star falls into tie with Kobe'sEmail Print Comments409 Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Tiger Woods has dropped into a tie with Kobe Bryant as the favorite American sports star.

Woods had held the position alone since 2006, but the Los Angeles Lakers guard moved up from fourth last year to grab a share of the top spot, Harris Interactive said Tuesday.

LeBron James dropped from third to sixth in the company's survey of 2,227 adults conducted online June 14-21, before he left Cleveland to sign with Miami. Retired NBA star Michael Jordan fell from second to seventh.

Yankees captain Derek Jeter moved up one spot to third and quarterback Brett Favre went from ninth to fourth. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning was fifth, up from seventh.

New England quarterback Tom Brady, who failed to make the top 10 last year, was at No. 8, followed by New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr.

NASCAR's Jeff Gordon and St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols dropped out of the top 10.

Among female athletes, sisters Serena and Venus Williams were 1-2, followed by race car driver Danica Patrick, retired soccer star Mia Hamm and tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova.

Volleyball player Misty May-Treanor was tied for seventh with gymnast Shawn Johnson; basketball player Lisa Leslie was ninth; and retired tennis players Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova were tied for 10th.

Dropping out of the top 10 were basketball's Candace Parker, golfer Annika Sorenstam, former tennis star Chris Evert and figure skater Michelle Kwan.

Candace Parker dropping out of the top ten? AW HELL NAW!!!

Candace Parker dropping out of the top ten? AW HELL NAW!!!

What!!! No Albert Pujols...I can accept it just because Kobe is tied with Tiger for first...

What no D(erek) J(eter)! Now that is just WRONG!!

Where the Hell is Floyd Mayweather Jr.!!!!!!!!!!

MM, besides the font size, my comments didn't post. Not sure why. Have you banished me for bringing up Devean George? LOL

Shaq, Tmac and Iverson can be the big three for New Jersey Nets, the looser in the 2010 free agency.

Lopez/Derrick Favors
McGrady/Travis Outlaw/Terrence Williams
Iverson/Courtney Lee/Anthony Morrow/Damion James

Where the Hell is Floyd Mayweather Jr.!!!!!!!!!!

Still hiding from Pacquiao!

First OJ Mayo and now Reggie Bush...

The USC athletic dept has taken a big step backwards...

Now Pat Hayden is AD...and the only leftover in the Trojan Dynasty Days is Lane Kiffin...

Sad day in Trojan Nation...

@ gaijin - ROFLMFAO...yep still hiding and protecting his unbeaten record...

Staples 24,

>>>Shaq, Tmac and Iverson can be the big three for New Jersey Nets, the looser
>>>in the 2010 free agency

Heck, I kinda like that idea.

Looks like Craig Smith re-upped with the Clippers. One more potential front court free agent gone.

No AARP team is complete without Penny.

"Looks like Craig Smith re-upped with the Clippers."

Good for the Clippers, not awesome for us. I would have liked to see him in Purple and Gold.

Go Clippers!!!

"People are passionate about sports brands and entertainment brands," said Sanjay Sood, an associate marketing professor at UCLA. "They want to engage, they want to opt in."

Damn right skippy...

Where the Hell is Floyd Mayweather Jr.!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: MAMBA24 | July 20, 2010 at 02:43 PM

Still hiding from Pacquiao! Posted by: gaijin | July 20, 2010 at 03:02 PM

ROFLMAO!!! NOW THAT REALLY IS SOME FUNNY ISH! Floyd would knock that steroid taking punk out in one round! OH SWEET JESUS! "NANNY PACKATOWEL!!" OH the humanity!!

>>>Good for the Clippers, not awesome for us. I would have liked to see him in
>>>Purple and Gold.

Me too. But OTOH, He and Derrick Caracter are kinda similar. Undersized big body good shooting touch. Caracter might give the Lakers everything Rhino could for half the money. Or not.

I sure hope Caracter turns out to be a second round steal. It would really be nice if they could get a fourth front court player who could play 10-12 minutes a game consistently. Just to rest the big 3 front court players a bit more during the regular season.

And of course, there are two other benefits if Caracter turns out to have some game. He could be a trade asset in February if the Lakers need to shore up any position (possibly combined with Sasha &/or EBanks). Or if he's REALLY good, maybe the Lakers keep him and groom him to be part of the young core that takes over when Kobe & Pau retire.

You can call the Bulls the Jazz of the East...

They signed Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver, and Ron Brewer...

I think they will be the mix this year in the East...

Lopez/Derrick Favors
McGrady/Travis Outlaw/Terrence Williams
Iverson/Courtney Lee/Anthony Morrow/Damion James

Who knows this line up can stop the Heat. Remember Avery Johnson was the Coach that got beaten 1n 06 by the Heat. Payback for him!

This team has some depth.

Nets just recently signed ...

Petro should have been Shaq!
Outlaw shoudl have been Mcgrady!
Morrow should have been Iverson!

A collection of falling stars instead of the rising stars in 2010 free agency.

Nets team is deep with talent and no Superstars, they could used some ex-superstars maybe? Shaq, Tmac and AI... to make them relevant in the news!

Mamba24 mi hermano...I beg to differ...

I would have to say "foul ball" on your post on Manny PacMan...

Do you think Kobe is on the juice, because of his incredible career...

Then don't short change Pacquiao's accomplishments...he is the only saving grace that is reviving that sport...

Funny how all this steriod controversy came when Mayweather entered the other opponent went there...

Hey Floyd, you want to be remembered as the best, put your undefeated record on the line, instead of looking for excuses not to fight...

They're showing the World Championships US Training Camp on NBA TV right now.

Lamar is out there. Must be strange for him working on basketball in the off season.

Lewstrs how much do you know about boxing? Sugar Shane, Macho Camacho, Sonny Liston all were accused of steroids among numerous others. In the Last 5 years at least 20 boxers have had victories taken away because of Steroids. As for being afraid, all Nanny has to do is take the drug test and the fight is on. Now you telling me he's going to give up 25 to 30 million dollars at one shot by refusing to take a drug test if he's clean. Be Real!!! And why would Floyd get in the Ring with some doped up fool for. Take the test Nanny. You want to call yourself a Manny then take the test. Floyd aint adminsitering it. An Independent Agency will. Yet Nanny still refuses. Floyd scared PLeassssse!!
Be real man.

- Pacquio and Mayweather are the best fighers alive today, and I am a fan of both, but let's get this straight, Mayweather did not run from Pacquio. Pacquio turned down the most profitable fight in boxing history over a simple drug test.

Manny vs. Floyd would be Sugar Ray leonard vs. Roberto Duran. Floyd would have Nanny's @zz running around the ring screaming NO Mas!

Mamba24 - Manny agreed to testing, even more stringent than the Olympics, but Floyds corner wants him to give blood before the fight...

This is will weaken Manny and it's against his need to get caught up with the whole scenario...Pacman already conceded to test, but Floyd, especially his father, keeps pushing for more and more...

This is will weaken Manny and it's against his superstition...

Why the new rules...

Kobe you can play in the Finals, but first you must pee in a cup before every game, and then give blood after the series...or let's test Kobe whenever he hits a game winning shot...

Why change the rules, just because you fear Kobe or the Lakers...

It really irks me that great athletes get suspicion instead of the praise they deserve...because they were successful or did something extra-ordinary...

It is obivious...Floyd Mayweather is a PATO....

Duck, Duck, Duck, duck Manny and the fight, but let's throw all these accusations, so he looks like the bad guy...

Floyd should join LeBron in Miami...they would get along great...they can discuss who has a better 'brand.'

Now you telling me he's going to give up 25 to 30 million dollars at one shot by refusing to take a drug test if he's clean.

The question should be presented to Mayweather, not Manny...Manny will have no problems making money fighting...They are lining up to get the pay dirt to fight Manny...all except Floyd of course...

Lewstrs, you won by TKO.

I have been following boxing since 7 years old. My father was a Gold Glove in Manila...He was the one that taught me the sport and self defense....

What does that have to do with Floyd ducking Manny...

OK, I watched some footage of Jeremy Lin. He got some skills (at least at the college and summer league level).

However, so did Jordan.

More importantly, from the excerpts I viewed, he appears to need the ball in his hands too much for a triangle guard.

The exception being that I saw a few deep college 3s that were jump shots off the pass--Steve Kerr/John Paxson/Craig Hodges Ish. Not sure what his shooting percentage was from downtown, but if he's consistent, he's worth signing.

On D, he seemed to be pretty solid (again for college & summer league).

I just wonder if we're in for another Jordan. All the Bashers aside, it wasn't Jordan's lack of talent or skills that was the problem. Jordan's skill set just didn't fit into the triangle. When the Bench Mob was at its peak, they were running in the open court (not the triangle) and Jordan was flourishing.

Jeremy Lin seems to also flourish in the open court. Again, if they can sign him, I'd take the risk. Who knows? The Bench Mob Run and Gun may be back this season with Blake, LO, Sasha, Ebanks and Caracter. Jeremy Lin just might get some playing time too, if he signs with the Lakers.

Giving blood before the test will weaken Manny? What the heck will it do to Floyd? No disrespect Lewsters, I respect you a hell of a lot but when you come out and say Floyd is hiding like he's some lil punk a line got to be drawn my man and facts set on the table. If I was on dope I'd agree to the most stringent Drug test also...AFTER the fight. Once you're declared the winner chances are better than 50/50 that you can litigate that crap forever. Are you saying Manny will be weakened more than Floyd by taking the test? How do you know it won't be the other way around.? I respect you bro and I know I aint gone change your opinion & you're not going to change mine. Lets leave it like this; Manny is one of the Baddest MF's in the world...But so is Floyd! PEACE!

Here are some articles so you can get caught up in the real situation on Floyd not wanting to fight...

7 Reasons Why Manny Pacquiao will beat Floyd Mayweather

Leonard Ellerbe: Negotiations never happened for Floyd Mayweather fight vs. Manny Pacquiao
"I'm not really thinking about boxing right now," Mayweather told The Associated Press while coaching in a celebrity basketball game. "I'm just relaxing. I fought about 60 days ago, so I'm just enjoying myself, enjoying life, enjoying my family and enjoying my vacation."

Floyd Mayweather Ducks Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao already has agreed to an equitable split of the earnings from the megafight, along with extensive drug testing.

Lewstrs, you won by TKO. Posted by: Edwin Gueco | July 20, 2010 at 03:57 PM

ROFLMAO! Damnnnn even my mentor against me. But I got the strongest thing in the world on my side...TRUTH! Laker Truth to be exact! lol!

Marc B,

"All the Bashers aside, it wasn't Jordan's lack of talent or skills that was the problem"

No, it was his attitude that was the problem.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

Breaking news -- Miami Heat just signed 7' 4" Mark Eaton to a 3 year contract, 3rd year is player option...terms not disclosed.

Mamba24 - I will always love you bruh...

I agree to disagree...yes they are both great fighters and I was in Floyd's corner till this fight drama...

Being a fan of the sport, I'm just disappointed that there will be no fight...

How would the NBA be if Lakers and Celtics can't agree to terms and not go to the finals...

Lewstrs you are one classy dude, that's all I got say bro!

The Lakers should consider sitting Bynum out until 3/4 of the way into the NBA season. For the past 3 years Drew has peaked through December/January and slowed down or gotten injured the rest of the way.

Get him out there with 20-30 games remaining in the regular season, let him find his rhythm in offense while building up his conditioning, and he'll be in peak shape mid-way through our playoff run.

A healthy Bynum = No rings for Mount Doom, a.k.a. Miami

wait, they still have boxing?

wait, they still have boxing? Posted by: phred | July 20, 2010 at 04:43 PM
