The Times' T.J. Simers talks to Charles Barkley, who says the Lakers should still favored to win the title next season.

wow for the first time Charles praised the lakers and didnt hop on the Meat bandwagon... this is truly a miracle guys, sir charles is saying something good about the lakerssssss... call guinesssssss world records we need to document this asap lol

So Lakers no longer have a D L team?

Well, much higher odds then that these two rookies actually make the team then.

Too good to just let go....

It pretty much seems to me the Lakers are done for the off season.

They're going to go ahead and sit down and enjoy the past season and hope for the best moving forward.

And of course, by done... I actually mean, signing UPS and inviting the two draft choices with maybe DJ Strawberry to camp and making a decision at that point.

Meanwhile, the Clippers will fly McGrady in evaluate him in person before deciding what to do.

Hopefully the injuries are getting taken care of... but I'm a bit disappointed in Bynum. He should have gotten surgery within a week of the finals and instead opted to let half the off season expire before taking care of his business. That means he'll be more out of shape and less prepared coming into the season.

Shameful.

And I'm a Bynum believer.

I don't know what's going on with Kobe... I can't argue with him, but hopefully he's taken care of what needs to be done.

I would compare Bosh to Karl Malone, Lebron James to Magic Johnson, wade to Clyde Drexler..

Malone, Magic, and Drexler. Not to shabby!

Malone 2nd to Olajuwon/Bosh 2nd to Howard
Magic 2nd to none/Lebron 2nd to none
Drexler 2nd to MJ/ Wade 2nd to Kobe

wow did we even win 1 summer game?? thats sad... but im impressed by our draft picks both of them...

but as far as the lakers image im disapointed, because we should have tooken at least on game! dont you guys agree? the players played good but no win...

Wow. Surprise, surprise. Rick won another Friedman award.

LOL - CONGRATS BFF!!!!

Guys I wouldn't read much into any Summer League outcome. Obviously the team cares more about how the players know the triangle than the actual outcome.

Also, Salt Lake Tribun's Ross Siler has some interesting tweets after talking to Raja Bell about choosing Utah over the Lakers.

---"Talked to Raja Bell today about returning to the Jazz and asked about canceling his dinner with Kobe right before agreeing to deal with Utah"
---Bell: "Kobe was very cool about it. I told him my situation and we talked about it for a minute. He thought it was a no-brainer for me also."
----"“I know Jazz fans might not want to hear it, but Kobe and I are actually on pretty good terms...."
----""Our relationship’s come a long way since whatever year that was in the playoffs.”
----" “Just because we’re on better terms as people doesn’t mean that I’m still not going to go out and try my best to hold him to whatever I can hold him to. I’ll look forward to that, I’m sure he will too. He’s the ultimate competitor, so it’ll all be good here.”
---"That championship doesn’t hold the same kind of weight in your heart if you’re just kind of along for the ride and you didn’t get to compete and put your blood, sweat and tears into it as much as the next guy. “For me, I’m a competitor. I don’t want to just sit there and watch the team I’m with win a championship. I want to play and compete.”

Interesting stuff

MM

Mark Medina,

If you want me to hate Raja Bell less, it's not really working.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

MM - thank you for that but at this point im not sure why his saying that Kobe said Utah was a no brainer?? i mean seriously? KOBE your enemy is nice enough to try to convince you to our CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM and you have the right to cancell on him and say that Utah was a better choice... what i didnt like when he said

" For me, I’m a competitor. I don’t want to just sit there and watch the team I’m with win a championship. I want to play and compete"

so basically his trying to say that we dont need him as player and even if we do get him, were just gonna pay him to sit on the bench??? i mean the guy sounds like a soar looser im sorry for saying that. his basically trying to come up with an excuse not to come to the lakers because he hates KOBE, im sure the media is a little biased and when you read the reports of course they are not gonna say bad things about each other so i think he still is a punk. not needed in LA for sure.

MM - is there any word about TMAC?? are the FO even considering him for the lakers?

I kind of feel like some of these team's signings are setting up trades with the lakers. The Lakers can't outright sign the higher paying contracts at the moment, but the other teams can and are eyeing trade pieces for a Nov/Dec trade. Who it would be I couldn't even speculate but it is just a feeling that I have.

Oh and again, I'm out on the road (driving the herd as it were) and am only able to get an occasional look in here and there. I'm a Lakerholic that is only getting sips these days.

JR

MM- great stuff, I like Bell outstanding competitor my hats off the him and look forward to the WARS.

can anyone elaborate on what kevin durant tweeted

" Tweet of the Day: "Everybody wanna play for the heat and Lakers? Let's go back to being competitive and go at these peoples!"

his saying lets go back to being competitive and go at these people? as in go after the lakers and heat?????

yea good luck with that Mr durant

Raja Bell's comment, “For me, I’m a competitor. I don’t want to just sit there and watch the team I’m with win a championship. I want to play and compete” shows exactly why I wanted him to become a Laker.

There's a championship quality about a guy who loves to play and loves to compete. Exhibiting passion and love for the game is what the Lakers need more of. Lamar, for example, may very well feel the same way, but I never get a sense that he wants to be more than he is as a competitor; he just does what he does.

Bell's statement, if true, suggests he only wants a ring if he really earns it in a big way, and not just in 12 out of 48 minutes. Well, Bell won't get a ring anytime soon, if ever, but when he plays Kobe, Bell will have to earn anything he gets.

If gave me a dollar for the number of times I've read the word "hate" associated with an alleged Christian on this board, it would add up to next year's MLE.

Let's see - Raja Bell, the Celtics, the "Thuggets".................

Dude, if I gave you a dime for every time you'd see "Fakers" and "hate" on any other board in the league then you'd be a millionaire.

MM,

Have you heard anything about when injuries might be addressed, like Drew, Kobe, LO's shoulder?

...and to continue with that thought:

Kobe is a rapist, a ball hog, you have a tainted championship, Derek Fisher is a dirty player, We have 17 championships and you only have 10 because the Minnesota Lakers won the other one's, Gasoft, etc..etc... infinity.

So before you come on this board and criticize, look at everyone else first.

Good Morning, er, Afternoon Blog Crue,

Uh, Lewstrs? Please put me on the Mamba Come Back bus. (did I really have to ask for a seat?)

As for Mamba himself: let's give him time to rejuvinate and find his JOY again. For it's that joy and enthusiasm that are his special gifts to our blog.

And now, back to the Lakers. So, still no news on the Shannon Brown front? It has to take this long? Really? In fact, seems awfully quiet around El Segundo.

Lass

Bell's comments sound mature to me.
He is ok with Kobe, but when they play it will be war, that's as it should be.
His reasons for going to the Jazz make sense, he wants to play, and he gets more money. That is a no brainer.
I don't think it's hard to understand that a lot of players really just want to play.

i just read this on yahoo sprots..

RIVAL COACHES FEEL FOR CLEAVLAND...

and i preticularly love what alvin gentry said... i basically said this before but now im convinced that this is going to be so true ahaha and i qoute.......

"Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry was just happy James, Wade and Bosh remained in the East. He thinks the Heat should be considered favorites to advance to the NBA Finals – with one caveat."

“Chemistry,” Gentry said, “can be a strange thing.”

wow gotta love this guy, good coach even better analyst!

Giant Green Bald-Headed Lunatic,

Listen to your mentor, Bill Simmons. There is no finer hate than good old fashioned competitive sports fan hatred.

Listen, punky brewster, I ain't going to be singing "Kumbaya" and praying for the deliverance of the Celtics the next time we play the Cthem, okay? And I think God is just fine with that.

Anyhow, if Jesus was alive today, I'm sure he'd play linebacker.

By the way, did I mention that we broke the spirit of your Celtics in a seven game series for the Championship? Did I mention that? Because we did. Oh, by the way, you guys were up by 13 points in the third quarter and we won. I just thought I'd bring that up.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

he is alive, look in you heart.

I say touch that TV and heeeeeeeeeeel brother

Father Guido Sarducci

Chicago just picked up Ronnie Brewer. Should we start calling them the Chicago Jazz now?

I'm gonna like watching Chicago next year. I mean, when they don't play us.

Can I just tell you how much I liked that? WHOOHOO!!!!

And while we expected the Heat to accept a bunch of these type of guys, the latest bro to express interest in taking his talents to South Beach is a bit unexpected. However, according to the South Beach Sun Sentinel's Shannon J. Owens, the lure of a championship might bring an old friend back into our lives.

Another puppet show for the Miami Heat? Somebody call Nike.

Penny Hardaway, the man who inspired original Nike puppet "Lil Penny" in the late '90s, announced he is interested in competing for a role with the Miami Heat Thursday on an Internet radio show called "The Bottom Line Sports Show."

"Mentally I was retired and physically I was retired. I was playing recreational ball," Hardaway said. "But when the decision happened with Chris Bosh and LeBron, I felt like I could really be good in that system."

Nope. Big-time nope. I mean, I like Penny Hardaway as much as anyone except one of my high-school friends, but this is a husky pair of Bad Idea Jeans. Even though Penny has one of the best shoe lines ever, that doesn't mean he should join the Superfriends. Sorry, '90s nostalgia fiends, but the guy has played a total of 57 games since 2004 and hasn't played at all since 2008.

ahaha thats from yahoo sports.... looks like miami is turning into a garbage can of "i want a ring campaign" everyone is running to the heat with that attitude... wow this is gonna be a funny season...

LAKERS 2011 chamnps here we come!!!!!!!!!!!

go GET #17 bababyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Re Bynum, I believe he mentioned in his exit interview that he’s planning on having minor right knee surgery around July 18. It's probably arthroscopic surgery and has a shorter recovery time than major knee surgery.

BTW the Lakers no longer own a D-League team but they will be affiliated with the Bakersfield Jam this coming season.

Everyone show support in convincing Mamba24/larrY to come back...Jump on the bus...we can't jinx ourselves and risk the 3Peat...We have to keep doing what made us successful the last 3 years...even MJ was supertitious and always wore his NC shorts for everygame...

Caracter is #3 on the rookie ladder
Ebanks is #7

Wall #2
Cousins #1

Giant Green Game 7 Choke Artist: Nobody on this blog hates Raja or Denver or the LossTown Ceptics. We may have a highly extreme dislike of the 3, but it was never hate...although Boston does come close...

but, then again, I have the 4th Qtr Game 7 replay bookmarked on You Tube. Everytime I play it, my near hate subsides more and more and more.

Looks like Shaq has burned all his bridges...now his agent is practically begging the Hawks to sign him......Perhaps he should call Kobe, Buss, Phil to ask to play for the vet min.....would be a great storyline.

Sup Laker Fam,

Regarding that scout that said the Lakers don't know what to do with Caracter and that he doesn't think that Caracter will make the team, is really hoping that happens so that the team he scouts for can pick up Caracter, LOL. C'mon, does he really think he pull the wool over the eyes of Lakers Managenment after what they've seen Caracter do in summer league? Nice try bub, but the Lakers are keeping both Caracter and Ebanks. On the other hand, if this guy were a talent scout for my team, I'd be really, really worried.

Reader Comment of the Day: "The important thing for me is to see the Lakers actually develop some of these younger players so they can eventually work their way into the rotation. That's not been a strong suit of our team." -- Rick Friedman

Is Rick related to MM?

I mean that is the best you could do? I could see if it was a really great comment then sure, but to give it to the same guy over and over with a mediocre point like that? Must be related!

Guys, I wasn't posting Bell's comments to make you hate him less. I posted it just so you'd see what he to say... I already stated before that I thought Bell's decision was misguided and that he should've joined the Lakers because he has the best chance to win a ring. If he's on the winning end, I would highly doubt that the Lakers would just cut him loose, which is why I don't buy the argument from the people who disagreed with my take on Bell that it's a better financial and secure deal to be with Utah. He's on the tail end of his career regardless. Ending it with the Lakers I think allows him to go out with a bang and helps his exposure.

Anyway, some questions on the injury front. A lot of these haven't been fully answered yet. Bynum said at his exit interview that he planned to get surgery around July 18. That wasn't a definitive date but it should be around this time. Kobe and Lamar said they were going to see the trainers and assess whether they needed surgery, but wasn't sure either way. There's been no reported updates on that and they haven't really been around talking with reporters about that anyway. But as soon as we know, I'll tell you.

Also, there's a new post

MM

Mark Medina,

"I wasn't posting Bell's comments to make you hate him less."

I know. My response was made to be in jest. I both love embracing my inner Lakers fanatic and find that zealous obsessive competitiveness to simultaneously hilarious.

No one else may be laughing, but I am.

GO LAKERS!!!

NBA4ever - Aside from Rick slipping me a G's after every RCOTD, there is no conflict of interest highlighting his comment. And we're not brothers, we're cousins. Just to clarify.

Honestly, I thought his comment was pretty insightful. There was honestly just a bunch of arguing without substance the past few days because of the trolls. I thought Rick made a good point and that's why I made it RCOTD.

MM

>>>wow did we even win 1 summer game?? thats sad...

The Memphis Grizzlies were 3-0 in summer league.

The Sacramento Kings were 3-o in summer league.

The Toronto Raptors were 3-0 in summer league.

The Washington Wizards were 3-0 in summer league.

Now I ask you. Would you prefer to have a team that sucks during the regular season and thus has more higher level draft picks, and thus a better Summer League team?

Or would you prefer a team that's so good that they're always drafting at the end of the 2nd round and trades off their first round picks (and a second rounder as well) for one of the best PFs in the league?

Personally, I say ...

0-5 WOO HOOOOOO. LAKERS ARE SO GOOD, THEY'RE ALWAYS GOING TO SUCK IN THE SUMMER. GO LAST PLACE (in summer) GO LAST PLACE (in summer)! WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO.

"The important thing for me is to see the Lakers actually develop some of these younger players so they can eventually work their way into the rotation. That's not been a strong suit of our team."

Yeah, Lakers never do that.

Like Luke and Farmar and Sasha and Turiaf (before he left). Those guys never get into the rotation.

I think in the last couple of years we did try to develop the young guys we had. It really isn't the time for us to be developing young guys at this point.

Enjoy the game- Shaq burned bridges every place he's stop, the whole city glad to see him go. Next stop Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans and this clown wants more then the ML. He's got some serious stones, roll back the clock to 2001.

mitch surely wont let ebanks and caracter go. with a little fine tuning and continued effort on their part there is no reason why they shouldn't contribute SOME this season. then again....phil is the coach.

Wassup, wassup...Lake Show Back2Back2Back (2back)

The most solemn news of the day. TrueFan1949, Obi Wan and overall great guy went to play on that big basketball court in the sky. His thoughts about the Lakers will be missed. It's nice that he went out with the Lake Show on top.

But, i'm sure he would want us all to keep the spirit high and energy positive as the Purple and Gold take their rightful place in the list entitled "Most League Titles" to the top Baybeee! Go Lakes Show

I've seen various bloggers express concern about the age of this team but, I don't think it's that big a deal since PJ RARELY, if ever, plays rookies or younger players. Of course, it could become a bit of a concern in the coming seasons but, for next season I don't think it much matters. I like the 2 picks that Mitch made this year, both of whom have shown some amount of promise, possibly for the future, and hopefully future picks will be as good, if not better. Only time will tell.

Let's go Ls...all the way to a 3-peat!!!

BTW, nice article form Silver Screen and Roll's, C.A. Clark on 'Congo Cash'. Sure hope he lands somewhere since it doesn't look like he'll be retuning for next season.
