Looking ahead to rest of Lakers' free-agency movement

34841195

There's no such thing as a Lakers off-season, but there have been very few things that have caused the organization to stress out during the dog days of summer. Sure, there was the uncertainty on whether Phil Jackson would return, but he decided a week after considering retirement to stay for one more year. There were also a few questions on whether Derek Fisher would remain or join the super-team that is the Miami Heat. Other than that, it's all been clear skies.

Lakers fans have sneered at LeBron James and "The Decision," a move that makes the Heat a legitimate contender against the Lakers. But I believe the defending champs still remain the favorite for the 2010-11 season. Lakers fans have enjoyed some summer league action, with rookies Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter proving to be some of the top players thus far. And surely, Lakers fans have taken a break from basketball and enjoyed normal summer enjoyments such as the beach, sleeping in and doing nothing. For the sake of the blog's Web traffic numbers, I hope that's not the case. For the sake of everyone having a balanced life, I hope it's so.

The Lakers have their main corps intact, but that doesn't mean General Manager Mitch Kupchak can take vacation just yet. Among the items on the agenda

1. What to do with Shannon Brown

Brown opted out of his contract, but that was done with the hope that he could either get a long-term deal with the Lakers or see if his market value would give him a better financial deal than the $2.1 million he was going to make this season. Though The Times' Broderick Turner reported Brown has attracted interest from the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz, there's been little indication that he's been heavily sought. Nonetheless, the Lakers have considered keeping Brown as long as it's financially feasible because they like his upside and attitude. Nonetheless, The Times' Mike Bresnahan and Turner report the Lakers lately are considering letting him go.

2. Will Lakers pick up more free agents?

With the Lakers signing former Clipper guard Steve Blake to a four-year, $16-million deal and agreeing with Fisher to a three-year deal worth about $10.5 million, The Times reports that the Lakers have a total payroll worth $89.09 million. The NBA salary cap for the 2010-11 season will be at $58.04 million, while a dollar-for-dollary luxury tax threshold will kick in at $70.31 million. The Lakers also have $1.77 million left on their mid-level exception. With the Lakers needing to fill four more names to their roster, it's unclear how they'll do moving forward with the money constraints.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that Bryant will meet Wednesday with free agent guard Raja Bell, adding more intrigue to their relationship, given the contentiousness they had in the 2006 playoffs, which serves as an integral reason why Bryant wants him. Acquiring Bell would instantly add a defensive presence to the backcourt, a variable the Lakers sorely lacked last season. Bresnahan and Turner have also indicated Shaun Livingston is an option, though he's had incredibly bad luck with injuries. Some Laker fans have wondered if Tracy McGrady is an option, but as McGrady indicated on his Twitter account the Lakers' front office hasn't contacted him. Tweeted McGrady: "laker nation is coming hard for me... no talks with front office yet tho."

3. What about Adam Morrison , D.J. Mbenga and Josh Powell?

Nothing new has been reported since, but it's been indicated that the Lakers don't expect to keep Morrison, Mbenga or Powell. Each brought great attitude and work ethic to practice, but didn't receive much playing time. Nonetheless, the Lakers haven't made any decisions.

4. How about the rookies?

Kupchak stressed after the NBA draft that he wouldn't just keep his draft picks because it'd save him money. They also had to be good. With Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter headlining summer league, Kupchak surely can count on them to help balance his checkbook. If the Lakers keep Ebanks and Caracter after training camp, The Times reports they could make $473,604 as rookie forwards.

GO LAKERS!!!

YES TMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC LAL WANTS YOUUUUUUUU!!!
THIS LAKERS NATION NEEDSSSSSSSSSSSS YOU!!!!

LAKERS FRONT OFFICE GET TO IT!!! CALL UP TMAC AND SIGN HIM ALREADY PLZ!

KOBE STOP MEETING PEOPLE WE HATE! Coff COff (Bell)
meet with people we like like Tmac...
wish i had contact with MK lol

and this is why im here lol " the Lakers' front office hasn't contacted him. Tweeted McGrady: "laker nation is coming hard for me... no talks with front office yet tho."

It doesn't really surprise me that T-Mac hasn't been contacted by Mitch. He surely didn't 'Wow' anyone in New York and his attitude has been questioned his whole carreer. I'm not saying it couldn't work, but if you could have UPS or T-Mac for the same money, who would you pick?

I pick Shannon Brown.

MM - is there a live chat tonight?

@ --Mark Medina --- very good article lol

but if you get in contact with the LAL front office tell them that we want TMAC!!!!!!!!!!!!

No RAJA BELL! NO LINVINGSTON! just plain old Tracy McGrady!

I'll take T-Mac - if he includes a time machine.

@ Jamie - are you serious???????? ok lay off the dope!! your putting down TMAC... your gonna leave a VET and sing a DUNKer? ummm right on... whats brown gonna do for you coming off the bench.... ummmmm slam dunk??

your gonna pick UPS that can only dunk, no shooting skills what so ever, no PG skills at all, when brown on the floor, LO gets the PG role. so why do you think lakers dont want to keep BROWN???????????????????????????? because he is a liability so please lay off the cali green. its not effecting you right!!!!

oh and MM Jons right " There's no cure for Lakeraholicism, thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Z Iglauskas is going to Miami.

The people in Cleveland are going to be PISSED!

Z was practically a sacred cow there. Wow.

One more thing, what non-Clevelanders don't realize is that one reason why the Cavs have had such a weird back-up line-up for so long is because LeBron had his fingers in the GM decisions. The Cavs kept players simply because LeBron liked them, so often they kept players longer who normally would have been shipped off or cut... much to the detriment of the team.

Well, it looks like this disease has been transferred to Miami. Z is old and slow and should retire. Instead he's now playing with his buddy LeBron for the Heat.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

GO LAKERS!!!

lal - can you please tell me what you really think about Brown?

LOL! You're on fire today - got the mad love for TMac much?!

Jon K

can we stop this miopic, provincial, Akron/Cleveland/Ohio losing mentality watch?

or there r just residuals of the losing/CLIPPERS teams that u r supporting?

i know they r good people

BUT

not at all interesting.

Jon K - your anecdotes regarding Cleveland & the princess are unbelievable. What a fricken prima donna. I can't wait to watch the fur fly in Miami. Any predictions on how long it's gonna take? LOL! I'm betting sometime this month we'll hear about something going down....

@justa - okay here it is about Brown, his a good player no doubt and has amazing acrobatic skills that no other player has. watching him play this last season made think that his another Jordan Farmar off the bench, i mean phil gave both of them playing time and both of them couldnt come trew, they just get luck from day to day thats about it. shannon is better than Farmar that i know hands down. but farmar has better PG skills then brown, if brown can step up his shooting game, step up his skills as a PG, and is willing to come off the bench as backup for FIsh and blake i say sign Brown ASAP, but i mean look, we got Blake, Fish for PG Kobe n Sasha at the line, why do we need brown to do a dunk every now and then. i dont think so... he was so much potential tho you guys dont even know, shannon brown can do a lot and needs to get it done, not just stand around, his quick and agile and i think he could turn into a good PG or SG if his willing to learn but so far in the last season we didnt see much from him besides couple of dunksssss... so dont get me wrong justa i love brown if he comes back to LAL

but what Jamie was saying is Either Tmac or Brown... i mean can you even compare themmm?? i didnt think so... thats why i said we need Tmac not Brown because Tmac is the obvious choice here for me!!!!

so who would you pick Justa??? Tmac or Brown??? (like i said thats not a good comparison) (maybe Raja Bell and Tmac) (ummm now scratch that last thing, still dosnt compare)

and as far as Tmac ive been one of his fans ever since his days in Orlando... remeber that? how about Raptors with his cousin Vince Carter who used to be the sickest dunker lol

but when he got to rockets and knick he was injured and didnt really want to lead a team that much because he had no one to work with... all other teams had 2+ superstars but Tmac had none. but i mean watching him play is great. his done with injuries, ( Tim Grover) (Kobe, Wade, Jordan ext) so his ready to be an all star again. what i recently liked about him is how on the Bleacherreport he said " he wants kobe to lead the team since he respects him and thinks his one of the greatest players, his willing to sit on the bench and he can be consistant unlike LO... so i mean i would get rid of LO to sign Tmac if i was MK... trust me if Mitch can sign Tmac you guys all will see what i was talking about...

DJ Mbenga puts in respectable numbers when given the chance to play. He started 2 games last November when both Pau and AB were injured. And in those two games, he averaged 12.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 7.5 points. I know that it is a very small sampling but it shows that he makes the most when given the chance to play with the starters. He is a very economical 'insurance' in case AB or Pau gets injured.

ouchhhhhhh,

I really don't care what you think so don't waste your time commenting on me because I simply will never respond to your criticism.

However, I will respond to justanothermambafan, because I like justanothermambafan.

justanothermambafan,

I don't know how long it will take for the New York Post to send down reporters to Miami to dig up dirt, but my guess is not long.

GO LAKERS!!!

LTLF,

Thanks for your response regarding TMac. I would take TMac over AI because after watching both of their comback attempts with NY and Memphis/Philly respectively, TMac seemed to have more left than AI. Also, TMac is good friends with Kobe and would probably accept a lesser role with the team than AI would(I read what he said about returning, but I don't buy it). Although I've always loved AI's heart and game, TMac is just a better fit because of the multiple roles he could play on the court for us just because of his length and versatility. He could play the one, two or three spot depending on the matchups.

I also don't see anything wrong with having both Bell and TMac if they both want to come here for the minimum.

Posted by: Nemaia Faletogo | Jul 13, 2010 2:34:31 PM

RAJA or SHANNON?

Ok so its clear now that the last guard spot on the roster will come down to Raja Bell or Shannon Brown.

So what does Laker Nation (or at least Our Main Blog) think? If you had to choose between Bell and Brown who would you take and why?

PS - "I'd rather have them both and dump Sasha" is for contractual reasons not an option...unfortunately!
PPS - in case it even needs to be said T-Mac is a possibility only in his own head. There's a reason neither Mitch nor Kobe has talked to or about him.

T-Mac and his bag of ice on the knee...tsc, tsc...
AI and his attitude...tsc, tsc...
-
NO T-MAC.
NO AI.

@ Nemaia Faletogo - except that Raja Bell is a soar Looser, at least Tmac can loose a game with dignity lol just like the Trolls, being a soar looser is encourage in their organizations... cuz they know they cant beat em.

LAL - ok, ok - don't beat me up too bad lol! The only way you can get me to choose between TMac & Brown is if you can guarantee they'd be healthy all year AND have great attitudes. Then I'd take TMac. BUT - since you can't - I'd have to say Brown. He's a good guy, great attitude, knows the system, athletic as hell, and has room for improvement. TMac on the other hand has a history of injuries, to say the least, and a rep for being more cancerous in the locker room than not. We do not need anything or anyone disrupting the team's chemistry. So - there you have it.

snake - I agree. I'd love for the team to keep Congo Cash. Good guy, great teammate, knows the system, good challenge to our starters in practice, excellent comic relief and can throw up a pretty good game if given half a chance. I guess we'll find out soon enough....

MITCH, IF THE PLAYER YOU SIGN IS NOT NAMED TMAC...THROW HIM BACK!!

Shannon defends, makes his foul shots. and had 2 twenty point performances, when KOBE was injured. What more do U want from a young player, who still has a lot of promise and plays with his heart every game.

Get MSU's favorite son, Eli Broad to buy stock in the Lakers, like all of it.

@ bronxlakerfan and Jon K. -

Be careful what you post...Darth Stern has many siths reading blogs...

You might get fined, like Gilbert, for talking bad about his princess, or about the sign and trades for James and Bosh...

@ Jay Jay - did you finish as an english major? cuz your wording "in case it even needs to be said T-Mac is a possibility only in his own head"

i take that as a jab at me, since im the main advocate for Tmac and the rest of you besides mamba24 wants a soar looser Raja Bell in the team. go figure, tmac is way better in every single stat then raja bell, (defense, Offense, shooting, agility, skills) sure bell didnt get injured but what did Bell ever achive in his life.. i didnt think so.. so jay jay wants to defend Lebuffon, Wade, and Bush with Raja Bell??? ummm yeah jay you need to stop with your english major and start taking Basketball 101.

thanks you sir for your comment!

Mbenga is a no-brainer sign. Why? Cheap. Positive attitude. Capable of contributing.

Name me anyone else besides Shaq that has these qualities... oh wait, Shaq doesn't have positive attitude and prob wouldn't sign for minimum. Scrap that. Mbenga is the ONLY choice at back-up C.

Now, Tmac... I'm officially on the bandwagon BUT this is dependent upon the reports of his athletic training.

Why would I support bringing in a washed up player?? well, because 1. he has almost zero demand and would come cheaply. 2. wants to be here 3. actually has upside if the reports on his training are true

This is like finding a diamond in the rough. A guy undervalued because they don't know his knee is back and his explosiveness is also back.

LTLF asked about AI. Well, was in favor of it last summer. Am in less favor this summer, but 1. He's proven that he'll actually play for the minimum 2. He'll pout and cause a problem if you crap on him

Noting the two points above, I say I'm still in favor of bringing in AI if... *IF there's no other alternatives (ie, Tmac or if Bell isn't even healthy). AI respects Kobe and would be forced to respect the backtoback champs. Problem is, he'd want that starting gig over some scrubs named Fish or Blake... could be a problem there, and in many respects, he'd be correct. In theory, AI would be awesome on this team off the bench.... in practice, I'm not so sure he'd accept playing behind one of the worst PGs in the L.... even if on Kobe's team.

Be careful what you post...Darth Stern has many siths reading blogs...You might get fined, like Gilbert, for talking bad about his princess, or about the sign and trades for James and Bosh...Posted by: LEWSTRS | July 13, 2010 at 02:49 PM
LMAO!! That's funny but it's partially true. You better believe Darth Stern has his minions reading Blogs for any tearing down of his beloved Princess!

IT'S NOT WACK, FOR THE LAKERS TO BRING TMAC, BACK

Jay Jay,

>>>PS - "I'd rather have them both and dump Sasha" is for contractual reasons
>>>not an option...unfortunately!

Actually, since you brought it up, that is an option. Or almost.

If they sign Raja Bell, and if he proves to be healthy and playing well, then he does what Sasha does, but much better (harassing defense and 3-point shooting).

So if the Lakers sign Bell and if the guard rotation at the start of the season is Kobe, Fish, Blake, and Bell, then don't be surprised if Sasha gets traded off as an expiring contract at (or before) the trade deadline. They'd be more likely to just let his contract expire to get back the cap space at the end of the year. But if there's a quality free agent available at the trade deadline, and if their salary isn't outrageous, then you might partly get your wish.

Keeping Shannon probably means that Sasha sticks around for the full year. Shannon's 3-point shooting isn't reliable enough for them to dump Sasha.

GO LAKERS!!!

>>>I also don't see anything wrong with having both Bell and TMac if they both
>>>want to come here for the minimum.

I concur. The only real issue is that some people might get edgy if there aren't enough minutes to go around. But if they bench Sasha and tell Luke to just keep resting until his back is fully healed, then this rotation might work:

C - Bynum, Gasol
PF - Gasol, Odom
SF - Artest, TMac
SG - Kobe, Bell
PG - Fisher, Blake

Assuming Kobe and Artest don't mind playing 30 minutes a game or less, there could be enough minutes to keep everyone happy. And Walton, Vujacic, Ebanks, and Caracter (and maybe a center) would be deep reserve bench players, who'd only play in garbage minutes or if someone got injured.

I'M GOING TO GIVE U JUST THE FACTS, THE LA LAKERS NEED TMAC!!

@ justanothermambafan - i just got done talking about Tmac being trained by TIM GROVER. which means he will be healthy as a cow next season,

second - i can guarantee you that he'll be healthy because he is going to sit on the bench most of the time... so it means less playing time for him, which also means that he wont be pron to injuries as much, because if you look at his teams, rockets, kinck, his the only player running up and down the court of course his gonna get injured. so less playing time means healthier season. also note that TIM GROVER HAS MAGIC HANDS!!

third - i doubt tmac will throw anyone chemistry off in the LAL organization, first his friends with RON RON, second he admires KOBE as a great player, is willing to learn from him. i mean who else might have a problem with him?? fish? gasol? bynum?? didnt think so... so based on my knowledge ill pick TMac anyday over brown...

relax justa were not fighting and im not beating up anything or anyone ( i like our usualy blog commentators weather they say good things or bad) lol just making a fun argument why i disagree with you guys lmao cmon someones gonna have to man up on here.

MAMBA24 sir you are #1 in my book! see guys mamba knows the truth... let it ring dear mamba let it ring.

I also like DJ Mbenga to come back...

But do we have to match his salary from last year, or do we have to give him a raise?

DJ is worth 1 mil a year...and you know what you are getting...

BTW,

Reading TMAC's twitter account, it sounds like he might actually be interested in coming to play for the Lakers for the minimum.

Consider this recent response to a question from another twit:

July 9: in response to "are you planning to join the Lakers?", TheReal_TMAC tweated

"amazing organization...great roster...we'll see... no talks yet"

While that doesn't sound all gung-ho like when Artest was expressing an interest to play with the Lakers, TMac didn't comment that they don't have enough to pay him. He surely must be aware that they've only got 1.77 million or minimum contracts to offer. But he didn't reject the possibility offhand, and seemed a bit enthused.

The importance of the tweet is that it came on July 9, after Blake was already signed with the Lakers.

Note that he also expressed some interest in joining Miami or Orlando or Chicago in other tweets.

No Shannon? That's sad...

Mamba24,

"You better believe Darth Stern has his minions reading Blogs for any tearing down of his beloved Princess!"

I did find it curious that shortly after I began posting regarding the "deafening silence" coming out of Darth Stern's office that he FINALLY got around to fining Dan Gilbert and released a muted statement regarding the LeCreep/ESPN debacle.

We should trade Sasha for a backup big. This should save us money to bring in Bell and TMac both.

IT'S NOT WHACK TO WANT TMAC
Brown can deliever this is true, but compare what Tmac can do for you
Brown can jump real real High, But see Tmac, the boy can Fly
While Browns not sure whether to dunk or pass, TMacs already scored on ur @zz.
You think Paula can intimidate TMac, He'd just give that Biatch a backhand Smack
If Tmac is anything close to fit, The Lakers will make Miami look like SPIT
TMac is a 3-PEAT being handed to you, Come on Mitch you know what to do!

jamf,

>>>TMac on the other hand has a history of injuries, to say the least,

definitely a big strike against him.

>>>and a rep for being more cancerous in the locker room than not. We do not
>>> need anything or anyone disrupting the team's chemistry. So - there you have it.

Artest had a bad rep before he came to the Lakers as well. How has that worked out?

To some extent, winning solves a lot of problems. It also helps that players respect PJ and respect Kobe, so they'll keep a lot of the smaller issues in check. Occasionally you'll hear Pau whine about "not enough touches", but that's about the extent of any locker room conflict you'll see with the Lakers any time soon.

And the one thing that would be really nice about TMac is that he can create shots for himself and others. It would be nice to have a designated scorer on the second team (sorta like what Jamal Crawford brought to the Hawks last season). Lamar would rather pass. Blake is pass first. Bynum or Gasol are fine in the post, but can't set themselves up. TMac could slash to the hoop to create shots for himself or anyone else.

LAL -

1. It's "healthy as a horse" not "healthy as a cow" LMAO!!

2. In a fight, I could take you.

3. Kobe wants Bell. No talks with TMac... hmmmmmm....

ROTFLMAO :) !!!!

We all want MBenga to come back...
-
mamba24 - T-Mac is injured for good. Ok, he might not be injured now, but wait til the regular season starts and you'll see the bag of ice on his knee.

Please tell me more about this Tim Grover guy. Why is he some kind of miracle worker? Posted by: Jon K. | July 13, 2010 at 03:11 PM
http://www.attackathletics.com

I think if Kobe wants Raja Bell, we should go get him. Who better to know about players who defend well against him than the Mamba. Raja's cocky, but he does defend and can knock down some three's. Wish we could get both T Mac and Raja. I don't where the Heat's getting all their money cause now they're signing Z!!!We need some Vets!!

LTLF,

Judging from his comments, it seems to me that it's a mistake, potentially a big mistake, not to at least open up a conversation with Tmac.

Talk to the guy - let him know you're interested. Tell him you want to see him train or something. Show up in person. Watch him. If he looks good, tell him you're contacting his agent ASAP and will be hearing shortly.

Then discuss with Buss & Kobe (or do this first)...

This guy will go cheap - vet minimum 1 yr to prove himself... or do like SB and sign him to a longer minimum deal with some sort of opt out clause.

And speaking of opt out clauses... funny to me how Shannon opts out thinking more money, but what he was really getting was less money.

Guys, a point of advice... the economy and therefore the league is not what it used to be and it will only get WORSE over the next few years. Don't get greedy and don't get stupid.

And I would like to point this out: McGrady is a pretty good defender.

When Houston went on that 22 game winning streak in 2008, Yao was out for much of the streak, but McGrady was playing, and the team did it mostly by playing hard-nosed defense.

Erick Dampier is going to be waived by the Bobcat. Time to get Bynum a backup on the cheap. Mitch, get on the phone and do your thing.

wow thank you MAMBA24!!!! i dont know what we would have done without you buddy!

are me and you and LTLF the only advocates for tmac rather than Bell?? cmon people if we just stop and think im sure you guys will get the right answer. sure he had injuries but what player did not in the NBA???? even kobe got injured and had to sit out to rest, well everyone gets injured and they bounch back Tmac's back and is ready to play!!!!

TMac did the right thing last year showing he still had a lot left in the tank and then shutting it down for the season......he avg 13/4ast in very limited action the first 7 games with the NYK including two 20+ games in less than 30 mins of action..... He's been working with Tim G. since then and strengthening that knee, I see him being a cheaper, younger, better Grant Hill.....Blake is a great addition, Raja would be add another punch, but a healthy TMac could compete for sixth man of the year off the Laker bench....Kobe should get on the horn with Tim Grover and get the skinny on Mac's progress... Truthfully he practically stole money the last season
(20+ Mill)....He wants to be a Laker and could add a dynamic a la BOB Mac.... Get it don Mitch

Jon K - here is why lol

*Shakes head* You really don't know us at all, do you Mark? Of course we've done all those thing but basketball? I will watch anyone play, and I mean it. And Laker ball? No break needed. In fact, I'll be getting a serious basketball jones once summer league is over.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Grover is the fame trainer of Jordan, Kobe, Wade

He help Arenas come back from two Knee operations (then Gilbert....well you know what happened)

He helped Wade recover from the 1.5 seasons of injuries after 2006 Finals MVP run

He's the guy who keeps Mamba chasing Jordan even after 14 seasons..

He is arguably the best trainer out there

@Magic Phil, Unh, unh Grover is a miracle worker, MJ was never out other than the second season when he tore his ligament. Why is that. Tim Grover! Ask Kobe Bryant about him. how many times has Kobe been out. If Tim Grover says TMAc is ready to play, I'd bet the Rent on it. This is a once in a lifetime deal man. If TMac is healthy this is better than getting Princess Jimmy. The Lakers can blow this ISH if they want and they just might end up failing to 3-peat because they lose to a team that gets him. Whats a Freaking couple of Million. I love Fish dearly, but if you could pay to bring Fish back
you have to be out of your Freakin mind not to invest a couple of Million to see if TMac can play. Shoot you had freakin Luke sitting up there for 3 years getting paid millions and not doing a damn thing.

This is a GREAT article!

Your off season grade right now is a D. Move it to A+ and steal up a player that everyone is shortselling.

It's the Buffet way... buy when everyone else sells... do it.

Do I need to email the FO??

Whoever Kobe wants is fine by me!

Can we have T-Mac, Bell, and UPS?

IS TMAC A DEFENSIVE LIABILITY? Posted by: Bob Dylan | July 13, 2010 at 03:29 PM
He's not a defensive stopper if that's what you mean. But he's better than any of the alternatives.

Still need a backup center, however.

T Mac won't be a defensive liability b/c he is a healthy athletic guy who can effectively play 3 positions....

Second unit

Blake, Raja, T Mac, LO, Kurt Thomas /Sheldon Williams, Luke, Sasha, Ebanks, Character

LEWSTRS...

Darth probably has bigger fish to fry than me...LOL!! As you can see, he's trying to use damage control now about "The Decision" and Dan Gilbert's comments. The NBA is under the glare of public scrutiny like no other major league. In a league that is supposedly hemorrhaging money, we see owners spending money like drunken sailors on leave once the free agency period opened. The ugly word collusion being bandied about. I don't think any league shares a "love-hate" relationship with its fans more than the NBA. I hope that we will be talking about the upcoming 2011-2012 season next summer instead of anguishing about a lockout.

"I Bleed Purple and Gold"...

I like your Sasha trade proposal.

LA - I know you're in love with T-Mac but I just can't get on that bandwagon.

LAL818,

I'm sold. We need to hire this guy to be on the Lakers training staff.

justanothermambafan,

The thing is Darth Stern is not a cylon, but he did have a plan. And that plan was to turn LeBron James into this generation's Michael Jordan in terms of Jordan being a marketing juggurnaut. However, LeTraitor's narcissism and possee of enabling hoodrats destroyed that possibility. LeTraitor is hated now everywhere but Miami and Miami is neither a top tier market, nor a basketball town--it doesn't have an underdog appeal nor a world-class city appeal. It's a fricken tourist and retirement destination. That's it.

In short, LeTraitor not only screwed Dan Gilbert, he screwed Darth Stern and Darth Stern doesn't have a backup plan. If LeTraitor had gone to New York, Chicago, even L.A. or stayed in Cleveland, Darth Stern could have made this work, but colluding to go to Miami after he clearly quit in the Cavs-Celtics series? PUUULLLLEEEEAAASSSEEE!!!

LeBron's brand is tainted. Even if he wins a Championship (NOT!) it'll be tainted because that Championship will belong first to Dwayne Wade.

Now, what is Darth Stern going to do? This guy has the G.E. mentality of "expand or die." Well, Darth Stern just lost his dark apprentice in expanding the global brand of the NBA.

Problems will arise as a result.

And the only thing left standing will be the Lakers continued Greatness.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Some say TMac, Some say Bell...
Who will be here, only Mitch will tell...
Both have good and some bad...
When it's all done, we'll all be glad...

At least the Lakers do it right...
Dr. Buss pays for our might...
In Miami, they do it different...
Now all of Cleveland in discontent...

No matter what, no matter when...
We will all see how it is then...
The Lakers win another one...
Then all in Miami will eat the gun...

So let Mitch do what Buss pays him to...
Keep Kobe happy and work he'll do...
Be happy all, no need to fight...
You will like what you see on opening night...

Now don't get cocky. I love a lot of people, Lass, Mari. G. East Coast Jessie. Lol! Just playing with you Justa. My only love in life is Mari. G....But you can be my BFF.

>>>What more do U want from a young player,

How about greater than 28% on his 3 point shots.

That's what Shannon shot for the playoffs this year.

LTLF - good point about Ron's change of reputation once arriving here. Still I would have concerns. I'm sure glad I'm not the GM!

So let Mitch do what Buss pays him to...
Keep Kobe happy and work he'll do...

GOD$%#@%*( FINALLY! A voice of reason in all this ISH. Don't matter what I say, Don't matter what we say, It's the Buss way or the Highway.
But Mitch Pleassssssse pst. pst. One word...TMAC, LMAO!!!

Open letter to Mitch Kupchak:

On behalf of Lakers Nation...PLEASE...find a way to bring Shannon Brown back to the Purple & Gold.

Back when Julius Erving was in his prime, the "Dr. J Rules" (which came out way before the Jordan Rules) was that the opposing team was forced to call timeout if Dr. J dunked 2x in a row, because those dunks would FIRE-UP the frenzied crowd and create an absolute tsunami of momentum that would sweep the Sixers onto victory.

Shannon is obviously not Julius Erving. But, what he brings to the table is the same sort of EXCITING sky-walking athleticism that can electrify the Staples Center crowd, and more importantly, put that "Dr. J" kind of momentum-building or momentum-shifting charge into his own team!

How valuable is that? Have we not seen how the cumulative effect of adding together, seemingly small momentum-building plays, ultimately leads to winning the biggest games?

Yes, the NBA is a business, but it is also athletic entertainment at the highest level. Dr. Buss knows this well. He has been in the vanguard of the merge/meld between sports and entertainment for as long as he has owned the Lakers.

Shannon was injured and not at his best towards the end of last season. He deserves a chance to show how much his game has grown, and how good he really can be with more time on the court, in the absence of Farmar.

Don't forget, it takes time for a new player to assimilate into The Triangle offense. The Lakers and Brown have already invested several years of time together. Please don't give up on him now.

Picture Shannon streaking down the sideline, receiving a perfect lob pass from Steve Blake, and throwing it down over the head of some quivering Celtic. Imagine how that would fire-up the Staples crowd and his teammates.

Actually, we don't have to. He has already done such high-flying things numerous times. We NEED his youth and athleticism as the rest of the squad gets older. Please give him a chance to show what else he can do.

Please bring back Shannon Brown.

P & G R

longtimelakerlover - I was being a little tongue in cheek. I should've written it with the sarcasm font on.

Can we have a chat when Mamba and justa have their fight...

I am ready, got my popcorn and licorice...and of course a cold Coke...

Matt Barnes is still available. Is he worth looking in to? He's from the LA area isn't he?

>>>What more do U want from a young player,

ROFLMFAO!!! OH SWEET JESUS! HAHAHAHAH! PREACH LONGTIME PREACH! Mannnn! I'd never want to go against you in a debate, you'd kick my @zz up the stairs and then back down!

>>>Guys, a point of advice... the economy and therefore the league is not what it
>>>used to be and it will only get WORSE over the next few years. Don't get
>>>greedy and don't get stupid.

Seriously. Tell that to Richard Jefferson while you're at it.

Hey, if we get Bell and Barnes, we could rival the Thuggets, ha, ha!

Aha...even Obi-Wan Mark Medina does the double post...LOL

Keep up the great work Obi-Wan...

I'M GOING TO GET A BIG MAC & WHEN I COME BACK, AFTER EATING MY SNACK...Mitch this is to you...DON'T MAKE ME HAVE A PANIC ATTACK, JUST SIGN TMAC, JACK!!

>>>Mitch, get it done.
>>>
>>>Your off season grade right now is a D.

WTF?!?!??!

He only signed the best unrestricted free agent PG on the market and re-signed the one player the Lakers NEEDED to keep.

Mitch, your offseason grade is a B+ right now.

Sign either Bell or TMac, and it's up to an A.

Throw in a backup big and it's up to an A+

Why, I mean WHY are you trippin about signing are not signing T-MAC? Hell getting a player like T-Mac would be one of the BEST signings of the offseason. Quit all the petty conversation, regarding injuries, the man is an OUTSTANDING talent. Please haters don't get it twisted, let Brown walk and get ready for the 3PEAT. "SIGN T-MAC TODAY" Maybe we can get a T-MAC BUS.

>>>"I Bleed Purple and Gold"...
>>>
>>>I like your Sasha trade proposal.

Uhhh. He didn't make a Sasha trade proposal. He just made some vague statement about trading Sasha for a backup big.

Name the big.

Name the team that is willing to trade them for Sasha.

Try to keep it realistic.

About a week ago, you could have proposed Sasha for Michael Beasley and it would have been realistic. Now, not so much.

The article on Grover and Tmac was written in 2009. Is there any credibility that Tmac is still training with him. We all know how the 09-10 season went for Mr. McGrady after his rehab with Grover.

I'm not discounting McGrady yet, but I'm also not sold yet either.

Can anyone verify that he is still training with Grover?

Hopefully by 5:30, justa and mamba will be wrestling each other on the ground. How much are tickets for this event?

MM

The Lakers could get Bell and T Mac for the price of Shannon ...let him walk ....Shannon is very athletic but not a proven scoring option off the bench (avg shooter, avg passer, - avg defender) . Shannon wanted to get what he felt he was worth...Blake is his replacement....Kobe will need a backup who is productive enough to keep him well rested. T Mac would provide the offensive punch off the bench the Lakers will need to beat an eastern power house in the finals....no way Mitch should keep Sasha and Shannon and right now Sasha's expiring contract is of more value....

Tracy McGrady in limited action w/ NYK - take into consideration he hadn't played in about a year

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQEclPXFac0&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-EmDpQyIuY&feature=related

He wisely shut it down when the realizing the knee needed more strengthening.... since then he has been training w/ Tim G ....with two or months of training and a Laker training camp he could add tremendous punch off the bench.

wow see now guys are talking except longtimelakerlover because he cant get on the wagon...

i mean just stop, think and see what the logical answer is about TMAC!!

@justa i dont think youll take me in a fight, i trained Roy Jones Jr and tought him how to Box lol

second i like shannon but TMAC is more willing to play for LAL who would you rather want...

mamba24 summed it all up for me basically his the only person that gets me and the laker team. hands down!

jon hope that was enought about TIM G lol

LTLF -

Hahahaha...Richard Jefferson didn't want to play 82 games for 15 mil next year so he opted out...He was looking for a deal like his best friend Luke Walton...6 mil for sitting on the bench...

J/K...you know I love Luke...now get that back fixed and earn your money...

Great update on the Lakers during free agency this off season. I really would like to see the Lakers bring in McGrady and I am kinda surprised the front office has yet to contact him. It really does seem like McGrady wants to join the purple and gold. I have also wrote about the Lakers's recent moves on my blog (pardonmybias.com). Here is a direct link to my post: http://pardonmybias.com/d-fish-returns-to-a-familiar-lake/

Feel free to comment and start a healthy Lakers or NBA conversation!

OMG lewstrs!!! LMAO!!!! But you'd have a loooong wait. I'd never fight with Mamba24. He's one of my best BFF's, so not gonna happen! The comment about a fight was actually directed at LAL, and he didn't respond so I'm thinking I win! LOL!!

MM!!!!!!!!

MM!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a chat tonight?

HEY...

Am I the only one that noticed that the link to AttackAthletics is almost a year old? It's dated 09.29.09. It refers to TMac being ready to start last season with the Rockets, and as we know, that didn't happen. We need to know what type of shape TMac is in today. Kobe should play him one on one and let the FO know if he's good to go.

And don't get it twisted. I think a TMac who is at 70% of his glory days would be a tremendous asset to The Show. Personally, I'm rooting for it to happen.

Hopefully by 5:30, justa and mamba will be wrestling each other on the ground. How much are tickets for this event?

MM

Et tu, MM?? Well I tell ya what. If you want to see it, it could be arranged BUT it will cost you a couple tickets to the ASG in LA with you. One for each of us. What say you now?

LAL - ahhhh now I see your response. So - you think you can take me huh? I don't know about that. Us girls fight dirty.

How can you stop the defending Champs with a line-up, take notes now
Fish-Kobe- Pau- Drew- Thriller (BENCH) LO- Blake-Bell-TMAC- DJ. HELL the second team will beat down the first team regularly. I would love to see the Pratices.

@ Tim-4-Show - can you please contact the FO?? lol if so, do it ASAP, we need to sign TMAC before he goes away.

CMON MITCHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! do the right thing for our laker organization! we all know you can!

@justa - no issues in the locker room for lakers. plz stop that nonsense lol :P

Tracy McGrady # 3 L.A. Lakers- "LakerMac"
