The best tweets on LeBron James' decision and Dan Gilbert's letter

54843787

I had tweeted during LeBron James' embarrassing one-hour special that the "only reason why the buildup to LeBron's decision is captivating to me is that's made for plenty of great Twitter insults." And boy were there plenty regarding James' one-hour special as well as the open letter Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert drafted after James announced he was "taking his talents to South Beach."

Before I highlight the memorable tweets, just a quick note. We will be hosting a chat today at 5 for the Lakers' summer league game against Detroit on NBA TV. For those planning for the weekend, there's also a game on Saturday against the Nuggets on 3. So hop on by to check out if anyone seems to have a chance to crack the roster.

Now onto the tweets:

"Recall taking LeBron & Maverick Carter to drive-thru at McDonald's and dinner at Applebees in '02 in my crappy rental car. Times change." -- GrantWahl (Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl)

"dexterfishmore RT @stefanfatsis Broussard reports it's either Cleveland, Miami, Chicago or NY. That's just some good old-fashioned shoe-leather reporting." -- Silver Screen and Roll's DexterFishmore)

"Just think, Lakers fans: If @RealLamarOdom signed with the Heat last summer there never would have been a Miami Thrice formation" -- mcten (ESPN Los Angeles' Dave McMenamin)

"Dan Gilbert is so over the top, he's making LeBron look like the victim." -- AndrewSiciliano (710 ESPN's Andrew Siciliano)

The Clippers that is LOL

"It couldn't have been THAT humbling an experience, LeBron." -- ESPNLandOLakers (ESPN Los Angeles' Andrew Kamenetzky)

Seriously! He's constanly making this mistake. When is someone going to pull him aside and explain the definition of the word HUMBLE to this egomaniac. It is somewhat entertaining in its irony, I suppose. Either way....Ugh!

Go Lakers!!!

Hahaha yes Jon Barry talks too much...

James should never be a Laker...he is just not Laker material...

Lakers still have the Biggest 3 with Kobe-Pau-Bynum...and we have the rest of the team with an Artest, LO, Fish, (yes Fish),and Blake...Still the strongest roster out there...especially in the West...

Opening night should be Lakers vs Boston, and Miami vs Cavs...Christmas Day - Lakers vs Heat, Magic vs Celtics...

Is the Thunder the team will be our main competition this year? Never thought I would hear that...

There is a rumor going around, that there will be a new 'Western Trio'...and it's not an omelet at Denny's...

Rumor is CP3, DWill, and Durant are planning to do the same thing the Miami trio did 3 yrs from now...

They will be called the 'Oklahoma Three'...;)

Due the the competition with Kobe over the last few years, the not shaking hands, and even the video of LeBron punking that towel boy, I never really had a true hatred for this guy until yesterday.

Wow! No matter how priveledged you've been, how do you do that to your city? Wow.

Go Lakers!!!

OK Laker fans it's time to PANIC!

Forget Fisher, Lakers now need to get CP3 or Deron Williams or a super-duper PG to counter the monstrous SuperHeat...

Yikes!

************************************************

Are you Serious?!?!?!?!

You're obviously not a Laker Fan.

The ONLY way we would need to panic was if Kobe was one of the Trifecta, but, oh wait, he's on our team with the rest of the fellas that, now correct me if I'm wrong, have been to the FINALS the last 3 years with Back to Back Titles to show for it.

Panic???

I hope you choke on that word.

As we recall this farce, let us remember the immortal words of Proverbs 16:18:

"PRIDE GOES BEFORE DESTRUCTION. AND A HAUGHTY SPIRIT BEFORE A FALL."

The Bible never lies. Ask Paul Pierce and the rest of the 2009-2010 Boston Celtics.

So it looks like New York is going to sign Ray Felton. If so, they're not too bad at the PG position (Felton/Toney Douglas). Actually, after seeing him play a lot toward the end of last season, Douglas is one draft pick I'm bummed the Lakers sold off. He would be useful to them right now.

So Knicks now have (assuming the Felton deal goes through) Amare, Gallinari, Chandler, Felton, Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, and Kelenna Azubuike. Lots of good role players, but only one All-Star.

And they should have enough cap space next summer to pitch to Carmelo.

I'd say they're already better with the roster they have than they have been in years. Add Carmelo to that (and maybe Tony Parker) and suddenly they'd have a pretty decent team.

Wouldn't it be ironic if LeBronze went to Miami and then over the next four years, the Lakers beat Boston, Chicago, New York, and Cleveland for titles, while Miami never made the finals.

SO...for the record...Dan GIlbert deserves this. He has done nothin but align himself with people that dont understand how to treat Human Beings. Yo Dan....Kwame KIlpatrick?? 200k? That investment didnt pan out huh? well.......neither did this one. I know this hurts. Just ask the Bankers that you fired about loyalty. Some of us would driven through a wall for you bro.... you get what you give.

We could loose Mbenga, Powell and Morrison to HEAT. I am pretty sure they will want their championship experience.

Hey guys, I shared this on the last post. The Decision kind of reminds me of this

MM

Now Otis Smith (GM of Orlando) is dissing LeBron -

"Asked if James' move to Miami will cause a power shift in the NBA, Smith responded, "Is Kobe retiring?""

Taxes. It was about taxes. LeShmuck is not taking less money.

Actually it is also about tipping. I knew Tiger was a jerk long before anything came about him. How? He is a cheap. When you are super rich and still cheap it is a sign at how you devalue every human being around you, the essence of a creep, jerk. Now I heard that about Tiger from a lot of people calling talk shows.

I do not know if LeShmuck is cheap but some posters in a different thread said he was. If you don't tip when a roll of $100 bills coming off you like it was nothing would mean nothing, it says something about how the people mean nothing to you. If LeShmuck is indeed cheap amongst everything else...just another indication of the type of person he really is.

Some thoughts...

1. I've analyzed this thing already, and I still have the Lakers winning it all again next year, assuming everyone stays healthy and they have home court. The Lakers have no serious competition in the West. And no one in the east can beat the Lakers in a 7 game series, including Miami.

2. 3 single rich celebrity ball players in South Beach...I'm betting on a sex scandal involving one or more Heat players.

3. The so called Super Dream Team will have a huge target on their backs. I don't think there's a team now that people will hate more than the Heat, and this includes the Lakers. Not only will other teams want to beat the Heat just to show them up, but the media will be dogging them all year whenever they falter.

4. Jon Barry is the biggest panty waste in the sports media. I hate this bastard with all that I have.

5. How does Boston, a proud and gritty team, handle all this talk of this Miami team? Who will challenge the Lakers? Will the Heat perform under intense pressure to succeed?

Man, it's going to be one hell of a season next year...

Kevin Durant says being able to stay in Oklahoma City long-term "is a great feeling" and that the Thunder's "best years are ahead."

Kevin Durant is the Anti-LeBron.

I hope the Lakers can manage to steal him when his contract comes up.

My Favorite....

LeBronadict Arnold!!!

HaHaHa!!!

ESPN lists their top 15 remaining free agents - Two Laker PGs on the list:

1. Shaq
2. Luis Scola
3. Mike Miller
4. Josh Childress (I had forgotten about him - Clippers should make an offer)
5. Richard Jefferson
6. Ray Felton (close to signing with the Knicks)
7. Tyrus Thomas (just signed with Charlotte I think)
8. Udonis Haslem (Heat can't afford to keep him)
9. Al Harrington
10. Luke Ridnour
11. Derek Fisher
12. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
13. Jordan Farmar (and they actually list Lakers as a possible destination)
14. Kyle Lowry
15. Kyle Korver

LeBron, prepare thyself to be under a magnifying glass!

Did I mention that everyone in Cleveland is devastated by The Decision? Did I also mention that Clevelanders are very vindictive people with long memories?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

GO LAKERS!!!

Hey, If Fish actually took more money to play elsewhere, I wonder if Farmar would be willing to re-sign with the Lakers. He does know the triangle (though it chafes him a bit), but with only Blake as a PG on the team, he'd at least have a chance to compete for the starting job.

Probably would depend on what other teams offered him (both in terms of role and money)

>>>Forget Fisher, Lakers now need to get CP3 or Deron Williams or a
>>>super-duper PG to counter the monstrous SuperHeat...

Well, actually the don't really NEED to. They'd beat the Super3 plus 9 scrubs no problem - it's going to take Miami a year or two to gather up enough decent role players to even get past Orlando or Boston, let alone challenge the Lakers.

But if New Orleans keeps losing money hand over fist, watch for another miracle trade by Mitch to get CP3 on the Lakers. Right now I'd put the odds at 100,000 to 1, but if New Orleans is sinking like the titanic, they'll dump CP3 and his fat contract quicker than you can spit.

I don't think Orlando or Boston should get to knock Miami out of the playoffs next spring.

I'd like to see Chicago or New York or Cleveland humble them with a first round upset. Just to see the look on LeBronze's face as he walks off the floor after not shaking their hands.

Laker Tom...

You really nailed it with one of your comments on an earlier thread. The entire free agency landscape was geared towards being able to compete with the Lakers and to a lesser extent, the Celtics.

Wade, Bosh and LeBrawn all came to the realization that they might never even sniff the O'Brien unless they united. I guess next year after the Lakers 3peat, CP3 and Howard will be trying to take "their talents to South Beach" as well.

Brian Shaw looks real sharp in this. He avoided the maelstrom that's sure to come in Cleveland. I feel for Byron Scott. Looks like he stepped into a big pile of dog doodoo.

LeBrawn and Gilbert both come off as extremely small in all of this. I guess money can't but class.

typo...

I guess money can't "buy" class.

"Amare, Gallinari, Chandler, Felton, Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, and Kelenna Azubuike. Lots of good role players, but only one All-Star."

Not bad at all for 7 seconds or less fast break team.

the popular old Suns amare, marion, diaw, nash, bell, barbosa were nobodies before they made a name for themselves in D'antoni's system...

Knicks aas MIKE D said ar ein WIN NOW, unlike creta cap space the last two years.

Here is an excellent scenerio for the Lakers.. If Shannon decides to comeback for one more year, trade him as well as Sasha for James Posey... N.O. wants to offload some of their contacts to get under the Salary Cap, his owed another 17M or so for the next 3 years... I like this line up for the next 3 years for the Lakers. "Got to give to get"

Fisher/Blake
Kobe/Posey
Artest/Posey/Luke/ Ebanks
Pau/Odom
Bynum/Pau/Mbenga

I Love Posey (clutch shooter, excellent defender at the 2 and 3 spot as well as veteran savy)

Fisher must be waiting an offer from Chicago. He will be a good fit for a 8mil 2 years contract, PG back up role player. He brings championship experience for the aspiring BULLS contending in the EAST Finals.

Fisher and Rose can also play together in crucial mintues of the playoffs. Rose is a slasher while, Fish spots up.

Lakers should be prepared to loose Fisher in the free agency. What is the back up plan? Steve Blake can start, who backs him up?

Hey UTZ........ How about "He who exaults himself shall be humbled" He who HUMBLES himself shall be EXAULTED".?

We need to worry more about OKC then LCD.

Marc Stein reporting that Korver has just agreed to join the Bulls @ 3yrs for $15mil. Bulls building a nice team.

Looks like Mike Miller is signing with the Heat:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/417855-nba-free-agency-rumors-michael-beasley-dealt-mike-miller-to-the-heat

I'd rather have T-Mac, re-sign Shannon Brown or a Defense Minded 2-3 like Tony Allen than Mike Miller.

Gerald Green might even turn out to be a rose in the manure pile.

MBC,

Would not like to see Miller on the Heat, would make them even better. Mitch baby, step up!

So we've signed Blake. Uh, think we better do a little MORE!

Dang it, we (NYY) just let Texas grab Lee! So I ma saying, we (LAL) need an outside shooter to make us unbeatable! Come on Mitch (Doc)!

Each person, including Lebron, should have the right to make their own decision to work and play anywhere they choose to do so. This is USA. I was surprise to see a "owner" of Cavs go so negative when this is a free enterprise market. Lebron does not "owe" them anything. He is a person first (not just a player). The Cavs owner is really just upset over the $$$$ Cavs and city will "miss" because "King James"will not be in Ohio. Just to let you know, I like watching Lebron and Wade, but I am a Lakers fan!

You missed the best one, from Kelly Dwyer:
RT @KDonhoops: Dan Gilbert has made the Cleveland Cavaliers' website look like a GeoCities page from 1997.

LEBRON BLINKS & DESTROYS HIS LEGACY !!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a single disastrous and misguided evening, LeBron James blinked and basically destroyed the legacy that he and ESPN had carefully crafted for him over the last 7 years as the greatest player in the NBA, fleeing his home town Cleveland Cavaliers only to grab the championship coat tails of Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, a puzzling move that great players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan would never have done.
~
Coming on the heels of his mysterious “disappearing act” for the second straight year in the NBA playoffs, you would have expected an elite franchise player like LeBron James to have embraced the challenge of restoring greatness to the Chicago Bulls or New York Knicks, both major market franchises with highly storied histories, instead of joining a fantasy dream team where he will always be second fiddle to the Heat’s Dwayne Wade.
~
More than anything else, I think LeBron’s choice of the Heat reflects what has been a major loss of confidence in his personal abilities to lead a team to an NBA championship over the last two frustrating seasons where he won regular season MVP awards and led the Cavs to the best regular season record only to fail in the playoffs. Just like the national sports media has realized, LeBron James now realizes that he will never be Kobe Bryant.
~
Watching LeBron on ESPN, I almost felt sorry for the guy but he is getting what you would expect when you surround yourself with old high school buddies and homies rather than professional managers and advisors. The guy really has no idea what this is all about. You can almost sense Wade and Bosh being embarrassed at LeBron’s antics and efforts to make himself relevant and then turning rabbit and running to Miami for help.
~
The “Decision” should have been a milestone for LeBron’s career and not the millstone that I think it will be. How can you claim to be the King when you’ve basically admitted that you can’t carry a team on your back the way that Kobe can? How can you claim to be the greatest when you end up being a follower rather than leader? How can you expect to create a legacy as the greatest when you’re not even the leader of your own team?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TOM

Some of you guys are underestimating this super team. Wade led a bunch of scrubs to 50 wins. Now he'll have Lebron, Bosh and Mike Miller! This nucleus surrounded by scrubs is still an instant contender. Add in Raja Bell, and a few low cost veterans, and this team will challenge the Lakers next season. I'm not suggesting that they will beat the Lakers, but the Lakers will need a healthy Bynum to win. In other words, next season's threepeat might rest on the health of our center, who has been hobbled for the past three playoffs in a row. If that doesn't send shivers down your spine, than you are simply being a homer, and not being realistic.

And please stop with the references to the Lakers' big three. The Lakers are a big TWO (Kobe and Pau), and have been the big two for the past three years. Unless Bynum miraculously gets healthy in next year's playoffs, or he is traded for a star that is healthy, this team will never have a big 3. The Lakers will have more depth, more experience, better coaching, and of course, Kobe, but let's not underestimate the impact of a Wade / Lebron duo.

Mitch Kupchack has done a wonderful job the past few years, but the stakes just got higher, and it will be on Mitch to re-up the stakes.

By the way, after years of regular postings of secret agent reports to Laker Nation...

I would like to remind everyone and all my naysayers that I WAS 100% RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME!!!

I TOLD YOU THIS WAS WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AND IT DID!!!

LeBron's a jerk.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Laker Tom,

Excellent post.

Did I mention that in Miami the order of importance is:

1. Miami Dolphins
2. University of Miami football
3. Florida Marlins
4. Miami Heat

He's going to a place where there's no pressure. Great players like Kobe, Jordan, Magic and Bird all thrived under pressure. LeJerk wilts under it.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

I'm not sure the Mike Miller thing is a done deal.

Latest from Hoops Hype is this:

"Mike Miller told me that nothing is final with MIA, but his agent is speaking with Heat right now about joining the SuperFriends."

Remember, if all three of teh SuperFriends are getting the max, then Miami has no cap space. In fact, they have to dump Beasley for nothing just to GET enough cap space to sign all three for the max.

So who is giving up 5 million a year so they can sign Miller? LeBron? Wade? Bosh>?

The last time there was a lock out and major rule changes, it was in part to prevent the accumulation of power the way Jerry West did it.

What will they come up with this time?

I actually LIKE the idea of players going where they want to go and talking to each other about it before they decide. That's exactly what I did twice as an athlete and would expect paid professionals to do the same.... I just don't like who all is doing it and when they're doing it (Heat, during Kobe era)

How will they stop the accumulation of power this time around? No more MLE? I really think the league is sniffing the wrong tree and they should focus more on performance pay rather than revenue percentages. But whatever...

And if this is PJ's last year, then why shy away from players that may not totally thrive in the triangle?

But I'd almost guarantee that Miami will get Raja Bell to sign. He reportedly wants to play in Florida, where he's from. So unless Orlando manages to offer him more money, I'd say expect him to back Wade up off the Miami bench.

"He's going to a place where there's no pressure. Great players like Kobe, Jordan, Magic and Bird all thrived under pressure. LeJerk wilts under it.'

The most coveted free agent in the history of the NBA with ONE HOUR SPECIAL just to announce his decision on national television, that alone is pressure made by himself to himself.

So, let us not kid ourself. Lebron will put himself the pressure where ever he goes. He is the TWO TIME MVP of the last two years and he is only 25 years old. Only Kareem-Abdul-Jabbar has achieved this.

Kwame would never put himself in ONE HOUR SPECIAL on ESPN. That is too much pressure.

LTLF,

Mike Miller sounds like a done deal, at least according to Miller's father:

http://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/18124416811

Can you imagine Wade And Lebron attacking the basket, putting the ball on the floor. Does Lakers has this type of talent other than Kobe's already slowing jog to the rim.

Wade and Lebron has complete game, both of them. Can do it all in any angle of the basketball court just like Kobe. In other words they have MJ and KOBE teamed up in Miami Heat.

I am not going to take that lightly not even for our mighty Lakers. Lakers prepares for the Finals, which means C's, Heat, Bulls, Mavs, Thunder, Magic should be in their radar. That is being prepared and honest.

Lakers management always prepares and studies possible LAKERS MATCH UP in the Finals. Wade and Lebron is definetely a concern/problem to come in the near future.

If Fisher goes to Miami, I will trash him on this blog and elsewhere until he retires. As far as Bell, I don't want that snake on this Laker team. Let him go to Miami; all the more reason for me to hate that damned team.

I still say Lebron and the Miami Heat come out of this thing as the most hated entities in the NBA.

That's the problem of kids nowadays, they get into NBA from high school handled multi million dollar deals, becomes a public figure but does not understand the meaning of Human Behavior Management. They know how to play basketball but they lacked ethics, respect of the people that made what they are, and lastly impulsive in decision making. If lebron had the intention of leaving the Cavaliers, no need of grandstanding, all he needs to do is meet the owner, the team and explain to the people of Cleveland why he's leaving. That's it, no need of propaganda by creating a tweeting brigade. Not all social media works well when it comes to people-to-people relationship. Go back to the basic understanding of the right conduct and etiquette. Well, is there is such thing as ethics in this day and age? Isn't it ethics is synonymous to expedient politics created by PR men, media moguls, ratings and corporate honchos? For every Lebron success, there are thousand Cleveland citizens failures, however that is part of life. Yeah, the whole one hour drama yesterday was donated to Boys and Girls Club of America, it would have been great if Lebron's accountants would not use that donation as a tax shield. When a rich man gives you something, he gets something back in return. When a poor man gives you something, you really expect nothing from him except offering you his body and soul.

The saga of Lebron James is a moral lesson to all young successful millionaires.

>>>How will they stop the accumulation of power this time around? No more MLE?

What they're talking about is a hard salary cap and no exceptions.

So if you're over the cap, you get no MLE, no Bi-Annual, nothing. You have to fill out your roster with minimal salary players.

Also shorter length maximum contracts - no more 6 year contracts to guys like Luke Walton or Jerome James. Maybe 4 years for your own free agent or 3 years for a free agent from another team.

They'd have to grandfather in existing contracts - the players association would never agree to forcing existing contracts to be reduced.

But the hard salary cap is the main thing. On the positive side, that means the Lakers won't have to worry about adding to the luxury tax. On the down side, forget about them bringing in any more big name players (or even medium name players) until Kobe retires.

BTW - the hard salary cap would hit the Heat MUCH harder than the Lakers. Lakers are set with Kobe, Pau, Lamar, Artest, Bynum, and Blake for the next few years. Miami would have a hard time drawing any other players as good as Blake or Lamar if they could only pay about a million each.

JackJ,

"Lebron does not "owe" them anything."

Wrong.

Cleveland and the Cavs gave everything they could to this guy BECAUSE he built up this sense of drama and urgency about this free agency. LeBron built a circus around himself and Ohio did everything they could to appease him.

He owes them at least the dignity of not breaking their hearts in a one-hour infomercial selling narcissism. Cleveland sucks, but it's still a community and it does have some reasons for pride. These people have been through so much heartbreak over the last 60 years, the last thing they need is another disappointment heightened through spectacle. LeBron doing so was nothing short of callous.

Cleveland just became a much more cynical and negative community and BELIEVE ME it is a terribly cynical and negative community. They didn't need this. Not at all.

As my father said to me on the phone yesterday, "Cleveland just got humiliated AGAIN, but this time in front of a billion people. It's just not fair."

And he's right.

Not cool.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Oh, this LeBron James mania....everytime I see Dan Gilbert in the internet . Iam thinking Iam part of this circus.

"In a single disastrous and misguided evening, LeBron James blinked and basically destroyed the legacy that he and ESPN had carefully crafted for him over the last 7 years as the greatest player in the NBA, fleeing his home town Cleveland Cavaliers only to grab the championship coat tails of Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, a puzzling move that great players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan would never have done."

Lakertom,

That is easy to say now. But 5 years fast forward and Lebron has won 4 consecutive rings and 3 straight Finals MVP and still at the age of 30, WHAT THEN?

Wade and James are probaly the TWO best WING players to ever play side by side. Other than MJ and Pippen, who else can match this duo? Do I need to remind MJ and Pippen won 6, which could easily be EIGHT STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

I'm just saying. This is a real.

Lakers need to Prepare and be prepared.

People need to stop awarding the Heat with consecutive titles prematurely...

There is more to winning than a roster, I don't care if its James and the wingman in the business...

Let's see how they play and execute before crowning them champs, especially for multiple years...

Are the legit...with the big 3, yes...will they win it all...not right away...they still need to be a team, and jell as one...

I feel the road will be rocky, before they can come together and be fluid...

Meanwhile, the total opposite with the Lakers...we are ready for another legitimate run for the title...and we are still the team to beat...no matter what the bookmakers say...

#17 Coming Up...

" a puzzling move that great players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan would never have done."

That was then, 80's and 90's. That is past. Who knows waht these legends would do now, IN THIS TIME, THE PRESENT! TIme is different, change always happens.

Besides, did MJ or Bird or Magic played in MINNESOTA, CLEVELAND, OR NEW ORLEANS?

Chicago, Boston, Los Angles has a different meaning.

Didn't ABDUL JABBAR moved out of MILWAUKEE, would you not like Jabbar to be with the LAKERS and 5 rings?

Would you not LIKE SHAQ in LAKERS uniform and 3 RINGS.

If KEVIN DURANT moves to LAKERS IN THREE YEARS, would you prevent that from happening? I thought so..

Somebody said we're going to lose our Championship players like Mbenga, Morrison, Powell, Farmar, Brown, I believe they are part of the 2nd unit in the last season. While the other three are permanent bench warmers. Did we really lose anything or gain something by getting abled replacements. Like for example, gaining Blake and losing Farmar - you can bring this to any bank that this is an upgrade. I want Brown back but if he can get more with other teams then good riddance! We want Fisher back because of his other talents aside from basketball, his leadership, his fighting spirit of standing against any foe, his monumental contributions even in the twilight of his career. If he decides to go to another team, is that the end of the Lakers? Definitely NO. Precisely, my own standard is loyalty to Purple and Gold on what it represents. Individuals whom we called our players have their own motivations, ambitions that could be contrary to that standard. Sometime in the future those needs changes based on their own satisfaction. However, the purple and gold will always stay in LA today, tomorrow and in the future when we are all gone.

Howard to James (after watching Bird eat their lunch), "Who was that guy".

"I have no idea".

EXACTLY!

The class, competitiveness, and drive that Bird, Magic, M.J., Kobe embody will forever be unknown qualities to James.

Sky's not falling.. and the game starts NOW on NBA tv..

not saying you should prematurely award the heat multiple titles, but let's face it, this is NOT Lakers 2004. These guys are in their PRIME with like 10 years left in the tank. Did GP have 10 years left? Did Malone? No way, they were in the twilight.

If the superfriends do not win a title out of this, it will be considered the greatest bust in sports history.

I love the Lakers and I think any team with Kobe, PJ and some solid role players will have a chance, but that chance just went down massively. MASSIVELY.
A mediocre big 3 was enough to steal 1 title from Kobe, PJ, et al... now just think of what would be possible with the Superfriends.

Now more than ever, we need the Hall of Justice so that we can detrhone the Bizarro superhereos.

Relating back, Kareem WON a Ring at Milwaukee before being traded to LA.

My Chrismas Day dream schedule 9:ooam Clippers@ New York 11:30 Chicago@ Oklahoma 2:00pm Heat@Lakers 4:30 Boston@San Antonio 7:00pm Orlando@Nuggests. That's my wish list, GO LaQueen, I mean Go Lakers.

I think most of us understand the "King of No Rings" going to Miami, but the way he did it, kicking Cav's in the gut with that Dog & Pony show was very disrespectful.

Tim,

"I love the Lakers and I think any team with Kobe, PJ and some solid role players will have a chance, but that chance just went down massively. MASSIVELY."

I agree with you on this.

My hopes is high on BYNUM. I think the HEAT"S first priority is to get a big that can BANG BODIES with Bynum. Bosh can counter Gasol and Odom but not Bynum.

What it all says about the "King of No Rings" is that he's saying that he can't get it done like Kobe, Magic, and MJ. He needs at least 2 more Superstars around him to succeed. If his Cav's team was so bad, why did they have the best regular season record the past couple years. The Cav's did all they could, they brought in Williams, Shaq, and Jaimison (SP).

Staple24,

"Wade and James are probaly the TWO best WING players to ever play side by side. Other than MJ and Pippen, who else can match this duo? Do I need to remind MJ and Pippen won 6, which could easily be EIGHT STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!"

What LakerTom was really saying not all the glitters are gold? It has to be refined, reprocessed into a finish product of gold bars to have value. Lebron, Wade and Bosh have their own individual strengths as a strong fiber. They have to weave each other synergistically tested by time to attain success. LakerTom has witnessed Baylor, West and Chamberlain, the best players of the past yet did not win as the great triumvirate. There was Malone & Stocton, the best duo but could not win the Championship. It took Kobe and Shaq five years in order to reach the pinnacle of success, therefore premature adulation based on their paper standard or statistically sound are nothing but statistics. They have to win games, win Conferences, reach the Finals before making valid conclusions.

However, you are partly right they all got the best resume and let's see whether it works.

With regards to the Lakers, what can they really do except to trade some people? Are there any takers for Sasha, for Walton? The answer is Nada, therefore let's make the chemistry work and see if Mitch could make miracles on what he has. People were all clamoring for big names such as CP3, Koerver, Raja Bell, Tony Allen - will they all accept $ 1.7M or Vet Min. We all gotta to follow the NBA Law and be realistic with what we are asking, we are not blogging for the first time, we have learned from LTLF and Allnet all these CBA rules which apply to all teams.

Staples 24,

Nice counter points all around. But what if LeBron and Wade win no titles or 1 or 2 together, than what? It can go both ways.

Also, the Lakers have ALWAYS managed to stay relevant, competitive and the premier modern day organization of the NBA. Sure, the Heat look great, but they still need to play the games and prove it when it matters most. I'm not one of those guys who turns a blind eye away from our competition, because like you, I like to keep it real.

Lakers have been the most consistent winner in the NBA over the past 3 decades, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

My take again:

Kobe-Wade, slight adv to Lakers
Pau-Bosh, slight adv to Lakers
Artest-James, adv to Heat
Bynum-?, adv to Lakers
Blake-?, even
Bench-? slight adv to Lakers
Jackson-Spoelstra- adv to Lakers

If we play the Heat in the Finals, I think it comes down to the bench and Drew as difference makers.

Jon K,

"He owes them at least the dignity of not breaking their hearts in a one-hour infomercial selling narcissism.

As my father said to me on the phone yesterday, "Cleveland just got humiliated AGAIN, but this time in front of a billion people. It's just not fair."

You are right on Jon K. In this regard Lebron and ESPN truly SUCKS! It should have been done in less drama, a more humane way for the City and its fans and its owners.

Also don't think we should count out the Bulls, especially if they sign a Miller or Korver.

LakerTom, Fellow Lakeshow Fans,

Have enjoyed your continuous posts and insight about everything Lakers as well as the rest of the blog contributors...

Hmmm...With the Lakers being way over the cap, is it possible for Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, and Odom (either collectively, individually, or any combination for that matter) to RESTRUCTURE their contracts to help sign Fish and well as add a few more pieces to their ongoing championship run? Defer salaries maybe?

If so, would any change in contract language have to be endorsed by the Lakers front office, NBA office and the players union first? Just wondering....

With the Miami TRIANGLE in play, it's CLEAR that the road to the three-peat got more INTERESTING in terms of the Lakers stance with their cap concerns in signing players.

However the Lakers FO gets it done through financial creativity or straight-up-risk, I'm confident that they will get the deal done with Fish and others despite the luxury tax threshold.

My concern as a fan is that Fish (who is a vital cog in terms of leadership and a player Miami will certainly consider) is still out there with no DEAL in place as well as other free agents (dwindling by the day in availability) the Lakers are interested in bringing in...TIME is of the essence thanks to the Heat....So is the REALITY of spending MONEY! I'm sure Mr. Buss will figure it all out...but to what EXTENT?

Laker pride through ALL and ANY ADVERSITY! RESULT? Back to Back NBA Championships for 2009 and 2010...and a Three-peat in sight.

Anyone want to comment on my Match-up post? Yea or Nea?

Staples24, are you even a Laker fan? Surely does not sound like it in your recent posts.

LakerTom - fantastic post. I agree with everything you stated, wholeheartedly.

the "King of all Choker"'s classless act is no bigtime news, he'll always be like that, what's bigtime is our waiting on Derek Fisher, any news on the Big Fish?

This is the best news I got this week!!!

Well dont get me wrong but look at it this way:

1. `sup with Shaq? Is he still getting that 5th ring?

2. Lebron, Wade and Bosh??? Those three players + some kids out of the streets still have to play for the first time together, sharing one ball, getting through 82 games together, getting to the playoffs, passing by TEAMS like Chicago, Celtics, Orlando, Atlanta just to mention a couple...

3. I wouldnt be more happy than to know that the Lakers now have to focus on themselves only other than what other teams will be focus on.

4. Heat (wade) is so happy because he believes he now has KG and R.Allen LOL... I really deeeeeeeep in my heart wish him good luck! :)

Lets fasten out seat bealts and watch the beginning of the end of the guy that the entire media wanted to be better than MJ and Kobe!

Maxxx now comes with triple x to make sure the LAXXXERS will laxxx (lash) all those "teams" on the road to get that threepeat!

No Pau, Bynum and Kobe cannot restructure to fit Fisher. We offer him a deal, which is doubled because of Luxury Tax, which he will most likely accept. I expect it to be 2 years 3.5 - 4 mill per year. 2nd year might be team option.

and yes Staples24 are you seriously this much of bandwagoner?

Yes, The Decision has been made, but this is a hilarious article mocking the process

LeBron James announces that he will buy the Miami Heat, endorse the New York Knicks, marry two of the LA Clippers’ Spirit Dancers in a Utah ceremony in August, become Executive Vice President of Mining and Distribution for Polyus Gold (NJ Nets’ owner Mikhail Prokhorov’s gold empire) and play basketball part-time for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Read the FUNNY article here:

Miami heat will be the most hated team in the NBA come next season, I guarantee you that. You can take it to the bank DAN....

I'm not sure I like this as a Laker fan. We almost lost to the aging Celtics this year, and no way do they have the kind of talent that MIA has right now. Garnett was horrible most of the series, Allen couldn't make a shot after Game 2, and Pierce was just garbage the whole series. Rondo wasn't great all the time, and their bench is mediocre. Can you imagine what the Heat will be like with just some average role players like what the Celtics had? This is not good news for us, especially since Kobe is declining and Pau showed his weaknesses again in the Finals after Game 2. Artest is a liability most of the time and there's no way he can guard Lebron. Totally different player than Pierce. Wade is peaking right now and Bosh is quicker, more athletic and just as tall as Paul. Plus he scores 25 with 11 rebounds. Hopefully Lamar will improve and help us here. And Bynum needs to do something about that knee or he'll get dunked on by Wade mercilessly and still pick up that foul. The bookmakers know their shit, they have the Heat over us in the Finals. Crap.

You know what? Three Stooges look good on paper, and the games are played with 5 men, but most of the time with 8 to 10 men rotation. Who are their supporting casts?

I don't think they defend like the Celts do. The Celtics defense made the "king" quit in game 5, remember?

The "king" is a quitter, and always will be.

I heard people say the Cavs did not provide him enough players to win it all, but it's not true. The last few years they spent zillion of dollars on Shaq, Antawn ...

Remember last year after they got Antawn Jamison, Las Vegas picked them to win all the way.

Not with LeBum the Quitter.

I know it sucks to lose your top player, Lebron is not the first star to leave his team and he wont be the last. As for his one hour special, the last time I check Lebron does not own ESPN. ESPN is showing that they are a bunch of turncoats since now they too are criticizing the one hour show. Ironic huh???

Cavsaliers owner Dan Gilbert, made himself look and sound ignorant. He berates Lebron when he is the one in control of his team, he did not bring any great players to Cleveland to support the Cavss which would have been a big reason for Lebron to stay during this years free agency.

If he was serious about keeping Lebron he would have made sure that the team acquired very good support players and he did not. When he said that the Cavss will win an NBA title before Lebron does, that is when it hit me that he said all of those things to avert the finger of failure to pointed at him.

Talk about narcissistic, that is the owners title for himself.

The bottom line is Cavsaliers owner Dan Gilbert dropped the ball, the Cavs fans should look for a new owner. As for the Cavss winning an NBA title, that's not going to happen for quite some time, the Cavss are now the new Nets.

The real reason the owner is upset is that he knows he and the management did not do their jobs and that the Cavss will not continue to have sellout crowds, therefore he wont make as much money. At least its not about the money with Lebron. Again I say that if Dan Gilbert would have done his job Lebron would still be there.

I just cant understand people saying LBJ made the right choice by ditching Cleaveland and going to Miami. They would argue that the cavaliers is a weak team and can never become contenders. Wow, do these people have amnesia or something? The past two sasons the Cavs was the winningest/ Top seeded team in the regular season winning more than 60 games. And prior to the start of the playoffs in both seasons the so called experts boldly predicted that the Cavs will win it all. Now I ask, did LBJ really left a weak team or a contender?

And the comparison of Kobe wanting to be traded and LBJ leaving Cleaveland is misleading. Kobe was sorrounded by guys named Kwame, Smush and Cook at that time. On the otherhand, LBJ was sorrounded by all star players like Jamison, Mo williams, Zydrunas, and Shaq not to mention Varejao. Give those guys to Kobe on 2005 to 2007 and I assure you the Lakers would be competing for the Finals. LBJ’s athleticism maybe greater than Kobe but Kobe’s heart cannot be equalled.
