Lakers' Josh Powell close to signing with the Atlanta Hawks

Josh Powell, who spent the last two seasons with the Lakers, is expected to join the Atlanta Hawks.

Hawks first-year Coach Larry Drew said, "that's about a done deal."

Powell's contract would be for one year for the veteran's minimum of $1.1 million. He'll probably sign it on Monday.

Powell played in 65 games last season and averaged 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Powell was the Lakers' fourth big man, which limited his minutes.

Drew said Powell can provide the Hawks with a lift off the bench at power forward.

I liked JPeazy...I wish him nothing but the best...

Same. Good luck, Josh!

Did anyone see the Lakers on Jimmy Kimmel after they won? Josh Powell was a better dancer than a ball player but nonetheless, Best Wishes to Josh & his family.

CHIRS PAUL TO THE LAKERS

Good luck JP! Now you can whisper "you're the best" in Joe Johnson's ear before every game, LOL. JK. Anyways, thank you for your professionalism and accepting your role on our team. Enjoy Hotlanta!

well... josh.p will have big minutes in atl than lakers.. good luck!

Awww. I'll miss JP for no other reason than he was a good guy.

Guess Luke will lead the team is shots blocked now.

I'm happy he got a contract. Good for him.

That's two rings with the Lakers right? He's got some nice stories to share with his grand kids.

No Chris Paul to the Lakers is ridiculous. Put your fantastic notions away. There's no such thing as a point guard in the triangle and Paul doesn't fit the system. Players who leave the triangle usually struggle adjusting to new teams, Powell will be no different.

Good luck to Josh, I hope the guy has a solid career in the league, makes good money for his family and is as positive an influence for other teams as he was for our's.

Good Luck to you and your family, I know you will have your minutes their than here.

Good luck Josh. Hopefully you can your game with more minutes. You did it before with the Lakers.

Good luck, Josh!

Thanks for everything!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

You're dead on point, look how Fish struggle when he went GS and the Jazz.

Would it surpraise you if Mbenga sign with the Heat, how would that make you feel?

It looks like the Clippers may pass on T-Mac, wondering if he still has game.

I wonder what's the hold up on signing Brown and DJ.

I'm tire of playing FA fantasy, the organization has no MONEY. Let's go to battle with what we have, if were healthy it's no going to matter what everyone else does.

thank you for the memories sir... you'll get more pt in atlanta and the 4 is your natural position; you will do well and expect a lot of respect in the locker room. you're a 2x nba champion now go make some noise and get paid!

Tell of the tape...very promising when he first got to Lakers...played decent defense and got some boards...then like Devan George forgot what got him the minutes fell in love with trying to score got lost on defense and poof...disappeared out of the rotation only to resurface in Atlanta...Good luck!

"Would it surprise you if Mbenga sign with the Heat, how would that make you feel?"

Nothing. Mbenga is a marginal player at best, a roster filler.

Sad to hear that Josh is leaving but I'm glad he'll have an opportunity to play more minutes and maybe impress a team that'll pick him up long-term next year.

Thank you Josh & good luck! We'll miss you!

im glad he's leaving. we needed to get rid of some dead weight. sorry no disrespect, i mean i think he's a cool guy, but in terms of basketball and what the lakers want to accomplish, addition by subtraction.

same goes with dj mbenga
adam morrisson and farmar.
i would include luke walton in there too.

good guys, bad for the team.

glad we cut out most of the dead weight/empty calories/baby fat.

just in: lakers sign Theo Ratliff to veteran's minimum.

Good sign Laker for Ratliff but I wish if we can sign McDyess, they both get good "D" but McDyess gets both D and O

You will be missed but we hope this is a better opportunity for you. Glad you took your "talents to" the A T L. Wish we had a lakers poster of you to remember you by.

I so glad that Ass Hole is gone, him and his Arrogant wife should've been gone a long time ago... I've never met anyone with more arrogance than this man's wife, besides being over weight, poor social skills she's also a control freak. I'm so glad Josh Powell sneaked a few girls in his car while she was expecting a baby. You deserve it you fat pig !!!!
JP you didn't really do much for the Lakers, you were just a training doll. If he stays or he goes it doesn't matter, what ever!!

Josh Powell, you will be missed. Hopefully Atlanta realizes your true talents.
