything you just said. That was my only point about Fish in my somewhat awkward comparison to Pippen. Leadership, chemistry, trust and heart. He's always been there for Kobe and that has made the Lakers a better team. It's a big reason why they are a championship team. From blogging in other Lakers forums there has always been an overwhelming underappreciation of him, to put it mildly, yet he continues to shut everyone up and now, after all these years, fans are finally starting to get it. When he got on the plane to head to Miami, all the fans who used to want to replace Fish in the starting lineup with Shannon Brown or Farmar suddenly had a sinking feeling in their stomachs. That's why I say that while we've been waiting for Kobe's "Pippen," he's been here all along.

I am an NBA history buff and not (justa) Lakers "homer." In fact, I believe that the Cheat will be a juggernaut and likely a dynasty once they achieve chemistry, especially as they add more pieces over time. Also, I viewed Scottie Pippen as the second best floor player in the NBA during the Bulls dynasty, ahead of Clyde Drexler and Charles Barkley (even though he was a power forward, he was really a floor player in my view). I take nothing away from Pippen and view him as one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history as well.

I posted this previously, but if anyone is an in depth understanding of the pre-1980's NBA, I HIGHLY recommend David Halberstam's "The Breaks of the Game," which follows the 1979-80 Portland Trail Blazers (published in 1981), but weaves in so much NBA history from player and team comparisons, to detailing the Kermit Washigton-Rudy T incident, to how players went from underpaid minions to spoiled fat cats, to how referees are just like they are today. What I love about it the most is that it brings you up to date until 1980 and you can fill in the blanks after that.

Have a great day!

Please.....Help us LakertomKinobe your our only hope! The Empire.......

Dear LakerTom,

You've always been one of my favorite posters. Your postings are often insightful and well-written (and that compliment comes from a former journalist). I've always thought you would excel writing for a real sports news organization, and not just posting on a blog. Your postings are often better than some of the articles one reads on the major sports sections. I've learned a lot from reading your postings. It would be a big loss to this community if you were to never contribute again to the Laker blog. Please re-consider your decision.

Seriously, do all of you have lives or is the sum total of your existence spent drinking the purple kool-aid? This is, after all, only a freakin' basketball team and a psycho one at that.

Try decaf, boys. Nothing is worth the kind of wild eyed devotion you seem to espouse towards this wayward group of overpaid, egomaniacal ball bouncers. Or you could hold a contest to see who replaces the coach as the next front office "boyfriend." Name another team where that's a possible topic...
