Lakers rookies get tested against Sacramento Kings

Lakers second-round draft choices Derrick Caracter and Devin Ebanks were tested against the Sacramento Kings.

Though the Lakers lost, 90-84, Tuesday night in an NBA Summer League game at Thomas & Mack Center, Caracter and Ebanks continued to impress, even with the Lakers falling to 0-4.

Caracter, who was averaging 17.7 points and 10.7 rebounds) before the game, had 14 points on six-for-nine shooting, five rebounds and four blocked shots.

Caracter, a 6-9, 275-pound forward-center drafted 58th, went up against Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins, the fifth overall pick.

Cousins, a 6-11, 270-pound center out of Kentucky, had 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Caracter blocked two of Cousins' shots.

Ebanks, a 6-8 small forward selected 43rd, had 12 points and three rebounds.

He faced small forward Omri Casspi, who was a rookie with the Kings last season.

Casspi had seven points.

Are these 2 really good?
That's good news!

And you call this work? Covering the Summer League while in Vegas.

Fatty - Wishing he was there covering the Summer League like BT

Poor fatty - not everyone can have the dream job... :)

Magic Phil,

Yes, they are both really good. Caracter should've gotten more touches in the post, but our guards were bent on gunning it from outside. If Caracter would've gotten as many touches as Cousins(who btw, didn't have a good FG percentage in getting his 19 pts and was guarded most of the game by Caracter), I've no doubt that he would've had a more dominant performance against a guy that every commentator and analyst is raving and gushing over. Ebanks played outstanding defense against one of the Kings best player in Omri Casspi, holding him to 7 pts. For all the hype and talk surrounding the all the bigs drafted before him, Caracter seems to be on par if not better then all of them so far in summer league, which is saying a lot about the guy who was two draft picks away from being Mr. Irrelevant. Yes, he's been foul prone and makes silly mistakes, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. Losing and keeping the weight off will make him even more dangerous along with being tutored by Kareem(if he's still available), Pau, Drew and LO. The reason I love this kid's play and effort so far is because of his troubled background and where he fell to us in the draft. He seems to playing with a chip on shoulder and proving to other teams that they made a mistake passing on him, sort of like DeJuan Blair last year. It will be real interesting to see if Caracter develops into something special and how many players drafted before him don't pan out. Real the stories and articles about how he went from one of the most highly recruited HS players, to his fall out at Louisville, redemption at UTEP and now possibly making the team by playing his butt off. That's impressive to me. He's making the most of his opportunity. Mitch may not be the same kind of talent evaluator as Jerry West(who is?), but he's learned from him.

I just love Ebanks defense, hustle, energy and underrated offensive game. He will bring more length and defensive energy off the bench and anything he contributes offensively will be gravy. He can't go wrong learning under Kobe and Ron Ron.

Where is J Critt? Saw this on a player site......

"Javaris Crittenton won't play for the Lakers summer-league team as he continues to recover from a foot injury.
Crittenton is still suspended for his gun antics with Gilbert Arenas and his foot has been injured since he was hurt in April of 2009, and underwent surgery last October."

Another thing is, Cousins definitely showed more respect to Caracter than he did another high draft pick in Monroe. Cousins and Monroe were jawing at each other all game yesterday and Cousins basically had his way with him. There was no such trash talk in the game today as both big men went at each other with Caracter blocking two of Cousins shots and Cousins getting one on Caracter. Call it mutual respect.

Great win for the National League. It was about time! go Dodgers!!!!

Mitch has done a great job so far with the two excellent draft picks, and, lets hope Kobe can persuade Raja to earn his first ring.

This was from T Macs site dated April 15th, 2010

"Our season ended yesterday and now its time for a small break to rest up before I get back to rehab and training. I’m going to work hard all summer long getting ready for next season. I saw a report this morning that I was going to retire, and let me set record straight, I am not retiring. I’ve got more game in me, and you’ll see it on the court next year. Thanks to all my fans for all your support. No matter where I end up next season, I’ll be ready!"

TMac is ready to go. And the Laker Nation should be ready to welcome him!

Tim-4-Show -

T-Mac rehabbed with Tim Grover last summer too and was supposed to be a different player this year... but wasn't. He looked as bad as ever. Tim Grover is a good trainer but he's not a damn time machine. Sometimes when you lose it, you just lose it.

Here's my proof that he worked with Grover last summer...

http://www.attackathletics.com/

I’m not sure I approve of how Kobe researches free agent talent. First Ron Artest and now Raja Bell, two guys that he has had altercations with in the past. I’m afraid next year someone might decide they would like to impress Kobe and play with the Lakers, and they’ll just hit him over the head with a two by four.

Next two guys Kobe meets with to discuss coming; Matt Barnes and Chris Rock.

Guys do you realize what the most sources of T-Mac coming to LA is from?

Bleacher Report!

Now not to degrade that site they have good opinions on it but again it is what it is: OPINIONS!

The latest about T-Mac is nothing more than speculation from a fan who claims he heard this or that. No offense but that is less solid than what twitter would be (even if it's from an ESPN source like Bucher or Adande). Heck those idiots in ESPN reported that Wade was "leaning" towards Chicago only to have him go back to South Beach.

At the time being the only real solid evidence of another player added to the Lakers is Raja and that's at most mere speculation only difference was that it was confirmed that Kobe would go and talk to Raja. That doesn't mean Raja is coming to the Lakers even though I would like him to because he is a way much better shooter/defender than even Sasha or Shannon was.

If we get T-Mac that's fine consider the source first. Heck you could find on yahoo sports and espn that Bell is meeting with Kobe. What about news about Tracy McGrady? Nowhere to be seen in the major news sites.

And by the way, T-Mac's numbers were career lows in the following categories:

PP40 min
TS%
TO rate
FG%
3PT%
RPG

He's never been a good FT shooter and he clearly lacks the explosion he once had. Plus, he's never been a winner and has no tolerance for pain. He's constantly injured and even when he's not injured, he's only interested in about half the games he plays in. If Lamar Odom drives people crazy on here, just imagine what T-Mac would do.

Just say no to McGrady!

puddle,

>>> Just say no to McGrady!

No.
No.
And No.

In short, No.

Like I said, visit and watch him workout before talking about bringing him in... if he's half of what he was, sign him... if he's washed up, move on.

However, to just pass without knowing would be negligent IMO

I am a UTEP student and watched Caracter play nearly every game last season. Throughout the season there was literally no one who could guard him one on one including 7 ft higher draft picks Hassan Whiteside and Jerome Jordan who were in our conference. Every game teams were double teaming him and forcing him into bad passes though ( probably his weakest area). Also he seems to have rid himself of any at all character issues he previously had. I really really hope to see him signed to my favorite team! I feel he can contribute more than Mbenga or Powell.

wow for the people that think caracter is better than cousins, slap ur self, and fast.... when it gets to NBA , cousins will be the one dominating games unlike, caracter, trust me i know, cousins steps up his game the bigger the competition

Lakers lost Farmar (good riddance), Adam M., Shanon B. and DJ Mbenga. In came Blake, the 2 draft picks in Character and Ebanks, and probably Raja B. And, if the rumor mills is true... where they place T-Mac in the rooster? Reserved?

Both the yahoo sports and ESPN lost their credibilities in reporting the truth. Who would believe them?

rafael montes- you can say that again.

Minny trades Al Jefferson to Utah for an almost bench warmer and two draft picks;

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5376884

So, basically, they traded KG for a couple of mid first rounders.

dnat,

Welcome and thanks for that post about Caracter. I believe most teams avoided drafting him because of his character issues, despite his obvious talent. So far he is doing and saying all the right things as his impressive play has him getting a spot on the roster of our favorite team. I just took a look again at all the guys at his position that were drafted before him and right now he's played better than all them(Cousins the exception, but barely)and may end up better in the long run, if he stays in condition and continues to learn from the best(Kobe and Pau). However, the only downside if there is one, is that he'll be playing behind a deep front line composed of Pau, Drew and LO. But, he could definitely contribute off the bench this season. I can imagine him starting on other teams if he were not drafted by LA. For example, he would probably be a better fit alongside Dwight Howard, but the Magic selected Daniel Orton instead, who had a horrible summer league and was even kicked out of a game. Caracter would compliment Howard very well with his willingness to bang, rebound and ability to finish around the basket. Caracter reminds me of Al Jeffereson with his ambidextrous post moves and improved mid range shot.

Are we likely to have more than 13 players this year?

Any way Kobe gives up money to bring in Raja (if necessary)?

Any way Kobe lets Shaq come off the bench (if its even possible)?

When will we know if the rookies are signed (i say take both)?

Of the vetran's minimum players that are likely to sign with lakers ..which ones do you like the most?....and when's the latest the lakers can pull the trigger?

Thanks..

"Any way Kobe gives up money to bring in Raja (if necessary)?"

It's getting so tiring people saying this BS about Kobe giving up money when the CBA rules forbid players from doing such things unless they can be a free agent.

If Shannon Brown was smart he would accept a short 2-3 year contract with Lakers at slight raise to refine his game. He would then be in place to win more rings , improve his game and position himself to take Sasha's spot. Yes Sasha is free agent next year and will be pressed to improve and then asked to take paycut. With Brown onboard Lakers will have upper hand in Sasha's negotiations and Brown ready to take over if Sasha goes way of Farmar.

It was a question...didn't know the rule existed. Chill out bro..world is not so bad... Or if really all gets to much cyanide is always an option.... Its a game bro...not world peace here. supposed to be fun..remember? lol Anyway...i appreciate that u answered one of my questions. Thanks..i think.

WAS IT RAJA SHOOTING HAND / WRIST THAT WAS INJURED......SOMEONE ANYONE

was Raja's non shooting hand

Thanks yo.....well that sounds like a pretty good pick up then....im down......not down with this T-Mac hype......we already have our own injure prone dude that never plays and collects......his name is Luke.....

Yep, it was Raja's left wrist that had surgery.

sorry Joel but we have had posters who kept asking Kobe to take a pay cut or Pau to take a pay cut to allow us to sign this guy or whoever.

Even if KB and Pau took like $2.5 million pay cuts each it wouldn't make them closer to signing anyone. The cap for teams to sign players is $58 million and the Lakers are at $80+ million so even if they could take a pay cut a measly $2.5 million each won't get them to signing a certain player closer.

All it would do is cut the luxury tax for Buss.

The above response goes to any future poster who wants KB or any other Laker to take a pay cut.

As for your other questions Joel:

"Are we likely to have more than 13 players this year?"

No. Buss wants to have the least amount of players to sign to play as least of the luxury tax as possible. Besides only 12 players can be active for a game so even the 13th will be wearing a suite instead of a warm up jersey even.

"Any way Kobe lets Shaq come off the bench (if its even possible)?"

Unless Shaq comes for the veterans' minimum salary and the Lakers really need depth at center it is most likely that Shaq will not do that.

"When will we know if the rookies are signed (i say take both)?"

For training camp anytime after Summer League is over. To make the actual team you'll know by opening night in October.

"Of the vetran's minimum players that are likely to sign with lakers ..which ones do you like the most?....and when's the latest the lakers can pull the trigger?"

If it's minimum salary then Jamaal Magloire for back up center depth. Otherwise Bell or T-Mac though Bell is the top option over T-Mac with what's left with the Mid-Level Exception.

There's your answers Joel. Sorry for seemingly being a piss earlier on.

King Wade-Queen Bosh-Princess James ganged up to beat Kobe and the Lakers making a financial sacrifice to make it feasible. Riley & the Heat have done a great job filling in the holes rapidly: Haslem, Mike Miller, Z and they are going after Bell & T-Mac.within Cap space. MJordon did the same to keep Pippen. Kobe, Gasol & Bynum need to make a combined sacrifice of about $8 million for 2010-11 season to get below the cap for a strong bench to beat Heat/Celtics/Magic for a 3-peat. Kobe can recover a
$5 M sacrifice with post 3-peat endorsements. Front office needs to move swiftly to get Bynum backup (Dampier/Brad Miller/Shaq/DJ) and T-Mac/Bell. Round out bench with Ebanks & Caracter and ensure 3-peat!!!

Always liked George Steinbrenner, dude was hilarious on Seinfeld.

ross -

As KB Blitz said, players who are locked into contracts CANNOT TAKE A PAY CUT! That Kobe, Gasol, et al. should take pay cuts has been suggested ad nauseum on this site, and yet it is impossible for them to do so. If Kobe was ever going to give the Lakers a discount, it would have had to have been when he was signing his new extension. But would you take a pay cut if it meant your company could bring in some more talented workers? I doubt it. It wouldn't matter anyway. Lakers aren't under the cap. The most they can offer a player is the Mid-Level Exception, around $5.8 million per year. So on many levels, your suggestion that they take pay cuts for the good of the team doesn't make sense.

As far as free agents go.....

Raja Bell - PRIORITY #1 MUST SIGN- just imagine Kobe and Bell together defensively. Bell with the second team is a huge upgrade. Capable shooter who can stretch the defense. Wrist Injury not a concern.

Shannon Brown- PRIORITY #2 SHOULD SIGN-everyone should remember he hurt his shooting hand late in the year. Improved steadily and there's something to be said about the electricity he brings with his hops.

Josh Powell- PRIORITY #3 PLEASE SIGN- Kobe's friend, nuff said.

DJ Mbenga- PRIORITY #4 MAYBE SIGN- Just for the reason, Miami will probably sign him and actually give him some meaningful minutes.

T-Mac- PRIORITY #5 YES TAKE A CHANCE - some team will offer him more money, but if he's serious about playing with Ron and Kobe for a ring... Injury prone-big concern.

Shaq- NO CHANCE- As per Jerry Buss and Kobe Bryant

So you have the signed 9

1. Kobe
2. Gasol
3. Byunum
4. Odom
5. Artest
6. Fish
7. Sasha
8. Blake
9. Luke

4 more players needed

You have to think that at least 1 of the rookies will be signed, maybe both.

That leaves 2 or 3

Raja Bell and T-Mac will probably sign bigger contracts with other teams
Shannon Brown will find a suitor for more money than the Lakers offer

This leaves us

Josh Powell and DJ Mbenga with Brown still being an option if only one rookie is signed.

So unless Bell or T-Mac do something extraordinary and take chicken feed for a paycheck
The Lakers are essentially finished with free agency.

HERE IS NEXT YEARS LINEUP

1. Kobe
2. Gasol
3. Byunum
4. Odom
5. Artest
6. Fish
7. Sasha
8. Blake
9. Luke
10. Mbenga
11. Powell
12. Caracter/Brown
13. Ebanks/Brown

"The Opposite," Season 5, Episode 22, May 19, 1994

The episode began when Costanza realized that every instinct he'd ever had turned out to be wrong.

"Goodbye, tuna on toast. Hello, chicken salad on rye ... UNTOASTED!"

He then introduces himself to fellow diner-goer Victoria with these famous words, "My name is George. I'm unemployed and I live with my parents."

He then introduces himself to fellow diner-goer Victoria with these famous words, "My name is George. I'm unemployed and I live with my parents."

Through her uncle, Costanza obtained an interview with the Bronx Bombers.

In the initial interviewing stage, Costanza met with Mr. Cushman.

Costanza informs him of his previous firings for having sex in his office with the cleaning woman, and quitting over not being allowed to use his boss' private bathroom.

Cushman was so impressed, he then introduces Costanza's to the Boss, and although many of you might state that Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Joe Torre were the start of the Yankees dynasty, it was Costanza who was there first, and certainly deserves a place in Monument Park.

Mr. Steinbrenner: Nice to meet you.
George: Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past 20 years you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduce them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego!
Mr. Steinbrenner: Hire this man!

(George tells Jerry he's employed by the Yankees)

Jerry: Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle ... Costanza?!

Costanza is certainly a Yankees legend.

Here's the deal.... get rid of Luke, Powell, Mbenga, Brown..
Sign Ebanks, Caracter, Green, and Frank Robinson.
Artest
Gasol
Bynum
Bryant
Fish

Bench...Ebanks/Green
Odom/Caracter
Caracter
Shasha/Bell
Blake/Robinson

That's 13....and if we can't get Bell...i'd take a good look at DJ Strawberry...Bell, Shasha, Green, and Ebanks and Caracter...now there's a line up we can go to when we need to go small and mega 3 point power. Robinson brings some future to the PG position. HE's 6'4" wit talent and Fish might have a 3 year deal....but at 37 after this year...father time is coming and a better roll will we with the team..but not on the floor.

Dang it, I am late again. Did i miss out on all the fun?

Go National League, always root for them only cause the Dodgers are in that conference.

I'm a huge movie lover specially when it comes to vampires and werewolves. Except that twilight crap.

If any one saw the Blade trilogy maybe you guys could see my point. My point is this. . .

In Blade1 he battled a lone strong vampire that wanted to be a super vampire; to take the title from his elders. That translates to Dwight Howard calling himself and identifying himself as Superman. His elder was Shaq who claimed that title; or at least had it tattoed.

End result, Blade got some juice from a friend who also fought some vamps (DFish who made those big 3's in Orlando) to win the fight/title.

Blade 2, he faced a vampire that was neither kind to human or vamp(Paula Pierce's lack of humility), it was all about itself. At the end he had to fight; in my opinion his strongest foe in the trilogy. It was a hard fought fight, but Blade won. Towards the end Blade took his enemies daughter/sister to the rising sun. That translates to Kobe taking Artest to the Gold after their intense matchups the year before.

In Blade 3, lol, called Blade Trinity, he needed the help of two other vampire killers. But I'm going to twist it around to make my point. In order to kill Blade(Kobe) you need 3 top players to beat him, to win that ring.

They have their Parker Posey in Wade; who she recruits everyone else. They have their Triple H in Bosh to secure their big man status. But of course, they are missing the main villain; and that is Dracula, Lebronze James.

Whats the end result? Of course Blade wins, but only after he gets help. What is KB24 doing now? Recruiting those slayers of all that is unholy. Specially if its an unholy Trinity.

Who are going to be those players who can align w/ Kobe to be our Trinity? Thats the question that remains

Yeah i am guaranteeing a Lakers 3eat. I dont guarantee things when i am not sure. Let Miami have their fake 3; can they beat our big 3?

Not likely since every team thus far wants to have their own Big 3. Ask the Mavericks, Jazz and Kings.

Pau Gasol/Andrew Bynum/ Lamar Odom

If anyone cares, i would love to compare Kobe to the Karate Kid Trilogy as well, lol. No seriously I would.

Is AMMO PLAYING IN THE SUMMER LEAGUE??

-Thanks,

Johnny P

GOOOOoooooOOOO LAKERS

To all you "SO CALL TALENT EVALUATOR BLOGGERS" You're missing the point with this analysis on TMac. He can really make the different in winning next years title; the man has a chip on his shoulder. Motivated to prove everyone wrong about no heart, wanting a ring by all means.

Don't believe the HYPE about his skills are gone, only diminished a little from injuries just like many other star players. This team is loaded with superior talent were he doesn’t has to carry the team, just go out and create HOLY HELL on the court within the system.

The best OFFENSIVE skilled player on the market that's wants to bring his talents to the Lakers for PENUTS, Quit TRIPPIN it's a NO BRAINER.

Truer words have never been spoken my brother! So all you haters, DON'T BE WHACK WE NEED TMAC!
mamba24

MITCH PLEASE GET TMAC OR I'LL HAVE A PANIC ATTACK!!!

MITCH DON'T MAKE ME GO DRAMA PUNK ON YOU! LOL! PLEASSSSSE!
OH SWEET JESUS MITCH, WE NEED TMAC!!!!!!

A MAN WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAZY NOT TO SIGN TRACY MCGRADY!!!!!!

OK MITCH THIS IS MY BEST OFFER: I believe in TMAC so much that I am willing to give up Mari. G. The most beautiful Being in all of Creation Whose Beauty is only exceeded by her Wisdom, Patience & Understanding – If you sign TMAC.

Just to clear the smoke a bit, Tmac is one of Kob's best friends. Aside from the usual 5-15 ppg off the bench avg. wildcard and maybe get double teamed, his chemistry to the team would be such that it could be sort of like when the Lakers had Ronny Turiaf off the bench. T-mac would be cheering on a lot. Nobody should even put Luke and T-Mac in the same sentence, and I'm sure his unjury is overstated having his rehab and what not. Two totally different career paths! LOL, TMAC 7x all-star, Luke perennial underachiever. Except tmac would be creating his own shots as opposed to getting in the low block all the time like luke would do. Tactically it's not a bad trade because you never know how many points he could give you, but chances are he won't be going like 0-4 in the playoffs? PLAYOFFS?! DON'T TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS! like Shannon brown or Farmar at that spot. So if the rotation is what it is right now, Steve Blake, Odom, T-MAC, Sasha, Luke, the draftees, deep, then I have no worries at all. In fact you open up Shannon's spot in the case he doesn't re-sign with the Lakers to give some minutes to eBanks (et al) and let him develop in the system. Tmac would fit right in most likely because unlike the Glove who looked for dribble penetration and didnt really work the system Tmac would take more of a role player position and help getting shots off. All things being considered there is a lot to do in the free-agency and Mitch will have his hands full. The wildcard here is still whether Shannon wants to move elsewhere or not, after that decision gets made all parties will start to work on the rest.

WAIVE LUKE PLEASE. ASK HIM TO RECEIVE LESS MONEY AND TRADE SASHA. GET BELL, BROWN, MBENGA, CARACTER, EBANKS

I had a T-Mac bobblehead once. It had a busted knee and a cracked back right out of the box. Shucks.

I'm sorry Purple Heart...But the strain of trying to get TMAC signed...ROFLMAO!!!
Mamba24/larrY

Good morning!

When all is said and done........

I agree with Troll Man, not much more will change.

I feel Caracter and Ebanks are a lock, because of their potential.

That leaves two to sign. MBenga and Powell. UPS will get an offer that the Lakers can't match.

What I think Mitch is doing is trying to see if he can better MBenga or Powell with the money he has.

Example: See Raja Bell or even Shaq or Kwame Brown. If he can't improve on them, then he has the luxury of waiting, because I think they will still be around for awhile.

Rafael Montes,

Regarding Cousins and Caracter, you may be right. While Cousins is a big time talent(hence, being picked #5 overall), Caracter has also shown that he's very skilled, talented with tremendous potential and upside. Unless I missed it, I don't think anyone here has posted that Caracter is better than Cousins. In their head to head matchup last night, Cousins had 19pts on 8-20 shooting, 12 boards and 2 blocks(he also had 3 assists, which is good), while Caracter finished with 14pts on 6-9 shooting, 5 boards and 4 blocked shots. Cousins clearly did a better job on the glass, including 6 offensive boards, but Caracter was the more efficient scorer and 2 of his 4 blocks were on Cousins. Now if the Laker guards(3 of them actually took more shots than Caracter last night), gave Caracter more touches in the post instead of being gunners, no doubt in my mind that Caracter would've scored a lot more. Cousins skills and play warrants him being chosen #5(maybe should've gone higher), but you can't tell me that there aren't some GMs, coaches and scouts scratching their collective heads for passing on Caracter. There's more than just mumblings around the league that the Lakers may have gotten not just one, but two steals in the draft, and in my mind, Caracter is better than Ebanks right now, although I love Ebanks game too.

Here's another thing to consider. Just a hypothetical question. What if the Kings had drafted Caracter and the Lakers drafted Cousins? With the way both are playing now in summer league, would the outlook on both of these players be the same or different? Would Caracter have a chance to possibly start and star in Sacramento? Or would he play a huge backup role, this being his rookie season? As good as Cousins is right now, would he be able to crack the starting frontline of the Lakers this year? Or would he, like Caracter, come off the bench? My point is, Cousins is going to a situation in Sacramento where he's able to possibly start(even with good players there already in Jason Thompson and Carl Landry), whereas Caracter will be playing behind arguably the most talented frontline in the league. God forbid that anything happens to our starting bigs, but should something happen, I believe Caracter who is 22(wow, he's older than Bynum), will be ready to step in and show why Mitch selected him and why he belongs.

Breaking New!! Fatty's famous 'Free Agent O-Meter' is back on-line again!

I've dug my 'Free Agent O-Meter' out of the closet for the final signings and improved the machine. Its now green, runs on renewable energy and has an Apple based op system. (I plan on getting a tax energy rebate on the improvement costs)

For those not familiar with this incredibly gifted, high-tech machine. It gives you the probability of a Free Agent signing with the Lakers and analysis of all the rumors posted on the net.

Although it has a bad attitude, drinks, smokes, and occasionally cusses, I feel it is just as accurate as any source on the web.

I punched in Shaq, Kwame, Raja, T Mac and got this from 'Fatty's new & improved Free Agent O-Meter'

Shaq - 2% chance on joining the Lakers. Is getting MLE offers; Lakers can't match. Besides, playing for the Vet Min, playing behind Bynum as a bench warmer, and playing on 'Kobe's team', would be too much for the 'Big Pride' too take.

Kwame - 5% chance of joining the Lakers. Several teams are really interested in him but Kwame is demanding MLE type money. At this point, the 'Free Agent O-Meter' started laughing, then quoting an old Red Aurbach line, "If you can't catch the ball, you belong in another sport."

Raja Bell - 33% chance of joining the Lakers. Raja wants to play for a contender AND play in his home area (South Florida). Unfortunately for Raja, those teams can only offer the Vet Min while the Lakers can offer more (1.8 mil) The 'Fatty O-Meter' says for the kid that was never hugged enough by his mom, he will choose Miami to be close to his mommy.

T Mac - 25% chance of joining the Lakers. They will sign him, worried about Luke's back, IF he takes the Vet Min. plays behind Artest, and promises not to jack up 20 three's per night. 'Fatty's Free Agent O-Meter' says IF he doesn't take the Vet Min. then he can suck his 'Big Cowanga' and go play for the Celtics.

Any other free agents you want me to program into the machine, just let me know, and I will only be to happy to do that for you.

Fatty, LOL, whats the machine say about the chances for Kurt Thomas and Shannon Brown?
Oh, while you're at it, hows about Mbenga and Powell?

Lakers finally got draft picks that will more than likely get to play and contribute to team. interesting to watch players like gerald green struggling to find a team after being ranked top player coming out of h.s. just shows u have to work on ur game in nba and not just rely on raw talent. lakers just upgraded their bench big time with caracter and ebanks. these guys are the bizness and 2 of the steals in draft and definitely could have gone in 1st round. looks like they are picking up triangle pretty fast. way to go mitch!!

Art -

Yeah, I'll put them in as soon as he let's me. He's having a 'hissy fit' because I bought the wrong brand of Marlboro's.

How was I supposed to know there was a red top one, I don't smoke?

He picked up this disgusting habit while one of his chips was working in the office at Pelican State Prison. He keeps promising to quit...but you know how that goes?

I gotta go...he gets really violent when he hasn't had his morning smoke. See you later.

I Love my Sacramento Kings. YES!

puddle,

please go back to what ever blog you came from, cuz apperantly you dont know what your talking about...

Tmac is better than RAJA BELL in every single way.. dont let me repeat myself...

Caracter is better than RAJA BELL and his a rookie lol
so is Ebanks, they can achive what RAJON BALL can achive in one season lol the way they are playing...

Dear Mamba24!! i salut you! another day at the blog... hehe hello my friend..

WOW PointForward im impressed!! good job!!

LEWSTERS WHERE IS THE SUVs??? add some more people on the SUV!!!

EVERYONE MAMBA24 is right cmon guys!!! lets GET TMAC!!!! HIS THE BEST OUT OF ALL THE PICS SO FAR!!! we have 2 good rookies comiing in and we need another Good Forward like LO and thats TMAC!! LETS GET THIS DONE MITCHHHH!!!!

stop bashing on TMAC on his injuries and how his prone to injuries and a curse to our team!!!, well guess what your FAVORITE RAJON BALLZ... and i quote "..

Bell, who will be 34 in September, played only six games with Charlotte and Golden State last season because of a torn ligament in his left wrist, but he is a career 41.1% three-point shooter and still capable of solid on-ball defense.

Bell to the Lakers is not a sure thing. He is having discussions with five other teams — Miami, Chicago, San Antonio, Portland and Utah — and will not make up his mind until next week, said his agent, Herb Rudoy.

The best OFFENSIVE skilled player on the market that's wants to bring his talents to the Lakers for PENUTS, Quit TRIPPIN it's a NO BRAINER

WOW 2phatt couldnt have said it better myself... and the tear falls :'(... very well done my friend, you have great knowledge in the game of basketball...

I still think the Lakers should trade Sahsa for draft choices and use money saved to re sign Brown. I could see Sasha playing for the Knicks or Nets.... Teams would want the expiring contract.

>>>I’m not sure I approve of how Kobe researches free agent talent. First Ron
>>>Artest and now Raja Bell

So what makes you think Kobe researched these guys? I don't think the front office would appreciate it if Kobe went off trying to recruit guys that they didn't want. I'll wager that the front office met with Kobe and discussed several players they were interested in and asked for his opinion.

Basically, I think "the Lakers wanted Bell" preceded "Kobe contacts Bell". Basically, since the Lakers don't have much to spend, Kobe wants to do what he can to persuade some players that their best chance of a ring is to team up with him. Being welcomed by the clear leader of the team (and the best player in the NBA) probably lends a lot to the recruiting process.

>>>I still think the Lakers should trade Sahsa for draft choices and use money
>>>saved to re sign Brown. I could see Sasha playing for the Knicks or Nets....
>>>Teams would want the expiring contract.

I chose this post, but really this is a response to several posters who still don't seem to understand the nature of the CBA.

You say "teams would want the expiring contract.", yet you propose to trade Sasha for draft picks. If the team isn't sending back any players in the deal, then they ALREADY HAVE CAP SPACE. The reason you trade for an expiring contract is to GET cap space. The only reason a team would trade to get Sasha's expiring contract is if they had a LONGER contract that they wanted to dump off. And then if you did the trade, you wouldn't reduce salary anyway, so what's the point?

Let me make this very clear.

Sasha and Luke will be on the Lakers' roster at the start of the season. PERIOD. It doesn't matter how much you whine and moan about it, neither of them will be traded off this summer.

And even if the Lakers waived Luke, they'd still have to pay his salary and it would still count against their cap space/luxury tax. The VERY BEST THING that you can hope for is that Luke will get healthy and be productive again. In fact, you should be wishing that he would play REALLY REALLY well. Because if you want the Lakers to TRADE Luke, then he's going to have to get healthy and play well before that will happen. Got it? (probably not - most of the whiners probably ignore most of my posts anyway because they're longer than one sentence).

I feel like an adult driving the car to the family vacation, and the kids are sitting in the back whining "I'm hot", "when are we gonna get there?" "I'm thirsty." "she's touching me!" "am not!" (whine whine whine) And I'm probably going to have to put up with this monotonous whining all summer, because no matter how many people explain the CBA and what it means, some people just don't seem to get it.

Joel,

>>>Are we likely to have more than 13 players this year?

Nope

>>>Any way Kobe gives up money to bring in Raja (if necessary)?

Not possible. It would violate the CBA

>>>Any way Kobe lets Shaq come off the bench (if its even possible)?

Actually, I think Kobe would be fine with it. But Shaq's gigantic ego would never let him either a) accept a minimum contract to ride Kobe's coattails for a ring or b) come off the bench behind Bynum.

>>>When will we know if the rookies are signed (i say take both)?

I'm positive they'll both be signed. But as to whether they'll be on the roster for the season, you'll have to wait until the first day of the season. Somewhere around the end of October or start of November.

>>>Of the vetran's minimum players that are likely to sign with lakers ..which
>>>ones do you like the most?....and when's the latest the lakers can pull the
>>>trigger?

I don't know if ANY of them are likely to agree to sign for a minimum contract, but the ones I like the most are Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas (of the ones they're reportedly trying to sign) plus Shannon Brown, Shaq, Kwame Brown, Brad Miller, Craig Smith, Matt Barnes, Javaris Crittenton, Roger Mason, Josh Boone, Joe Smith, Juwan Howard, Eddie House, and Tracy McGrady. (that list is kinda ranked from more preferred to less preferred)

You're welcome.

Timothy,

>>>Here's the deal.... get rid of Luke, Powell, Mbenga, Brown..

Here's a clue: NO, done, done, maybe.

>>>Sign Ebanks, Caracter, Green, and Frank Robinson

Yes, probably, NO, and NO.

You're welcome.

>>>WAIVE LUKE PLEASE. ASK HIM TO RECEIVE LESS MONEY AND TRADE
>>>SASHA.

GET A LIFE AND STOP POSTING OVER AND OVER AND OVER THINGS THAT WILL NOT POSSIBLY HAPPEN.

OR BETTER YET. GO STAND IN YOUR FRONT YARD AND SCREAM IT IN CAPITAL LETTERS EVERY FIVE MINUTES. I THINK YOUR NEIGHBORS CAN GET SASHA TRADED!!! YEAH!!! THAT'S IT. GO AWAY NOW.

>>>GET BELL, BROWN, MBENGA, CARACTER, EBANKS

1. Only if Bell will take 1.77 mil
2. Only if Bell doesn't sign and Brown will take less than 2 mil
3. maybe
4 yes.

Nemaia,

>>>Here's another thing to consider. Just a hypothetical question. What if the
>>>Kings had drafted Caracter and the Lakers drafted Cousins?

but but but

That would mean the Lakers sucked last season instead of winning the championship.

I DON WANNA PLAY THIS HYPUMTHETICUL GAME.

WAAAAH WAAAAAH WAAAAAAH

>>>>Lakers finally got draft picks that will more than likely get to play and
>>>contribute to team.

First ones since Turiaf and Sasha and Farmar and Walton. Three of those four played and contributed to two rings - the fourth left for more money before getting a ring.

But you know what? I have no problem losing those two first round picks they traded off to get Pau. Completely worth it.

I kinda wish they hadn't sold off last year's first round pick though. Toney Douglas would come in very handy right now.

>>>Tmac is better than RAJA BELL in every single way.. dont let me repeat myself...

Look, much as you respect your own misguided opinion, repeating yourself over and over and over doesn't turn incorrect opinions into facts.

Tracy McGrady is a career 34% shooter on 3-pointers
Raja Bell is a career 41% shooter on 3-pointers

Thus, there is at least one way in which Raja Bell is better than TMac. So your argument is wrong.

TMac is also a career 75% free throw shooter. Bell is better at 79%.

As for overall career shooting percentage, they are equal, at 43.5%.

So there are three things where Tracy McGrady is not better than Raja Bell.

These are facts. Not your biased opinions, but facts.

I would also argue that Bell is a better defender than TMac, but that is an opinion which is subjective and can't be substantiated by facts. We can agree to differ on that issue.

Look. Tracy McGrady was once an elite player. But he hasn't been that good in a long time. Bell stayed productive all the way up to is injury last season. We don't know if he'll have a similar fall-off to McGrady, but at least Bell doesn't have a history of missing a lot of games every season, as McGrady does since 2006-07.

If McGrady is healthy and can stay healthy, then he would provide a really nice scoring punch off the bench. But he can't provide reliable 3-point shooting. And that's one area where the Lakers could really use some improvement. Bell would give them that.
