Tweet of the Day: "RIP Lorenzen Wright. I was blessed to know him." -- RealLamarOdom (Lakers forward Lamar Odom)

Reader Comment of the Day:"love our off-season so far. the Steve Blake signing was all i had asked for this season in addition to retaining Brown and Fisher. the Barnes move is ok considering the toughness he brings to the table. Farmar never fit the system anyway and should do pretty well in New Jersey i think. i would've liked to have gotten Bell as another defensive stopper but oh well. also i love the upside of our draft picks after watching summer league. Ebanks is an Ariza clone, which is great and Caracter is the hustler we so desperately need off the bench. i feel the Ratliff deal was fairly irrelevant but he can at least do what Mbenga did for us. i feel like we addressed our most glaring need, bench production and intensity. i mean i cringed every time the second unit went in because they would constantly blow double digit leads and Phil would always leave them in to "let them work it out" as he puts it. then Kobe has to come in and play hero for us to win. i feel like we have to still be the favorites either way you look it regardless of what everyone else is doing. Artest has a full year of the triangle under his belt, Odom has big games when we need them, and hopefully Bynum can stay healthy. the other guys go without saying." -- SoCoolCurt

GOD@@#%$^&*()) I lost again!!!!!!!!!!!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Tom Daniels- you win the funniest comment and the second funniest comment on the epic thread. Justa had the best comment with the list of thoughts from the playoffs.

Mamba had the weirdest comment, not to mention 2-10 on the list as well.

What the heck. Why stop at #607? Here's #608, just because I can.

Eric Dickerson probably never got the attention he deserved because he played on a lousy team, in an era where running backs sort of faded in prominence thanks to a certain team with the west coach offense, or so it always seemed to me. Walton Payton got to be the exception, and Payton stayed healthy and had a long career while Dickerson didn't last.

From this day for the rest of my life I will look back at this day, losing that damn prize that started my slide downard. GOD##%$^&* I need 2 yes 2 Percoset and a Vodka. Wow Congrats Lakerblog Crew for exceeding MM's challenge! Let's try and make it 800? Lol.

So Shannon hasn't decided where he'll play huh? I really like him, he may not be the most skilled player but the guy listens to his coaches and teammates. Takes criticisms in a positive way and works hard eventhough sometimes he feels like he's Kobe, lol! But with Farmar gone, I think Shannon will blossom especially that he's surrounded by Vets and good defensive players.

=======================

The good ole days, when there were only 3 channels available and kept having to adjust the rabbit ears, and it was all black and white, all the time.

Favorite old TV show,

Sky King...

... and Penny

Some odd movies which I like:

"Intersection" with Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, Lolita Davidovich
"Pushing Tin" and all othe Cusack movies (except "2012", what a dud!"
"Adaptation" Nicholas Cage and many others
"American Psycho" (Christian Bale, it mocks the 80's so well...and has that "Fight Club" twist to it....
and of course "Blade Runner" the blu-ray box set/final version, I hope.....

That movie "Blade Runner" was so ahead of its time. Ridley Scott is my favorite director, I don't think he's done a movie I havn't enjoyed. I took alot of heat for recommending "BR" to people, but they just didn't get the point....yes the original release with Ford's voiceover made it seem a tad corny, but the visual effects, the strength of the cast, that final line by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) "...and now it is time to die", and he did. Scott did such a great job on that movie that he even made that psycho chick, Sean Young, appear to be hot!!!!

Speaking of Harrison Ford, I laugh when I think that Lucas' first choice for Han Solo in "Star Wars" was Christopher Walken.....now could you imagine that stiff but great actor in an action, sci-fi, repeatedly saying "It's not my fault!".......by the way, Han Solo did shoot Greedo under the table first, that was a controversy, but he was supposed to be a guy with a reputation himself. That's why I love the new Daniel Craig Bond movies (actually, could be 1 movie), because he is ruthless as Ian Fleming had written him to be. I read those James Bond novels while I was in elementary school, my dad used to drive me to the library and make me check out 10 books every 2 weeks. I think I'll get the Lazenby Bond movie on Netflix, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"

My top Bonds:

1-Sean Connery
2-Daniel Craig
3-Pierce Brosnan
4-Timothy Dalton
5-Roger Lazenby
6-Sean Connery (the comeback)
7-Roger Moore

I know alot of people will disagree about Moore, because they grew up watching his series of portrayals, but he just wasn't tough enough.
Piece of trivia, when Sean Connery resigned from playing Bond after 5 films, their first choice was Timothy Dalton, but he turned it down as he was only 21 years old at the time. I guess James Bond is like a fine wine, it takes time to season and age and acquire its quality. Pierce Brosnan was an early thought, during his Remington Steele days, but back then he was scrawnier and his voice was irritatingly higher pitched. He played it at the the right time in his career. He could have done one or two more, however like with the Batman movies, I believe they wanted to attract the younger audience, so they went with a younger actor.

Mamba had the weirdest comment, not to mention 2-10 on the list as well. Posted by: phred | August 01, 2010 at 10:39 AM

And just what do you mean by "Weird" phred my friend since all the posts supposedly were in a fun spirt? Tell me dear phred since I don't think your particular name appeared in any of my posts except to congratulate you on a good blogging effort. So tell me Phred what do you mean. Are you taking exception about what I said about some other Blogger? I don't think I demeaned anybody in any of my posts so tell me dear phred what is this "weird" crap on post 2 - 10. Is there perhaps something you don't like about me so you slip some silly ISH like this under the radar. WEIRD? Phred I suggest you check yourself my friend. Carry ON!

I grew up in Echo Park/Silvelake area....in the middle of those two areas, near Sunset and Alvarado....but I live in Diamond Bar, I'm thinking of moving out of my house and into a downtown loft, or a Westside loft, like in the Marina or Playa Del areas, (less maintenance, believe me), and I would be closer to my parents and to West LA and the real world, I'm not into "Suburbia" (The Pet Shop Boys).....

I never saw "Forrest Gump", Tom Hanks is not in my top 100 favorite actors list...I make it a point to avoid his movies, but I did see "Saving Private Ryan".

Did Mel Gibson Starr in Psycho? Love him as an actor but has gone whacko lately!

I have a hard time even coming up with a top 25 movies list. But one of my great favorites that won't get mentioned on too many lists is Matchstick Men with Nicolas Cage.

Just found out that the girl that played Cage's daughter in that movie was actually (IRL) dating the co-star and Cage's partner in the movie. Weird moment when I found that out.

mamba24- no, sorry, this is phred. I mean 'weird' as a highest compliment. Sorry if there was some misunderstanding there.

I LOVE MAMBA24! In case there was some confusion there!

my favorite after school television watching. (I didn't actually own a tv. I used to walk the dog of a lady who lived by me, and she would let me come by and watch tv. It was cheap babysitting, i suppose.

1)Duck Tales
2)Duck Tales (hey, Duck Tales was awesome
3)Night Court.
4)The Golden Girls
5)The Dukes of Hazzard
6)Mama's Family

It's all about the syndicated reruns.

LEW- re Mel Gibson movies- If you haven't seen it, I recommend Peter Weir's 'Galipoli.' One of his first movies, it was really charming.

Magandang umaga rin pareng Lew.why you know filipino language?

Echo Park...

Brings back memories...

When my mom left my dad with 7 kids and $300, we ended up near Eagle Rock...Verdugo and York...

I went to St. Bernards till eight grade...took the entrance exam at Pater Noster High School, and got the 3rd highest score ever...even with an offered scholarship, but I begged my mother to go to Eagle Rock High cuz they had girls...lol

Then we moved to Highland Park...and later to Van Nuys, where I ended up graduation at Grant HS...

Growing up in that area before moving to the"suburbs" in the Valley, was good training...

If you can live through the "Avenues", a predominant gang at that time...I got hit up everyday for money, and I realized that if you don't get intimidated, that they respected you more...you show any sign of weakness...and you're their personal bitch forever...

How long ago those days in the hood seem now...

Which reminds me...anyone remember the platforms and bell bottom days...

How about the corduroys and wallabees...

How about Jordace, Sassoons, and Members Only...

And of course Guess and Topsiders...

Im watching again year 2000 western conference final between lakers and blazers and i come to think that the jailblazer line-up was really good and scary but the lakers dismantle them in the fourth quarter and brian shaw plays well,kobe lakers leading scorer while shaq not playing well match with sabonis.....

LEW,

You still see guys with Members Only.
That's too funny. What ever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Growing up in the streets certainly does.

phred - Galipoli is a classic, and a very young Mel had a great performance...

Adrian - pinoy ako...anong say mo...lol (my tagalog spelling is bad)

LakerJ - yeah the media is all over Mel and his taped convos on the ugly divorce he is going through...I think Mel is OK till he starts drinking..hehe

Adrian, if you think our blog had it bad the last couple of years with the Celts Trolls, you should have seen the blogging in the Lakers Blogs from the Trailblazer bloggers that year and the summer prior to that season. DANG, that Portland team was deep and GOOD. We were all confident but deep down we didn't really know if we could beat them.

My most painful Sports moment:
Had to attend a meeting on a Sunday night with some buddies of mine (not Laker Fans) and I missed the second half of the Lakers big comeback to Beat Portland in game 7!!!

Painful for me to miss the game and PAINFUL that I missed an incredible incredible Lakers moment! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

What did you win? WHAT DID YOU WIN? You won the greatest Prize in all Creation Adrian you lil devil you. You won...A kiss from Justa! GOD@@#%^&&* I WANTED THAT PRIZE. But congrats Adrian you won fair and square! I salute you sir. *sniff* *sniff* After this everything in my life is downhill for me. I had the prize of a lifetime right there, right there in my grasp and lost it. OH SWEET JESUS!!!!

My favorite boxers of all time is mike tyson and of course my compatriot manny pacman best pound for pound pacquiao...

phred,

Dickerson played in a different era, more astro-turf, more players on "roids"...He had success, hey, they almost won that 1979-80 Super Bowl against the Steelers (does anyone else but me find it weird that in the movie "Heaven Can Wait", another favorite of mine with Warren Beattty.....it was at that same time, and the teams in the movie super bowl were the Rams and the Steelers)...Payton was one tough little back, but remember, he played in Chicago, and playing in Chicago is different than what Dickerson did. I think playing in those horrid conditions give Payton even more greatness because of having to run on ice versus a-turf, probably saved him from injuries as you can not plant your foot as firmly in wet/icy grass as you can on astroturf....I played on astroturf, It's so damn sticky, I used to say if you put it on the wall, one could run on it.....Dickerson was in the perfect system for his skills, Robinson's USC system......

LEWSTER....as to why Dickerson does not go down in history as one of the greatest ever is because of his off field actions. While under contract, he wanted a new contract. As a rookie, he ran for over 1800 yards, then eventually broke OJ's record (although he had 2 extra games to do it as seasons were longer) and that record of 2105 still stands, think about it, almost 30 years and still stands.
The biggest blowup came in a Kobe-like outburst (that summer), when Dickerson was being interviewed and said about Robinson "Well, tell him to go run 47-Trap" (Their pet play that racked him up massive yardage)....so they traded him. But note, phred, you there? Dickerson was the runner who got to 10,000 yards faster than any other running back. There may have been more complete backs such as Marcus Allen, but Dickerson was in the right place at the right time, until the $$$ issues.

Another running back who I thought was really impressive was Earl Campbell, it would take 2-3 guys to bring him down, and he would run defenders over instead of avoiding them, Even Dickerson avoided contact, he often would run it out of bounds rather than take a big hit. But Dickerson's running style and speed and acceleration was just so impressive, the confidence was awesome.

About baseball pitchers, remember J.R. Richards??? He was pretty good, but wasn't he associated with "roids"....I'll check before later cuz this will timeout soon.

What!!!...A kiss from justa...

Man, I didn't know there was a prize like that...I would have never gone to bed and kept posting...

Yap johnnyv i dont have internet access in the philippines that year 2000.but im watching that game on ESPN...

Eagle Rock, Oh yeah!

Weird story, I actually spent half my childhood in Lake Elsinore and half in Downey. Played baseball all through my early years and loved it! When we left what was at that time a small Town with no stop lights Elsinore for the big city Downey, it was a huge culture shock.

My first day on the baseball field for practice (10th grade), I showed up in my usual garb. My long hair, Cloth headband, cut off jean shorts split up the sides (boxers showing of course), and cut off T-Shirt.

My new coach (typical clean cut red neck jock) took one look at me and told me (in front of the whole team) to get the hell off the field and to come back when I looked like a ball player! Holy Geezus, that was a painful moment.

That my friends was a capsule of the 70's! LOL.

What!!!...A kiss from justa...Man, I didn't know there was a prize like that...I would have never gone to bed and kept posting...Posted by: LEWSTRS | August 01, 2010 at 12:08 PM
*ROTFLMAO!!! But don't you see, if you had kept posting you probably would not have won! While all of us slaved you cooly took a nap woke up and won! Damn you need to buy some lottery tickets now or go to Vegas. You got the touch Adrian! Congrats again!

I LOVED Earl Campbell and all those baby blue pom poms...

Earl was an overpowering runner, with the attitude that he will just run over you...try and stop me if you can...

Remember the play against the Rams, where he knocked Isaiah Robertson flat on his back...

But I knew his style would take a toll on him...I remember on some plays...he would be hit by 3-5 players, before he finally was ganged tackled...

Such awesome power...

Really mamba i won a kiss from pretty justa wow can't wait for that.hehehe

So when can i have that kiss from pretty justa then???im excited for that.yeaaaboiii...

Mamba24...you don't need a kiss from justa...you have gone all the way to home base apparently...if you guys produced me...lol

Rumor has it I was conceived in a Blackberry...Is that true...lol

Laker J,

Worthy was the small forward, and AC was the pf, even though Worthy weighed more, I went over this last year, I think the weight was in his legs....

....and you listed Goodrich as point guard, but I thought he was more of a shooting guard, I think that he and West played both.....

I would put Kareem over Wilt, just for accomplishments (titles), in terms of mano et mano, I don't know, If I were building a team and it was going to be star-filled, I would choose Kareem, If I were building a team around one man, it would be Wilt, and that would be over all the other positions, like over MJ, and Magic, and Bird........

phred....Mel Gibson in "The Year of Living Dangerously" was pretty good. I thought at that point Gibson could have played James Bond.....looked good in a Tux.

What is the best Laker guard tandem ever...

West/Goodrich
Magic/Nixon
Magic/Scott
Kobe/Fish

Hard to argue with Kobe/Fish since it has produced 5 rings...

I don't know, I guess because he played in Bosum Buddies and I didn't find it funny..... OK, I did see that one movie he was stuck in the Airport, and I will acknowledge that he is a good, but not great actor.

BTW, I went to John Marshall High, if I would have went to Belmont I'd be working at Burger King.....(IMHO).....actually my cousins went to Belmont and one turned out fine.....

Favorite subject during my school days was mathematics...

Agree with you there. But the wrinkle there is Fish wasn't a starter for most of the first 3.

Throw a thought out there:
What kind of career would Michael Cooper have had if he wasn't backing up Magic during his prime? Hmmmmm

Welllllllllll...There's one small caveat...Although it was decided upon by the blogging night crew who were under extreme stress and strain to meet that 500 and then 600 posts total...Well..we never actually conveyed the message to Justa. Lol! So you see Adrian you may well get a Kiss when Justa finds out, but it's just as likely I'll get a kick in the behind for proposing such an outlandsih, sexist, idea to the Blog. but my idea inspired an effort that was truly herculean. Adrian...Maybe...she'll give you a Virtual Kiss...Now, now Adrian, I know it's not like the real thing but I think that may the only option. As for me , my @zz is laying real low for the next week or so. Sorry my brother i didn't mean to get you so excited. But think how excited I was and I knew damn well even if I won i wouldn't in a million, zillion years get a Kiss from Justa. But that one in a zillion chance was enough for me to post are you ready for this (125) Posts. yes that's right 1/5 of all those posts were mine. And yet, and yet....*sniff* *sniff* Still you won and I lost. So that's the long sad sordid story Adrian. I'm sorry and apologize my brother. but am I sad HELL NO! Why, because even though I didn't win...Nobody else is going to get that Kiss either. OH SWEET JESUS!!! this Thread contains some of the craziest ISH that I have ever posted in my life. I got to copy it now before I forget!
*
Now let me say this final thing. JustAnotherMambaFan while the so called prize of a Kiss from Justa was done in fun...I know it was a sexist despicable thing to do and I really trully, really trully applogize. OK hold on Justa I feel a Drama Punk moment coming...OK it passed. Justa really, I know it was stupid and I ask for your forgiveness which I probably won't get. Oh ISH here comes the Drama Punk moment. Justa I really can't do this ISH any more. Thanks, take care and be responsible with those powers. To me you really are the most Beautiful Being in Creation. Once again I'm sorry. And so this saga finally comes to it's long awaited end. God Justa, I love the hell out of you!!!

Has a similar quality like chemistry.....there are different types of mathematics and one needs to recognize it's not a steady progression as you proceed....Algebra, Geometry, Calculus are somewhat different from each other, just as Chemistry, Orgainic Chemisty, Quantitative Chemistry, Pharmalogical Chemistry, etc. are different from each other. I almost flunked Geometry in high school until my girlfriend back then explained to me that it was just a bunch of rules (theorems) and you had to apply them. It wasn't 1+1=2. Luckily, I got an A on the final and passed the class, I even beat her score and she ended up 4.0 @ U.S.C. double major.

Remember, they basically started at the same time, Coop, I believe was the year before, but broke his leg or something, and we all know how hard Magic pushed his teammates, like Kobe, but probably more vocal (Kobe uses Fish to deliver the messages alot, I believe), Coop was not relied upon in his first few years, somewhat like Shannon Brown. If the time came where Cooper had to be the "man" on his own team, I don't think he could have cut it, his ball handling skills were ok, not great, his shooting ok, not great,.....geez, this is the Shannon Brown story........Shannnon, TAKE NOTE!!!!

Jersey's on the wall, players who deserve to be up there,
Cooper, almost, but if you do Cooper you have to do Scott, if you do Scott, you almost have to do Rambis and AC, and before you know it, we'd be like the Celtics. Should Shaq make the wall.....IMHO, I don't know...50/50........it's a tough call.......any opinions????? on Shaq???? (Robert Horry???,JK, hey the Celtics would have hung his jersey)....

Lets go Lakers...

Yap mamba24 i know its only a joke about that kiss from justa.sorry pretty justa we make fun about you while your not around...Posted by: Adrian Palomar | August 01, 2010 at 12:59 PM

Geez Adrian don't you think i feel bad enough already, I'm a no good, good for nothing piece of crap. OK ! But you right my brother, shouldn't make fun of people when they not around. Even if technically, in a very warped type of way it was somewhat of compliment. Well I that's that. I apologized to you, Apologized to Justa. I shall go have me a Supernatural season 5 video marathon. Ths is rapidly becomig my favorite series of all time science fiction or regular. Actually now that I think about it It is my favorite series together with Dark Angel and not because Jessica Alba stars in it since Justa is much finer! OK Sorry Justa, Sorry Adrian! I'm Out!

Miami heat is the most ugliest team in the NBA right now except for Eric Spoelstra he's a filipino...hehehe.lol

Good afternoon Laker blogsters...

Oh well im playing Modern Warfare 2 in my PS3...Its gonna be fun killing a lot of them...

THE EPIC THREAD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
668 posts and still counting. Freaking amazing. What a great Sunday morning surprise. Of course, it DID take all Sunday morning to read. What was exhilarating is that the Epic Thread is overall a terrific read. The problem is what do you do for an encore. That kind of stuff is what ends up making people eat 50 hot dogs.
JOHNNYV... “M second fav is Stranger in a strange land. I liken the "Grok" (is that how he spelled it?) to Laker Toms Blog synch think. LOL.” Damn straight, Johnny. I grew up on Heinlein’s novels. True 60’s Sci-Fi. Heinlein’s
~~~~~~~~~~~
@JOHNNYV... “Shogun, Greatest book I ever read. Loved Tai Pan and Noble House as well.” One of the greatest reading pleasures is to read a book like Noble House when you are visiting Hong Kong or one of Charles McCarry’s great espionage novels set in Italy when you’re riding the train between Rome and Milan.
~~~~~~~~~~~
@PHRED... Speaking of westerns, my favorites are Silverado, The Quick and the Dead, Quigley Down Under, Tombstone, and the Magnificent Seven. There’s a little cowboy in every man, whether they’ll admit it or not.
~~~~~~~~~~~
@ART... “Favorite months of the year?” That was my favorite reach of the night. The obvious answers are October through June. When I went to bed, I thought we were dead in the water. Shows what I know. Who would have thought. Great job. How much did MM pay you? LOL. JK.

TOM

I like playing search and destroy in modern warfare 2...

I used to ditch high school alot, and go home and drink hard liquor and smoke weed....with a girlfriend, and etc.
Or we'd go to a friend's house in Los Feliz and smoke even better weed. It was the 70's. I barely graduated from high school, but got 2 college degrees and make a decent living (over 150) so it goes to show that if you apply yourself, high school does not determine your life. I only had a 2.76 GPA (high SAT scores though) in HS, but a 3.56 in one Degree, and a 3.8 in my 2nd degree (the one that pays my bills)......

Anyone want to talk cars????

Adrian, are you playing video games in the closet??? Or did you come out to play???

Speaking of westerns, my favorites are Silverado, The Quick and the Dead, Quigley Down Under, Tombstone, and the Magnificent Seven. There’s a little cowboy in every man, whether they’ll admit it or not.

I'm with you on Silverado. Kevin Kline and his d@mn dog (went to jail because he couldn't leave him behind) and the relationship/friendship with the small bartender. He and she were always referring to "The Good Stuff" down under the bar.

Great GREAT performances and characters in that movie but Kevin Kline stole the show for me.

Tombstone and Val Kilmer. D@mn what a great job he did on his Doc Holiday character. "I'm your Huckleberry"

Honorable mention: Blazing Saddles. How can you even mention that movie without cracking up? LOL

Humanomoly, you ever see any of that series "Breaking Bad?" I really like that show. Weird that I have a fascination with a criminal and an illegal drug manufacturer. Kind of reminds me of the fascination many of us have with Mafia movies. Makes no sense, but I like em.

Best thing about the 70's - long hair, surfing, experimenting with drugs, concerts, skiing...
Worst thing - My parents 'square' generation, gas rationing, ...

Best thing about the 80's - Perrier with a twist of lime and a Qualude, Showtime Lakers, LA Olympics, 80's Music Wave, my kids were born...
Worst thing - AIDS, Bird's Celtics, Lenin shot...

Best thing about the 90's - Bought first house, started first company, Moved to Vegas, started career in Real Estate,
Worst thing - Gulf War, Rodney King riots, OJ trial, Somalia 'Black Hawk' Down' Incident.

Best thing about the 2000's - Shaq/Kobe 3 peat, current Laker Dynasty, Redeem Team, started Lew's Allstars Inc., daughter graduates UC Irvine a semester early, she starts Law School...
Worst thing - War drags out in Iraq and Afghanistan, Federal Big Business and Bank bailout, Stern's hollow King and the Cavs...

Best thing about 2010's - Lakers Back2Back Championships, World Cup Soccer is over, son attending CSUN, father's 80th Birthday Family Reunion...
Worst thing in 2010's - Economy, Housing Crisis, Reality Shows, 3 Mojitos in Miami...

Thanks Mamba24. I'm doing well. It's just so freakin' hot and humid here in Tallahassee, Florida. Sheesh! I really miss LA's weather, the best weather system in the whole world! On the other hand, I could be worse off. I could be living in Miami, where I'd have to deal with the Miami madness over the 3 stooges.

MAN! I like that Sasha V blogger. MORE MORE MORE! LOL. And who is it? I wonder if it's Corner J or Puddle. Whoever it is, you have nailed the spirit of Sasha.

Weird thought, I wonder if it really is Sasha! LMAO!
