Phil Jackson to return to coach Lakers next season

The Lakers just announced that Phil Jackson will be back for one more season.

Count me in,” Jackson said in a statement released by the team. “After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season.  It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”

This was the type of thing I envisioned which was a: "Okay, one last time but you had better have someone else coaching next year..." plan.

This is GREAT!

Hop aboard and show PJ some love....

NEVER DOUBT THE POWER OF THE BUS...

Great Job All....

SO AWESOME!!!!!!!! Welsome back Phil, this means we're going to be pursuing Fisher big time, Luke will play his customary 8 minutes and maybe we'll see some Sasha all season long at PG.

So many in-house solutions, I wouldn't be surprised to see Powell and DJ come back, too!

Then again...FA season is crazy!

I'm sooo glad Phil is back!!!

3PEAT HERE WE COME!!!!

FANTASTIC NEWS! Now we can all relax and enjoy our summers! My gut tells me it's going to be a three-peat!

I'm sooo glad Phil is back!!!

3PEAT HERE WE COME!!!!

OK.

So with Phil coming back, do you think any free agents will jump into
purple & gold?

great start to the off-season.....now let's take care of dfish....then a few minor adjustments to the roster......laker fans let's go get this three-peat!!.....

Good news. I'm glad to hear it.

LTLF,

I'm with you on the Luke discussion. Hey, what do you think about our chances to get Udonis Haslem? I'm hearing that he could be had on the cheap. If we could get him, he'd be very useful.

Go Lakers!

YESSSSSSSSSSS...best news I've heard all day. Thank you Phil!!!

This is great motivation for the guys to send Phil off the way the best coach in the world is supposed to go out...with his 4th 3-peat championship run.

Can't wait for the season to start already.

Rejoice! Per John Ireland of 710 ESPN Phil is returning! Year amounts undisclosed...

Posted by: Charles | July 01, 2010 at 01:48 PM

One of my lawyers just copy-wrote 4Peat.

Per ESPN

The idea of his fourth three-peat must have been too much for Phil Jackson to pass up.

The Los Angeles Lakers coach told the team on Thursday that he will return for his 11th season on the bench.

"Count me in," Jackson said in a statement. "After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It'll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one."

Jackson had told the Lakers that he needed to address health concerns before committing to another season. A knee has been bothering him for some time.

Jackson, 64, is a member of the Hall of Fame who has led the Lakers and Chicago Bulls to 11 championships, the most of any coach. The Lakers have won the last two after winning three in a row from 2000-02. The Michael Jordan Bulls won titles from 1991-93 and 1996-98 with Jackson at the healm.

"We're extremely pleased that Phil has decided to return," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "With this most recent championship, we've now won five titles in the 10 years he's been our head coach and have been to the Finals in seven of those 10 years, which is amazing. He's not only the best coach for this team, but quite simply the best coach in the history of the NBA."

The Lakers did not report a new contract with Jackson. His deal expired after this season, and there have been various reports that the Lakers want him to take a pay cut this season.

Sweet! Congrats Phil! Fisher should follow suit, as in NOW!

I never doubted Jerry Buss for a second.

LEWSTRS - Nobody should ever doubt the power on the BLOG community, Let's keep the bus ROLLING.

So, the Drama Queen is returning as Laker coach. I guess the guy is right, Phil wants to die with his boots on. Next, bit of newsworthy items.

>>>I'm with you on the Luke discussion. Hey, what do you think about our >>>chances to get Udonis Haslem? I'm hearing that he could be had on the >>cheap. If we could get him, he'd be very useful.

I like Haslem, but I doubt it. He's already won one championship, so I don't think he'd sign on for a minimum contract just to get a ring. And I think he can make at least 4 to 5 million per with another team. And what's more, if he signed with the Lakers, he'd be a bench player.

Hard to convince someone who's used to making a lot and being a starter and already has a ring to sit on the bench for a million just to get another ring.

One ticket to ride the bandwagon for Don't Blame Del Harris!

DBDH!

The bus next stop, DFISH.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the man soon to be known as 12-rings.

BACK TO BACK TO BACK !!!! This is how it should end for the best Coach in the NBA! Great decison. Great ending!

It also gives time for Lakers to find the next Coach, I assume FISHER's next contract will have a PLAYER-COACH in training responsiblity.

Wheels on the Buss go round and round...with PJ back at the helm, the purple and gold machine keeps humming along. Perfect timing on his announcement to return. Now the Lakers can assemble the team for the hat trick. Now things get really interesting. Some FAs are going to take a hard look at the Lakers because it's all about the rings.

Rocky- I agree with you on Udonis Haslem, but sorry partener can't agree with you and LTLF on Luke. This guy is going to prove you guy's wrong, he just don't have it.

Lakers are MIGHY STRONG! SUPERIOR AT EVERY LEVEL!

Starting FIVE, HEAD COACH, BEST OWNER, BEST GIRLFRIEND!!!

Now, Mitch all needs to do is make his wonders and give us a superior bench!!!

GO MITCH KUPCHACK!!!

What's with all the "Welcome Back" mumbo jumbo?..

Technically Phil NEVER left... so instead of "Welcome Back" it's:

THANKS FOR STICKING IT OUT FOR ONE MORE GLORIOUS YEAR!!!!!!

Brian Shaw didn't pull out of the Cavs Deal because it was moving "too fast"... he knew Phil was coming back for the Last Hoorah and that he is gonna be the new Zen 2.0 after the 3-PEAT!

The 2010-2011 Season will be known as the PJ VICTORY LAP/FAREWELL TOUR... and it wouldn't surprise me to see the LAKERS put together a RECORD SEASON to end the Phil Jackson Era.

Dr. Buss,

Now take what you saved from Phil's pay cut and buy us some Fish..

What's the big fuss? Was there any doubt?

It was a strategic bluff.. He knows better than to play a high risk game of poker with buss.. Phil raised buss re-raised phil folded..

The man wanted to get paid more money.. Can you blame him?

Punch List...

1. Resign Fish
2. Sign Korver or Blake
3. Training Camp...
4. 3Peat

Yayyyyy so happy, this is great news. Now let's get the 3Peat pieces together.

aahhhh....the "negotiating" power of jeannie buss.....the ultimate laker girl.......

Darko Milicic - 4 years for 20 million.

Once again, If you're over 6'10", you're in demand this offseason, no matter how much you suck.

Life without basketball is like sitting alone in a Montana cabin.

LTLF

Pls get off ur luke highhorse.. This is getting unbearable

You can slice it and dice it whichever way u want but there is absolutely nothing to defend when it comes to lukes ridiculous contract.. You can defend his high bball IQ or passing skills or knowledge of triangle but please never his contract

This is a battle you can't win.. Don't risk further casuaties.. Retreat surrender and withdrawal all troops immediately. For ur own good.. For the love of mankind..

Lewstrs........I just know the PJ Buss worked!!We're all set to win one for THE GIPPER next year. The team will be sooooo good so PJ can go out with a BANG!!WHOOHOO, I'm so happy. Next up our Fish and then the next year he can be the player coach next tp BShaw!! YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Mamba24, I think I see a 4th 3peat Band wagon coming!!

yellofever,

From the perspective of 2010, you are correct. Luke's is a bad contract.

But the contract wasn't agreed to in 2010.

From the perspective of the summer of 2008, it was reasonable.

I'm not arguing that Luke's contract is reasonable. I've stated that if the magic NBA fairy waved her magic wand and offered to let the Lakers cancel Luke's contract, then I'd be all for it.

But that isn't going to happen. There is no magic NBA contract fairy.

Because the Lakers aren't going to get that money back, my contention is that there are times when Luke has actually performed well and helped the team. And I will defend Luke against attacks that deny that.

Let it happen!!!

Amare/Lebron/Wade in Miami

It will be a LAKERS pleasure to have some worthy opponents and make no mistake, who ever comes out of the EAST, LAKERS awaits to CRUSH you!

This is even better than winning the LeBron James sweepstakes. It's good for PJ, good for the Lakers organization, good for the players, good for Brian Shaw, and good for the city. Hopefully Brian Shaw can learn as much as possible from PJ so that he can take over as coach when PJ retires.

>>>This is a battle you can't win..

Ah, but I already have. I disputed "God"'s lies about Luke with facts.

If you want to say "I hate Luke" or "Luke's not worth what they're paying him right now", then I won't respond to that at all. I agree with it.

But if you post that Luke has never done anything for this team and he's responsible for them being over the luxury tax and that he's responsible for the financial collapse of 2008 and that he's harboring Al Quaeda in his restaurant, then I'll probably dispute that with actual facts. (don't really know about the Al Quaeda thing, but I doubt it)

The score so far (if rumored deals hold up)...

Joe Johnson staying in Atlanta

Rudy Gay staying in Memphis

Wouldn't it be boring if all of the hoopla was for nothing and all of the big names stayed with their current teams?

DO NOT EVER FORGET BYNUM WILL BE 23 YEARS OLD NEXT SEASON!!!

WISER, BETTER, STRONGER!!!

YaY!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~! Its Official !!!!! MY SUMMER HAS BEGUN !!!! Now I can exhale.... Thank You LEWSTRS and everyone smart enough to grab a seat on the bus !!! I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo on the fence, I honestly thought he was gonna leave and it wasnt until the remark about him having a total of 13 rings and him not liking that number, did it dawn on me that "maybe" he might stick around one more year?? WOW I Feel So HAPPY and Calmer now.. I dont care WHO teams up and WHERE they do it.. with Phil and Mitch.. I believe they can make some smart moves..it also tells me with Phil back in the fold, we wont make any major trades ( Lamar stays for another year ) and it improves Critters chances of coming back as well... anyways.. OK I'm checking out to enjoy summer stuff.. I WILL be wearing all type of cool Laker gear whereever I go..I'm looking forward to going to Onset,Ma ( its a hour south of Boston, the locals just call it the "cape" ) and wearing Laker Purple.. I'll take pics ! lol now that Phils back.. I feel I can talk smack and have the stones to back it up again next season !!!!! lmao so now I gloat.. I gloat .. I gloat.. I apologize in advance to all the mature intellectual readers of the blog.. but TODAY.. is GOOD DAY !!! I can actually resume CELEBRATING this Title !!!! Im wearing my white Kobe Puppet 4 rings tee today as I type this smiling from ear to ear knowing how happy all of you guys are as well.. July 1st has become GLOAT DAY !!! Wow I feel Fantastic !!! Have a Great Summer Gang.. See ya after Labor Day.. Hugs my sis Justa.. fist bumps Larry and all the fellas... 2010 NBA Champions YOUR Los Angeles LAKERS !!!!!!!

Remember KOBE BRAYNT can have an injury free next season!

QUICKER, FASTER, EQQUIPPED!!!

PJ is in.
Kobe will be healthy, so Bynum...

hm....LOOKS GOOOOOD!
Cheers

Now if we can get some FFFFFIIIISSSSHHHH to go with that; the summer will be complete.

Woohoo!!! The PJ love bus had a successful trip.

Thanks, Phil!

Cavs should make a sign and trade for Chris Bosh to keep James in Cleveland.

Jamison and Vargeao for Bosh!

Staples 24,

>>>DO NOT EVER FORGET BYNUM WILL BE 23 YEARS OLD NEXT SEASON!!!

Not to mention that most C's take longer to peak and most players reach their peak around 27 or 28.

I would love to see Bynum stay healthy and truly become the BEAST we've all been hoping for.

Staples24:

You wrote: DO NOT EVER FORGET BYNUM WILL BE 23 YEARS OLD NEXT SEASON!!!

WISER, BETTER, STRONGER!!!

RESPONSE: Yup for sure and Kobe will need to hang on to Bynum's coat tail in his twilight years for 3peat. Starting next year I see changing of the guards, out with the old and in with new and STRONG..

Thanks Phil! Rest your knee on the sideline in the coming season and let D-Fish be you right hand man coaching on the court!

Hey carl,

How do ya like them apples?

Muahaha!

Not only did we resign, the entire Lakers community across multiple blogs are overjoyed!

You sir are so outvoted that even if you're not wrong, you're wrong.

On the Farmar front, things are probably looking good for him.

Joe Johnson back to Atlanta
Rudy Gay back to Memphis

That's 33 million total salary that won't get spent by one of the teams with big cap space. Once LeBron, Bosh, Wade, Amare, and Boozer sign, there are going to be a couple of teams with TONS of money to spend and no 1st tier players to spend it on.

Blake and Ridnour and Felton will definitely go ahead of Farmar, but it partily depends on the system. Farmar would really fit well in a Mike D'Antoni offense, so if New York only manages to lure one big bucks player, Farmar might get a deal with them for a couple of years and a chance to start.

Wow, that mural that Prokorov did says something special.

That guy has balls!

ECJ,

>>> This is great motivation for the guys to send Phil off the way the best coach in the world is supposed to go out...with his 4th 3-peat championship run.

Wisdom at its finest. My nomination for RCOTD.

Hmm good to hear he's coming back ... but the last dance tag is going to put a cloud of drama around this team ... and come on ... u mean if he wins again he doesn't try for a 4peat? something he's never accomplished ... y'all know the media is going to be asking that question on one hand and on the other it'll be ... woah u mean he retires a loser if they don't 3peat?

Anyways, again it's good to have the zen master back at the side lines ... here's hoping we get a free agent aquisition to shore up the guard position ... that kobe gets surgery and returns healthy and that bynum finaly plays a healthy season and post season ....

24 + 16 + [3|1]7 = The Purple Tinted Golden Age

Phil at home in his cabin, is sitting on his oversized and overstuffed chair in front of his B & W TV in Montana.

He's contemplating his return to the Lakers, not sure what to do as Jeannie brings him a tall glass of his favorite ice tea.

"Phil darling, have you made up your mind yet?"

"I'm not sure Jeannie. I'm leaning toward retirement"

Jeannie leans over and kisses him softly. "Still feel that way?'

"Well, with a little prodding. I could lean the other way"

She kisses him again. Phil sighs. "Uhm...I'm definitely thinking of coming back now." Jeannie smiles.

At just that point, ESPN flashes the line on the television. "Doc Rivers to coach the Celtics next year..."

"Jeannie?"

"Yes, eleven ringsky"

"Can you get Mitch on the phone for me?"

Just got home, and on the way, I was listening to sports radio...

I wanted to reach my hand in the radio and strangle the idiots on the other end...

LeBron this, LeBron that...I am so sick of it...

They went on to say that if James and Bosh end up in Miami and Riley coaches, it will be a Dynasty...

Hello...do you know you have a LAKER DYNASTY who are back to back champs right now...Never a mention about that...

The breaking news of PJ coming back...not one word...

Nope, it's all about the King who hasn't done SQUAT!!!

Is it me, or is anyone else so tired of the Haters, especially the Stern, the media and the so called experts...

DON'T HATE CONGRATULATE...That is what I have to say to them...

We are the measuring stick, the ones everyone is scrambling to match up with...The team that is the defending champs...

Now James is already being given 6-7 rings if he goes to Chicago or Miami...No joke, Bill Simmons said it on ESPN yesterday...

So what's new...I guess THEY WOULDN'T HATE IF WE WEREN'T GREAT...

Small solace we get for the Hate we have to endure...

Only guys who know they won't command anywhere near top dollar on the open market (see T-Mac, Joe Smith, Mike Miller, Earl Watson, etc). With the lock out looming, I'm sure lots of guys are mildly compelled to take a big pay cut and have a shot at a ring, but the draw of financial security with the lock out casting it's lame shadow over the NBA landscape a year from now I feel that if there is a deal for more money (particullary if it's guaranteed in 2010-11) that's where guys will end up, regardless of the team's chances of winning.

Now that Paul Pirce has opted out, can anyone visualize him signing with the Clippers? they need help at the 3 and he's just the sort of savvy, local vet that could really give that team a boost.

Not string when you dig down into the bench and not a defensive stalwart, but that could be a great run and gun team.

howdy sherrif - you talkin' bout a 4-peat already?! LOL!! I LOVE YOUR STYLE - big thinking all the waaaayyyyy!!!

complex(my)brotha - I'll sit beside you, but you gotta promise no pinching.... LOL!!!

seely - CONGRATS!! I just celebrated # 18 with the hubby. Man, time goes by so fast.....

Man people need to stop on this blake or who ever PG stuff. these guys suck. Gos check out there states. if we want 7 ppg then we start fisher. Personnally I think shannon should be givin a chance at the start. He plays great D. Lots of energy. the guy had 8 ppg with trash min. Give him a legit shot to show what he can do. I mean u got fish coming off the bench anyways. Also im on the T Mac wagon if hell take low money. If we are keeping bynum then we gotta get him a legit back up. Sorry to say it but het PHILs last year let shaq come back dont be wack. If ODOM wants to start again let him. Shoot put him at the Point just cos he palys Point on O doesnt mean thats what he plays on D. U still have Kobe and Artest which have great D.

C/Bynum/Shaq/Mbenga
PF/Gasol/Powell/Caracter
SF/Artest/TMac/Ebanks
SG/Bryant/Sasha
PG/Odom/Fisher/Maybe shannon or filler for vet min.

Sounds good to me. with Shaq Fish Tmac and sasha coming off the bench we could move odom back to the starting line up.

This Lebron James stuff is getting weird. All these people groveling like idiots to get him on their team.

It reminds me of the Twilght Zone Movie scene with the little kid who was all powerful, and everyone being dreadfully afraid of him.

"Oh yes, Lebron, whatever you say Sir James! Just don't hurt us!"

@LongTimeLakerFan

Hell yeah, you and me both got Luke's back in the off season. it takes about a week, but just about this time every summer, early in the morning with the dew still glistening from the night's activities the Luke Bashers start creeping from their season long slumber.

It's too bad that most people see Luke for all he's not as oppossed to trying to see how he helps the Lakers. Is he a model NBA player? Nope. Is his contract a bummer the way the NBA cap is structured? Yep. But as you say, that offer was tendered in, shall we say, more economically prolific times.

My hope is Luke gets himself staright health-wise and contributes 10-15 mpg next season of team-oriented ball and helps us hang another banner.

GO MITCH!!!!!

Of course, you are a prime example of my point...Look up chemistry, compatibility in the dictionary...But of course, you are in the same mode of greatness with no accomplishments...

You are a typical shallow fan who knows nothing about the NBA...but don't feel bad...get a job at ESPN...they love hiring idiots...

@Jaime Sweet -

I think if there's a lockout, guaranteed deal or no, I think no one gets paid until they're playing ball again.

But that lockout may be real mother to some players.

They're talkin' hard salary cap and pay-for-play deals like in the NFL. Means old dudes with fat contracts are gonna be getting cut left and right. I'm pretty sure the guaranteed deals are gonna be gone if the owners get their way. I wonder how that would fare for our own KB24 in the last years of his fat contract if they don't grandfather in the guaranteed deals with the new CBA. Pretty interesting indeed.

Who gives a crap about LeLoser? I'm MUCH more interested in moves that THE LAKERS make than anyone else's movies.

Great news! Thanks, Phil! One more Threepeat!

I wish Byron Scott had held out and waited to take job next year (good luck coaching LeBron's left behind minions).

Brian Shaw: take good notes next year!

Fatty - Twilight Zone reference - nice... Yeah - that was a good one, but one of my favs was where the people were in this empty town and all they could hear was a kid's laughter. Come to find out they were actually the size of little dolls in a child's playhouse, and the laughter was coming from a "giant" little girl. Whenever I think of that one it kind of creeps me out a bit.... what if....

Fatty
I was just thinking the same thing.. albeit, not quite as graphically, but I think Doc not only coming back but saying he wants one more shot with "this group of guys" has to have had something to do with it.
Go Lakers.
San Luis Obispo loves the Lakers

LEWSTRS -

The big three idiots made it work in boston, but yeah, I've got my chemistry issues with the second coming of the big three idiots.

Paula would dominate the ball, bald lunatic worked the post, and raylien ran off screens. It was a good fit.

LBJ and Dwade need the ball in their hands to be effective. I'd be more worried about one of them pairing with Bosh in Chicago with some solid role players than the three of them together on a team with no other real assets or cap flexibility.

@Jaime & LTLF

I don't hate Luke. He's actually one of the most likeable guys on the roster despite pretty much being a below average player at best. Sometimes he's even useful when there isn't a half-decent SF for him to guard. But his best days are far behind, he's not healthy enough to compete about 80% of the time now. That's a recipe for retirement. I already said the contract wasn't his fault and signed at a time when it wasn't as ridiculous as it is today. If he really cares at all about the team, he'd retire, still get his money, and make room for someone useful on the roster. I don't follow Luke's logic in not wanting to wrap it up now and leverage a move to the coaching ranks. You can't possibly argue that 4 years from now, he'll have anything left for another NBA contract.

Jamie Sweet,

>>>My hope is Luke gets himself staright health-wise and contributes 10-15 mpg
>>>next season of team-oriented ball and helps us hang another banner.

Well stated. Luke being healthy would help the "bench mob" to become closer to the force they were at their best. With Odom, Walton (healthy) and Brown, they'd have a decent start of a bench.

hardcore laker fan and realist... we were fortunate to get the celtics and lose perkins for game 7. i was hoping we'd get boston, not for pay back but because i felt that was our best chance to win the 'chip. orlando or cleve would've killed us. why? because of a few wild cards: bynum's jacked up knees, odom's inconsitency, fish's inability to defend and a horrific bench. the team willed themselves to a victory which made up for our pathetic bench. now that phil is back, it's time to let buss & mitch to surround the new core of players: kobe, pau and artest. we'll be stuck with sasha, luke, possibly odom & bynum for obvious reasons. as far as brown, mbenga, powell & morrison: let 'em go. fish can stay but not at $5mil. sorry - he just isn't worth it. besides, they're offering him a place to stay for sentimental reasons rather than necessity. we don't need high dollar players right now, just players. l.a. looks even more enticing now that pj is back. i've wrote all along: IN BUSS WE TRUST!

@ htj -

Yes hearing Wade, James and Bosh on a team looks and sounds deadly. But they still have to accomplish winning the whole thing...

Not just the best record of the regular season...not just making or winning the ECF, but going all the way and winning the chip...looking good on paper and actually winning rings are 2 different things...

You have heard Kobe and others saying how hard it is to win a Championship, and even harder to defend one...

Even the Miami hired and bought trio of gunslingers do win a championship, like the Big 3 in Boston, does that constitute a Dynasty...

To me that is considered a 'flash in the pan'...at least the Chowder Big 3 made it to the Finals 2 out of the last 3 years...and I still don't consider them a Dynasty...

So crowning the possible Big 3 in Miami a Dynasty, is as absurd as saying LeBron James is the GOAT...

>>>If he really cares at all about the team, he'd retire, still get his money, and
>>>make room for someone useful on the roster. I don't follow Luke's logic in
>>>not wanting to wrap it up now and leverage a move to the coaching ranks.

Okay, let me put it to you this way.

Now. Let's say that the company that YOU are working for thinks you're underperforming, but they'll agree to keep paying you what you're currently earning for 3 more years - they hope you'll get back to the level you were at when they hired you.

Would YOU forgo the rest of your 3 years of salary just to be a "team player" for your company.

Oh, add in this factor:

Take your current salary. Divide it by 10. That's how much you'd make per year after you leave this job.

Still want to quit to be a great guy?

You asked for it, and you got it... ALL ABOARD LAKERNATION!!!
Let's make PJ's finale a memorable one with the 4th 3Peat in his illustrious career...

followup on the last post -

That divide by 10 number is the MAX you'll ever make in a year after you give up the rest of your pay for the next 3 years.

The whole "farewell tour" comment by Phil is GENIUS.

He's already working his zen magic.

AK posted this on their ESPN Laker blog, but I thought I'd paraphrase the idea.

In 2008-09, the Lakers had that game 6 blowout to motivate them to play hard

In 2009-10, the Lakers added Artest, who added a lot of extra HUNGER to get a ring (plus they got a chance at revenge on the Suns & Celtics)

Before Phil re-signed, there wasn't any anchor of motivation. Now Phil made the "last stand" comment, so there's motivation to get one more ring for the greatest coach in NBA history.

brilliant.

They really should have televised all the pitches to LeBron.

Seriously.

I bet it would have gotten a better rating than world cup now that the US is out.

my ideal and realistic list

kobe = reja bell/ sasha
dfish = blake
ron = walton/korver
gasole = ebanks
bynum = odom

GREAT NEWS! Sign me up for the PJ 3PEAT BUS.

LEWSTRS- Bro i need a window seat.

Phil Jackson coming back to the Lakers is best news of the 2010 Free Agency. Not even LeBron James, Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh signing elsewhere can top that. Now Derek Fisher and Brian Shaw should learn from the Zen master about the intricasies of high level coaching. One last stand, hope it's a grand one.

seely - CONGRATS!! I just celebrated # 18 with the hubby. Man, time goes by so fast.....

Justa: Well, congratulations to you too! 18!!! Wow....I'm only at 11, hah! We're going to Panama City, Florida to celebrate (last chance to do so before the tar balls hit all of Florida coast and we won't get to enjoy our beautiful beaches for the next decade!)

LTLF: I agree, it's pure genius on Phil's part to claim the last tour. K Bros on their blog said that now the Laker fanatics have a slogan for this season, "The Last Stand". Got a nice ring to it (no pun intended).

LEWSTRS: Please throw me on board for THE PHIL JACKSON FAREWELL TOUR - 3PEAT BUS. "One more for the road"!!!
